<p>Una definizione che calza a pennello nel caso dei tanto osannati guru del Web 2.0, che solo oggi (vedi <a href="http://twitter.com/leolaporte/statuses/4967587349" target="_blank">Leo Laporte</a>, giusto per citarne uno) si affrettano a decretare in coro il declino di <a href="http://friendfeed.com/" target="_blank">FriendFeed</a>. A leggere l&#8217;ultimo post di chiara matrice <em>logorroico/auto-assolutrice con doppio avvitamento carpiato</em> di Scoble (<a href="http://scobleizer.posterous.com/the-second-life-of-friendfeed" target="_blank">The Second Life of FriendFeed?</a>) non mi viene che da sorridere e pensare a quanto avesse fottutamente ragione Nassim Nicholas Taleb.</p>

<p>Quando si ricevono decine e decine di mail al giorno, molto spesso in risposta a mail precedenti, in un continuo rimpallarsi di allegati, riferimenti, citazioni e contenuti duplicati, si realizza che quelli che dovrebbero essere &#8220;moderni software di gestione delle mail&#8221; offrono un approccio all&#8217;organizzazione dei messaggi tanto lineare quanto poco evoluto. E te ne rendi conto specialmente quando ti trovi davanti ad un muro di messaggi da leggere con Oggetti del tipo: &#8220;Re: Rif: R: Fw: Rif: Re: Campagna stampa XYZ&#8221;.</p>
<p><strong><em>Le idee innovative dentro Google Wave</em></strong></p>
<p>Già il fatto di poter organizzare le mail in <strong>thread</strong> (come insegna Gmail) o wave, vuol dire avere una inbox incontrovertibilmente più ordinata, facile da gestire e soprattutto senza duplicazioni. In più, la possibilità di rivedere in <strong>playback</strong> la sequenza di email ricevute (quando, da chi e in risposta a cosa), abbassa ulteriormente la difficoltà di lettura di un elenco di messaggi che potrebbe essere anche esageratamente lungo. In aggiunta, la <strong>flessibilità</strong> dell&#8217;ambiente e le numerose possibilità di <strong>collaborazione</strong> in real-time offrono uno strumento di lavoro dinamico e plasmabile. L&#8217;autore di questo video secondo me ha colto bene l&#8217;importanza di quel &#8220;3,5% di funzioni&#8221; su cui si basa Google Wave.</p>

<p>Paradossalmente, una delle novità più caratteristiche di Google Wave, ossia la chat con le singole lettere digitate mostrate in real-time, credo sia la meno utile a livello pratico. In chat capita con una certa frequenza di digitare una parola o una frase e di pensare all&#8217;ultimo istante di cancellarla e usarne un&#8217;altra. Chattare e sapere di spedire il messaggio <strong>solo dopo aver premuto il tasto Invio</strong> è un modo per cautelarsi da eventuali errori/casini provocati da parole distrattamente/inopportunamente digitate.</p>

<p>Pare che i primi ad inventare i gadget/widget siano stati gli antichi egizi. Le recenti scoperte di alcuni widget su una iTablet funeraria egizia sembrano confermare tale ipotesi.</p>
<p>Sempre restando in tema, pare anche che lo stesso Ramsesse I fosse un estimatore della <a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Taskbar" target="_blank">Taskbar</a>, al contrario di Ramsesse III che fece sterminare un popolo di ribelli che si rifiutava di piegarsi al dominio del <a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dock_(Mac_OS_X)" target="_blank">Dock</a>, di caramellosa e superiore efficacia.</p>
<p>Per chi non sa interpretare i geroglifici e non ha il Papiro Harris sul comodino accanto al letto, ma vuole solo leggere un riassunto che metta a confronto la millenaria disputa tra la Taskbar di Windows e il Dock di OSX, c&#8217;è il sempre ottimo Ars Technica, che lo scorso gennaio ha pubblicato un interessante articolo a riguardo: <a href="http://arstechnica.com/software/news/2009/01/dock-and-windows-7-taskbar.ars" target="_blank">Paradigms lost: The Windows 7 Taskbar versus the OS X Dock</a> (ovvero due filosofie a confronto, <em>window switcher</em> vs <em>application switcher</em>).</p>

			<content:encoded><![CDATA[<div class='snap_preview'><br /><p>Mi aspetto in tempi brevi che il team di sviluppo rilasci novità volte a <em>posterous-izzare</em> WordPress. Il successo di <a href="http://posterous.com/" target="_blank">Posterous</a> (relativo come spesso accade perché funziona solo tra geek non giovani) è dettato dalla sua semplicità e dal fatto di rimarcare l&#8217;importanza del lifestreaming oggi.</p>
<p>Posterous non ha niente che WordPress non offra già. Il difetto di WordPress è la goffaggine. Parlando di WordPress.com infatti:</p>
<ul>
<li>Il lifestream c&#8217;è, ma è lento se si appoggia agli RSS (difatti rispondono con <a href="http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/09/07/rss-in-the-clouds/" target="_blank">RSS Cloud</a>)</li>
<li>Il bookmarklet c&#8217;è, ma è <a href="http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2008/08/14/press-this-bookmarklet/" target="_blank">macchinoso</a></li>
<li>L&#8217;app per iPhone c&#8217;è, ma richiede <a href="http://iphone.wordpress.org/" target="_blank">troppi passaggi</a></li>
<li>La pubblicazione via mail c&#8217;è e funziona bene, anche per le <a href="http://en.blog.wordpress.com/2009/05/15/comment-reply-via-email-improvements/" target="_blank">risposte ai commenti</a></li>
<li>Per embeddare una risorsa esterna (es. un video di YouTube) occorre inserirla tra i tag o copiare il codice</li>
<li>Per caricare un file audio/video occorre pagare</li>
</ul>
<p>Niente di trascendentale. C&#8217;è solo da operare di fino per snellire ciò che esiste già.</p>

Alla fine del test si sentiva più stupido.</p>
<p>Tre cose.</p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;">Secondo: sale il dubbio che la relazione causa-effetto vada invertita.</p>

<p>Negli anni di Corel, Red Hat, Fedora, Mandrake, Mandriva, SuSE, Debian, Xandros, etc. di passi in avanti dal punto di vista delle tecnologie se ne sono fatti molti, ma dal punto di vista delle cifre se ne sono fatti pochi.</p>
<p>Quanto invece più improvvisa ed esplosiva è stata la crescita di Linux e della filosofia open source nel mercato degli smartphone solo negli ultimi 12 mesi?</p>
<p>La concorrenza si vince giocando su un campo comune, quello delle strategie commerciali, facendo leva sulle armi in più in proprio possesso.</p>
<p>Oggi Google annuncia di voler partecipare al gioco oltre i confini nei quali già opera con <a href="http://www.android.com/" target="_blank">Android</a>. Ci sono dunque buone possibilità che, anche per i PC (per ora meglio parlare solo di netbook), la partita diventi più interessante ed equilibrata.</p>

Quello che l&#8217;indagine di Compete rileva, invece, sono le attitudini già consolidate degli intervistati e di questi l&#8217;82% risponde negativamente affermando che non usa il telefonino per tale scopo.</p>

<p>Se il cliente non percepisce alcuna utilità nella gestione dei conti via cellulare non è perché &#8220;non c&#8217;è nessuna utilità nel gestire i conti via cellulare&#8221;, ma perché l&#8217;intervistato probabilmente è cliente di una banca che &#8220;non crea utilità attraverso i servizi di gestione dei conti via cellulare&#8221;. O di una banca che non sa comunicare.</p>
<p>Le risposte dipendono dalla <strong>praticità</strong> e dalla <strong>compatibilità</strong> del servizio offerto con le <strong>esigenze</strong> del cliente. Questo permette di compiere via cellulare operazioni di trasferimento immediato del danaro dal conto deposito al conto tascabile, cioè dal libretto di risparmio al conto corrente/carta di debito. Non sono un loro cliente (anche se ci sto pensando), ma credo che questo servizio sia particolarmente interessante per una banca che fa della liquidità dei depositi il suo punto di forza.</p>

Da mesi ormai Google Chrome è il mio broswer di default nella partizione di Windows, in attesa di poter installare una versione stabile anche su Linux. La società con Chrome è riuscita nel difficile compito di combinare al meglio tre caratteristiche fondamentali (oltre alla sicurezza) per un browser:

<p>Da mesi ormai <a href="http://www.google.com/chrome/index.html?hl=it" target="_blank">Google Chrome</a> è il mio broswer di default nella partizione di Windows, in attesa di poter installare una versione stabile anche su Linux. La società con Chrome è riuscita nel difficile compito di combinare al meglio tre caratteristiche fondamentali (oltre alla sicurezza) per un browser:</p>
<ol>
<li>la velocità di avvio (soprattutto il primo avvio)</li>
<li>la velocità di visualizzazione delle pagine Web</li>
<li>l&#8217;elevata compatibilità con le pagine Web</li>
</ol>
<p>Già ad un confronto ad occhio del primo avvio è palese che Google Chrome è di una reattività mai vista, praticamente si apre con la stessa scioltezza di Notepad, mentre Firefox 3.0.10 impiega qualche secondo anche ad installazione pulita e con i plugin più basilari.</p>
<p>La principale critica mossa all&#8217;attuale versione di Chrome è la mancanza di estensioni; siamo sicuri che sia una carenza realmente percepibile dall&#8217;utente comune? Io in ogni caso resto della filosofia &#8220;snello e ben proporzionato&#8221;.</p>
<p>In attesa dell&#8217;implementazione delle estensioni nelle prossime versioni di Chrome, ciò che si può fare è sopperire alla mancanza di una determinata funzione, alla quale siamo abituati, con un bookmarklet. Credo che i bookmarklet siano una risorsa sottovalutata, sulla quale anche Google dovrebbe puntare di più. Da <a href="http://it.wikipedia.org/wiki/Bookmarklet" target="_blank">Wikipedia</a>:</p>
<blockquote><p>Un bookmarklet è un piccolo programma JavaScript che può essere memorizzato come un normale URL all&#8217;interno dei segnalibri (bookmark in inglese) nei browser Web più popolari, o all&#8217;interno degli hyperlinks di una pagina Web.</p></blockquote>
<p>L&#8217;utilizzo dei bookmarklet ha principalmente tre vantaggi:</p>
<ol>
<li>non rallenta l&#8217;esecuzione del browser, anzi contribuisce a mantenerlo snello senza sovraccaricarlo di plugin</li>
<li>è valido per qualunque browser</li>
<li>è di immediata installazione/rimozione</li>
</ol>
<p>Questo discorso interessa tutti i browser ovviamente, ma è con Chrome che ha maggior senso proprio perché manca un sistema di gestione delle estensioni e perché la &#8220;barra dei segnalibri&#8221; dove salvare i bookmarklet coincide con la &#8220;barra dei preferiti&#8221;, che solitamente resta visibile (CTRL+B), pena l&#8217;impossibilità di accedere ai preferiti.</p>
<p>Spesso l&#8217;utilizzo di un bookmarklet può sostituirsi all&#8217;installazione di un&#8217;estensione. Di seguito riporto un elenco dei bookmarklet più interessanti che ho incontrato negli ultimi tempi:</p>

Ad esempio, ok ne avevano parlato anche sulla BBC dei cambiamenti in vista per l&#8217;International Herald Tribune&#8230; però che impressione vedere il sito dell&#8217;IHT fagocitato dal caotico portalone del <a href="http://www.nytimes.com/" target="_blank">New York Times</a>. Un vero peccato, IHT.com negli anni era stato concepito molto bene, <a href="http://geekmarketing.net/2008/05/12/10-motivi-per-leggere-e-apprezzare-ihtcom/" target="_self">elegante e razionale</a>. Forse anche troppo, considerando che gli attuali standard vanno nella direzione opposta. E del nuovo URL &#8220;<a href="http://global.nytimes.com/?iht" target="_blank">http://global.nytimes.com/?iht</a>&#8221; ne vogliamo parlare? Mah.</p>
