Top 5 Films of 2011!

Hollywood had a great year and a horrible year at the same time. These films more than made up for the bad ones and are the cream of the crop of 2011. How many have you seen?

1) Ides of March

Ides of March is a masterpiece of a film. George Clooney’s direction was wonderful, and both Mr. Clooney and Ryan Gosling’s performances were great enough to send chills up and down anyone’s spine. When thinking back on the year, there wasn’t a single movie that did better than Ides of March.

2) The Muppets

The Muppets delivered something to everyone. It was a great movie for children and adults who wanted to relive their childhood. We even saw a hidden Muppets plot that many might not have caught. Jason Segel wanted everyone to see his love for The Muppets and it showed through and through.

3) The Help

The Help was an amazing rendition of the book of the same name. Not only did it show you how crazy white people are, it also let us in to see how African-Americans were treated back then. It would make you laugh, make you cry, and give you hope. It also lets you know that sometimes you don’t want to eat that second slice of chocolate pie.

4) J. Edgar

J. Edgar was a great story chronicling the life of the late J. Edgar Hoover, director of the FBI. Clint Eastwood directed and composed the music for this amazing work of art. The acting was superb and the feel of the time was perfect. It really opened the book on one of the most reserved men in history.

5) Bridesmaids

Bridesmaids was one of the funniest films released in 2011. It could even be called a comedienne showcase/bonanza because of the amazing actresses that took part in what was called the “Hangover for girls.” The movie set out to be funny and ended up being gut-busting and hilarious, while keeping a great plot.

We wish we could add all of our favorites to this list, and it sure was hard to wittle down to just five. What do you think about the list?

New Year's Resolutions From Us to You!

With 2011 coming to a close, there’s a lot we have planned for our readers in the future. We also have a lot planned for ourselves, too. We thought it’d be neat to give everyone a heads-up of things to come and things we want to come. Take a look at Geek's Goals, our New Year’s Resolutions.

We’ve had an interesting year so far and it hasn’t even been a year. Hard to believe, isn’t it? We started Geek Preview as a small blog in the beginning of June; June 8^th, to be exact. Our first post was the Wii U Preview which still continues to get some pretty good traffic and we’re still as excited about its release as you are.

In six small months, five if you don’t count the month we didn’t get any posts through because of school, we’ve accumulated all of you amazing readers! We’ve partnered with a number of companies in order to bring you the reviews, articles, and straight-up entertainment information you want, need, and deserve. We’re almost at 400 Facebook fans and we’re at 120 Twitter followers as the year comes to a close. Not too shabby, eh?

We have lots planned next year, including:

11/22/63: A Novel by Stephen King Review

In case you hadn’t noticed, we’ve updated our humble little blog recently. There are incentives to donate on the right hand side and we can finally include our last forms of entertainment in our redone tabs up top: music and books!

We’ve decided to start off the book portion of Geek Preview with the review of 11/22/63 by Stephen King. We sure did choose one hell of a novel to kick off the new section. Check out the 11/22/63 review after the jump!

The book starts out in the same sense that many of King’s novels begin. We are introduced to the main characters in all of their glory, but they are still shrouded in mystery. Jake Epping unknowingly lets us into his life and takes us on what is sure to be the wildest ride of your life.

We start in the year 2011 when Jake’s friend Al, owner and cook at the local diner, lets Jake in on a huge secret he had discovered: time travel. Jake tests out Al’s secret, still in disbelief, and it works. After tinkering with going back to 1958 multiple times, Jake takes up Al’s offer of going back into the past and saving John F. Kennedy from his assassination. However, the past doesn’t want to be changed and will stop at nothing to ensure it remains the same.

The entire novel, all 697 pages of it, keeps you on your toes. Twists are thrown at you when you least expect them (you never, ever do.) I found myself devouring this novel, turning page after page (or swipe after swipe, as it was an e-book,) and darting my eyes as fast as possible across the page to try to find out what happens next.

After finishing the book, I was left feeling great. Stephen King left no question unanswered while still having me wanting more. I’ll admit, it’s extremely hard to follow up with another novel after 11/22/63, but you will probably want to turn back to page one when you’re done to relive all of those moments again.

The characters that Mr. King created were beautifully crafted to the point that I felt they exist this very moment. Everything felt so real, so… honest. There were times that anyone could connect with protagonist Jake Epping, who had a heart of gold. Some of the choices he had to make made it painful to read, while others nearly brought tears to my eyes.

Let’s not forget the deaths of the major characters, some not as deserving as others. I found myself covering my mouth in awe and feeling betrayed by characters that don’t exist. I hated some and absolutely loved others. I felt like I knew each and every one of these ~~characters~~ people and I enjoyed the company they gave me.

Mr. King created a fantastic world, both past and future. Everything seemed so real. At times, I could feel, smell, see, and taste the world he described. 11/22/63 is the most interactive, involving experience I’ve ever had with a novel in my life.

There were also tons of references to other works by Stephen King, notably It. These came up time and again and made it even more fun to read!

OVERALL GRADE: 10 If there is just one book you read in your life, make it this one. Hell, you could even listen to the audio book if you wanted to. I’d recommend the book in this case so that you can let your mind run free and run with what Stephen King gives you. This is the best book of 2011, hands down.

Announcing: Snapdragon Stadium

I live right outside of New Orleans, the home of what was once the Superdome. It recently got a name change and is now called the Mercedes-Benz Superdome, which I guess means it's supposed to be more high-end. It's too bad I don't live in San Diego, because their Qualcomm Stadium is being renamed to Snapdragon Stadium for 11 days! That's much more awesome than Mercedes-Benz anyday!

Starting December 18th for 11 days, Qualcomm Stadium will be named after Qualcomm's most famous processor chips: Snapdragon Stadium. During this time, the stadium will host a Chargers vs. Ravens game and two college games: the San Diego County Credit Union Poinsetta Bowl on Dec. 21 and the Bridgepoint Education Holiday Bowl on Dec. 28!

I'm excited for the name change because I feel that this could pave the way of bringing in some "geeky" flair to sports. I heard a lot of "what?"s coming from people when they heard about the Snapdragon name change but others knew about the awesome little processors.

Snapdragon processors by Qualcomm are the digital brains inside mobile devices made specifically for smart phones. Many top manufacturers, such as Samsung, Nokia, HTC, and LG, use these processors to get lightning-fast devices. Over 250 devices contain these processors, such as the new HTC Rezound, Samsung Galaxy Tab 8.9, and the LG DoublePlay.

Qualcomm's Snapdragon processors are amazing for mobile gaming and multi-tasking, which is why many of these high-end devices use them. I honestly couldn't imagine using my Galaxy Tab without having a Snapdragon processor. It just wouldn't feel right.

Top 10 Products That Need To Come Back

Doesn't it suck when you get a craving for a food that no longer exists? It's happened to everybody and we get those cravings all the time. Here's the 10 products that need to come back ASAP!

Surge

Surge was a great sugar-filled drink that mostly everyone loved. It was a citrus drink/hybrid energy soda that you would crave for days on end. For now we only have Vault, unless you live in Norway. Norwegians get all the cool things!

French Toast Crunch

Cinnamon Toast Crunch just doesn't cut it when it comes to one of the best cereals ever. It was syrupy and shaped like little toasts. At least we have Waffle Crisp, right?

Oreo O's

Oreo O's didn't do as well as Reese's Puffs. This makes no sense to me because when you think Oreos you also think milk. America decided that they didn't care for Oreo O's so they went the way of our next product.

Doritos 3D

I think that Doritos 3D deserves their own blog post, but that will come a little later. These came in huge bags and I think they were too early for their time. If you had Jalepeno Cheddar Doritos 3D now while watching a 3D movie, you'd be all set!

Cheetos Asteroids

These little balls came in a small container and were totally addicting! I'd eat the Flamin' Hot Asteroids erryday. In fact when I was younger I'm pretty sure I did just that. Seriously.

Black Cherry Vanilla Coca-Cola

I forgot all about this delicious drink until I overheard someone talking about it. How could I forget the greatness that Coca-Cola brought to everyone? It's a shame that they dropped it because Coke with Lime outsold it. I hated Coke with Lime.

Habanero Doritos

Another day, another flavor of Doritos, right? Not really in the case of the Habanero Doritos, which scorched your mouth after one bite. Come to think of it, that might have been the reason they discontinued them. We got to re-live the heat with the 3rd Degree Burn Doritos, which I hoarded while it lasted. I'm seriously drooling right now. Is anyone with me?

Sprite Remix

Sprite Remix was the single best soda I've ever had the pleasure of drinking. Berry Clear was amazing and between that and the Aruba Jam flavors, I could drink Sprite all day long. Why'd they disappear? Why hast thou forsaken me, Sprite?!

Butterfinger BBs

Bart Simpson. Bite-sized Butterfingers. Need I say more?

Pepsi Blue

It was the only type of Pepsi I ever liked, and they had to take it away. What a sad, sad day that was.

Honorable Mention: Capt. Crunch Oops! All Berries

How could you have a list and not put this in there somewhere? 11 is a little awkward for a list, but Oops! All Berries was one of the best cereals of all time.

21 Jump Street Posters and Trailer Revealed

Have you ever heard of the TV show 21 Jump Street starring Johnny Depp? If not, it was a show about undercover cops who specialize in youth crime because they look young and can blend in. The new movie starring Channing Tatum and Jonah Hill follows suit and seems to be a little...dirtier. See why after the jump

First, we have the 21 Jump Street poster below. Just take a look at the tagline: The only thing getting blown tonight is their cover. I personally find this hilarious, but I'm starting to think that maybe they're really dumb cops, which now puts the movie in a position to go either way. Either the characters will be so dumb that the movie turns out stupid or they're just the right amount of stupid that the movie is funny.

Well, Jonah Hill and Channing Tatum are playing the underachieving duo who are sent to a high school to bust a drug ring. I have full confidence in both actors, especially Jonah Hill. If you got to see his performances in Cyrus or Moneyball, you'll know what I'm talking about.

Christmas Food

Christmas is waited for year-round by kids and adults. You know when the time is coming because every company in the world lets you know not even an hour into Thanksgiving (in America.) While many people love the gifts and the spirits, both mentally and drunkenly, some people are in it just for the Christmas food.
Just check Google or Yahoo! Everyone's looking for some great recipes. Everybody is rushing to find a sweet potato casserole, green bean casserole, or prime rib recipe to wow all of the relatives and friends that are sure to be at their party or little get-together.

I prefer the snack foods during Christmas more than anything. Buffalo chicken dip, fudge, and Christmas cookies are usually at the top of our list! After we perfected our kick ass salsa recipe, it's been high up there with the foods we really want to see. It'd be times like this we'd want the Pac-Man cookie cutters you see to the left.

Besides the actual fudge and baked goods, there's tons of candy. It's pretty ridiculous when you sit back and think about all of the food people eat on Christmas. People might eat more on Christmas than Thanksgiving if you count the seemingly infinite snacking that goes on in-between eating. I would name the different Christmas dishes there are out there, but I don't think there's enough time in the world to write or read them. One thing's for sure, though: I'm not big on "figgy pudding." Yeah, you can keep that.

Sour Smog Balls Review: The Best Sour Candy on the Market!

We've all had our fair share of sour candy, whether it's a ridiculously sour challenge of seeing how long you can hold something in your mouth or just something to give you a little "shock" to your snack. There's a new sour candy on the market by Toxic Waste Candy. We've tried their newest product, Smog Balls, and we have a lot to say about them!

Being a very serious, competitive person as a teenager, I would always look for the most extreme of something. Whether it's the hardest video game, spiciest potato chips, or the most sour candy, I was ready and willing to take on the challenge. Anytime I'd search the internet for the most sour candy, Toxic Waste Candy would show up.

I tried multiple kinds of their products: Hard Candies, High Voltage Gum, and Short Circuits Gum. All of these were delicious (and deliciously sour!) Their newest candy, Sour Smog Balls, is what will forever be known around Geek Preview as the best sour candy.

It's no wonder it won Best New Candy!

Sour Smog Balls are small, round fruity balls of crunchy candy that have a sour, chewy center. That sure is a mouthful (pun intended!) It combines what most of us love about candy into one little ball.

What I did first was try each separate flavor. It's almost impossible to eat one at a time. See that picture to the left? It's killing me to look at it and not be eating Sour Smog Balls. In fact, it's safe to say that there is currently no other candy on the market I would rather eat.

The best part is that they can be called a random candy. It's always a surprise as to what you're going to get. One time I bit into a very crunch, hard candy that was super sour and the next Smog Ball was mostly chewy and fruity. It makes eating this candy an adventure that you just have to take!

Overall, we found Sour Smog Balls so good we could not put them down. Each flavor was absolutely delicious and the perfect balance of sweet, then sour, then sweet again. The "sour power" is perfect and lasts just long enough to make you go back for more and more and more! This is everything a candy should be.

Men In Black 3 Trailer Released

It's been a while since we've seen Men In Black or it's sequel, but we're some excited after seeing the trailer for the newest installment in the series, Men In Black 3. If you haven't seen it yet, prepare to be excited, very excited.

First, I'd like to say that the trailer is much better than the two Men in Black 3 posters that were released. Maybe it's just me, but looking at the posters really gives me a headache. I appreciate what Sony put into getting these together, but it's just a sore sight to me. Sure, when you look at it you can see Will Smith or Tommy Lee Jones (or is that Josh Brolin?) but it just really hurts to look for too long. Don't say we didn't warn you:

Sorry about doing that to you. The Men in Black 3 trailer is a hell of a lot better than the posters, though. We're upset that it's taken a decade since the last movie came out, but we're sure it's going to be more than worth it. Men in Black 3 is set to be released in theaters and in glorious 3D on May 25th, 2012. Here's the trailer. Your eyes can thank us later:

Also, is Will Smith starting to look old? This is horrible! Probably kicking too much alien and zombie ass.

Buying The House

Buying my new house was the highlight of my year and I’ve been working tirelessly to turn it into the kind of place that I want to live in. It’s got all the good bonesand structural elements but it needs a lot of work to restore it to its glory days which were apparently back in the 1800s. I love being the owner of an old house but it’s really far outside of town and commuting in has been a much bigger hassle than I would have thought. I love that it’s so great and cozy but there are definitely things I miss about my condo in the city! I got http://www.satelliteinternetbroadband.com/hughesnet/New-Hampshire/D/Dunbarton/ internet so I could stay connected to the office while I was out here and that’s helped and at least my cell phone gets service- that would be really hard to deal with otherwise. Anyway, I love that I’ve got a new project and plan and it won’t be long before I get the place spruced up and ready to show off!

Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer Album Review: Album of the Year?

According to MTV, the nomations for 2011 Album of the Year came in on November 30. However, we feel that one album in particular should be Album of the Year, and for a number of reasons. That album is Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer.

Let me start off by telling you about the sound of the entire album. It sounds like love. The album sounds as if it's made by his soul and you can tell the emotions in each song. Without holding back any more, here's the breakdown of Cee Lo Green's The Lady Killer.

Starting with the Lady Killer Theme (Intro), there's a sort of Spy movie theme that comes from the song. It really sets the chivalry-esque theme for the rest of the album. In fact, you could say that he is attempting to bring back the older days (approximately 1920-ish) when men would actually treat a lady right.

We get brought into the wonderous sounds of Bright Lights Bigger City next, which is one of the catchiest tracks ever made. The track makes you feel great, like you're on to bigger and better things, which Cee Lo clearly is.

The third track, Fuck You, is the most popular of the entire album. It isn't necessarily the best track he has, but it certainly is the catchiest. We'll tell you all about the song in the most proper way possible:

Fuck You is a song about a gentleman who tries as hard as possible to fulfull a lady's materialistic ways. However, he cannot and sees her out with another man who has much more to offer. This angers him to the point of shouting out his catch phrase.

What a beautiful song.

Following this comes Wildflower, a beautiful love song. I'm pretty sure this is about him "doing the dirty" with his wonderful "wildflower." However, he still wants her to know she's beautiful. His girl is a wonderful wildflower and she needs to know this.

After this is Bodies, which is a very sensual ballad about chivalry. Following this comes Please, a song about finding yourself and chasing after what you want. If you don't keep trying to achieve what you may think is not achievable, you won't be able to look at yourself.

Satisfied is another brilliant track showing that Cee Lo Green really is a "lady killer." All he wants to do is satisfy his girl. The least he can do is try, after all. I Want You follows this by telling the girl that all he wants is her. He doesn't want the night life anymore, he just wants her and nothing else. How beautiful.

Cry Baby continues by telling his girl that he doesn't want her to cry. Ever. He's a fool for this girl. He wrote a song about it, too. Fool for You is him telling his girl that he's a fool for her in every way. He loves her so much it's crazy.

Things start to go a little downhill for Cee Lo, but the songs are still upbeat. It's hard to believe it when you see how much he cares for this girl. She regrets him a bit and she's out with another man. He thinks about her though, and he wants her to know that It's OK to say that she still loves him. After all, she is a legendary woman, someone you can't replace.

Things get a little slow after this. It gets a little Old-Fashioned, and he tells the girl that his love is right on time and timeless. He will always be there, just like a man should. I feel as if Cee Lo's heart has been crushed and he doesn't deserve this. Poor Cee Lo!

We then get the Lady Killer Theme (Outro) which has lots of guitar shredding. Like, really amazing shredding. It's crazy.

Overall, I feel this is one of the best albums ever made. The story is told amazingly and beautifully. I commend Cee Lo Green on this amazing work of art. This is one album you will listen to and never want to listen to anything else. Seriously, it's that great.

OVERALL GRADE: 10/10 Yes, it's perfect.

Sasha Baren Cohen's The Dictator Trailer Released

Have any of you seen the trailer for The Dictator movie with Sasha Baron Cohen? Well, if you haven't, consider yourself lucky. It isn't looking all too great.

Sasha Baron Cohen did great as Borat and in Da Ali G Show. Those were some of his funniest characters he's played. When he followed it up with that "movie" Bruno, it all started to get a little depressing. Seriously, it's as if he's crying and pleading for us to watch him now.

I'm thinking this is supposed to be a take on the great Charlie Chaplin film of the same name. It will probably be raunchier, more violent, and a lot more dumbed-down.

In any case, The Dictator movie trailer has been released and I thought I should share it with you. I'd like to have a moment of silence and simply not say anything else for the remainder of this article. This is out of respect for the film industry. May it rest in peace.

We've got tons of great movies heading our way next year: The Bourne Legacy, The Dark Knight Rises, The Amazing Spider-Man, and so many more that I can't even list them all here. Many of them were filmed right where we're based out of: New Orleans. Especially one in particular, Abraham Lincoln Vampire Hunter. Check out the posters after the jump.

IGN got a hold on the first lenticular poster for the movie because they suck all of the new information through a vaccuum and then shove that down your throat. That's a lot of news, eh?

Anywho, here's the Abraham Licoln Vampire Hunter movie poster for you to check out. It's awesome because it's lenticular, meaning that it will change how it looks when you pass by. It's like those hologram things you'd get in your kids' meal when you were younger, only more badass.

I have to say these are for IGN because if not, they'll destroy me.

The movie, based off the book of the same name, was filmed right out in New Orleans and I passed the set multiple times a week. They filmed all over Louisiana, right out in the swamps sometimes. It'll definitely give the movie a great edge and I can't wait to see the finished product.

I'd like to say that I'm super excited about this movie. It's got everything I've ever wanted in a movie and then some. However, all I've ever wanted in a movie was a legit vampire (not that sparkling bull) and Abraham Lincoln, so I'm not hard to please. The movie is set to release on June 22, 2012.

Ben & Jerry's Schweddy Balls Review: We Can't Resist Em'

Remember our pun-laden story about how ridiculous it is that people want Ben and Jerry's Schweddy Balls banned from stores? Ben and Jerry's is known for their crazy pun-filled product names and their original combinations of flavors. So how does their newest, limited batch flavor Schweddy Balls stand?

I have lots of favorite Ben and Jerry's flavors. They've got Chunky Monkey, which is like a banana split in a carton. There's Clusterfluff, which an amazing Peanut Butter-Palooza. Then they have AmeriCone Dream, my previous number one. This all changed when I tried their newest flavor, Schweddy Balls, for our review.

The first thing we noticed is the awesome carton with the Ben & Jerry's cow wearing the Saturday Night Live sweatshirt, with headphones that Alec Baldwin's character Paul Schweddy wore. At this point, I couldn't wait any longer. I had to open the package.

Inside was a delicious mix of malt balls and rum balls, sporadically placed within Vanilla Ice Cream. The first bite I had put me on Cloud 9. I was excited to eat it and it then exceeded my expectations.

After putting the spoon in my mouth I could taste how amazing the malt balls were. I personally love malted milk balls, so it was a home run as far as I was concerned. I then got to the rum balls, which had a really great taste, but it wasn't as good as the malt balls. The vanilla ice cream tasted like it had a bit of spice to it, thought I couldn't exactly tell what that extra flavor was.

OVERALL GRADE: 9.8 That would have been a perfect 10, but those rum balls weren't as great as they could have been.

Call of Duty: Social Network

Everyone has played Call of Duty. Yes, even you hardcore Battlefield fans know you have played it at least once. If not, you certainly can't hate on it. The Call of Duty series is arguably the most well-known first-person shooter out there. With millions of individual hours clocked in on a weekly basis, people wonder what draws everyone into the Call of Duty experience. We have an idea: Call of Duty is a Social Network.
Begginers: For those of you not well-versed in the Call of Duty lingo, prestigin' is the act of going up levels of Prestige in the Multiplayer experience, which is an entire game in itself. In order to prestige, one needs to get up to level 80 (in Modern Warfare 3) and then trade everything they've worked for in just to rank up again in the hopes of becoming Prestige level 10. It's almost like working at a job long enough to be the CEO. Well, not really, but almost.

That's a pretty solid way of retaining replay value if I ever saw it. People continually come back to Call of Duty and "rank up" in hopes of becoming the best. You can even buy membership to Call of Duty Elite to help out more and even earn real-life prizes. You can talk to others and share your achievements and experiences with people you probably don't know. Isn't this a bit like a social network?

The Xbox 360 has achievements, the Playstation 3 has trophies, and inside Call of Duty there are challenges to complete and upgrades to earn. If you've ever played multiplayer, you remember the feeling when you kill someone online and pick up their golden gun. I remember wondering just how in the hell they even got something like that and then declared that I was going to get one for myself. This is no easy task, however.

Mastering every single little aspect of a tiny part of a game is no easy task, but when you do it you can show off. That's where the key part of the Call of Duty social network comes in: you want to show off. That's not a bad thing, though. Everyone wants to show that they have something better. Something inside of us yells out at everyone, "LOOK WHAT I GOT!!" In this case, it could be a gold SCAR-L that you're blasting away with. Then, when they die by that golden gun, they can see your Title and Emblem, showing off your achievements even more and thrusting it in their face.

It's the same way as Facebook. If you get a new girlfriend or boyfriend, you know you'll change your Facebook status. Got a new job? Changing employment status. In a way, you could assign each of these a prestige medal and see just why people continually strive to be the best. They want to show it off.

Prestigin' is in and of itself an entire new way of proving you're the best. This doesn't happen just in Call of Duty, the in-game medals you receive for prestigin' up a level go with the real-life medals that soldiers get for different achievements, such as helping liberate Kuwait. I bet any soldier with that medal talks about it non-stop. It's different to earn them in real life for reasons I assume don't need to be pointed out, but achievements in-game boost a players morale and ego.

The Hidden Plot of "The Muppets" Movie

Did you get a chance to see The Muppets movie when it was in theaters? If you didn't you sure missed one hell of a movie. It's pretty much flawless. We're serious. Not only did it bring back everything we've ever loved about the Muppets, Jason Segel added his own special flair to it! It was a perfect family movie and had something for everyone. But what is the hidden plot of The Muppets? NOTE: There may be some spoilers ahead.

In The Muppets, we're told the Story of Gary and Walter, who work together in order to get their childhood favorite television show The Muppet Show back on air. However, their plans are stopped short by an evil oil tycoon named Tex Richman, who is set on destroying Muppet Studios to drill for oil! Gasp! Perhaps there's more to the story than this, though. We just have to drill a little deeper.

As you can see in The Muppets movie poster to the left, Jason Segel character, Gary, has the exact same clothes on as Walter, his best friend. Is this a coincidence? No, it definitely isn't. They aren't just best friends, they are the same person.

I know you're wondering, "How is that? Walter is a Muppet and Gary is a man." As we see in the beginning of the movie, Gary gets older and Walter remains, well, Walter. Walter is simply a part of Gary. He's a part of his mind that will forever stay the same and will continue to keep that part of Gary alive.

Walter is in love with the Muppets. It's all he lives and breathes and Walter will stop at nothing to achieve his goal of meeting them and hopefully becoming a Muppet. Multiple times throughout the movie, Gary's girlfriend Mary keeps mentioning that he should stop spending so much time with Walter. Maybe Mary does not like this side of Gary, the Muppet-crazed part of him that shows so much.

When Gary tells Mary that Walter is coming to Los Angeles with them, Mary is a little hesitant. Why should Gary bring his friend when it was "them" time? Gary defends it, saying that Walter has always wanted to see the Muppets and won't get in the way. This proves false, though, as Gary and Walter go around the globe to gather the Muppets and save their studios. Perhaps she's saying that Gary shouldn't get all worked up about the Muppets when they get to Los Angeles and just spend time with her?

This goes on throughout the movie until a small song, where Gary tries to figure out if he's a man or if he's a Muppet. Gary sings the same song, only is he a Muppet or is he a man? Gary is battling it out within himself, not knowing whether or not to let the Muppets go and remain a part of his childhood, or continue living life as one of them.

Finally, they save the Muppets. This isn't much of a spoiler as it is a family movie. Walter finally becomes a Muppet and Gary and Mary stay together. Gary lets Walter "stay with them." He has finally let go of his past and settled that part of him. He has let his Muppet self stay a Muppet and kept that separate from his life by helping them out.

The actual moral of the movie is that sometimes you have to let your past go and set it free. You can still keep a part of your childhood within yourself, but you can't let it control you. Are you a man or are you a Muppet?

Please Stop the (Christmas) Music!

I'm a normal human being, right? I thought so, up until recently. In case you couldn't tell, I'm pretty into every single piece of entertainment and art out there. Movies, television, video games, books... you name it and I respect (most of) it! Music is one of those outstanding art forms that just carries us on through good times and bad times and is one of my all-time favorite art forms. Except for Christmas music, that is.

Go ahead, call me a Scrooge. I'm not against Christmas; I love it. It's actually the most wonderful time of the year. Almost everyone is in a good mood and ready to share that mood! Presents, family, friends, food, and all sorts of awesome things happen this time of year. I'd add weather, but in Louisiana it's still hitting the 80s (what gives, yo!?) The Christmas music, however, is a totally different story, and one I'd love to share with you.

I got into my car at about 6:40 on Black Friday. I have work at 7 AM and was more than ready to work (I knew we'd be dead slow, we aren't a retail store.) After turning my key, instead of hearing either Boston's More Than A Feeling or Lady Gaga's Poker Face, which is usually a morning song blared by my "Generation X" station, I got to hear the sounds of Frosty the Snowman. Are you serious?!

Why would anyone want to listen to Frosty the Snowman on Black Friday? Maybe parents are dragging their kids along to the store for some fun ~~fighting~~ shopping. Whatever it is, I found it irritating beyond belief and unbearable to listen to. The last thing I want rammed into my head is a corncob pipe and button nose on my way to work at 6:40 in the morning.

Don't get me wrong, I wasn't always like this. I used to love Christmas music: Run, Run, Rudolph, Happy Christmas (War is Over,) and let's not forget the classic Weird Al song from my childhood The Night Santa Went Crazy. I would listen to them even when it wasn't Christmas. Then why, all of a sudden, am I suddenly not in the mood to hear these songs anymore?

For me, it just gets annoying. There's not a lot of people that watch Christmas movies year-round. I'm sure someone out there is getting some really strange looks about watching Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer in May. Holiday movies are usually saved for that holiday. The same is for Christmas music. Let's be honest: do you really want to rock around the Christmas tree in August? I'd say no.

J. Edgar Movie Review: Top Secret is Worth Sharing

Clint Eastwood is known for his amazing works of art: writing, acting, directing, and even whistling. With such classic films such as Mystic River, Dirty Harry, and Gran Torino under his belt, it's truly wonderful to see him continue his beautiful storytelling. J. Edgar is another one of his beautiful stories.

I wasn't sure what to expect going in at first. I know the movie is directed by Clint Eastwood, and I highly respect him and his work. It's interesting to see him working with the screenplay, which is written by Dustin Lance Black (the writer of Milk.) Seeing as it is based off of the true story of J. Edgar Hoover, I was more than ready to see a darkly-lit, soft-spoken movie with bigger-than-life characters. J. Edgar contains all of this and then some.

The first thing you notice is how brilliantly the story flows, even when jumping through time. One minute, we have a young J. Edgar, the next cut and he's old again. It doesn't confuse you or throw you off and keeps you hanging on to the story by creating this new sense of diversity that I haven't seen in a movie in some time. The editing is superb.

All of the shots in the movie are beautiful, but even that's an understatement. The hard lighting really helps bring out the way they crafted Leonardo DiCaprio to look as J. Edgar, which he does wonderfully might I add. Add to this the great music that is in the background and you've got a winning deal. Oh, and Clint Eastwood also does the music. How awesome is that?

The make-up looks great on most of the characters. J. Edgar looks just as he does in pictures, but one character was off. Armie Hammer plays Clyde Tolson, who is the best friend / companion for J. Edgar. Clyde Tolson's older character looks as if he has a mask on. The make-up was very weird to look at, and didn't seem that believable. There were little wrinkles and something was just off about it. Every other character more than made up for this, though, especially Leonardo DiCaprio as J. Edgar Hoover.

The acting was really great and I see no reason to complain. After all, there are really talented actors and actresses all under the eye of Clint Eastwood. Everyone gave a very solid, convincing performance.

In all, the movie was really great. It did push some time limits, coming in at almost two hours, but it is worth every second. Solid performances and a beautiful story make J. Edgar more of an experience than a movie.

Here's our breakdown. We wouldn't want to file this one away:

Artistic Style / Feel: It's very darkly-lit but keeps true to the time period. It almost seems like it is a "now" story, even though being put in the 1930s. The make-up could have used a little work on Armie Hammer's character, Clyde Tolson.

Soundtrack: Inspirational and story-telling in itself. Great compositions from Clint Eastwood; the soundtrack really helps empower the story.

Acting: The characters were larger than life and still felt true. Jaw-droppingly accurate acting on everyone's part.

Direction: Clint Eastwood keeps the movie going great. He has an amazing feel for stories.

Replay Value: Moderately High. While I enjoyed the movie, it does run rather long. It's still a great film and will be watched again.

Overall Quality / Score: 9.6 Almost everything about the film was inspiring and amazing. The make-up really threw me off, especially for such an important character. The run time for the film is also a little long.
