It stars Johnny Depp, Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Chloe Grace Moretz, Bella Heathcote and Christopher Lee.

Our Verdict: It’s a rental at best. Decent action scenes can’t save the very 80s style cheese.

‘Battleship’ directed by Peter ‘I Want To Be Michael Bay’ Berg and written by Erich Hoeber and Jon Hoeber and is based on the Hasbro board game. It stars Taylor Kitsch, Liam Neeson, Alexander Skarsgård, Brooklyn Decker and Rihanna.

Based on the classic Hasbro naval combat game, Battleship is the story of an international fleet of ships who come across an alien armada whilst on a Naval war games exercise. An intense battle ensues over sea, land and air. What do the aliens – known as ‘The Regents’ – want? Source: Anonymous on IMDB

Our Verdict: A film that makes Michael Bay films look intelligent, didn’t think it was possible? Well here it is. Plot holes so big you can sail a battleship through them (thanks for that Sam *wink*) and acting so wooden that it makes the game it is based on look positively animated. Never boring but, oh so stupid.

It stars Sam Worthington, Liam Neeson, Ralph Fiennes, Rosamund Pike, Édgar Ramírez, Toby Kebbell, Danny Huston and Bill Nighy.

Our Verdict: A vast improvement on the first film with great 3D, spectacular special effects and a huge humour injection. Still no classic, but a fun saturday night popcorn flick.
