Free Press
Issue #1

This is the long awaited first issue of the free press. We will be bringing you issues that are not covered in the mainstream media, from a different point of view, keeping things as objective as possible.

The murder of Troy Davis
The justice system has never meant justice for black people, only a fool believes that. The system has been developed and tweaked through the years to the near perfect system of slavery and oppression that it is today. The culture in the United States was always designed around the idea of white supremacy.
The reason that this case with Mr. Davis has gained so much attention is sad, although the results are positive. Not that he was murdered by the state of Georgia; killing is not a good thing. The difference this time from all others, more people gave a shit than ever. Times are hard the invisible is now visible; we are noticing other people getting messed over the more we are getting messed over as a whole. The reality is setting in they don’t care about none of us (white people too) over and over we see or are a victim of an unjust system, a corrupt system. The whole system is corrupt from the bottom to the top. We can change this; we all have to get involved in the process of politics, sign petitions, go to rallies, or what ever it takes. We can’t let the movement end with the death of one man. As Troy said himself this didn’t start with him don’t let it end with him. We must keep the fight going.

Marijuana arrest driving Americas “Drug War”
According to the FBI annual crime report; the arrest total is among the highest ever reported. Marijuana arrests now make more than half of all drug arrest. Most are for minor possession charges; most arrested are black.853, 638 arrests for 2010. The answer organize keep the movement alive.
The Prison Industrial Complex has expanded over the years, the biggest growth came when a war was declared by then president Nixon.
There are 2.3 million Americans in prison. This is the highest in the world.

Company Offers Blacks Free DNA Testing
This comes from the website http://theroot.com.There is an article explaining the details on their website.

Inserts from” The Real Guide to Better Health”.
Your health is always your responsibility, there are so many opportunities to over eat the wrong foods, the wrong foods are unhealthy foods, every store you go in has tons of junk foods; fast food restaurants are always within walking distance in almost every neighborhood.. It is in the American culture to practice unhealthy eating habits. Every person is responsible for his or her own health. Don’t think for one second that someone whose only goal in life is to make more money this year than they did last year has any concern for your health. That is the first thing that one must realize. The whole system is designed to make money. Take care of your self take care of your health.

You need to understand that being a barber involves much more than just cutting hair. Just because you can cut a tight fade isn't good enough. There is book work and the curriculum is more on public health and sterilization and sanitation. There are chapters on chemical services razor cutting shaving and more. Be prepared to study, most barber schools teach all the basics of hair care, the better schools teach everything. I didn't know there was a difference between the schools until years after I was in the barber field I have worked in more than a few shops. I went to Louisiana Hair Design College. This school was affiliated with Roflers. The owner of the school was Stewart Smith. He came to our school once, he talked to us and told us a few tips on making it in the business; like absorb all that we had the opportunity to while we were in school, the value of having skills that improve peoples appearance. We can always leave the business and get back in just pay to keep your license current. He told us that being a good communicator was more important than giving a good hair cut. I never forgot that.

When you get into this business don't do it for the money. The potential is there to make fast money there is more to pleasing a customer than just a good cut too. This is a complex business, there's a few reasons why people choose a barber and a few reasons why some one will stick with and follow a barber from shop to shop, some stay, some leave, some come back and some people you never see again. There are several reasons for this too; this is why it is important to always continue to grow your business by always promoting yourself and adding new clients. It is hard to please all people; some people may get mad over an issue what ever that issue might be, right, or wrong the client preserves that you have wronged him, or her in some way. For example skipping people, known as the hot seat, is a bad idea. This is when some high roller comes in and tips the barber a 20 to let him cut to the front. I have never practiced this and I don't advise it to you. People may not say anything, but no ones crazy you are messing over your people.

When you go to school, if you don't already know how to cut hair, you will learn. Not so much from the instructors as much as from the other students that are already ahead of you. You will start out with book work and have to work on a mannequin head. there are a number of haircuts to perform on the mannequin before you can get on the floor and work with the schools clients. If you do already know how to cut keep an open mind you may know a lot or not but you are there to learn the way of the book to pass a test. Most states require that you complete 1500 hours of study before e you can take the state exam.

Most of the owners don't understand how to run a barbershop, most are not full service shops; this makes these shops limited service shops. The barbers in Texas, all that I have run across only cut hair. The barbers in Houston in the black barber shops don't offer shampoos, color or texturizers. These are services that a good barber should offer. Other services are lacking these are just a few of the basics from my observation. Most of the barbers cant or wont use sheers to cut hair, I think that is a lazy barber. A good barber should have at least basic knowledge of all his tools and equipment.

Why have your clients going home with do it your self kits when you should be offering these services. If you go to Atlanta or you will see barbers doing a variety of services that the clients want.

While you have your client in the chair you should offer him the shave or shampoo or color what ever suites that particular client and enhances his appearance. As a barber part of your job is to pamper your client. You are suppose to make your client look as good as you can you should at least ask if they want their nose hairs cut, offer to cut the hair from their ears a shave beard or mustache trim. You can ask them; have you ever thought about coloring your hair? If you notice that they are coloring their hair you can remind them that you offer those services. He or she may not know; especial if you don't have a sign posted with the services that you offer and a price list.

You should have learned all of this in school, but I am speaking on my experience with working in barbershops in Texas, and Houston to be more specific. I have worked with a few good barbers but even those guys offered limited services. The barbers most of the ones that I have worked with are all about a dollar. Most of the so called master barbers are not masters at all many think they know what it is any many define it according to their personal limitations a true master barber should be one that offer all barber services to his clients and conducts himself or herself as a professional at all times. If you believe that it is gay to shampoo hair or other basic barbershop services you will always be a borderline barber and not a master barber and that's ok some body has to be second best and some one has to come in last too.

Part 2

I was trained to offer many services to be able to do men and woman's hair some of my school goes above and beyond what an average barber does. We were taught to do color and perm relaxers and the whole nine. The poor quality of schools in Houston as well as low standards in the barber shops in general are what make Houston so over populated with barbers and barber shops. I guess a bad economy is pushing a lot of people that would ordinarly be doing something else into the barber business it appears to be a field with money and money can always be made cutting hair it is a matter of building up client and that can go many ways most of the shops don't put any advertising all that I have worked in do not spent any money on advertising. You are responsible for that completely on your own. Some owners might get a few fliers made up for you, but most wont it is all on you. Most of the shops are not well lit or they are a front for other business activity. The people in Houston most it seems have no loyalty they will go any place and get a haircut. What ever they are closest to. This makes it hard for a barber to build a business the barber business from what I have seen in Houston is rather inconstant, you can hardly depend on making a set amount of money. It seems like it takes years to get established before one can make a living from just cutting hair.

All barbers cut hair that is the same across the board. Every city state and region has its own culture and sub culture. Barbers are at the center of what makes any place the way it is. People will set trends and styles change. The styles and the look of the people in any area speak for what the trendy styles are; if they are done well or not. In areas where barbers are not doing much, more people will be doing their own hair, or going to a friend or some one in the neighborhood.

Some places are known for having quality barbers and stylist; others have a bad reputation for not being so good. There is a need for better schools. A good school will produce good professionals to work in the hair care business. Money is the main motive of most people in all business. Greed overrides quality every time.

Is important enough to repeat, use your time wisely; time waits for no man. You don't get to call a time out in life, the clock keeps on ticking. You can take a break, but the world keeps on spinning around and around. We have to do all we can to be productive in the time that we are up. Get as much done as you can do to the best of your ability.

If you are a slacker and you go to work just to get a paycheck; chances are you will be in a spot like that for the rest of your life. You are dishonest and deceptive if you practice riding the clock or other stealing. How could you hope to move on to better things, if you are cheating your boss out of hours? you can claim that the boss is rich and he don't pay you enough. The fact that the boss is rich is beside the point. It makes it hard to run a business. People get hired because the owner needs people to fill positions and get work done. The work still has to get done. You just spread that burden on to your co workers. Prove yourself more useful and you can earn more pay. Figure out how to make your self useful rather than how to get over.

In my opinion people should always be striving to better themselves. The average American seems unconcerned about making improvements in their life. Most people seem to get caught up in routines. Patterns, daily patterns that don't change much at all people that run late for everything keep running late. Change comes slow for most and with great resistance.

Keeping notes can help you remember just writing something down will help you remember. Keeping a day planner can help you remember and manage your time better. There is not much way around the idea that an organized person will be able to manage there time better than some one that is not organized. Get it together, get your self a small note book get an organizer a pack of ink pens what ever else you may need to help you be more organized. The outside surroundings will most of the time mirror the inside mental state of a man. If you're living in clutter and disarray you probably have a lot going on there is no separating mind from body you have to be together mind body and soul to be a complete person.

There is a time and a place for every thing there is time to chill out and do nothing at all; you can get a lot done and have a ball while doing it. You don't have to be doing back breaking work. You should relax and not be stressed.

This makes competition steep. It seems like everyone is trying to get in the business. What business? Any and all business; if it looks like people are making money doing it a lot of people are going to want to be in that field. The one exception may be high rise window cleaners and the medical field. Personally I don't like heights; I know I definitely don't want to work around blood and have to cut on people. I don't have the right combination to be a doctor; I have a steady hand, but a weak stomach. There are a lot of Tech and Trade schools, barber and beauty colleges, you don't necessarily have to go to school to write. It can't hurt, but you don't have to go. Most writers I think are struggling, just like a lot of artist and musicians don't make a lot of money, they do it because they love to do it. There are many people writing, new books come out every day, there are a ton of old books too. Endless amounts of Songs and pictures painted and sketched, there are few untapped subjects. There are many, many writers and a large variety of topics. Any thing you can imagine someone is writing about it, that doesn't mean that it isn't worth the try. The same is true with all fields. You can make a living doing what you love to do.

Competition is every where in our lives, it is impossible to avoid all types of competition. Even when you go to fill out a job application at any job, you are competing with the other job seekers. Don't go getting paranoid, that won't help. Realizing where, when and who the competition is. You don't want to bring your self to the point that your walking around with a chip on your shoulder that might get you hurt. I have heard that life is a completive sport, and that is true. The thing is you have to stay positive; being negative will bring negative karma to you. It is best to realize that there is enough for every one there is your slice of the American dream waiting for you. All you have to do is claim it.

The way out of the completion, is to give all that you have, in every thing you do, do your best, put forth your best effort. Go to the job interview looking, sounding, and smelling your best, every time. Your best means having a resume typed up, to know why you want to work for that particular company. More thought needs to be put into job searching not just working for who ever will tolerate you. Get it in gear.

I would suggest waiting until the child is at least one year of age. The first few hair cuts should be a style that can be done quickly. The barber should use clippers that are quiet, noisy clippers will probably scare the child, because getting a haircut is a new experience. Most parents don't understand that getting a haircut is a big thing for a one year old; if they are made to be afraid of the barber or the clippers it will be a lot longer for them to sit still to get a complete hair cut. Most parents will insist on getting the front of the hair lined /edged up, even though that part of the haircut terrifies the child. For the first haircut in most cases I would suggest not to get the front lined/edged up. Small children have a short attention span, the faster the cut is over and the happier they are at the end of it are important to how they will be for the next time. You don't want you child dreading getting a hair cut; If you traumatize them they will be that way for a long time. This is a tip, if the boy cries like the barber is pulling his teeth, something is wrong, maybe it's nap time, the clippers could really be hutting him, or he thinks he is going to be hurt since the last barber hurt him he thinks that all barbers will do this and he fights the new barber every time he gets his hair cut.

If you never or rarely brush or comb your child's hair as a mother or father you must realize that he will not want a stranger fooling around with his head. Parents have to make time to shampoo there child's hair at least once per week and brush or comb at least twice a day this way you are familiarizing them with grooming and showing them the importance of maintaining their appearance. Show them in this way and you will have much less if any problems at the Barber Shop

Find a good barber that is patient with children and stick with him. It is important that you find a barber that your son vibes well with.

The media and some of the radicals (left wing, right wing) on air, radio, TV, news paper, websites are making the issue of health care be a bigger FN deal than what it really is, this is another distraction to take the minds of the masses. They control us by bombarding us with what they want us to see and hear. We have got to take control of our life and hold the elected officials responsible for carrying out the will of the people rather than big business. Fox news keeps coming up on the radar, all media are as guilty. The majority of people follow behind them just like they are supposed to do, without question. People need to learn to think for them self; until then we are at the Mercy of those that are in control, and they have no mercy. The power that is in control depends on the masses to be hypnotized and mesmerized and fall in to their comfortable lifestyle. You want the troops to go fight so you can stay your fat ass on the couch eating processed food; and watching your flat screen. You're programming your self, watching that false reality. Living in a false reality, the reality seems to be that almost everyone has there price. When they sell out they sell us the American people out.

Health care is not the problem; having unhealthy diets lack of exercise is the issue. most of the sickness and diseases could be avoided, if we would follow a few simple rules. The number one is to not violate the laws of nature. When we violate the laws of nature we will pay the price. I would suggest read how to eat to live, or the mucus less diet healing system, or any of the other probably hundreds of books out there on the subject of health and nutrition. You will see what I have learned through many years of study, health is just the same as any other subject or profession the greedy prey on the weak and uneducated it doesn't matter if your white or black; if you don't know about your body and what it needs and how it works if you go through your whole life not knowing or caring about the nutritional value or the lack of in the food that you eat then you are putting your life in the hands of others assuming that because it has been approved by the USDA that that means something. The USDA is bought and sold by big business like the rest of the world.

<embed src="http://www.disclose.tv/embedPlayer.php?vid=d120db565ef6583b6b850738d" flashvars="config=http://www.disclose.tv/videoConfigXmlCode.php?pg=video_43340_no_0_extsite" quality="high" bgcolor="#000000" width="240" height="290" name="flvplayer" align="middle" allowscriptaccess="always" type="application/x-shockwave-flash" pluginspage="http://www.macromedia.com/go/getflashplayer" allowfullscreen="true"><br><a href="http://www.disclose.tv">Disclose.tv</a> <a href="http://www.disclose.tv/action/viewvideo/43340/Food_Control_The__Truth__About_Codex_Alimentarius/">Food Control:The 'Truth' About Codex Alimentarius Video</a>

Money and prevention of sickness, lack of finances is the real issue, if most don't have it then that's the problem. I am really not concerned one way or the other. I stay healthy and do the right things to maintain my health. If I were to get in an accident I would have to go to the emergency room any way, other than that for the most I am my doctor. Every man should be his own doctor. The sad thing is; nothing is changing. The doctor's talk like they know what's bad or what's good, they keep on studying and coming up with different answers and theories most of them are lost. The medical community will come up with some theory and make it be a fact, then that's what is published in medical journals and text books. It is set solid as a fact; this is the standard way of thinking for most doctors. These lies are spread as the gospel truth, backed with many M.D.'s and P.H.D.'s it is given full credibility. Then something happens some one discovers what science proved was good now is bad. They are getting grants to do this research. They will keep on being wrong because they don't want to know. The have to make simple things seem complicated to keep you confused and in the dark. You don't have to be a scientist or a doctor to understand that a man is a vegetarian by nature.

Understand they benefit them being doctors, hospitals and pharmaceutical companies the companies that manufacture testing equipment for hospitals syringe makers. Some of these are necessary some are not, not in a healthy society. Needles may be necessary but they are more necessary and in more demand for sick people. They make more bullets in war than in peace. The benefit of course is money and the life style that it buys.

In conclusion the country needs a health reform to spread the truth about the food, Put the money into studying the right things instead of just spinning wheels and making foodtriangles (to confuse you).

This goes back to focus also, with out focus and knowing what it is that we want to accomplish. We are lost. I have been having trouble staying on track; if I have that problem I am sure that many people have that problem. I know what must be done all that's left is to sink in and start making something happen. The thing is it can all be a little overwhelming at times. What I have started to do is to write list, and as I work my way through I will check off the things that I have done. I have been side tracked and distracted by life's major and minor obstacles. I won't go much into that the thing is there are many methods and techniques to get on track to stay on track and many other self help books and motivational books and recordings. One has to only seek to find the information that you seek is probably only a click away.

I am working my plan and planning my work. Not that this is not, I am sharing what I am dealing with to let someone know that we are all going through things. We can make it, if they can do it then I can do it, and if I can do it so can you. Some people don't realize is number one you get what you pay for. It is rare to find value at a cheep price. I will not say that it is impossible but not likely, not for a third of the price. Most things are regulated and a standardized price is made no one varies more than a few cents or in most cases within a dolor range. There is a standard price for a car there is a blue book that establishes a standard price. Gasoline stations at the most might be 10 cents. Every industry I can think of has a standard price.

Most of the price gauging is oriental shops. They set up there 3.99 shops and the cut buy volume. Most of the cuts are done in less than 10 minuets. Most of those cuts are a mess but I can understand some people are on a budget and they mostly don't care how there hair looks. Some people just want a cut. Cutting hair by volume may sound like a good concept, but I think it is not. Hair is not inventory you can't order a hair cut. It takes a little more than the time that they put in to cut someone's hair well. Any one can run the clippers across a head and the hair is going to cut.

Even in a slow economy there is enough to go around for every one. There is money to be made by all; some people will never pay over a certain amount for a hair cut, and that's that to them, a hair cut is not important to those people. The fact is they sell home hair cut kits in stores and Cheep hair clippers are available to anyone at any chain store; just like most professions there is almost always a way for a person to do some things for them self. Everyone doesn't call a plumber or a mechanic or even a doctor unless absolutely necessary.

You get what you pay for

Busy is not always better

No question about that there are other things that make a writer a writer. A person that chooses the field of writing what ever accept or filed that a person chooses or what chooses them depends on how you look at it. Everyone that writes is not that good at it sometimes the only difference between them and you is that they're doing it and you are thinking about doing it. I have started to read some books and I had to put it down. The flow just wasn't there. It was to hard to follow the story. Others on the other hand I could barley put down and could hardly wait to pick them back up. I am Gee The Barber the writer the artist all one in the same.

I didn't want to leave you hanging too long for more so this is a short and sweet quickie about the subject of writing not a detailed version. That gives me one week to find another place of employment. Oh well I rode it out till the fat lady sang that's for sure. I had a feeling that it would happen like that. All I can do is move on no hard feelings or any thing like that. It's not like I didn't see it coming. It was good while it lasted when it was good. Aint that crazy. What I mean is that mostly it has been a slow b in here some times it could be good. Sometimes it's nothing. Like fore instance I'm here now on a Friday writing this and there are no customers. Just me and my lap top. I can at least use the time that I have productively. In my opinion there are some changes that could be made to attract more customers. The first thing to do is to scrap the ghetto painted name off the glass. After that change the color on the walls grey is not a color that's good for business. Colors play a part in peoples mind on a subconscious level. In order to be successful in business a business person has to study all aspects of running a business, down to the paint on the walls. The psychology of this can't be taken lightly or overlooked. After painting the walls a color that is more likely to make people feel happy and up rather than depressed; such as (research colors) the next thing to do is put bright florescent lights bright enough to see well. This is important for a beauty and or salon. By the book a shop should be well lit and comfortable. Next but not last is to get better chairs that actually go up and down. Getting chairs that lean back for shaves and facials would not be a bad idea. Next get real shop stations with real mirrors. Then there's the heater. I would definitely get that fixed. The last thing on the list would be to get cable or satellite and a better television. Then the phone number needs to be changed to stop the telemarketers from calling all day. That about sums up the changes that I think would make the shop prosper and why it is not. Beyond the physical changes that would improve the flow of business there is advertisement that needs to be done. With these changes the shop should be successful with the right team of people in it.

Anyway I find my self once again in the unknown zone it's all good every thing happens for a reason and I am sure something positive will come from this.

We have to regroup start over from scratch. Learn the ropes why ropes. The point that I'm trying to make is that it is not as easy to start over, especially with us when we get older the older we get a lot of us get dull or numb to things in life. We fall into certain comfort zones and we have a difficult time moving into another position. I have definitely found my self in that spot too many times to mention the thing is persistence is what pays off. When we are young little kids will keep asking and asking no matter how many times you tell them no they will be persistent and many times it pays for them some time the persistence doesn't pay off but lots of time does pay of for them and it can pay off the same way for us as adults. All we have to do, is to focus on what we want and don't let any one get between us and our goal. There will always be people that are negative. We can't change them, unless we are the one being negative then we cold change that because it is us and that is the only thing that we can control. To an extent we are controlled by the environment that is around us. We really have to get it together as a people and as a society. Are we as Americans so desperate for news, that the issues going on with Tiger Woods in his personal life is news worthy? What a joke has the country stooped so low? I would say that the answer is yes after watching a u tube video about an online suicide. People watched and dared the man to take his life. They wouldn't show a lot of what they do if the people didn't want it. If we weren't buying into this negativity media would change. The paverazi would not be chasing "stars" around if those pictures didn't have value. We want to see these people at there worst. See who is on drugs or who is cheating or gained weight, in the rehab. We love it when others suffer. It makes us feel good. Until that mentality changes Jerry and Maury, and any other person taking advantage of the weak minded and exploiting it as news or entertainment for there personal gain.

Now that some of the big name celebrities have gone on to the spirit world, the media is missing some of its bread and butter, gossip is hot and we want to know the juice. In death they still are talking about Michael Jackson. Don't get me wrong the death of Michael Jackson and the facts surrounding it is news until they take it too far.

With all the real news in the world good and bad not gossip how the hell this guy could call a press conference about his infidelity, man that's not news that's just life. Who the hell cares if Tiger woods is cheating? That's not that important. Tell me some news. You journalist are getting soft and lazy.

I can't only blame them, it is people being mindless and complacent that allows this to happen. It's why we don't have the society of the people choice. Most people I would say want a changed world meaning different laws and legislature and tactics by police, the failed war on drugs and prohibition of marijuana, a valuable plant in many aspects. The fibers from this plant can be used to make clothes shoes ropes soaps and a variety of other uses. Mostly people don't take action until something personally affects them, and even then a lot still won't take action. With that said we must be our own change. We must be the change that we want to see in the world. We all add something to this life; we all affect people. No action is still a move and a choice.

I had a current Louisiana barbers license and I was doing what I thought I could do you Know I thought it was all good; any way I got the license when I saw I was in error and I got it in a few days because I wanted to comply as quickly as possible with the Texas barbers board. I don't even get that but what ever; you know what I'm saying, just want to put that out there for who ever might be interested i think it's straight bullshit
Then to fight it I have to travel from Houston to Austin. I ain't worrying about it I'm just saying that is really out there bad they know they wrong for that shit. Still like I said I just want to put that out there the type of shit that the system do to you on all levels. They must don't know me and evidently are underestimating me. I am going to have to write a few letters to a few people win or loose I will put a little energy into this call it what you want to. I'm working on my skills and wanting to put away the excuses for why I don't write as much as I want to. why I haven't completed more projects. perhaps this is my opportunity to do just that. I could get it together. I think that is just what it is sooner or latter I would realize what it is all about.
Every thing dose happen for a reason. that is so true, we have to put it all together and it is so easy to loose focus but still remember that there is no progress without struggle that's Fredrick Douglas not me but I always try to keep that in mind in those times.

I always have a lot on my mind. These first few blogs for sure will be a lot of that; so I'm just going for what I know, with this here. Some times I feel guilty when I'm writing like I need to be doing something so much more important. I think this is as important as any thing else that I may have going. the thing is we do as people make all types of excuses for why we don't do the things that we say that we want to do it procrastination and it boils down to will power. Will power can be a book it is so simple and complex at the same time just like life can be.
I know that I must stay positive, stay motivated. It may be hard times but it will only be harder if we focus on the negative. we have to stay up. As opposed to being down don't let them keep you down. make something happen thats whats up. we as Americans and as black people have always been strong and resourceful. I see no reason why thing have to change now. we are the same have the same potential as anyone else we only have to believe in our self and the power that's greater than our self.
That's all for now come see me at the shop some times and I can drop some words of wisdom on you. not bragging or any thing. It is what it is. I am Gee The Barber the giftedbarber, you know me.
