Fix: iPhone Not Detected In iTunes In Windows 10

Step 1: Make sure that you have installed the latest version of iTunes on your Windows 10 PC.

Step 2: Connect your iPhone, iPod or iPad to your PC using the official cable, tap Trust when you see the following message on your device.

Step 3: Open Control Panel

Step 4: Devices and Printers.
Your iPhone, iPod or iPad should now appear under Unspecified section.

Step 5: Right-click on your iPhone, iPod or iPad icon and then click Properties to open iPhone, iPod or iPad Properties dialog.

Step 6: Switch to the Hardware tab. Under Device Functions section, select your iPhone, iPod or iPad, and then click Properties button to open Apple iPhone/iPod/iPad properties.

Step 7: Now, Under the General tab, click the button labelled Change settings.

Step 8: Now Switch to Driver tab and then click Update Driver button to open Update Driver Software wizard.

Step 9: Click the second option labelled Browse my computer for driver software and then navigate to C:\Program Files\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers folder. And if you’re on Windows 10 x64, you need to browse to C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Mobile Device Support\Drivers.

Step 10: Finally, click Next button and once the drive is updated, click Close button to close the wizard.

Open iTunes now. Your iPhone, iPad or iPod should now be detected by iTunes in Windows 10.

Office 2013 is now available on TechNet/MSDN

Microsoft has posted the RTM build of Office 2013 and Exchange to TechNet and MSDN for those of you who are lucky enough to have access to those platforms. These two new products bring with them a host of new features and also a flatter look but are still far from the "modern" them that Microsoft has been deploying across all of its products.

People who purchase the current retail version of Office 2010 starting on October 19 will be able to get a free copy of Office 2013 when it ships sometime in the first quarter of 2013. As previously announced, people who purchase a new Windows RT-based hardware product on or after October 26th will get the final version of Office 2013 too.

Microsoft has also said that subscribers to Office 365 Enterprise will get some "new capabilities" in an upcoming update that will be made available in November.

Skype for Desktop 6.0 focuses on improving integration with existing Microsoft Messenger and Facebook services.

New features include the ability to log in using either Microsoft or Facebook accounts before linking all three together. One reason for doing so is that Skype now supports IM conversations with Messenger contacts as well as other Skype and Facebook friends.

Google Pays $3,133.7 To Researcher For Squishing Bug In Chrome

It seems that Google is very keen to squish bugs in its Chrome browser; so much so in fact that, according to Infoworld, it has paid one researcher $3,133.7 for finding a single bug. Researcher Sergey Glazunov discovered a flaw related to "stale pointer in speech handling." This apparently affects the code in the application which handles allocation of RAM. Google's Chrome programming manager, Jason Kersey, had this to say:

"We’re delighted to offer our first “elite” $3,133 Chromium Security Reward to Sergey Glazunov. Critical bugs are harder to come by in Chrome, but Sergey has done it. Sergey also collects a $1337 reward and several other rewards at the same time, so congratulations Sergey!"

This is the first time that a critical bug has been discovered since Google launched the scheme in December of last year. According to Infoworld, all in all, Google paid Glazunov $7,470, and a total of $14,000 to various researchers including Glazunov.

The browser currently has a 10% share of the market in terms of users, so security is a key priority for Google, as attacks and malware become ever more sophisticated. Google plans to continue the program for the foreseeable future as it provides a key incentive for independent researchers such as Glazunov.

Blackberry begins blocking porn websites in Indonesia

Blackberry has been forced to start blocking pornographic websites in Indonesia or possibly see its lucrative trading license retracted. The Canadian company was given until this Friday to comply. Indonesian users who try to access sites such as www.penthouse.com will now be welcomed by a message stating: "The site you are trying to open is not accessible through this network."

"Praise to God, RIM has complied with Indonesia's laws and regulations," Indonesia Communications Minister Tifatul Sembiring said on Twitter, "Pornography has begun to be blocked. Please go ahead with doing business as long as laws are complied with." Sembiring, a conservative Muslim, is no stranger to a war on pornography. Recently, he has been actively campaigning for its total removal from the internet.

RIM has confirmed they are blocking certain types of websites and issued a statement saying "RIM is now in the process of implementing an Internet content filtering solution that addresses our carrier partners." According to research tech firm Gartner, the Indonesian market is one of RIM's largest with over two million units sold out of the estimated 12 million total.

The company does not filter content in any other market in the world and the recent news from Indonesia has started a surge of panic in the blogging cosmos over concerns about what other companies might do in the future.

Trapster hacked; 10 million users might be at risk

The popular online speed trap tracker, Trapster, has issued an email to its 10 million registered members, citing that their passwords may have been hacked. The mobile application is available on a number of smartphones, including the iPhone, a number of BlackBerry and Android headsets and other smartphones.

The website has over 10 million mobile users, who all might be at risk of having their password stolen. The company issued an email stating that users should change their passwords. Although the company still doesn't know exactly how much data was compromised, they can only assume the hacker acquired all of the online mobile data, which includes usernames, emails and passwords.

How do I know if my password was hacked?
We believe it's best to be cautious. So, if you've registered your account with Trapster, then it's best to assume that your e-mail address and password were included among the compromised data.

With over 10 million email accounts and passwords stolen, it won't take long for a hacker, or team of hackers, to decrypt the encrypted passwords. It's recommended that users change their password on Trapster and any other account on the Internet they share the same password with.

This database leak comes just a month after Gawker had their database, source code and other private information stolen. A list of usernames and unencrypted passwords were later posted on the Internet.

Google announced today that as part of a shakeup in senior management, Eric Schmidt is stepping down from his role as Chief Executive Officer. Schmidt, who has been in the role for the last 10 years, will be replaced by another of Google's co-founders, Larry Page. He will also lead product development and technology strategy. The current CEO however isn't leaving the company and will stay on in an advisory capacity as the Executive Chairman. On the change Mr. Schmidt had the following to say:

We’ve been talking about how best to simplify our management structure and speed up decision making for a long time. By clarifying our individual roles we’ll create clearer responsibility and accountability at the top of the company. In my clear opinion, Larry is ready to lead and I’m excited about working with both him and Sergey for a long time to come.

Google's other co-founder Sergey Brin has decided as part of this shakeup that he will devote his time and energy toward strategic projects, and more specifically new products.

Mr. Page commented on his promotion to CEO saying:

Eric has clearly done an outstanding job leading Google for the last decade. The results speak for themselves. There is no other CEO in the world that could have kept such headstrong founders so deeply involved and still run the business so brilliantly. Eric is a tremendous leader and I have learned innumerable lessons from him. His advice and efforts will be invaluable to me as I start in this new role. Google still has such incredible opportunity–we are only at the beginning and I can’t wait to get started.

The changeover however will not be immediate, and will instead take place April 4th.

Microsoft support scam continues to plague Australians

Australians continue to be contacted by scammers over the phone promoting themselves as official Microsoft support representatives and offering to fix their computer troubles.

The scam, which preys on the notion that most households have a computer running Windows, first began almost two years ago, and sees someone ring an Australian's home phone number claiming to be from Microsoft support and mentioning that a virus or problem has been discovered with their computer. The scammers then ask the person for remote access to their computer, assuring them the process is "completely safe" and that they'll do their best to fix the problem.

A short time later, after exploiting the computer and pretending to fix the problem which didn't exist in the first place, the scammers then ask the person to pay for the service with many Australians falling victim and handing the scammers their credit card details for payment.

According to the Sydney Morning Herald, "thousands" of Australians have been targeted by the scam which in recent months appears to have resurfaced after widespread publicity raised awareness of the scam late last year. In December, Microsoft Australia told the paper the company was receiving between 2 and 50 complaints per day about the scam, but remains powerless to act against it.

"There's a number of different organisations doing this and they're changing their names almost constantly - we hear new names every week," Stuart Strathdee, Microsoft Australia's chief security advisor told the Sydney Morning Herald in December.

Australian authorities remain powerless to act against the scammers, who are based overseas and difficult to track down. Instead, they're urging Australians to hang up on the scammers and not allow them access to their personal computer.

Steve Jobs is again taking a Medical Leave

In a memo released today, and spotted by TechCrunch, Steve Jobs has announced to his employees that he will be taking a leave of absence due to medical reasons. In his absence, Tim Cook will take the reigns at Apple once more, having previously lead the company in 2009 during Steve's battle with liver problems.

During his absence, Steve Jobs will continue his position as CEO, and plans to remain involved in major strategic decisions for the company.

It is unclear at this time what health problems he faces, but in the past he has battled pancreatic cancer, and liver failure, and returned to continue driving Apple's growth in the industry.

The memo sent to all Apple employees reads:

Team,
At my request, the board of directors has granted me a medical leave of absence so I can focus on my health. I will continue as CEO and be involved in major strategic decisions for the company.
I have asked Tim Cook to be responsible for all of Apple’s day to day operations. I have great confidence that Tim and the rest of the executive management team will do a terrific job executing the exciting plans we have in place for 2011.
I love Apple so much and hope to be back as soon as I can. In the meantime, my family and I would deeply appreciate respect for our privacy.
