So, it’s been a while since I have blogged, but if you read my last post, you probably aren’t surprised.  My hair has grown nicely into a fauxhawk, but more about that later.

Dear friends-

As many of you know, my mom Cathy is fighting breast cancer.  As a show of solidarity, I shaved my head with her three weeks ago.  It wasn’t a difficult decision to make.  When my mom started crying when it was time to shave her head, I knew I had to do it.  However, it has been difficult to deal with since it is a constant reminder that my mom is sick.  Several of you have asked me to post a picture. I delayed doing so for a couple of reasons.  Firstly, I was worried that what was done as an act of love and support for my mom might be misconstrued as a cry for attention.  It also felt very personal and I wasn’t sure it was something I wanted to share with everyone.  Secondly, I have been pretty self-conscious of my bald head.  I think I have a pretty decently shaped head, but I’m not sure this is something I’ll ever do again.

Since I shaved my head I have heard stories from many of you telling me of your own struggles with cancer and those of people close to you.  Your stories have really moved me, and I feel like I did this for you, too.  My prayers are with all of you who are dealing with similar struggles, and THANK YOU to all of you who have encouraged me and shared your stories with me.

I hope that even if it looks a bit strange that my shaved head will inspire you to do something bold to show the people in your life that you love them— even if they are healthy.  Our lives are fragile! Let’s try to make each other’s lives the best they can be by demonstrating how much we love one another.
