Unfortunately Rosie and The Goldbug have had to pull out of this year's Middlesbrough Music Live. Touch wood, they're the first band to pull out this year, which is a relief. They've probably heard that pulling out of Music Live results in fame and fortune (Friendly Fires last year, Foals the year before, The Fratellis the year before that... ah well!)

Thankfully, we've lined up an absolute beauty to replace them.

Vagabond are a five-piece hailing from Uruguay, Denmark, east London and Huddersfield and they've just signed to the newly revived Geffen label. Their old-fashioned blue-eyed soul will appeal to lovers of "smoov" balladry and lapsed soul fans who remember old-style R&B. Unashamedly pop, they've earnt comparisons to the likes of Wet Wet Wet and Simply Red and they blast down the middle of the road with a vengeance! Just check out their top tunes on the ol' myspace - http://www.myspace.com/vagabond - and you'll soon see why James Morrison hand picked the band to support him on his recent sold out UK tour...

"If Duffy can successfully repackage 60s soul, there's no reason why Vagabond can't do the same for the 70s variety." The Guardian

This is what they said about it:

"Stornoway sound to us like a British response to US acts like Fleet Foxes, with a bit of XTC thrown in. Zorbing is a really charming debut and it grabbed us on first listen. After headlining the Radio 1 Big Weekend Introducing stage in Swindon, they'll play 4 different stages at Glastonbury this year. Radio support includes strong plays and planned sessions for 6Music and R1 evening shows. Press has come in the shape of a First Sight feature in The Guardian by Michael Hann and a forthcoming Q Magazine Next Big Thing feature."

Not bad, eh? The Record of the Day folks aren't the only people who are tipping Stornoway - Ten Feet Tall headhoncho Graham Ramsay loves 'em and he worked dead hard to secure them for the festival. Marvellous.

You can listen to the track on the Record Of The Day site:

Well, hotly tipped Londoners Golden Silvers were on Later with Jools Holland last night and they were proper good. Well and truly justified their hot tip.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/later/artists/goldensilvers/

You can use the iPlayer thingy to watch it back, or you can just go and see them on the Evening Gazette stage at the Town Hall at Middlesbrough Music Live on Sunday 7th June...

GOLDEN SILVERS
www.myspace.com/thegoldensilvers

Signed to the legendary XL Recordings imprint (Vampire Weekend, Dizzee Rascal, White Stripes etc), Golden Silvers are a thoroughly intriguing proposition. New single "True Romance" is a bona-fide dance-floor classic full of massive pop-hooks, 60s psychedelia synths and Bowie-esque beats.

NME recently gave their debut album a rather glowing 8/10 review and they were pretty impressed by the live side of things too:

"Golden Silvers unleashed a compelling and pogo-inducing set of disco and psych-rock-tinged scatter pop, particularly the groove-ridden floor-stomper of 'Shakes' to 'Lily The Lover''s frantic rhythms, skew-whiff keyboards and sweetly sung melodies. However, it's Prince cover 'It's Gonna Be A Beautiful Night' - complete with horn section which segues into anthemic first offering 'Arrows Of Eros' - that really sends people wild."

It's been a hectic week at Middlesbrough Music Live HQ to say the least! With the print deadline looming for this year's brochure, we've been working around the clock to finalise the line up and get everything in place.

You'll be happy to know that it looks like we should be announcing the line up early next week, but those budding young Jonathan Creeks amongst you will probably have already discovered a fair few of the confirmed bands - the top friends on http://www.myspace.com/middlesbroughmusiclive will provide you with some pretty good clues!

As I'm feeling pretty generous, I thought I'd let you in to a few secrets before the line up is officially unveiled on Monday. Here's three acts who'll be performing this year that you should most certainly check out:

FRANK TURNER
www.myspace.com/frankturner

With almost 2 million listens on myspace, appearances at all the best festivals, a session in Jo Whiley's Radio 1 Live Lounge and songs featured everywhere from Hollyoaks to Sky Movies, Frank Turner's CV is starting to look pretty impressive! Oh, there's also the small matter of a full American tour with The Offspring coming soon too. Smashing. If you've not heard Frank before - you're missing a treat. He's been a favourite of ours for some time now and as the missing link between Billy Bragg and Black Flag, we couldn't ask for a more engaging and entertaining act to headline our Sumo Rock stage.

"One of the best singer songwriters of our generation." Mike Davies (Radio 1)

THE RUMBLE STRIPS
www.myspace.com/rumblestripsuk

Let's get rrrrrrrrreaaaaaaady to rrrrrrrumble... strips! Favourites of (and collaborators with) Mark Ronson, The Rumble Strips are the perfect festival band thanks to toe-tapping tracks like 'Alarm Clock', 'Motorcycle' and 'Girls and Boys In Love' which are guaranteed to get the most stubborn of legs shaking. New album 'Welcome To The Walk Alone' was produced by the aforementioned Mr Ronson and is scheduled for release this summer on Universal Island Records' imprint Fallout Records. We can't wait!

"An unstoppable slew of urgent, high-stepping, pure white soul hits - this band just swing. If you see The Rumble Strips live, I defy you not to have a good time - and that's what this 'gig' malarkey is all about isn't it? 8/10" Drowned In Sound

MASTER SHORTIE
www.myspace.com/mastershortie

One of BBC's "Sound Of 2009" nominees (alongside Little Boots, VV Brown, Lady GaGa etc), Master Shortie recently wowed the crowds as main support for Basement Jaxx and he's also toured with the likes of Hadouken and The King Blues. Despite being just 19, he's more than ready to unleash his molten mix of The Rapture, Outkast, DMX, Usher, Klaxons, Prince, Axel F and drum'n'bass on the world. The question is, is the world ready for such an unquantifiable boy genius as MS?!

"Tipped as the next star of British hip-hop, the fluorescent Master Shortie spans the roles of grime MC, cool club kid and teen-friendly pop singer, with a dash of indie influence thrown in." BBC Sound Of 2009

Loads more announcements coming soon...
