You haven’t got the money for flight lessons and you certainly can’t afford to buy a full size helicopter, so how do you get to see bird’s eye views? Well the AR Drone, 2.0 app controlled quadricopter from Parrot has the answer, with its nimble flying camera technology and innovative iPhone connectivity. The machine is loosely based on a military spy camera design and is a cool looking flying machine that can be controlled via an iPhone or an iPad. It also transmits live video from its high quality camera to your chosen device.

This is a super fun device that can capture still images and video in 720p HD stream live or take clips, which can be directly shared on Youtube with your friends. It has a radio controlled range of 165 feet with a 12-minute battery life, so be careful not to push it too hard. This is the ultimate in grown up toys and can be used in a variety of innovative and fun ways to create videos or even be used practically to inspect the roof or some difficult-to-see place. As an added bonus, for those who want to feel like a pilot, the device records altitude, speed, flight duration and your coordinates.

Waiting until you smell that telltale sour smell from your milk carton to tell you it has turned may well be a thing of the past someday very soon. This is because GE has been working with a crowd-sourced product design foundry to help develop the Milkmaid milk jug. It is set to be a high-tech container into which you pour your supply of milk for storage. Using an array of sensors, the quality of your moo-juice is assessed by a pH sensor in order to test for acidic content, which indicates spoilage. The temperature is also monitored so you know if the milk has been out too long and a pressure sensor tells you if your jug is becoming empty.

How does all this help you? Well, the clever concept behind the Milkmaid is that these sensors send messages directly to your iPhone or smart phone, telling you when you’re out if you need more milk. As an extra level of appeal, this proposed product is made of glass much like the milk containers of old, making for a nostalgic look with a super high level of new technology. We may have to wait a little while longer while they work out all the bugs and refine the design, but the Milkmaid is set to be an amazing new bit of tech that no household will want to be without. Sniffing the carton tentatively will be a thing of the past and even if you have a cold you will know that your milk’s gone bad.
Some of the “Men in Black 3″ trailers have featured super high tech looking monocycles that seem entirely futuristic, but few may know that they exist and have for a while. The design for monocycles has, in fact, been around since the late 1860s and has been instrumental in the creation of a range of single-wheel devices including the motorized monocycle. These devices are very cool looking, of course, and take a great deal of skill to master, but who could resist driving something like the Men in Black drive.

The innovative gadget firm Hammacher Schlemmer has produced an amazingly cool monocycle that is manufactured in the Netherlands. Sadly, this device is not road legal, but then again you won’t find a monocycle because they are just not suited to normal traffic. This zippy big boy toy is great, however, for those who have a decent bit of asphalt space to play with. It has a 31-cc four-stroke engine that produces 1 1/2 horsepower. This may not seem like much but when you get rolling the monocycle can hit 25 mph and run for up to 2 hours on 1/2 gallon of gas.

Steering is performed by leaning toward the side you wish to turn toward and it can run on most solid surfaces. Because the frame encloses the rider’s area, size matters, so for the most comfortable fit riders should be less than 6′ 3″ tall. In order to get an efficient counterbalance during acceleration riders should be over 110 pounds, and for brakes to be safely effective drivers should be 275 pounds or less.

This is a lightweight vehicle, weighing just 110 pounds, and is great fun if a little tricky to master. You do need some private space to use it because you cannot take it on the open road, but it’s the ultimate toy for adventurous big kids.

Bowers and Wilkins have released a new fun and unique iPod dock in the shape of a zeppelin. At one time inflatable dirigibles, better known as zeppelins, or more commonly today blimps, were considered the transport of the future. In fact, they were so highly thought of that there were plans to use the famous Empire State Building as a mooring point for these massive air ships. Obviously, the zeppelin never really caught on and airplanes became the world’s main mode of international travel, but they still became iconic.

The new Zeppelin Air, as it is known, is a high quality, cool looking iPod dock that will be a great talking point. It has the traditional cigar shape of the iconic zeppelin balloon with a universal Apple docking port, airplay technology, USB streaming to PC/Mac and built-in wireless functionality. This unit does a great job at getting every nuance of sound out of the recordings stored on iPhones, iPods or even iTunes compatible computers. Its five-speaker, five-amp system produces clear and crisp sound.

This is a high tech iPod dock, which is not only fun to look at but is easy to use and quite versatile. It comes with a remote control, allowing it to be controlled from the comfort of the couch, and it also has an ethernet cable so the dock can be hooked up to the computer. The sleek black design with the metallic docking point makes this a really stylish piece of home entertainment equipment. It is not the cheapest option in iPod docks, but excellent reviews from customers who have rated the product at 5 out of 5 stars seem to indicate it is certainly value for money.

It used to be that the answer when traveling a distance that was too far to walk but too close to drive was to take a bicycle. Bikes, however, can be inconvenient and may require a place to chain them up, so along came the motorized skateboard. It was more practical, easier to store and allowed people to travel using a minimum of energy. The only drawback was that motorized skateboards needed a hand-held remote to control the speed, creating a certain level of awkwardness to the rider. Finally, thanks to Intuitive Motion Inc., that problem has been solved with the ZBoard Hands Free Motorized Skateboard.

This innovative new mode of transport provides all the convenience of a skateboard with an increased range of travel distance. Using specially designed weight-sensitive pads at the front and rear of the board, the rider can make the skateboard accelerate, slow down and stop even on an inclined hill. It is the first motorized skateboard to not require a hand-held control.

Fitted with a decent 400-watt motor, the skateboard is capable of going up to 17 mph without the rider having to use their feet to propel the board forward. This top speed is possible with the ZBoard Pro, which has a traveling range of up to 10 miles. The slightly more conservative ZBoard Classic is a little slower at 15 mph, and with a smaller battery can only travel around 5 miles, but that, of course. is still pretty good.

This product is perfect for skateboarders as it rides just like a normal board with the exception that it uses motor power instead of kick power. Its clever design also means it will automatically slow the board when going down hill for safety. The product is extremely simple to control and is much easier to store than a bike, making it the latest in mid-range daily travel.

When a sleek, stylish new car model appears in a high profile movie it’s almost a given that sales of that vehicle will skyrocket. Sometimes, though, the cool wheels depicted in the movies do not really exist in the real world, for example the Light Cycles from “Tron: Legacy.” This is where manufacturers Hammacher Schlemmer come into their own, living up to a reputation of creating unique and unusual products for over 150 years. They have actually created a life-size working replica of the Light Cycles depicted in the 2010 Tron movie.

It is an illuminated, street legal motorcycle, which looks almost exactly like the computer generated cycle from the film. The only real difference is that this sleek, cool motorcycle doesn’t leave a streak of light wherever it goes like its movie counterpart. This vehicle is also not as fast as the one in Tron, as it has been designed more for cruising and ride-bys at sci-fi or motorcycle shows. It has a low-powered Suzuki 996cc fuel injected, 4-stroke engine with a six-speed constant mesh manual transmission.

Everything about this motorcycle is designed to be hidden from view so as to get the sleek look created in the film. It has a wet sump lubrication system, which negates the need for excessive tubes and hoses. The fuel tank is also small, holding just 3 1/2 gallons of fuel, which adds to the minimalist design of the Light Cycle. Each of these cycles is built to order but averages around 8ft 6″ in length, 23 1/4″ wide and 28 1/2″ high.

Innovative design has gone in to making this product as close in appearance to its movie counterpart including a clever drive system that allows the wheels to be hubless. This is the perfect toy for true fans of the movie especially those who want to show it off at conventions. It may not be the super speeder from the movie, but even at low speeds you can use your imagination and feel like you are cruising through the computer world.
