Tues, Sept 29, 1:00-2:00 PDT/2:00-3:00 MDT
Webinar

Although mountains comprise the majority of the Great Basin, their climate and wildlife are under-studied. Our team is taking advantage of historical (1898-1956) surveys, 21 years of more-systematic and more-comprehensive recent surveys, and a diversity of technological and modeling advances to help us tackle numerous questions at the interface of how Great Basin systems work ('basic science') and how Basin resources may be managed and conserved, amidst contemporary climate change and other influences ('applied science'). Erik Beever, USGS, presents.

Humans have used fire to manage forest vegetation for a long time. However, relatively recent changes in fire regimes have presented challenges for people tasked with managing these dynamic ecological systems. Climate change, drought, increasing fuel loads and disease-stricken trees have many researchers considering the role of fire as a tool for restoration. This conference will bring together leading experts, land managers and scientists for a two-day discussion on this timely topic. You don't want to miss this conference. We hope to see you there!

The theme of the 6th Fire Congress is “Advancing Ecology in Fire Management.” We continue to make a lot of progress in the development and dissemination of new information. Our challenge is to continue to bridge the ecology of fire with fire management, and facilitate more collaboration among researchers, educators and managers. The opportunity to meet with each other face-to-face in a conference setting is invaluable to meeting this challenge.

The 5NCGL was an unique, producer-based, national conference that brought together over 450 ranchers, farmers, land managers, grazing specialists & conservationists to learn more about technology advancements, and how to increase the sustainability of the Nation’s grazing lands. The event focused on grazing lands and the conservation benefit they can offer to America’s livestock producers, watersheds and wildlife.
