Gay or egalitarian weddings are based on the right of all human beings to love, be loved and to form a family before society and the laws.

But this road has not been easy and almost 10 years of the legalization of equal marriage that gave birth to the so-called gay weddings, the reality is that people want to have and live a wedding, the sense of togetherness and to form a new family , a new stage in their lives ... LGBT couples want to live and feel reflected in their wedding ceremonies.

Now, part of the job of reinventing weddings, from conception to protocol, is about making the couple feel good and that this ceremony and party really reflects the joy and commitment that the couple is acquiring, that's why the ceremony wedding is especially important and we will tell you why:

1.- It has been a long struggle for equality: having a civil wedding or a spiritual or humanistic ceremony, resides in the fact that all couples want to "be united" and be validated before their eyes and those of their loved ones . Whether there is a civil wedding ceremony or some spiritual or religious, even secular, it is important to give special attention as the center of what is being celebrated.

2.- Nobody knows what to expect in a gay wedding: Well we do, wedding experts know that the ceremony is the emotional center of the wedding and that people want to live that moment. Take the time to reinvent what you know as a wedding ceremony, research traditions, question the roles and start creating a range of experiences for your lesbian-gay clients

3.- Think in the background not in the form: the whole ceremony should be based on the most emotional and rewarding aspects for couples and their guests, focus on the concept of love, justice, equality along with the meaning of symbols traditional as: exchange rings, sign a record, have witnesses.

4.- Couples will appreciate your help: focusing on the ceremony, you start by planning the wedding from a very emotional, important aspect and that couples do not have much idea of how to do it. Your specialized help will be essential to turn that event into a romantic and unforgettable experience.

5.- Create new options to celebrate the commitment: Once you reflect on the first 4 points, you will be in the capacity along with your experience, to enrich the experiences of ceremonies for all your clients and create new rituals that can be incorporated into everything type of ceremonies to make them more special and different from the rest of the ceremonies.

As you can see, thinking outside the box not only benefits your clients but also increases the innovation capacity of your business and helps you create new experiences that can positively differentiate you and make you relevant to the new generations of couples who want a very special celebration .

be stable under a new U.S. Supreme Court (SCOTUS). (In case you missed it, Justice Anthony Kennedy announced his retirement last week and our President will be likely to appoint an even more conservative Justice. Justice Kennedy, a moderate, wrote the majority opinions in the two cases that brought about marriage equality in the U.S.)

The short term answer to the question, "Is marriage equality stable?" is: "For the next few years, yes."

The long term answer is, "I sure hope so."

See, nationwide marriage equality cannot be overturned unless there's a new marriage equality-related case which SCOTUS hears, and then rules to overturn.
That is not a quick process, and there are no current cases that relate. Any case heard before the Court would first need to make its way through the
appeals process, which takes a few years. Then SCOTUS would need to choose to pick up the case or let a lower court ruling stand. If SCOTUS picked
up the case, they would hear the arguments, and rule about 6 months later. In my non-legal-scholar-but-educated-observer-opinion, the earliest that
marriage equality could be overturned would be fall 2020.

This NY Times article goes into further detail.

Can I answer any questions for you?

giving him permission to discriminate against same-sex couples on religious grounds. The ruling was very narrow and specific to his case and cannot
be applied to other cases. There is still an open question about whether discrimination on religious (or artistic) grounds is acceptable.

---

You may have heard the news that the U.S. Supreme Court will rule any day now about the case of the baker in Colorado who refused to bake a wedding cake for a gay couple because of his religious and artistic beliefs.
This case is a BIG DEAL because it asks the questions, "What is art?", "Who can businesses refuse service to?" and perhaps even, “What is religion?”

In May, the Gay Wedding Institute partnered with Kathryn Hamm of WeddingWire and MBKinsights to study wedding professionals (the group most impacted by the ruling) in advance of the upcoming decision.

Specifically, we asked, “Should wedding-related businesses be able to refuse to provide services to same-sex couples based on religious objections or required to provide those services to same-sex couples as they would all other couples?”

This same question was asked of the general U.S. population last year by Pew.
That study found that 49% of Americans believed wedding businesses should be required to serve all couples. Here are the results of
    our wedding-professional-specific survey:

67% of wedding professionals believe wedding-related businesses should be required to serve same-sex couples.

Wedding professionals who have provided services or products to a same-sex couple (85%) are more likely to support the requirement that wedding-related
business serve same-sex couples as they would all other couples. Conversely, wedding professionals who have not provided services or products to
same-sex couples (14%) are more likely to say that businesses should be able to refuse services.

Officiants, wedding planners and photographers/videographers are more likely to support the requirement to serve than the opportunity to refuse to
serve same-sex couples. DJs are more likely to believe that wedding-related businesses should be able to refuse service.

Wedding businesses based in New England (ME, NH, VT, MA, RI, CT) overwhelmingly support the requirement to serve (87%). Those based in West South Central
US (TX, OK, LA, AR) are most closely split, with a slim majority supporting the requirement to serve (52%).

A majority (58%) of wedding-related services that involve some artistry (photography/videography; florists; lighting/decor designers; invitations;
DJs; ceremony music; bands; and wedding cakes) support the requirement to serve same-sex couples.

It's clear that in almost every category of wedding professional, there is agreement that businesses should be required to serve same-sex couples
- even when there are religious objections, and even in those categories which we classified as ‘artists’, an argument for freedom of expression being
made by Jack Phillips of Masterpiece Cakeshop.

Finally, important to note: our Study on Wedding Service Refusal allowed for open-ended comments, and 25% of those who left comments revealed
that they both supported the ability to refuse to serve, and also think that same-sex couples shouldn’t be denied service.

This qualitative data reinforces that, regardless of the outcome of Masterpiece, the wedding industry as a whole will largely be a safe place for same-sex
couples to express their love through marriage. What do you think?

My answer was simple: Google.

Back then, I was living in Boston and marriage equality had just come to the state. Of course same-sex couples were going to be Googling “gay wedding planner”
    – and because that was so obvious to me, I committed my resources to Google Adwords (and taught myself a thing or two about meta tags and keywords). Without much more marketing effort,
the phone started ringing, and, to my surprise, I was hearing from media as much as couples. Reporters were contacting me to learn more about my business
and its’ goal to be an advocate for these couples navigating a traditional industry. News articles followed, most of which linked to my website, and soon my website was on the first page of Google organically, without any paid Adwords.

When I decided to open a NY office of my company after marriage equality came to the state, I followed the same formula. I added keywords like “NYC gay
wedding planner” to my website, created a dedicated NY weddings page, and was showing up on the first page of Google when the law officially changed
on June 24, 2011. The next day my phone started ringing with calls from reporters, who wrote articles with links, and, you get the picture.

A few weeks later, I decided to create NYC elopement packages,
but would need to market them in states that didn’t have same-sex marriage, so I went back to Google Adwords campaigns strategically appearing in cities
like Dallas, Atlanta, Houston, and more. I knew couples there would be searching the internet with LGBT-specific search terms. The formula worked.

How is this years-old advice still relevant? Over the past few months, I’ve had a number of conversations with wedding vendors who want
to be the overtly LGBTQ-friendly beacon of light in the sea of more conservative / non-inclusive vendors in the area. One way they can do that is to
show up on the first page of Google. According to the 2017 WeddingWire Newlywed Report, 20% of couples are still searching with those LGBT-specific terms, especially in places where they might fear rejection. This is their top
priority. The good news for you is that most vendors don’t bother with LGBT-specific Search Engine Optimization (SEO) so it could be easy for you to
position yourself, especially in a quiet market.

Of course, this advice is irrelevant if LGBTQ couples don’t feel included or represented when they visit your website.
You have to do that first.

My advice is different for those of you who service major blue cities like New York, Los Angeles, Chicago, Seattle and others. In those cities, LGBTQ couples
expect your friendliness to be a given. They are less fearful of rejection, so they are less likely to search LGBTQ-specific search terms, and your
SEO is less important (though good SEO always helps). Assuming your portfolio and other marketing materials are inclusive (duh), those
things will drive an LGBTQ couple’s decision to contact you.

My bottom line: don’t ignore the most basic form of marketing, getting found on the first page of Google. SEO still matters. And yes, we can help your
business get found. Don't hesitate to reach out.

Many businesses use
this slower time of year to freshen up the images on their website, create new blog posts, and generally prepare to sell in the early part of the year.
This is the perfect opportunity for your business to make steps towards inclusivity.

There are a few major corporations which have stood out boldly in the past few weeks with ads that have included gay and lesbian couples. Take a look at
some of the ads below by fearless companies such as Hershey, Hallmark, Nordstrom, Sprint and Zales Jewelers and decide if this approach
is something that you are ready to take in your own business.

If you don't have images yet of same-sex couples, consider some of the stock photography images we have for sale right here on the site. If you do have images of same-sex couples already, be proud to include them in your portfolio. The right couples
will come to you if you're not afraid to be bold.

2016 Presidential election), two of my planner colleagues posted shared that gay clients asked if they should move the wedding date up because of the
    potential repeal of marriage equality.

I want to tell you how to respond if you are getting similar questions from your couples. The short answer is: there's nothing to worry about now.

For same-sex marriage rights to be repealed, a case would have to go to the Supreme Court again. The earliest a decision could be made is June 2018, if
a case even makes it that far. Your LGBTQ clients and friends should be safe until then, and hopefully after.

Now, more than ever, LGBTQ couples will be concerned about their safety when planning their wedding/honeymoon/travel and just living their lives.

There are all kinds of concerns your LGBTQ friends and clients may have (a federal law permitting religious-based discrimination nationwide, repealing
anti-discrimination protection for LGBT government workers and more). I am hopeful that those will not come to pass.

If you want to discuss what action you can take (as a business or individual) to show your support of the LGBTQ community and let them know they are safe with your company, please email me and we'll chat.

     In general, I think
it's dangerous to generalize and foolish to put people in boxes. That said, there are some striking differences in the wedding planning activities
of gay men versus lesbians. I’ve seen this over time in my wedding planning career and in your role as a wedding professional, I think it's important
to be aware of some of these differences/trends in order to best serve your clients.

Lesbians are female, and most of them identify as brides, are therefore much more "bridal" - and they are also more traditional as a result. If you think
about it, since a very young age, many girls have been indoctrinated into the idea of having a wedding, their fairytale princess fantasy. It's just
been something that's been expected of young girls for decades – lesbian girls included!

Gay men, on the other hand, were unlikely to have been raised dreaming about their wedding. It's just not something that parents talk to sons much about
during their childhood, the way those same parents might talk to their daughters about it. As a result of this, plus the wedding industry’s focus on
“the bride”, and the gender roles that play a part in most wedding traditions, gay men are far less traditional on their wedding days.

The survey of contemporary couples that my company conducted with WeddingWire, GayWeddings.com and Community Marketing validates my experiences as a wedding
planner. For example, we found that gay men are far less likely to want to follow wedding traditions such as something borrowed, something blue (35%
of lesbians adhere to this tradition vs 7% of gay men), doing a first dance (43% of lesbians vs 18% of gay men), changing their name (42% vs 7%), having
a wedding shower (23% vs 4%), and many other traditions. You can take a look at the full report at this link.

You may also find that gay men are less likely to even have a sit down dinner and instead choose a cocktail reception. You may find that gay men are interested
in hiring a DJ with experience in clubs as opposed to a DJ whose experience is primarily limited to weddings. You may find that gay men are interested
in a fashion photographer rather than a traditional wedding photographer. Gay men may even be interested in picking out the attire of their waitstaff,
and may ask for model bartenders/servers! I once had a gay client ask for a cute young male wedding officiant! Is that discriminatory? No, because
someone's appearance is not a protected class… but there's no doubt that it's shallow.

Lesbians, on the other hand, are more likely to hire people in the wedding industry for their wedding. They care far less about a vendor’s appearance.
They care more about things like safety, experience with same-sex weddings, budget, and other concerns.

I also mentioned above that most lesbians do identify as brides. This may surprise you to know that there are some who do not identify as brides, and actually
feel more comfortable with the term “bridegroom”. Lesbians who are more masculine in appearance, might be wearing a tux instead of a wedding dress,
might not be walking down the aisle, and might take on some of the more masculine roles in the relationship are probably not going to see themselves
as brides. On the contrary, gay men, even those with a more feminine gender expression, typically identify as grooms and seldom subscribe to traditional
bride/groom gender roles on their wedding day.

Although the differences I’ve seen in the course of my wedding planning career are backed up by solid data, please don’t assume these to be the case with
your clients. It’s always dangerous to assume – with any client! You’re going to have fun with your LGBTQ couples – however they choose to express
    themselves on their wedding day!

Encuentra a esas personas buscando
