I know there’s not a lot to hate about porridge. It’s white, mushy, and can be a bit tasteless without something to sweeten it. It’s probably safe to say that the hatred I used to feel for the stuff was so strong, I would have starved for a few days rather than eat it.

Like I said, all this started eight years ago when I was in Year 10. It was 2001 and I had just moved to Australia to study. I was living with an aunt and a couple of distant cousins who were in Australia for high school as well.

During my stay at my aunt’s house, I shared a room with a cousin who was pretty decent, except for the fact that he liked LOVED hip hop and r ‘n b. Now I’ve got nothing against those two genres, my iTunes library will testify to that, but my cousin absolutely loved listening to Tupac and Boys II Men.

Imagine waking up every morning to the sound of “Changes” and “End of the Road” and proceeding to get ready for school and having breakfast (see, I’m getting to the porridge!) while listening to similar songs to these over and over and over again.

Needless to say I developed a hatred for these songs, and anything associated with it, waking up, getting out of bed, soy milk and having porridge for breakfast.

All this changed a couple of weeks ago when I saw a box of instant oats in the pantry and decided to try them, just the one time.

I can happily say that I have officially gotten over my hatred for porridge and I feel sorry for not eating it for the last eight years.

They say that when you’re getting back on the bloggin wagon, it’s good to blog about anything, so bearing that in mind, this is going to be a random post, one of many that will be coming in the future.

The two new ones on the list are Hide & Neek (updated by @Neekatron aka Annik Skelton) and I Live With Crazy People (updated by @megsandbacon aka Megan Leonard). Hide & Neek is an especially great read if you’re interested in butterfly homicide, weight loss, drunken Contiki reps, and telling lies to get out of Africa. Megan’s blog, I Live With Crazy People, teaches you how to speak a new language, her housemates nutritional intakes, phone swallowing and has a great how-to on the game ‘John Edwards’.

Another new blog on the list is my good friend Josh’s (aka @buccaneerbrucey) webcomic, Buccaneer Brucey which originally featured goth-y-but-cute characters evolved into a comic featuring Mr Wormy and now does great single panel comics like these:

I loved it so much, I decided to try recording myself singing a little bit of the song in Audition, attempting to do all the parts. It’s not really a sucess, but give it a listen anyway.

Even though the podcasts are meant for people who do little to no exercise, I was having trouble after the first 60 second run! Now I’m not humungous, but apparently I’m really really unfit.

After some discussion with Adam last night, we decided that I need to work my way up to the first day of the podcast, so this week brings lots of brisk walking and a few 60 second runs. Hopefully Wednesday night will be more productive that last night was.

Here’s a list:

1. I found a mini version of my cologne bottle, which is perfect for travelling
2. A night out at the casino made me $4o (I know, I’m a high roller)
3. My best man speech is more or less finished

The wedding is less than a day away, and I’m definitely feeling a little bit of pressure, seeing it’s my first time being best man. 

I hope it’s not too painful…

While I was writing the speech, this blog post was particularly helpful in giving me ideas and walking me through the whole process of speechwriting. 

Now all we have to do is wait till the wedding and see if the speech works or not.

(I was totally not sucking my stomach in for the before photo…)

And to top it all off, I had this delicious little pastry thingamabob stuck in front of my nose. If this doesn’t stop, I won’t need to go looking for food because I’ll have my own field of gravity that can attract my food for me!

While we were talking about the story, this question wormed its way from the dirty back burner of my mind and I finally asked a question that had been simmering for a few years: Is there such a thing as an atheist evangelist?

I know that there are people who go around advocating their belief that there is no God, but is there someone out there who is the atheist equivalent of Billy Graham? Is there a giant white tent somewhere, where thousands of non-believers flock to hear a man speak about the absence of an almighty deity and how we should all not believe in him?

Apparently one of my monitors has decided to call it quits four months after being bought. After extensive troubleshooting, I think it’s safe to say that the monitor’s fuse has blown.

I can see the future, and my visions tell me that a trip to JB HiFi will occur tomorrow morning.
