Netbook Choice kindly reviewed the popular Cool Bananas ‘OldSchool’ Netbook Messenger Bag for us. Here’s a quick overview of the comments, although you may want to read the full review here.

“The messenger bag has very classic styling as judged by its ‘OldSchool’ name. It is made out of high standard materials and wouldn’t be seen out of place for business use. Even just looking at it screams of premium quality.”

“As befits the styling of the messenger bag, it’s nice to see that Cool Bananas embossed its logo into the flap rather than including its usual coloured logo that would have seemed out of place. The exterior is made out of a soft leatherette material. You’d be hard pressed to tell the difference between real leather as the texture looks and feels very similar.”

“Overall, reviewing the OldSchool Netbook Messenger Bag reinforced the high regard we have for Cool Bananas products. There is no doubting the high quality of craftsmanship that has gone into its construction and the premium feel of materials used.”

“The only surprising thing about the bag is the price. It feels much more expensive than it is, for less than £30 you get a messenger bag that would not look out of place for business use. This is perhaps where the bag is targeted with the ability to carry around netbooks up to 12.1-inches in size along with enough room for documents and small accessories. Are you trying to find out which version of the Apple MacBook you own? This is a common question from MacBook owners because Apple has released new models under the same name. This can cause problems, for example; when you’re looking to buy a MacBook accessory or MacBook case which is designed for a specific MacBook.

This article aims to tell you the main differences between the recent models of the MacBook so you can work out which model you have or want to buy.

MacBook History

In May 2006, Apple released the first generation black and white MacBook. A unibody aluminum MacBook was subsequently introduced in October 2008. Then in October 2009, a unibody polycarbonate MacBook was introduced.

For the purposes of identifying your MacBook, we now refer to the model using the date it was first introduced i.e. MacBook (13-inch, Late 2009).

How to identify your MacBook

Note: These instructions are only for the MacBook 13″ and not the MacBook Pro.

STEP ONE:

Find out at least one of the following pieces of information:

- Serial Number: on the bottom of the case / the battery bay or system information

- Model Number: on the box, receipt or system information

- Configuration: on the box, receipt or system information

STEP TWO:

Use the information from STEP ONE to find your MacBook in the table below. This will give you the date it was released and allow you to identify which cases and accessories work with your MacBook.

At GearZap we always like to try new products ourselves. With our ever expanding range of MacBook Cases today we tried and tested the new Cool Bananas ‘ShockProof’ MacBook Case.

This case is part of a new range of Cool Bananas MacBook cases which have been very popular among netbook users. As the name suggests, this slip case is designed to protect your MacBook from knocks and bumps with its shock-absorbing memory foam core.

The first thing that strikes you when you pickup one of Cool Bananas ‘ShockProof’ cases is the material used in its construction. It’s called ‘low-resilience polyurethane’, which is another term for memory foam. This is ideal for protecting your MacBook because it’s incredibly light weight but provides excellent protection against shocks.

The image above is a great example of the memory foam used in this case. It slowly adjusts to the shape and contours of your MacBook forming a perfect fit around your laptop. I am using the New 13″ MacBook Unibody for this review and can confirm it is an excellent fit. However based on the internal dimensions it should also fit older MacBooks very nicely too.

In addition to the excellent ’space age’ materials. The case features a double zipper with lip to prevent scratches to the MacBook. The outer ribbing around the edge of the case adds further strength and durability to it’s construction.

- Slim case, does not make MacBook too bulky
