Maemo announced Mozilla browser for Nokia tablets

Maemo, an open source development platform for Nokia Internet Tablets and other Linux-based devices, have released a development version of a new browser engine based on Mozilla Technologies. This new browser works on Nokia N800 with the latest Internet Tablet OS 2007. I think everyone should try it out and I think this is so cool. The browser is free to download, secure and functional.

Sparky: Alexa Toolbar for Firefox

Alexa had finally released their long awaited toolbar for Firefox, call Sparky, and it is one way to increase your blog or site's traffic ranking. Before this Alexa only released their toolbar for IE version only and I've tried it using it on IE. All that I can say is I'm disappointed with the IE version and I want to use it on my Firefox. So I've found another extensions made by Quirk eMarketing Services called SearchStatus. It displays your page rank and alexa ranking on the bottom of your Firefox.

Now that Firefox has come up with Sparky, we can see any site or blog's ranking at the bottom of the Firefox complete with graphical and ranking status. Isn't that cool? Below are Sparky features:

Firefox 2.0.0.5 released!

This week is another release of the new version of Firefox. I'm so excited about it as it is much closer to version 3.0 and a lot of pre-release available for testing. I've tried it but I would suggest that you stick to the current version for now. The pre-release version is not that quite good enough for day-to-day basis.

AllPeers Reaches Agreement to Offer Mozilla Firefox with AllPeers Bundle

AllPeers has reached an agreement with the Mozilla Foundation to allow a version of Mozilla Firefox with the AllPeers extension pre-installed to be offered for download.

Originally launched eight months ago, AllPeers lets users share files with their friends and families from within Firefox. Designed to be easy to use with its "Drag-and-Share" operation, AllPeers makes use of peer-to-peer technology (the extension features a custom implementation of the BitTorrent protocol) and employs encryption to ensure privacy and security. The AllPeers site has a Flash tour of AllPeers, which provides more information about how it works.

According to AllPeers CEO and co-founder Cedric Maloux, "Approximately 10% of new AllPeers users download Firefox in order to install our application." As AllPeers has been downloaded over 350,000 times since its launch, this suggests that up to 35,000 people may have downloaded Firefox mainly to use AllPeers (though this figure is probably lower due to upgrades from existing AllPeers users). By making it easier for new AllPeers users to get started and pushing Firefox to users who might not otherwise download it, the Firefox with AllPeers bundle should be a win for both sides.

Today also sees the launch of a new release of the AllPeers extension. Version 0.60 includes a Share by Email feature, making it possible to share files with users who do not already have AllPeers installed. It also introduces an Always On service, which allows users to upload (encrypted) files to a server so that they can be downloaded even if the sharing user is offline. Peer Pressure, the AllPeers weblog, has a post with more details about AllPeers 0.60.

Christopher Beard from the Mozilla Corporation approves of the Firefox with AllPeers bundle. "AllPeers is extending Firefox in meaningful ways for our users by delivering integrated file-sharing capabilities," he said. "Their release of Firefox with AllPeers demonstrates the virtuous cycle enabled by the Firefox platform: users and developers both benefit from the open architecture of our add-ons ecosystem."

This is not the first time that the Mozilla Foundation has allowed a third-party to offer downloads of Firefox bundled with an extension. The most famous example is probably the deal with Google that allows the search giant to offer Firefox with the Google Toolbar included to its users. This bundle has become widely promoted across the Web due to Google paying bounties to AdSense publishers who persuade users to download Firefox with the Google Toolbar.

As with the previous deals, the primary version of Firefox promoted on the mozilla.com site will continue to not include any extensions or other bundled software. Currently, Firefox with AllPeers is only available from the AllPeers site.

My favorite toolbar for Firefox

There are tons of toolbars available now but it is depends on what kind of toolbar that you need. Some of the popular toolbar that I know of is mainly from the major search engine like Google, Yahoo! and MSN. This kind of toolbar really makes it easier for you to search without having to go to their homepages. Just by enter your particular search on the toolbar and hit enter. That's all and it is easy. But too many toolbar will make your browser look like a mess and annoying too. I suggest that you just need to use one or two toolbar only for your purposes only. These are the toolbar that I really like:

Google toolbar of course, hehe I love to Google everything hehe
StumbleUpon, stumble each blog or site that you stumbled upon. Free registration is required
Facebook toolbar, because I'm not going to left out on the most increasing Social Networking site and a competitor of Myspace :)

Firefox Alternative?

Well Firefox have become a phenomenon and this shows that IE will have to come up with something in order to make it more secure and reliable. There are other browsers that is based on Firefox which makes this browser competition much healthier than ever. These browsers I've downloaded and tested briefly. Some of them I really like it, some of them don't. But all of them can use the existing Firefox extensions and some of them can't use at all. So here's the list of other browsers that is based on Firefox:

Netscape - an choose either the whole package or just browser

Speed up your Firefox

If you want to speed up your Firefox and don't want to edit using the normal about:config style, just download Firetune which is a great piece of software who wants easy tweaking with a lot of options given. The first option given is for you to choose the speed of your computer and your internet connection speed. Other optimizations including enable some performance tweaks common to all configurations and enable caching of objects served over a secure connection (SSL). But before any tweaking involved, please create a backup of configuration. You can do it by click on the top button of it.

Alternatively, there's a Firefox extensions called FasterFox. From their website the features are:

Prefetch Links
Dynamic speed increases can be obtained with Fasterfox's unique prefetching mechanism, which recycles idle bandwidth by silently loading and caching all of the links on the page you are browsing.
Tweak Network
Fasterfox allows you to tweak many network and rendering settings such as simultaneous connections, pipelining, cache, DNS cache, and initial paint delay.
Page Load Timer
A millisecond accurate page load timer tests the effectiveness of your settings.
Block Popups
A popup blocker for popups initiated by Flash plug-ins is also included.
Locales included for Chinese, Czech, Dutch, English, Finnish, French, Frisian, German, Hebrew, Hungarian, Italian, Japanese, Korean, Lithuanian, Polish, Portuguese, Russian, Slovak, Slovenian, Spanish, Swedish, Turkish and Ukrainian.

After you've installed it, the options lets you choose default options, corteous, optimized, turbo charged, or custom options. I've installed both of them and works great for me. Before this my Firefox seems so slow and now I don't have to worry about it anymore.

This is a great tools that a lot of Firefox users talked about. Can Firefox download torrent within the browser? Well you can do now with the help of FoxTorrent, a Firefox extensions that allow user to download torrent within the browser itself with no hassle and no configuration needed. It's so simple to use it. Just install the extensions and find a torrent file on a torrent site. Then a prompt will ask you to download using a default torrent client which is FoxTorrent and that's all. It will download the torrent using Firefox in the background even if you have close Firefox. But there's the downside of it, this extension is still new so there always had a problem here and there. Like it won't accept a certain tracker or sometimes the RedSwoosh client connection is lost and that will make our torrent activities to a halt. Anyway, for now I'll stick to uTorrent and maybe after some time FoxTorrent will be much better.

BitTorrent Firefox Plugin

This is a torrent plugin for Firefox which allows user to download torrent as easy as downloading file a file over a HTTP or FTP connection. Though it is still in development, I hope this will be a major plus for all torrent freak like me to use Firefox as a torrent client. Just like Opera did in their new 9.2 version. It's gonna be awesome. ;)

Read your feed using Sage

I have been tested this for such a long time and I really like this tool as my lightweight feed reader for Firefox. You can subscribe, search and managed feed using Sage. If any particular blog or website that you can't find any feeds, Sage will find it for you by clicking the search icon. If there's any feed available, Sage will list it. Plus you can import or export OPML files into Sage. Isn't that cool. ;)

There are several ways to access Sage in Firefox:

Menu selection, Tools -> Sage
Menu selection, View -> Sidebar -> Sage
Keyboard shortcut, Alt-Z
Toolbar button, View -> Toolbars -> Customize, drag the Sage icon to the toolbar (already in the toolbar as default)

Netscape 8.1.3 has been released

Netscape browser, which based on Firefox, has released its 8.1.3 version with its security updates. I have to say that Netscape browser is pack with security features and may look like a firewall in a browser ;) . Isn't that cool? It has its own spyware protection, ID theft protection, verified any sites with its Trusted Partners.

Its tab browsing is similar like Firefox but you can configure to suits your need like open a tab with a blank page or a home page, open a tab besides an active tab etc. Password handling also complete with its configuration, passcard as it is called, user can save its password for any sites that they want. Like registering to a website and save it as you want with its name so that you can remember if you lost it. But this is not recommended for shared computers like in a cyber cafe. Plus its protection against phishing sites is impressive too. I've tested it while I'm using Myspace which have tons of phishing sites scattered all over any user's Myspace profiles and Netscape warns me if I've accidentally clicked at these sites.

Well if you get used to Firefox, I think you have no problem with Netscape. ;)

I've given up and feel discouraged to continue posting about one of my favorite browser, Mozilla Firefox. Now, Geek Who Loves Firefox that's me back from popular demand. Hehe. I'll be keep up with you guys with tips and tricks, addons, and news about Mozilla product like Mozilla Firefox, Thunderbird and other Mozilla projects. So thanks for the comments on my old post. I really really appreciate it. :)
