The gaming community has lately received one of the most powerful high-end gaming tablets of 2013; Razer Edge. This power-horse gaming device comes with a mammoth 10.1 inch display, Windows 8 OS and features a Core-i5 processor. The RAM is 8 GB while there a 64 GB SSD memory. The graphics are powered by Nvidia GeForce GT640M GPU, which takes them up in line with high-quality graphics of gaming laptops and desktop. Read on for the detailed review.

Design

The back of the device contains an engraved Razer logo. There are double vents above the logo, which keeps the hot air running out, so it won’t heat up anytime soon while being used. The body is made of plastic, while a thin bezel surrounds the glass of the display. 10-point multi-touch is supported by the display.

The underside contains the ports to where the charger is attached. At the top of the device, there’s a volume and auto-rotate button, a headphone jack and a USB port that’s compatible with USB 3.0.

Interface, apps and software

The tablet comes with Windows 8 as the native software, so users are presented with the tile-based interface. The best feature of the device is perhaps Steam, which comes pre-loaded and allows gamers to experience the world of PC online gaming and download their favorite titles to play. The experience is further enhanced if the device owners have access to fast wireless internet such as the one present on this website link.

Steam also features a Big Picture mode, which requires the Gamepad controller (available as a separate purchase). The platform will label the games which are optimized for the mode and which aren’t. The tablet also features Razer Launcher, which comes with a simple interface that can be used to launch the keyboard and titles. Users can also use the launcher to create shortcuts to apps and features they want to launch quickly.

Accessories

There’s a separate Docking Station that’s available for purchase costing $99. It comes with a power plug and can be attached to the tablet easily. The dock allows gamers to connect a mouse and a keyboard, as the tablet itself contains a single USB port. The dock’s back has a port for mic jack, headphone jack, HDMI port jack, power jack and three separate USB 2.0 ports. The downside is made of hard rubber, which means the user doesn’t have to worry about the dock slipping.

There’s also a separate GamePad controller costing $249 available for purchase, and it takes the gaming experience on the tablet further up the notch. The controller is made of high-quality materials and comes with a native battery. There are dual analog sticks and shoulder buttons. Start Select buttons, a D-Pad and four buttons beside the analog sticks make it all more appealing.

However, the GamePad further increases the weight of the gadget, making it uncomfortable to hold and play. The elbows would need to be kept on the desk or the device needs to be rested on the lap to play with the GamePad’s added bulk.

While the Razer Edge is a magnificent gaming device, the price tag of $1000 is not going to be affordable by everyone. The battery time while playing game is 1 hour, while it runs for 2.5 hours as a regular tablet. There’s a separate battery stack worth $70 that will extend the gameplay to an extra 2 hours.

With all the separate accessories, the investment can go up to $1500. While its value (price, battery life and features) doesn’t match to laptops and desktops available for the same price, it may be bought by those who have some cash to burn and are gamers looking to try new stuff.

So you’ve decided that it’s time to upgrade the family car, time to get that sports car you’ve always dreamed of or you’ve just got your driving license and mom and dad have offered to help you get your new car? Where do you start? Up until recently, it might have meant trawling round local garages or scouring the free ads or Craigslist. However, a new app may just have made things easier.

Produced in Australia, the free Carsales.com.au app allows you to search a huge database of nearly a quarter of a million cars for sale around the country. The company has taken the best of its extensive web presence and made it available on the go with apps for both iOS systems, including iPhone, iPad and iPod Touch, and Android devices.

The main selling point for this app is its extensive new and used car listings. It claims to have full details, including numerous photos, of more than 200,000 cars for sale across the country. The database is easily searched and your queries can be tailored to give you either a wide range of results or a very narrow selection if you are looking for a far more specific vehicle or if you’re only looking to travel so far to view or buy the car.

Once you have searched, it’s easy to create shortlist of vehicles in your favourites section. You can then add notes to these, including voice notes if you like, and also share the details to Facebook in case you’re looking to canvass opinion. The favourites section is also handy for tracking any changes in prices for the cars you’re interested in.

Although the search feature is the main reason people are going to use the app, there are a few more bells and whistles. For example, the “Showroom” section allows you to build and price your ideal vehicle.

If you are looking for a car to replace your own, the app does also feature a car valuation bit where you can input the details of your current car and it will give you a rough idea of what you could get for it – always handy to know before starting negotiations.

As is obligatory with such apps, there is a constantly-updated news and review section, the latter of which could be useful if you’re in the market for a new vehicle.

This is a good looking app that is basically an excellent version of the Car Sales site. As it’s free, you’ve not really got much to lose so definitely worth a try.

The Carsales.com.au app is freely downloadable from the Apple App Store and the Google Play store.

Technology advancements have made us forget about hardware external pointing devices called ‘mouse’ specially since the invasion of touch sensitive Smartphones, Tablet and laptop screens. From the old corded version to the Bluetooth enabled mouse this pointing device has accompanied and assisted man a long way. The latest way mouse has begun to assist man is by emerging into its brand new 3D form.

via reviews.productwiki.com

Just wear it around your fingertip and there you go, you are all set to use your 3D mouse. An enormous feature for multitasking, this mouse has been created by Nick Mastandrea and is available for a reasonable cost of under a hundred USD. The mouse is only the size of an ear piece and weighs very , very less. This makes the wearer of the deice feel absolutely no weight on his finger that has the mouse strapped over it. Thus, enhancing its usability and effectiveness. The battery life of the mouse lasts up to around nine hours depending upon its usage.

Embedded with bluetooth, the device can work from up to thirty feet away from the computing device to which it is connected. This is specially wonderful when giving presentations. The device connects perfectly well with iPad and iPhone with Android coverage following up closely sometime later this year.

This onset of these scribbling marks the end of the live venture by Facebook in which the New news Feed by Facebook was just launched officially. The long wait is now over, FINALLY! Emphasizing upon visual interface and the importance and effectiveness of the same Facebook announced that its latest Facebook fee was built more upon visuals rather than textual updates.

Arranging a user’s contacts on the extreme left by lining their visual icons up in a straight column the new interface enables selecting and identifying them by virtue of their display images rather than their names. Not only would the contacts’ visual images would be available but the recently tread pages, news feeds and the lists maintained by the user would be bought up right at the home page of the news feed.

If a single article/ photo album or video is being shared by multiple friends/users the new news feed does not show the same video being shared individually again and again but rather the tiled display images of those sharing the video and lined up in a columnar manner on the left of the video itself. Scrolling the mouse over their tiled images displays any comments that they have made while sharing this post with you. Each message/ comment is displayed separately and with respect to the tiled icon upon which the mouse is surfing at the moment.

The best part about the latest news feed is that it has an identical interface whether it is being viewed on a PC, a tablet or a Smartphone. This new interface, being termed as the “Mobile Inspired Interface” is said to possess “GLOBAL NAVIGATION” due to its visual stream and can be viewed currently at:

After the recent launch of Facebook Extraction Language, the organization of Facebook Hacker Competition and the enhanced Graph search feature associated with Facebook this is a third consecutive popularity gaining stunt being revealed by Facebook in the recent times. It is much of Facebook’s popularity has gone down ever since Twitter has begun to replace it in the Social Media platform.

The current news feed is based on the status updates of your Facebook friends, any photos or files they attach and any location check ins that a Facebook user does etcetera. The Facebook apps for iPhone and Android are also awaiting a revamp since the last time they were updated was back in the year 2011. It is expected that the news feed updates for these apps would come along with the updates for the desktop version of Facebook.

A main issue that would be looked up regarding the upcoming Facebook is that whether it would be in line with the expectations of its users or not. The higher its usability would be, the greater effect it would have on the popularity of the giant socializing network.

Microsoft SharePoint is a handy tool for getting the entire project management saga executed successfully and also enables support for the project team.

There may be several sub processes for project management such as risk management, procurement management, Time management, cost management and quality management etcetera. Each of these sub processes are dealt with via SharePoint by the building up of Project Websites that support the project team. SharePoint can help Project managers in the following manner:

The announcement of important project milestones, events and notifications can be done via it.

Centralized Administration Console embedded within SharePoint enables managers to keep a comprehensive eye over processing within the organization and also evaluate security features of the system.

Ability to get customized with respect to the needs of the individual users. Managers can decide which tools/menus should be visible to which users and which should not be.

SharePoint works smartly with other technologies like MS Office, Microsoft Exchange Server, MS Unified communications etcetera.

Data Protection is one of the most salient features of Microsoft SharePoint. No data can be accessed with the managerial system at any level without specific permissions being granted to do so.

Usability enhanced features of SharePoint enable users to feel ease and pleasure while actually satisfying business needs without having the need to code for each specific need.

Microsoft SharePoint plays an integral role in the enhancement of productivity of an organization by helping organizations aim and work for increased productivity.

The last two decades of the twentieth century proved to be the advent of the Unified Modeling Language. The UML can be narrated as “a language for specifying, visualizing and constructing the artifacts of software systems, as well as for business modeling.” (UML Document Set, 2001). On lighter note, the UML is a graphical means of depicting the design models with respect to specific environments.

via agilemodeling.com

Use Case Modeling is a subset of Unified Modeling Language. It can be narrated as a method whereby the requirements of the stakeholders can be incorporated into the system’s design.

The functional requirements of an existing or proposed system are described in detail via use case modeling techniques. The process modeling is done in the early stages of system development. User input can be altered at every stage of development in a use case that is developed as a result of the execution of the modeling technique.

The subsequent development stages are all based upon the use cases that are generated in the initiation. The components of a use case model are mainly actors and use cases.

An Actor is any external interaction with the system. It may be a person or an entity that exchanges data with the system. An actor may also be a user of the system though all users are not necessarily actors. A use case is a series of steps that gets initiated when an actor interacts with the system under consideration.

The goal that is achieved by use case modeling is the creation of a conceptual system regarding the observable behavior of the concerned system. This conceptual model is basically aimed at representing the real world scenario within the information system. The model also supports communication between the users and the developers of the system, enables better analytical understanding of the system and proves to be a point of initiation for the designers of the system. (Wand and Weber, 2002)

In order to set up a computer network in the enclosed premises of Sally and John’s home-cum office it is suggested that the following hardware be purchased:

A Router

A Router can be either wired or wireless. Even though there is no current need for a wireless router in John’s small scale business but it is better to be prepared for the future. If, sometime later, they do plan to switch to a wireless local area network they would not have to buy another router. For the time being the wireless option of the router can be switched off.

A router is available in different speeds. Sally can choose from the 54Mbit router, 11 Mbit router or the other routers available. However it is recommended that the one with the highest speed should be bought which is the current state is 2.4 GHz router (the Wireless g-standard). The 2.4 GHz standard is preferred for its stability and also because of the wide area it covers. The 2.4 GHz router (Wireless b-standard) is not generally recommended.

The Ethernet cable having maximum number of connections for Ethernet cables should be opted for. Cross Cables should not be opted for since they do not go with the router setup. Please refer to Appendix for a comparison of routers available in the market. The table clearly narrates the capabilities and range of the routers as well.

An Ethernet Modem

The router gets connected to the Ethernet Modem. The Ethernet modem does not need to get connected to every computer separately. The Ethernet modem gets connected to the internet. Via the router each connected computer gets access to the internet as well. The internet connection provider would be able to provide an Ethernet modem. That would be the most suitable Ethernet modem to go for.

Network Adapter and UTP Cables

A network card or adapters needs to be embedded into each computer system that is connected to the network. This card recognizes the network settings and enables the computer to get connected to it. Each computer is connected to the router by a separate CAT5 UTP cable.
