Finally, the bubbles decided to get with the program and work for us the way I dreamed!

I love how it looks like Mr. Knight is teaching me how to blow bubbles. What a cutie.

This little beauty is Mr. Knight and I’s favorite picture… EVER. You might even see it again soon in a little project I’ve been working on that has been taking me WEEEEEKS, cause I’m crazy OCD like that.

Overall, very pleased with my little bubble prop. The only props I really brought with us was the bubbles and our iPhones, and I think they were enough for us (although I wish I had packed some sweet heart shaped sunglasses… bummers).

Our favorite part of our ‘couples picture time’ was sitting in the grass blowing bubbles at each other. So relaxing! It was especially funny to see some of our guests drive by us on the road behind us (see – road approx. 12′ behind us… didn’t notice it? yeah, our photographers are amazing). They looked slightly confused! A few honked, which got us super excited.

I can’t say it enough how amazing it was to see Mr. Knight before our ceremony. It was the best part of my day (besides pulling away from our reception… more on that later). These moments with him are some I will always cherish. :-)

This week we bid farewell to Sunny MOH and her husband, Groomsman S, as they embarked on their journey to Thailand. For the past few years, Sunny MOH and her hubby have been working with organizations in Jacksonville helping refugees from Burma (and many other countries) become acclimated to a life in America. Before coming to the States, many of the refugees had never rode in cars before, worked jobs, let alone had a place to call their ‘own.’ Our friends were deeply impacted by these refugees and wanted to help those still suffering in Southeast Asia. Thus began their long (and arduous) preparations for their move to Thailand. They spent many months saving $$$, selling all their belongings, receiving tons of vaccinations, till finally, they were off the ‘grid’ completely (no car, apartment, job, etc).

As of now, their plans are to live in Thailand for about 2 or so years, teaching English, learning about the culture, and helping others (among many, many other things, which you can catch on their blog). They are both amazing individuals – so giving and selfless. They are a true inspiration to Mr. Knight and I.

Since our Expat friends will be spending so long abroad, Mr. Knight and I (okay… well mostly I) put together a blog for Sunny MOH and Groomsman S so they would have a place to talk about their journey, their experiences, and their work. Also, having a blog makes it easy for them to keep all their family and friends up-to-date on what they are doing and expose their loved ones to the beautiful culture of Southeast Asia.

I believe the ‘first look’ is such an important moment on your wedding day. Many brides and grooms are hell-bent on not seeing each other till the ceremony (which is tradition) but, having a ‘first look’ and seeing each other, just the two of you, is so much more intimate (in our eyes). We both were so excited to see each other and get a moment to take in everything that was happening that day… we were getting married! Enough of my jibber-jabbering, the pictures truly say it all.

I’m trying to contain my excitement, but failing at it. I had never been so excited to see him in my life!

At this moment I’m so excited that I’m stomping my feet up and down on the bridge super fast so that he can hear me coming.

This is right after Mr. Knight kissed me and got my lipstick all over his lips. He was smacking his lips together all funny. It was perfect. He made me laugh and I certainly needed a good laugh on our wedding day. Nerves anyone?

Truth be told, I don’t think our family was completely on board with our ‘first look’ idea till after they saw our ‘first look’ pictures. I remember telling my parents we were going to see each other before the ceremony and I will never forget the shocked look on their faces (they are very traditional). They also had this same shocked look when I told them the dress I wanted wasn’t white (it was champagne). They eventually came around when they heard all the positives: more time for pictures, less time between the ceremony and reception taking photos, giving us more time with our guests. My parents were really good sports with all my slightly untraditional ideas for Mr. Knight and I’s wedding.

Having a ‘first look’ gave us time so that we could get all the fun pictures we wanted (which is coming up next!) and allowed us to just hang out and chill. We weren’t rushed, we had nowhere to be for an hour and a half. It was perfection. Just Mr. Knight, Me and our 2 photographers and 2 videographers (okay, we were quite a crew). We frolicked all over the Plantation Bay Country Club property. I had time to really think about which pictures I wanted, what would be a good background, etc. I was one of THOSE brides who directed our photographers some. I was out of control. I could have taken pictures with Mr. Knight for hours if I hadn’t gotten so hungry/sweaty/thirsty/tired. I remember wanting to take a nap right before our ceremony. Staying up all night before your wedding is never a good idea. Bad gator bride.

I don’t want to bore you with a bazillion pictures of us in romantic locations, so I’m going to try and condense our honeymoon recap (and give you a fabulous view of Maui) in as little pictures as possible. :-) If you haven’t seen our honeymoon video, then you better get your butt on over there and view it. It truly captured the feeling of Maui and our honeymoon perfectly.

In Maui there were lots of Mai Tai’s to be consumed:

28 mile bike ride down a volcano is not everyone’s idea of ‘romantic’ but Mr. Knight and I loved it. One of the top 5 experiences of our life (so far). Biking through 10 different climate zones (starting in freezing 26 degrees at the top and ending at the ocean) was unbelievable.

Lots of yummy food to chow down on:

Enjoying some calamari, sushi and shrimp at the Five Palms. Yes that is two raspberry mojitos you see in front of me. I was out of control that night, but hey, you have to get a little out of control on your honeymoon, right?

Lots of champagne to be devoured:

Not only did the owners of our condo leave us champagne, but Mr. Knight’s Mom also sent us champagne. So we celebrated watching the finale of “Lost” (in HAWAII, where it was filmed) by toasting to them with lots and lots of champagne. By the end of the night, I was whining on the floor of our bathroom (after I had slipped on… champagne). No more champagne for me. Bad little gator.

Lots of guard rails to pose for pictures on:

Mr. Knight and I on the Road to Hana (one of the most treacherous roads to drive).

Mr. Knight and I in the ‘desert’ portion of the Hana Highway (this is way past the point where rental vehicles are prohibited from driving). Did you know there was a desert in Maui? Now you know. I told you Maui had some ridiculous climates.

Lots of shopping while eating:

Planning out our shopping attack while catching a bite to eat at the crazy-delicious Longhi’s.

Lots of water sports to partake in:

Mr. Knight tearin’ it up on a jet ski. He had sooo much fun. I, on the other hand, was terrified. I decided that being his personal photographer/videographer while he played in the water, was more fun. :-) I’m not even going to tell you how much jet ski rentals are in Maui, you might throw up on yourself.

Lots of silly-ness:

Mr. Knight getting a massage at our condo before his tattoo appointment. Later, we decided this was a bad idea, he should have had the massage AFTER the tattoo appointment. Oh wells, I still felt like I was on cloud 9 after his tattoo appointment. :-)

Mr. Knight getting his honeymoon/wedding/we-love-each-other-so-dang-much tattoo at the Maui Tattoo Company. Every time I see it, my heart just goes a flutter. I love this man sooo much. :-)

Mr. Knight’s tattoo. A little math equation I came up with; our intials^squared = LOVE and our wedding date. I love it and so does Mr. Knight. It is soo US. Guess what makes it extra special? He got it in Maui, so it is a little reminder of the fabulous trip we had to that incredibly beautiful island.

Where are you going on your honeymoon? If you already went, where did you go? Was it everything you dreamed of? If your still on the search, I highly (HIGHLY) suggest Maui. :-)

I’ve been told many times, little girls grow up and find someone like their Dad and marry them. Which probably explains why Mr. Knight and Gator Dad get along so well, they are so much alike. They both hatch up crazy ideas (that often are really incredible), can fix any electronic/mechanical device, can whip up yummy food in the kitchen, are super smart and have an entrepreneurial spirit, can strike up a conversation with ANYONE about ANYTHING, both are excellent at public speaking, both are the first ones to purchase that hot new gadget on the market, and both can talk websites/media devices/gators/inventions for hours, and I love them both with all my heart.

Which makes these next two pictures extra special for me. My two most anticipated moments on our wedding day was Mr. Knight seeing me for the first time (see: our first look coming up in an entry soon!) and my Dad seeing me in all my Bride-ness.

I think I must of asked our photographers a million times on our Wedding day – “When do we get to do our iPhone picture?” Can you tell I was excited? I think they finally just gave in and was like “Let’s do it now,” after I had asked them for the 1 bazillionth time. :-)

Poor Happy Bridesmaid had to carry such an offending bouquet. I don’t understand how a florist can get MY bouquet mostly right but completely mess up the bridesmaid bouquets. Yes, those are rogue daisy leaves left by our florist. You can see more pictures of these bouquets in my beautiful bridesmaids post.

Every time I think back to our wedding, I think about all the beautiful people and details… then I get to those dang bridesmaid bouquets and I just about want to cry.  Here was our plan: Mr. Knight and I would order/put together all the flowers for the reception (with the help from my AMAZING bridesmaids and day-of-coordinator) and the only thing we were going to order was the bouquets, bouts and corsages from a florist. Saving us some much needed $$$ since Mr. Knight and I were footing the bill for many of these wedding ‘accessory’ items.

A few months before the wedding we dropped by a florist in Ormond Beach near our wedding location. We only had time to visit one location since we lived out of town (2 hours away from our wedding location). We met with the owner, checked out all the beautiful pictures of flowers he had done and then showed him our inspiration (below).

Sweet, romantic and whimsical. Those were our 3 words. What did we get? I cringe every time I think about our bouquets. Cringe with embarrassment and cringe at their heinous weed/store bought/5-year-old craft/ugly-ness.

He said that he loved my daisy look and thought I should make a big statement by having just daisies. I agreed with him and then we moved forward to bridesmaid bouquets and my bouquet. I was overall happy with our consultation and couldn’t wait to see how all the bouquets looked the night before the wedding.

Fast forward to May 14, the Friday before our wedding. I showed up at our Florist, with my bridesmaids in tow, to check out our bouquets.What did I see? Utter heinousness. From the GOLD ribbon he wrapped MY bouquet with, to the lack-luster bridesmaid bouquets that looked like a package of Winn-Dixie $3 daises were just wrapped in ribbon. Just awful. I was immediately let down. I didn’t really know what to do. I critiqued him, told him what to fix and to add tons more white daisies to my bouquet and my bridesmaid’s bouquets. But those bridesmaid bouquets were just awful and I didn’t know what to do.. and what is even worse is that the florist didn’t even recognize how bad they looked. I mean.. I was basically paying $45 a bouquet for him to drive to Winn-Dixie, purchase a $3 bunch of white daisies and wrap a ribbon around them.

Don’t they look like they just picked those daisies out of a random pasture, or rather WEEDS and bunched them up to make a bouquet? Ahh.. this is such a sore point for me.

I was so busy the day before the wedding, so frazzled, so OVER IT, that I just let the bouquets go. I was just like ‘whatever I can’t handle this right now’ and we left the florist. I’m NEVER like this. I’m that person that has to critique something to the Nth degree. I believe I had just reached a breaking point and I decided… F it… I don’t care (please excuse my profanity!). My bridesmaid’s were pretty silent as they looked at the bouquets in horror. Looking back, I wish they had spoken up to help me (sometimes I try to be ‘nice’ and not tell vendors how I REALLY feel). But if I were my bridesmaid’s I probably wouldn’t have said anything either.

Did I mention the florist forgot to leave me a ‘toss’ bouquet, as outlined in our contract? Details. Details. I ended up throwing my ACTUAL bouquet for the toss. One of my bridesmaid’s offered to give me her bouquet to toss, but I felt bad tossing a bouquet of weeds to our wedding guests.

On a happier note, the reception flowers were AMAZING. I couldn’t have asked for them to be any better! I remember walking into the reception, right before our ceremony, and seeing all the flowers, I just wanted to cry they were so beautiful. Exactly what I wanted in EVERY WAY.

Hello GORGEOUS, cheerful, bright and happy. I loved these arrangements our day-of coordinator put together with the flowers we bought. I nearly cried at how perfect they were.

We ordered white daisies from Fifty Flowers ,fuchsia gerbera daisies from Sam’s Club, and placed cut up lemons in all the vases. They showed up the Thursday before the wedding, and two of my amazing bridesmaids, Sunny MOH and Seminole Bridesmaid, helped me to cut/hydrate and transport them to our reception site.

3 of the 5 buckets of flowers we had. Sooo gorgeous. And those fuchsia gerbera daisies were beautiful!

Loading the flowers into Mr. Knight’s truck. The truck was a recent purchase on our part and we are so thankful that we took the plunge and got a new vehicle a few weeks before the wedding. We wouldn’t have been able to transport all our wedding goodies/our honeymoon goodies/gifts/and Gator Kitty without this truck (and my little car).

Looking back on our wedding I know, without a doubt, that I could have made our bouquets everything I ever wanted, if I had done them myself. My stomach churns just thinking about how much we paid for those terribly sad looking bouquets. I look back at all my friend’s weddings that I was a bridesmaid in and remember how beautiful my bridesmaid bouquet was. I expected something amazing and I was let down by our florist. If you are looking for a florist in the Ormond Beach, FL/Daytona Beach area, contact me first so I can tell you who NOT to go to. Let me save you the embarrassment!

Our total on reception flowers (not even going to talk about wedding flowers because I despise our florist):

• 23 bunches of Vero White Daisies; Fifty Flowers; $171.19
• 100 Stems of Fuchsia Gerber Daisies, Sam’s Club; $136.58
• Lemons from Publix; $25
• Rectangular Vases from Michael’s $45 (40% coupon)
• Misc blue vases from Target and white IKEA vases; $10

Total for Reception Flowers: $387.77
16 centerpieces and 2 large arrangements; $21.54/per arrangement
Amazingly the price per arrangement above doesn’t even include the many bud vases all over our reception. So ‘technically’ the per arrangement cost is even lower then I calculated! It certainly pays to do your own flowers!

Which I believe to be pretty darn amazing! We paid more on our ceremony flowers from the florist ‘who should not be named’ then for our BEAUTIFUL reception flowers. :-)

Phew… feels so good to get this all out. I’ve had all this pint up anger towards our florist, but I feel soooo much better now! But still… $45/per bouquet for what he showed up with was a little ridic.

Hello hardest picture to pose for EVER. You wouldn’t think so. I was seriously cranking my neck around as hard as I could so I could see the camera, but sooo worth it. I needed at least ONE picture with my little Bride hoodie. :-) BTW, totally rockin’ the southern bump. You know you love it.

Hi Bridal jacket that costs mucho $$ and can only be worn 1 day. I wore the jacket on the plane to Maui hoping they would see we were newlyweds and bump us to 1st class. My plan didn’t work. I understand though. We were competing with the girl CARRYING her wedding dress on the plane, and a couple wearing bride and groom hats (complete with detachable veil). Next time we will be more prepared.

Everyone wearing different silver shoes? Love. Red color of the boards of the little white bridge we were on, in contrast with the girl’s dresses. Also love. This is one of those pictures that older folks look at and ask “Why did the photographers cut all y’all’s heads off? They must not be very good.” Oh quite the contrary, they are soooo good.

Aren’t we a little more creative in our pictures then the boys were? I always joke to Mr. Knight that his pictures with the boys were sooo creative {sarcasm}. Being the funny guys they are, I figured there would be some goofy ones in there somewhere, but they really ‘held it together’ during their picture session. Us gals, I can’t say we held it together. :-)

This post wouldn’t be complete without a picture of me and the cutest little flower girl ever, my god-daughter KK. Fun (and random) Fact: Little KK and I were born exactly 20 years apart and both our names start with a “K.”

That is the only word I have to describe the amazingness of our wedding video. I love every second of it, every frame, every moment… everything. Watching it takes me right back to our Wedding Day. Since y’all weren’t invited to the wedding (I’m sorry but it just wasn’t in the budget), here’s a taste of what you missed. :-)

Things that I love from our Wedding Video:

• How me and my ‘maids are THE BEST at fake laughing for pictures and video. I love how we totally don’t hide our fake laughing in the video. We were pro, for sure.
• How crooked our altar looks in all video/photos. The wind was INTENSE on our wedding day and our altar just wasn’t havin’ it.
• My ugly cry throughout our whole ceremony. All it took was Mr. Knight choking up and I went into full on ugly cry.
• My Dad’s speech. He had such a sweet speech. ♥
• Mr. Knight’s face after I kissed him during our First Look. Priceless.
• Us showing off our rings and Mr. Knight saying “Now we’re married… just kidding.” What is he trying to say here? Silly Mr. Knight.
• Hello, I have the most beautiful bridesmaids ever, and this video shows it.
• The “Gator Mom” tag on the back of our getaway car. Classic. Y’all can’t see it but, I know it’s there, which is all that matters. :-)
• How sweet, meaningful and very ‘us,’ our wedding video is.

Erika Rydell, our lovely videographer, did an amazing job. She was there (with a 2nd shooter) for something like 12 hours, and made sure to capture every moment of our day. Her packages run from $700-$1600, making her super affordable in the HD wedding videography field.
