Geekcorps volunteer Adrian Woodhead has become the "Open Source Guy" on iCommons.org. He, along with an Open Source colleague, will provide regular commentary on all things Open Source, beginning with this month's posting entitled "Why did you do it? Why did you give that thing away?" in which he and his partner in crime list the reasons why people contribute to open source software projects.

Geekcorps Director Wayan Vota will be one of three speakers featured at the ICT@Grassroots Panel today at the Peace Corps headquarters in Washington D.C. The purpose of the event is to discuss a variety of projects and programs aimed specifically at reducing the costs of access to computers and communications technologies for clients in developing countries. Mr. Vota will discuss Geekcorps' activities in providing low-cost computing solutions for developing countries and will specifically highlight Geekcorps activities in Mali.

moulin, the Geekcorps answer to distributing the Wikipedia offline, is a nominee in TechSoup's NetSquared Project Innovation Fund Award, which seeks twenty innovative projects that utilize social web technology to create societal impact. The top twenty vote getters will receive an all-expense paid trip to the NetSquared Conference in San Jose, CA May 29-30, 2007, and have a chance to win cash and other resources from the NetSquared Innovation Fund. In Volunteer For Prosperity's 2006 Annual Report, Geekcorps volunteer Lado Kenyi, a research scholar at the University of Maryland at College Park, is featured (see page 14 of the annual report). Lado discovered a volunteer opportunity in his country of origin through IESC Geekcorps’ Sudanese North American Diaspora Database, or SNADD.
