Appearing on stage included Debbie Danbrook.  Danbrook is a Master of the Shakuhachi, a traditional Japanese flute used by monks in a spiritual practice called suizen, or blowing Zen.  Mark Battenberg supplied his unique style of acoustic guitar.  Marks Poetry was read by David Pep Duhaime – http://www.facebook.com/profile.php?id=618145108 David is acting and doing voice-over work.  He also will be appearing in the new movie Karma and instructs in the art of British Jiu Jitsu.  This event was hosted by CBC’s Kevin Courrier,  Kevin Courrier is the author of Dangerous Kitchen: The Subversive World of Zappa and Randy Newman’s American Dreams. He’s worked as a writer/broadcaster and film critic at the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC). Courrier has also written about film and pop culture in Box Office, the Globe and Mail, and the Toronto Star.

There was exceptional artwork on display from artists Michael Battenberg and Kira May too.

Overall the whole evening was a giant success.  I am looking forward to the next one.

If you are not on the Voters’ List or the information about you is incorrect, you may go to the Municipal Offices at the address and times listed and fill out an application to be added to the list. Please note that the Clerk may require that you provide proof of identification or proof of qualification as an elector. Please call the Municipal Office to determin what documentation you may need.
Who May Vote?

Any person who on Voting Day meets all the following qualifications is eligible to vote.

• A Canadian citizen
• At least 18 years old
• Residing in the local municipality or an owner or tenant of land there, or the spouse of such owner or tenant
• Not otherwise prohibitied from voting

The following people are not entitled to vote.

• A person serving a sentenece of imprisonment in a penal or correctional institution
• A corporation
• A person convitcted of corrupt practice for an election held within four years of voting day
• A person acting as an executor or trustee on behalf of the person they are representing unless they have been appointed as a voting proxy

Number of Votes

A voter is entitled to vote once in a municipality and once for a school board even if the voter has more than one qualifying address within the municipality or school board. The place where they reside is where they vote. A voter may only have one permanent residence.

Vote by Mail

The alternative Voting Method “Vote by Mail” is being used for the 2010 Municipal Election. Voting kits will be mailed by Canada Post, to electors whose name appears on the preliminary list of electors during the week of September 13th, 2010. You will be issued one voting kit. Should you receive more than one kit, please note that it is against the law to vote more than once in a municipality (Municipal Election Act 97, s 51 (2)). To ensure that your completed ballot (the signed declaration form and the secrecy envelope containg the ballot, placed in the yellow return envelope) is received by the Municipality prior to the voting deadline, it must be deposited with Canada Post by October 18th 2010. The yellow return envelope may also be dropped off at the Marmora and Lake municipal Office until October 25, 2010 during normal office hours.

“This Song is Your Song: The Story of Bonnie Dobson’s ‘Morning Dew’”

The hour-long documentary, “This Song is Your Song: The Story of Bonnie Dobson’s ‘Morning Dew,’”
is about Bonnie Dobson, a Canadian singer/songwriter, who wrote the timeless anti-war song, “Morning Dew”
back in 1962. Over the next forty years, her song went on to be covered by hundreds of artists
(from Jeff Beck to Canada’s own Serena Ryder), but many would come to forget that Bonnie Dobson was its author.

“Morning Dew” was inspired by film director Stanley Kramer’s On The Beach, the story of survivors of a nuclear
fallout who make their way to Australia. Dobson, who was deeply affected by the story, wrote the song
as her way of expressing the dark mood of the picture and the times she lived in. She called the song “Morning Dew”
and it debuted at the Toronto Mariposa Folk Festival.

“Morning Dew” was first covered in 1964 by folk-singer Fred Neil and two years later by Tim Rose who made it a hit
while claiming co-authorship of the song. What followed was a bizarre story of copyright ownership that started a long
legal battle for her to retain her sole authorship.

“This Song is Your Song: The Story of Bonnie Dobson’s ‘Morning Dew’” both chronicles Dobson’s legal fight
for authorship as well as how “Morning Dew” evolved into one of the most covered folk songs in popular music.

The Marmora Fair boasted two new events this year headed up by Marmora’s own Bruce Cook.  They were the Ben Milot Stunt Cycle Team and The Marmora Arm Wrestling Tournament.  The Arm Wrestling featured Mike Gould, 2 Time World Champion and 17 time National Canadian Champion.  The event ran for most of the day with over 35 contestants.  There was even 6 women entrants, neither who I would of even competed against! The crowd was large and very supportive and appreciative.  Mike Gould of course

dominated the field which included “The Beast” Rick Heidebrecht.  Rick & Mike went to the straps every time they face each other and every match was close and intense.  Experience prevailed as Mike Gould went away with 1st over all in all categories.  Rick Heidebrecht pulled off second in all categories.  We were graced to also have Jeff Kink from Kitchener come out who competes in the handicap division as he only wrestles with his left hand.  Jeff dominated the field netting 1st place in Left Handed 170lb Division, I tell you he sure turned a few heads.  Other mentionables are Yannick Kwis & Troy Eaton who clinched their divisions.  Sunday night hosted Ben Milot and his team of motocross stunt drivers.  These guys have balls of steel, their landing ramp was 75′ away, these guys pulled off all kinds of extreme moves, none which I know the names of, except the Back Flip.  The crowd was pumped and in awe of the tricks these guys pulled off.  After the show they gave out Free posters and Autographs to the kids and adults alike.

Hats off to Crown Amusements who provided the Midway for the fair again this year,  The kids were entertained in a safe, fun, professional environment.  They can be found at http://www.crownamusements.com/ Thanks again Maggie, Dirk and Staff.  I must mention too that Crown Amusements hire 6 local kids to help with the operation of their fair.

Monday at the fair is always my favorite day, the grandstand show is always a hoot!  Bruce Cook you are an amazing community supporter.  Bruce run the grandstand show which consists of, Kids, Mens & Womens Nail Driving, Team Log Sawing, Potato Sack Race, Pie Eating, Oldest/Youngest Man/Woman and Person Farthest away.  Here are some of the results.

I do not know all the kids names that participated in the Pie Eating contest, but I can tell you it was the best event overall, more than 25 kids participated in two divisions, everyone was a winner this day.  All the kids were promptly instructed to give their parents a kiss afterwards which made for some great Kodak moments.

The kids tractor pull was a great hit both days. more than 30 children took advantage of bragging rights for tractor pull king/queen.  Again a great turn out and everyone had a great deal of fun.  I wish to thank Michelle, Melanie, Neil & Kent for helping me pull off this event.  Without your guys support it would not be possible.

Other highlights were The Hot Diggity Dogs, a very professional show and a very reputable training academy.

Saturday music was Aftermath, a Drummer with two Bassists and two guitar players, very unique, and backed up with an ambitious woman lead singer rocked the crowd.

Paul & Chris Payer again did a fabulous job with the Weight Pulls, this was another all day event that really drew the crowd.  Great entertainment!  Thanks to Debbie Harris for running the Beer Tent, made a great place to watch the pulls while having a cold beer.

Tanya Wannamaker!  Awesome job on getting the Vendors into the Arena, and for providing The Older Boys with your amazing Bunker’s Pizza.  Hey and Older Boys great job with the food kiosk, food was great!  Special thanks to Glen Ellis and The Older Boys for donating the money for the Arm Wrestling Tournament.

Another one in the books, looking forward to the Volunteer Party Sept, 18 2010.
