iPod Nano 6G totally violates the music player concept

Yes, I admit I was extremely pleased upon Steve Jobs and co introducing the next generation of iPod Touch Nano during Yesterday’s sensational event. But once I started analyzing the 6th generation of iPod Nano from the practical perspective I came at the conclusion of it being a useless product. I have my reasons which I share after the jump.

The image shown above is included for a purpose. Why is the iPod Nano being held in such a manner? Firstly, to give you a clear view of 1.5 inch multi-touch screen. Secondly, it is an indication that to be able to use this good for nothing music player, you will always have to explicitly look on the small sized screen to make sure you perform the intended action(move to the next track etc) which is against the true concept of MP3 player.

I don’t recall a MP3 player requiring such focused interaction. Take the previous iPod Nano model for example, the click wheel made sure that you could use the mp3 player without having to look at the player. I don’t see iPod Nano 6G being productive when it comes to using it while jogging or driving a car. What’s your take on this? Do share with us.

iTunes 10 goes live, is safe for jailbroken iDevices

Apple’s highly entertaining media event was well full of announcements. We saw Steve Jobs announcing the new iPod Touch, 6th generation iPod Nano, a reshaped iPod Shuffle, iOS 4.1 along with an iOS 4.2 preview. Wait I missed one important thing – iTunes 10. The must have software for iDevice owners has gone live and is now available for download for Windows and Mac users.

iTunes 9 successor has gotten itself a new logo the CD free logo that is. But the most exciting thing about this whole update is Ping, the social face of iTunes.

According to Steve Jobs Ping brings Facebook/Twitter like functionality to iTunes. The way it works is pretty simple as it lets you follow your friends and music artist and share with them the tracks you like and love. Apart from this you can post status updates, comment on your contacts’ status updates and engage in social conversations right inside iTunes.

We have kept the best for the last. iTunes 10 is a go land for jailbroken/unlocked iPhone/iPod Touch/iPad users as confirmed by MuscleNerd.

Samsung Galaxy Tab announced the official way

Samsung Galaxy Tab has finally gotten what it should have received earlier – an official announcement. This should come as no surprise. Infact it should be a sigh of relief for the Android Tablet enthusiasts who have been bombarded with leaked info for the beautiful looking Tablet on a regular basis.

Samsung Galaxy Tab will has a 7 inch TFT-LCD screen, will run on top of Froyo and will be powered by a 1 Ghz processor. What’s more the first ever Samsung Tablet will have not one but two cameras. The rear facing camera is a 3 MP one whereas the front facing camera has a 1.3 MP sensor an area where iPad is clearly behind. Flash 10.1 support is there as well.

Looking at the connectivity side of things, you can use Samsung Galaxy Tab to make phone calls thanks to its 3G support. WiFi and Bluetooth 3.0 support are the other connectivity alternatives users will have at their disposal. The tablets will come in two flavors 16 GB and 32 GB with both supporting microSD card support upto 32 GB.

Samsung GALAXY Tab will be launched in Europe in mid September, and in other markets including Korea, the US and Asia in coming months.

Looking at the gadget’s specifications, it looks like a worthy iPad competitor but I am reserving my final comments for now until I get some hands-on time with the Tablet. What’s your take on the Samsung Galaxy Tab?

iOS 4.1 coming next week, with Game Center and much more

We had a gut feeling that Steve Jobs will mention a thing or two about the upcoming iOS 4.1 update and we weren’t disappointed. According to the Apple CEO, iOS 4.1 update will be rolled out during the course of next week and will bring in a handful of fixes as well as new features. Details follow after the jump.

During Yesterday’s concluded media event, Steve Jobs right after announcing the 4th generation iPod Touch made a marketing move and launched a video commercial of the iPod Touch 3G successor. Once that happened, I knew it was only a matter of time before the commercial will go live on Apple’s YouTube channel and that time has arrived now. Video commercial follows after the jump.

As you can tell from the commercial iPod Touch is the gadget to have if you are into gaming and love taking HD quality videos. With this latest generation of iPod Touch FaceTime is another use case which will definitely excite many if not all. Need iPod Touch 4 specs, get them here.

iOS 4.2 is coming to iPad in November, will do multi-tasking, printing and much more

As expected, Apple’s recently concluded media event was full of excitement filled announcements. As a matter of fact, Steve Jobs took advantage of the opportunity by announcing and previewing iOS 4.2 update for the Apple Tablet users. iPad will be getting the iOS 4.2 update in November and it is the kind of update you cannot miss out on. Even though the iPad is reaching new heights, there is no denying the the lack of multi-tasking support makes the iPad a little bit less useful. Apple’s highly anticipated media event has kicked off with Steve Jobs performing the keynote speaker duty. In addition to playing the numbers game, Apple CEO made the announcement which the audience came for – iPod Touch 4. Specs, price and release date of the next generation of Apple’s media player follows after the jump.

Dropbox for Windows Phone 7 in the works

We are currently living in an age where cloud storage is taking center stage. DropBox is the name that comes to my mind when I start thinking about cloud storage solutions. If you are a die hard Windows Phone 7 fan, you will be wondering if the app DropBox for Windows Phone 7 does exist? Well we have got news for you – DropBox for WP7 is in the works under the name WP7Box and l3v5y the genius Windows Mobile developer is behind this project.

The app will integrate with Office, Pictures ,and Music + videos hub thus putting forward a strong claim of providing a fully productive file syncing and online backup solution. The developer plans to release the source code and library of the app to allow other developers to integrate DropBox in their apps.

Apple to live stream its media event

It has been a while since Apple live streamed its high profile events. But that’s all going to change today as the Cupertinos have announced their plans to live stream its annual media event which kicks off today in San Francisco.

Only Mac, iPhone, iPod Touch or iPad owners can see the event streamed live on their gadgets by navigating to apple.com. Windows and Linux users have simply been thrown out of the live streaming scenario which is sad to say the least. Here is the official announcement:

Apple® will broadcast its September 1 event online using Apple’s industry-leading HTTP Live Streaming, which is based on open standards. Viewing requires either a Mac® running Safari® on Mac OS® X version 10.6 Snow Leopard®, an iPhone® or iPod touch® running iOS 3.0 or higher, or an iPad™. The live broadcast will begin at 10:00 a.m. PDT on September 1, 2010 at www.apple.com.

What will Apple announce on 1st September?

We are just hours away from Apple’s eagerly awaited media event. The rumor factory as you can imagine is full of rumors or should I say overflowing with speculations. In times like these, it is quite easy to forget the bigger picture. We are fully aware of this and this post is an attempt to summarize the possible announcements that Steve Jobs and co will be making in San Francisco.

iPod Touch 4 – It wouldn’t be wrong to term the new iPod Touch as the centre point of this whole event. The fourth generation of iPod Touch is likely to get a retina display screen, 5 MP camera, Facetime capabilities and much more. You might the following links helpful:

Apple TV / iTV – The rumor industry has been full of Apple TV related speculation suggesting Cupertino’s plan of renaming it to iTV and planning to price it for just $99. The iTV is believed to be equipped with an ARM processor and will have App Store access which is huge. Check out these links for more information:

iPod Nano – This is one product that has been at the heart of rumor industry in the last few days. Apple is likely to roll out the 6th generation of iPod Nano on Wednesday and when it does expect it to become with a new design one which will not have the traditional click wheel.
