]]> According to NPD Group sales of vedeo games software and hardware up in US 3 percent in January 2009 from same month year ago. Consumers purchased $445.4 million in video game hardware, it is a 17 percent year -over-year increase. Proof that the video game industry is doing well.

The Wii was the top selling console with 679,000 units, followed by DS with 510,000 units. The Xbox 360 sold 309,000 units and the PlayStation 3 sold 203,000 units.

  1. Wii Fit w/Balance Board – Wii- Nintendo of America – 777,000
  2. Play w/ Wii Remote – Wii – Nintendo of America – 415,000

  5. Call of Duty: World at War – Xbox 360 – Activision – 235,000
  6. Skate 2 – Xbox 360 – EA – 199,000
  7. Guitar Hero World Tour – Wii – Activision – 155,000
  8. New Super Mario Bros – DS – Nintendo of America – 135,000
  9. Mario Kart – DS- Nintendo of America – 132,000

]]> XBox 360 Live service is going to be shutdown for a day on September 29, 2008 in preparation for new software update. New software is promising to bring new interface that will have new categories like channel to view photos, movies and games and also some Primetime channel to play new game show titles.

This new software update will introduce new avatars. Each Xbox Live member will be able to create custom character with thousands of options.

Xbox Live gold subscription became over 22 percent cheaper over $49.99 MSRP.  Xbox 360 Live 12 Month Gold Card plus 1 Month Bonus card is just $38.96 after price cut. Microsoft also discounted some of Xbox 360 hardware. Xbox 360 Core Arcade Bundle is just $199.99 now.

PlayStation 3 Frimware 2.41 fixed 2.40 update issue

]]> Sony has released PlayStation 3 firmware version 2.41. The change from previous 2.40 version is that Sony apparently fixed the problem when consoles became broken by firmware update. The biggest long awaiting feature in game XMB support was introduced in version 2.40.

It’s worth waiting just a little bit longer for new Playstation 3

]]> I am exited about Blue-Ray winning in HD format war and so conveniently stores cleaning out their inventories of 80 GB PlayStation 3 for something bigger and better.

The rumors are that Sony is sticking to their having just two models motto. And that 120-160 GB models with Dual Shock 3 controllers is going to be their top model, hopefully with the old price tag.

“Ars technical” also have posted on why Sony PS3 is better and future proof Blue-Ray player. So with NetFlix plans starting at just $4.99 and ability to use PlayStation 3 as media center it becomes a no-brainer, I need to get one to myself, like now…

Turok Single Player Demo released on Xbox Live

]]> Unfortunately for players in north America the Turok that was scheduled for release on February 5, 2008 suddenly appeared in demo version on Xbox Live in Europe and Asia.

Turok is a first person shooter trying to survive in the jungle and killing dinosaurs. Turok is being designed using the Unreal Engine 3 framework, and will be released for both the Xbox 360 and PLAYSTATION 3.

They built a web site wiitracker.com that automatically checks listed merchants on regular basis to see if they got Nintendo Wii Consoles and systems and bundles in stock. They have RSS feed which makes it super easy to use.

They also suggest to check eBay! Auctions. To make it easier I have put up the search for you
