Harry potter hogwarts mystery game is now available on android and ios

Fans of Harry Potter can now use their smart phone to make a custom character and live the life a wizarding student in Hogwarts. The game takes place in the 80's before Harry Potter and the gang have arrived.

Multiple reviews are touting the story lines as excellent and how personal the experience feels. You can join a houses, attend lessons, play Quidditch, and go solve mysteries for a full Hogwarts experience.

The game is styled in a cartoon like fashion, with voice actors, Michael Gambon as Dumbledore, Warwick Davis as Proffesor Flitwick, and Maggie Smith as Professor McGonagall.

The settings are not only Hogwarts, you may visit Diagon Alley and Hogsmeade as well. New characters approved by J.K. Rowling, Including a Hufflepuff potion master Penny and a Slytherin girl Merula will also be in the game.

Nickelodeon announces the return of Double Dare

Nickelodeon has just announced that the 80's era game show Double Dare is going to return with 40 new episodes this summer.

The show put teams of kids in competition with each other including trivia, physical challenges, and of course the obstacle course. The green slime is also said to be making a return along with the show. Sadly Marc Summers wont be reprising his role as the Double Dare host, and a new emcee has not been named yet.

Hopefully the wring, the human hamster wheel, and the always infamous double dare nose will find their way back to the set.

Live action Mob psycho 100 announced following english manga and season 2 confirmation

Mob Psycho 100 was confirmed for a second season by Bones last march to a cheer from its rapidly growing fan base. It has been a good year for the series as last month publisher DarkHorse also bought the US license for an english version of the manga. While the original main crew from season 1 is currently set to trudge onto a season 2, netflix made a surprise announcement for May, in a Mob Psycho 100 live action installment.

The series premiered in japan on January 12, starring Kazuki Namioka as Reigen, Tatsuomi Hamada as Mob, Yuki Yoda as Tsubomi, and Akio Ohtsuka as Dimple. It was met with a positive reception. One, the artist also behind the creation of One Punch Man, started the series in april 2012, and adapted part of it in an anime series in July 2016.

If you are unfamiliar, the story follows an 8th grader name Seigeo Kageyama, who has psychic abilities. As they grow in power he combats this by suppressing his emotions to the point of not feeling, as he is put in more dangerous situations though, this suppression proves increasingly difficult.

Hank Azaria willing to stop voicing Apu on the simpsons

Voice actor Hank Azaria made an appearance on "The Late Show with Stephen Colbert" to address the controversy over the character Apu Nahasapeemapetilon that he voices on the iconic show "The Simpsons."

Following the documentary "The Problem with Apu" a hard look was given at the character being depicted with a liberal use of stereo types. The show has recently seen increased displeasure with the portrayal of the Indian immigrant.

Azaria is quoted saying, "I think the most important thing is to listen to Indian people and their experience with it. I really want to see Indian, South Asian writers in the writers room. Including how Apu is voiced or not voice. I'm perfectly willing to step aside. It just feels like the right thing to do to me."

Hank Azaria indicated he was aware that Apu was a cause of controversy and stated that, "It's come to my attention more and more over the past couple years."

Feeling conflicted about this news he said, "The Idea that anyone young or old, past or present, being bullied based on Apu really makes me sad. It certainly was not my intention. I wanted to bring joy and laughter to people."

"The Simpsons" previously responded to the criticism with an episode titled "No Good Read Goes Unpunished" that saw Marge Simpson trying to censor a book from the last generation while she reads to Lisa. Lisa breaks the fourth wall and says, "Something that started decades ago and was applauded and inoffensive is now politically incorrect. What can you do?"

The episode "No Good Read Goes Unpunished" was met with criticism, and the showrunner Al Jean tweeted to critics that he would "continue to try and find an answer that is popular & more important right."

Azaria was asked about the episode of "The Simpsons" and responded, "I had nothing to do with the writing or the voicing. I think if anyone came away from that segment thinking they need to lighten up...that's definitely not the message that I want to send."

Hank Azaria stated that he was open to changing the role of Apu, saying "I've given this a lot of thought, and as I say my eyes have been opened."

Sense 8 greenlit for a finale episode

Earlier this month, Sense 8 was cancelled when Netflix announced it would not be renewing the show for a third season. Sense 8 is actually a favorite around GeekyLists so we were heartbroken. Apparently much of the fan base was as well, and a massive campaign of letters and petitions came forth.

If you are not familiar with Sense 8, it is about sensates that evolved in a certain way so that they share mini hive minds, these small groups are called clusters. The shared thoughts and experiences between them make them very close knit and very capable in many situations. There are mundane problems they help each other with as well as a big shadow corporation/military organization that hunts them to try to weaponize them. It is a fantastic show that is masterfully written.

Well Netflix and co-creator Lana Wachowski heard the grief from the fans and saw all the outcry, and got the show green lit for a finale double episode, hopefully to give closure and a proper goodbye to the fans.

The finale is slated for 2018, and should be 2 hours long.

We here at GeekyLists would have preferred a third season, but at least it will get a finale. It is intended to be an ending for the show. Some shows are just too good to live, I hope it will be happy playing with megas xlr and firefly off wherever those shows go.

Giant bids for Star Wars auction R2D2, Light saber, Darth Vaders Helmet

The auction house Profiles in History held a Star Wars auction on Wednesday. Some of the items listed where Luke Skywalker's Lightsaber from the first two films, Darth Vader's Helmet, and an R2D2 unit which was compiled by a british man from parts used throughout the original trilogy. The construction of the R2D2 took seven years for him to build.

The Darth Vader helmet managed to sell for $96,000. A hefty sum. Not to be out done by the dark side though, the lightsaber was purchased for a whopping $450,000. The little R2 that could though was purchased by an anonymous bidder for $2.76 million dollars. Also noteable, Bill Paxton's helmet from Aliens went for $51,000.

The highest estimate for the R2 was 2 million dollars, which was far exceeded. The legs were from the empire strikes back, while the body was from the phantom menace, and the opening hatch came from attack of the clones. It was a labor of love for sure, and we at geeky lists are happy that it paid off him.

Why we are still hype for Death Note

Death note was an amazing manga, it was an amazing anime as well, as a matter of fact it had some amazing movies too, five of them. So it is hard to argue that the netflix adaption needs to be 1 to 1, seeing as it would be the sixth death note movie, if these were sequels, it would be at death note in space territory.

For the new people, the basic story is that a genius high school kid named Light finds a book, the book can kill anyone who's name is written in it, Light decides that all bad guys need to die, with the help of a death god named ryuk egging him on, he starts killing people. A genius detective named L takes notice, and proceeds to try to track down and trap Light to lock him away for his crimes. Intrigue, schemes, ploys, and chess master level strategies ensue, with a heavy dose of awesome.

Now netflix has it set to come out august 25th, and the trailers have caused a lot of backlash, Light Yagami is now Light Turner a white guy who seems like an outside, Japan is now Seattle, L is black. The tone seems a little more action oriented, more bodies, explosions, and destruction is featured in the trailer. It feels like a lot of people are just reacting to change in general.

The fact is this, I don't want a sixth perfect remake, I have seen the previous 5, they did awesome capturing it. I have always felt that despite being great, death note was a little heavy on the intrigue and a little light on the action, I have also felt that death in it didn't really register as more than a stake that happened to people, and finally I had always wished that it had a little more action in between the 15 minutes of verbal jousting. The netflix adaption seems to have addressed all of these things, and bonus, its more relatable to the demographic watching it.

Usually I would be up in arms with you, usually, but again, it has been done properly and well a few times over. Worst case it will completely miss the point and you will have 5 other movies about the exact same thing to watch. Best case it will add more dimension and new takes to a story we all completely love.

Adam Wingard (You're next, The Guest) has made some really nice scenes and a good dose of atmosphere in the trailer, Roy Lee stated the obvious as well, it is specifically a western adaptation for a different culture, so changes needed to happen, and objectively, nothing I have seen has made me mad at it, Light still feels like light, L still feels like L.

Quite frankly, and this is going to be my closing argument, the entire cast could actually be swapped out with rat terriers, it could be Death Note: Wish Bone edition, and I would still watch it just to see Willem Dafoe play Rayuk, seeing that is worth the entire rest of the movie being wrong.

Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy hit us right in the high school

The Crash Bandicoot N.Sane Trilogy is finally out, and stays surprisingly true to the source despite Activision and Vicarious Visions being behind it instead of naughty dog. It will transport you right back to the good old days, while still giving you overall smoother game play and beautiful visual upgrades. It costs 39.99 which is about 13 dollars each game and for what it delivers, that feels like hitting the lottery.

The first game, Cortex Strikes Back, and Warped are included in the trilogy. The difficulty is as hard as you remember, and many deaths should be expected, with the old platformer timing and well placed enemies making you earn your victories. At least the funny death scenes have been left in so you can laugh with yourself at yourself. The autosaving feature helps a bit though.

The underwater controls and driving in races are still a bit loose on the controls, and a few of the 3d depth upgrades can mislead you, but overall the controls have actually improved. They also tweaked some of the enemies to help indicate when they are vulnerable to attack which is a big help as well.

Crash's sister Coco has been added to the fray as a playable character, she is just a reskinned crash with her own animations, but its a nice bit of variety. The level designs, music, and sound effects are largely the same as the original and bring you right back, but visually they seem to one up each other in terms of being pretty.

Each level seems to shine a little bit more than the last, and the clunky controlled water levels are downright beautiful in 4k. Anyone used to the original graphics will probably need a moment to take in how much it has improved from the days of blocky ps1 geometry and limited textures to the new highly detailed individual hairs showing glory of the ps4.

A few functions were added as well, the aforementioned autosave, a check point system, time trials, and online leader boards.

Overall it is a remaster done right, it still feels like the game we all loved, but it has some edges smoothed out, a face lift, and a couple new bells and whistles. For the price, its a great little trip down memory lane.

If you could get a robot pal, which robot would you choose? We here at Geeky Lists decided to sort out which ones and why. You will notice a distinct lack of androids on the list, with data being an exception because a case was made that he opened himself up and looked robotic more so than most. We introduced some outside polling for input this time, and input is completely encouraged, drop a comment any time, or if you are on Facebook or Twitter you can comment or message, you will be heard. A one robot per franchise rule was put in place for the sake of variety and and keeping the list short and readable. So in the order of votes, Geeky Lists is proud to present to you, a list of the most wanted robot pals.

1. R2-D2 - Star Wars

R2 is the front runner, and I can see why. First he is a mobile tool box with a ton of extensions and add ons. Second he doesn't take crap from anyone, ever. Able to say more with beeps and whirs than some people can say with a full grasp of English, although he resembles a garbage can with wheels, he contains a ton of personality and the bravery to back it up. He can merge with your space ship and help repair it as well. Comes complete with a full holographic entertainment system, and also survived the prequels still looking good.

2. Terminator - The Terminator

The T-800 model 101 is one of the scariest robots ever made. It has the combat and tracking abilities to make it a formidable protector to say the least. Able to use cars and motor cycles as well as full human dexterity, plus built in scanners, and a reinforced frame, its highly durable and able to hold a conversation at the same time. With the optional skin upgrade, it is the only one on this list that can seamlessly pass for human, which in some situations could be a serious plus.

3. Bender - Futurama

Bender Bending Rodriguez, made in Mexico. He is the hard drinking and smoking kleptomaniac that befriended fry. While most of the time he looks for angles to get over on people, he still manages to care and look out for fry when it really counts. He is forever saying quotable lines and unapologetically hooks up with lady robots of all types. If you are more into planning heists than just exploring, bender is definitely the robot for you. Capable of emotions and full speech, he is a complete personality and although 95% titanium he manages to pull off some complex human situations.

4. Data - Star Trek

Data is arguably the best character in Star Trek: The next generation according to our readers. With inadvertent humor and struggling with trying to understand human emotions, he manages to make quite a few memorable moments. Stronger than a Klingon and able to beat masters at their own games, he certainly brings a lot to the table. He has compassion though, and cares about the crew as well as spot, "You must tell him he is a pretty kitty." When offered everything he ever wanted at the expense of his friends, he walked away. I can see how so many people chose him, just make sure you aren't accidentally getting lore.

5. Gort - The day the earth stood still

Klaatu Barada Nikto, The phrase with a million meanings, Gort seems to be some kind of universal police man. Forever an enigma and the best example I have seen as the strong silent type, his powers go pretty unchecked. If you need someone to watch your back, having a sleek mystery stranger backing you up that has the power to end a planet could definitely be a bonus. Plus he will definitely make sure they try to fix you.

6. Wall-E - Wall-E

For a Waste Allocater Load Lifter, Wall-E sure comes through being likable. He doesn't have a lot of the features of the other robots, but just the same, he manages to win hearts with an efficiency only a robot can muster. Managing to save the course of humanity while running after his love for EVE firmly planted him in the hearts of a lot of people. I know that when I first saw him, it was like Johnny 5 had an adorable toddler.

7. Optimus Prime - Transformers

It takes raw grit, before you are even a prime, to realize your leader is evil and turn against him. Optimus sided with humanity before he knew about humanity. Being disguised as a truck, he would be handy for long trips, and I don't see a lot getting past him. He is extremely wise as well and fully equipped with a radio to make those long road trips deep and meaningful. Given his pledge to protect the life of all sentient beings, I feel like aside from getting to hang out with a giant ass kicking robot, he would provide a lot of great character traits to aspire to, and help you try.

8. The Iron Giant - The Iron Giant

The Iron Giant may have been made to be a weapon, but given a clean slate, he turned himself around. He managed to learn a lot about earth from Hogarth and ultimately chose a new path for himself. Armed with one of movies most effective weapons, the power of friendship, a would be weapon turned himself into a hero. Also he happens to just be flat out awesome and hilarious. The Iron Giant would be a good robot companion for anyone who just needed a buddy as well as anyone worried about the dangers of an adventure.

9. RoboCop - Robocop

While technically half a robot, and a pretty bad cop with regard to the law, Robocop still manages to be a full and good hero. Constantly working through sabotages and having his humanity guide his new robotic existence, he manages to pull off tons of really cool shots and moves. Adding to that he also has a strong sense of core values, and upgrades that push him even further into the awesome category, I think he is a solid choice. His accuracy is outstanding for a movie character with his pistol, and he has full computer integration. Models coming after him have repeatedly not surpassed him, he is a true classic.

10. Johnny 5 - Short Circuit

Johnny 5 got hit with a bolt of pure awesome, I am pretty sure that is all he is powered by now. From bad ass dance moves to joining a street gang. Who wouldn't want to hang with someone who reprograms enemies to be the three stooges. He can rapidly absorb knowledge and apply it to his every day life, is capable of self repair, and can even reprogram himself to add functionality. I personally would hang out with Johnny 5 even if I had nothing in particular to do, because we could joke about old movies all day.

11. Marvin - Hitchhikers guide

Poor marvin, ever dependable and never getting a break. He is the Eeyore of the robot world, but after living three times longer than the universe itself, that is understandable. He may complain a lot, but a lot of the time he is witty, and he has shown himself to be reliable on many occasions through some pretty heavy circumstances. With his brain the size of a planet, he is forced to save the day many times. He may not be too happy, but he would be a solid companion, hopefully with someone who appreciates him.

12. Rosie -Jetsons

Saved from being scrapped, Rosie looked after the Jetsons. Always wearing her apron and ready for whatever was needed to keep house, she vacuumed her way into the family. With a jersey accent she may have coined the term "Mr. J" that was co-opted so much later. She shows genuine concern for the family quite a bit and would actually tidy up after you, so for the convenience alone, I can see why she is a popular choice.

13.The good robot uses - Bill and ted's bogus journey

You have no idea how happy I am that they made the list. Able to play instruments and rock out after knocking off evil robot heads. Something about the good robot bill and ted is just likable. Station cobbled them together out of hardware store goods, and they proceeded to help save the future. A lot of robots have a lot of accomplishments under their belts, but "Rocked out with death himself" and "Helped god give rock and roll to you" are claims only the good robot Bill S Preston and the good robot Ted Theodore Logan can deliver, they are WILD STALLIONS.

14. Tom Servo - Mystery Science Theater 3000

While I am sure Crow might have something to say about it, Tom Servo ranked higher than him. He is a master of turning a bad situation into...a slightly less bad situation. Forever coming up with a quick joke and helping to ease Joel's pain, this life long companion helps you endure psychological attacks. Armed with a bubble gum machine for a head that dispenses one liners mercilessly, he could brighten up almost any situation.

15. MechaGodzilla - Godzilla

One of the only truly worth foes for Godzilla, MechaGodzilla can go missle toe to toe with the big G. In most cases he is almost too much for him. Using his rainbow lasers to bring the pain, MechaGodzilla was powerful enough to make you worry about Godzilla himself, let that sink in for a second. I am not sure the practical side of hanging out with MechaGodzilla, but I do know one thing, if you show up with MechaGodzilla, whatever you needed to get done is going to get done.

11 of the best Space ship captains: Star ship captain Shoot out

Which Captain truly rules space? We at Geeky Lists set to the stars to find out. After talking about Sci Fi movies in general and then discussing the best new SciFi shows we started arguing over who was best at the helm, so a new list was born. Lone pilots and ships that with a crew under 5 had to be ruled out, for the sake of shortening the list. Some general guidelines were used but the justification is on a case by case basis. As usual the list is in no particular order, you either made the list or you didn't. So open hailing frequencies, because the list is being sent to you now.

1. Captain Jean-Luc Picard - Enterprise E - Star Trek: The Next Generation

Captain Picard is the embodiment of a refined, educated, and wise captain. Tending to pull from experience and guile, he more often than not out maneuvered opponents rather than using brute force or raw courage. Having to deal with omnipotent and and omnipresent enemies, he could still be seen sipping tea, planning, and winning ground using Shakespeare.

Not to say he never uses weapons, but he was a complex captain, that struggled and worried about his entire crew and space politics at large. Probably the most level headed of the list, and also the wisest, he lead with grace drawn from competence, with a good dose of toughness. Captain Picard is definitely one of the best Space Ship captains.

2. Captain James T. Kirk - USS Enterprise - Star Trek

Prime directives are over rated. Captain James T Kirk aboard the star ship Enterprise was an iconic hero. Being decisive, brave, and clever, if he didn't like his options, he MADE an option. He cut the cloth for the dashing saviors that came after him with a metric ton of style.

Alien chick that looks good, he kissed her, big nasty alien charging, he fought it, group of people on the verge of being destroyed, he saved them. He might have been rash and a force of nature unleashed on the universe, but he was a doer, and he got the job done, always. Captain Picard may have been the surgical scalpel later, but never under estimate the usefulness of the hammer that was Captain Kirk.

3. Han Solo - The Millennium Falcon - Star Wars

The scruffy nerf herder himself, Armed with one of the baddest co-pilots in the universe, he succesfully adapted from being one of the best smuggler pilots into evading the entire empire. Sheer piloting skills and backing up his crew the entire way.

You want to talk about decisive bravery? The doors open in Sky City, Lord Darth Vader is standing there, about to spring the trap. Han doesn't say anything, he doesn't pause or make a shocked face, he shoots, multiple times, right at Vaders face.

If Darth Vader would have paused for even a moment, he single handedly would have ended the war, using nothing but his standard blaster and raw courage. Also he NEEDS to get points for all the quotable lines. Plus, he can do the Kessel run in under 12 parsecs.

4. Captain Malcom Reynolds - Serenity - Firefly

Did someone mention quotable lines? Cause this big damn hero is full of them. Few captains love their ship and their crew as much as Captain Mal. I am not sure I would go with cunning so much as devious, but Captain Mal will find a way in the face of overwhelming odds. He inspires a loyalty from his crew that most captains could only dream of, doubling back for crew members he doesn't even like without a second thought.

Never one to hesitate when things get heavy, he is very capable in a fight. He acts dark but almost always redeems himself, as far as complex and likable Captains go, Captain Mal would be the yang to Captain Picards yin.

5. Captain Turanga Leela - The Planet Express Ship - Futurama

Poor Leela, she has shown great skill in flying, hand to hand combat, and always gets the package where it needs to go, despite the certain doom involved. The reason she makes the list is because she continues to function and get the job done while faced with a crew that is an army of ignorance. They subvert her at every turn and yet somehow she manages to rally them all together to make it back safely.

Leela is the ultimate cat herder as well as overcoming the stigma of being a mutant, and for that, she deserves her spot on the list.

6. Commander Peter Quincy Taggart/Jason Nesmith - Protector - Galaxy Quest

While his only real training was playing a Captain on TV before becoming a real captain. Captain Nesmith managed to figure out the ropes in record time. His crew was only subversive for a small moment in the beginning and formed into a team under him the second real trouble started. Even with a lack of any actual experience he managed to score major tactical victories and ultimately save an entire race of aliens.

Fake it until you make it? Never give up, never surrender.

7. Admiral William Adama - Battlestar Galactica - Battlestar Galactica

Few Captains have had it harder than Admiral Adama, most people would just break down and let humanity die out. He is hard as nails, as long as everyone did as he said, things generally continued. He had the grit to put down a mutiny, and make the hard calls for survival as a whole. Faced with an impossible situation, he took it one step at a time and worked through it.

8. John Crichton - Moya - Farscape

A second generation astronaut, thrown through a worm hole and trapped on a ship full of rebels sounds like something you would have to fight your way out of. Instead Crichton took over, with his decisive leadership he managed to bail the crew out multiple times. Forever spouting references the crew will never get, and trying to figure out the best move to get home and keep everyone safe.

Strongly principled and full of raw conviction, he put himself in danger and was prepared to sacrifice himself for what he believed was right, even to the point of giving up his happy life on earth, which he spent most of the time returning to. Always looking on the bright side of things, he was easy to underestimate but he demonstrated knowledge in theoretical physics that was beyond a lot of space fairing advanced scientists.

He ended up in love with aeryn, and got the girl, he wanted to get to earth, and got there. He was highly effective and did everything in an upbeat way, for that, he makes the list.

9. John Sheridan - White star 1 - Babylon 5

The only Captain to destroy a Minbari ship, A few other sites disqualified him as being a station captain, but not only did he command the Lexington and destroy the Minbari flagship Black Star but he also assumed the rank of commander on the White Star 1, a ship with a crew of 50, so he counts, twice, I don't think some of these other guys have even seen the shows.

Sheridan was more rigid than his predecessor on Babylon 5, but he showed a competence and a head for politics that brought the others under him in short order. He cared deeply about everyone in his command, and tried to make the choices he thought was right, defying everything if necessary when reaching for the greater good. His guile is not to be underestimated either, as more than a few people, including the unbeatable Minbari, have been out maneuvered by him.

He protected Earth and tried to protect even when Earth itself turned on him, and when super powered ancient races came for him, he mounted an army, did all he could to even the odds, and brought it right back to them. John Sheridan deserves his spot on this list.

10. Zaphod Beeblebrox - Heart of Gold - Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

The two headed, Three armed, inventor of the Pan Galactic Gargle Blaster may not seem like an obvious choice, but he DID evade the entire universe, and successfully complete his mission. He has survived many encounters, including machines designed to kill him such as the Total Perspective Vortex.

Given his formidable skill set, guile, and just plain luck, he managed to steal a spot on the list as well.

11. Star Lord - Milano - Guardians of the Galaxy

With guardians of the galaxy in movie form, we can include Star Lord, and on sheer awesome alone I think he qualifies. The former mercenary started early and bounced around the galaxy from adventure to adventure. With an addiction to classic rock and more bravado than any normal man should have, he found himself in between two galactic super powers, and committed to fighting it out. 5 separate people show up to kill him, and 5 separate people end up on his crew. He is ever crafty, fast with a blaster, and down to try literally anything if it means saving the galaxy.

9 fictional cars with the best extra features

While a lot of cool cars bless the screen, some are just a few notches above your average muscle car. We decided that on today's list we would get into some of the baddest cars around. It is important to note that there isn't any official answer on what the hell is on top of the Ecto-1, which lead to it not appearing. As always, the cars with the best after market options were debated, and the justification was made for the last cars standing. I fought long and hard for the magic school bus, but it was determined that Ms. Frizz was the source of the magic, this battle is not over. Without further delay, we give you the cars with the best after market options.

1. Christine - Christine

Ok sure, she might be a LITTLE homicidal, but no more so than some girls that get cheated on. Looking past that, we have a beautiful 58 Plymouth Fury. She can drive herself, heal damage, play you songs on the radio, and...kill your enemies. To some people that is a big plus. Plus lets talk about the extended scene and the book ending, whether you choose to picture the final battle verse a bulldozer or a giant pink truck named petunia, it is cannon that she survives. Any car that is still kicking after a fight with a bulldozer, and goes out of its way to take care of you, is at the very least worth a mention, plus, its just a really pretty car.

2. The Delorian - Back to the future

Kind of a gimme, a flying car that travels through time. I know that in the movies it never has fuel and that is ALWAYS a big problem, but off screen doc uses it just fine most of the time. Sure it doesn't talk to you, but it has a flux capacitor man! You can go anywhere, it doesn't even need roads. Once it got the Mr. Fusion, it runs on trash too, which is just economical. Plus the rest of these may be cool, but no other car is leaving awesome flame tracks whenever it gets floored.

3. The gadget mobile - Inspector Gadget

From van into police car, the gadget mobile could transform. It had so many gadgets it is hard to list them all but a few notables are a rocket engine, extending wheels, ejector seats, extendable claws, and caltrops. It is also completely voice activated. So it is equal parts, transformer, bond car, and KITT. Plus being able to change into a police car has all its own advantages, just ask the blues brothers.

4. Herbie - Herbie the love bug

Number 53, Herbie probably has the most soul in this list. While most people picked there car, Herbie went out and picked a driver, one that he didn't even need. The 63 deluxe pearl white Volkswagen has control over its entire body, opening its own doors and and even able to spit oil on people. Sporting a porsche super 90 engine, and enough speed to win races, not only does Herbie win as a car, but has shown that he wins as a friend too.

5. James Bond's Aston Martin - Goldfinger

James bond's first car is almost as useful as 007 himself. The DB5 was heavily upgraded having guns, oil slicks, bullet proof shields, ejector seats, revolving license plates, tire slashing hub caps, and even radar. It set the standard for cool spy cars and most movies have shamelessly made pale imitations of it. It was a good car to start with, but becoming the swiss army knife of the spy trade as well as a lady magnet certainly helped quite a bit.

6. The Batmobile - Batman

The first question is probably, which one? The answer is, does it matter? Every single Batmobile is one of the coolest cars ever made. From rockets, to domed windshields, to fins, its always a great design. Later incorporation of a turbine engine didn't hurt it much either. With full armor, as many gadgets as Batman himself has, full integration with the bat computer, pop out guns, bladed hub caps, ability to separate into a smaller car, and the ability to drive itself to wherever Batman happens to need it, its impossible not to mention. I would have to list features for three paragraphs, but along with all those features, almost every Batmobile also firmly establishes a new sense of cool, witch i think is a big feature in and of it self.

7. The Mach Five - Speed racer

Arguably the best race car ever, it has jacks that boost the car, special grip tires that let it drive upside, rotary saws that come out of the front, a powerful deflector shield that is bullet and crash proof, special illumination to see through any conditions, an underwater mode with a periscope and its own oxygen supply, and a homing robot. Also, its damn fast. Most common thing heard while driving the Mach five? The Mach Five wins.

8. KITT - Knight rider

Virtually indestructible, KITT is a contender for being the smartest car on this list, able to hold actual conversations and possessing artificial intelligence. Rocking a full entertainment system and video game arcade he can also run computer programs.

Self driving, slightly humorous, with a molecular bonded shell plating that allows him to be bullet broof, you need rockets to phase kitt, and most times that didn't even hurt his body, just internal circuits. Another added bonus of the coating is fireproofing and shock proofing, in case taking rockets wasn't enough.

He is rocket boosted to jump in the are, and times out at a 4.286 second car, hitting 0-60 in 2 seconds. Equipped with a rediculous amount of sensors to see almost everything superman can plus more, and being the only car here able to run silently, the oil jets, tear gas, grapling hooks, flame throwers, flares, and electrocution modules seem like over kill. He has multiple ways to increase traction...basicly just think an entire crime lab mixed with a media center, mixed with a military base...kit by far has the most features of any car ever.

9. Optimus Prime - Transformers

Technically Optimus counts because he is a truck, he just also happens to be a giant super intelligent robot that is one of the most advanced pieces of technology anyone has every known. Fully sentient and wise, able to upgrade himself into a maximus version of even more heavy metal bad assery, and able to integrate with the command matrix, he is one of the few Primes left. If all the upgrades, sentience, humanoid robotic form, weaponry, and flight modes weren't enough though, he also goes faster because they painted flames on him. What? I'm 12.

7 of the worst fantasy movie villains to fight: War of the bad guys

Which villains are on the top of the fantasy pecking order? After yesterdays Talk about fantasy adventure parties and in the spirit of the biggest giant monster we wanted to make a list of the 7 fantasy movie villains we wouldn't ever want to face, that might give our party some trouble. In the usual shoot out style, a list was compiled and then argued down, each justification is up to the advocate who draws it. The movie has to be considered fantasy, and contain a decent amount of fantasy themes or characters.

1. Darkness - Legend

Have you heard this one? How many unicorns does it take to turn off the sun?

Darkness has to be one of the most intimidating villains to ever appear, as a massive living embodiment of darkness, evil, and refinement. Although physically intimidating, standing at least 9 feet tall, with giant horns, hooved feet, and a sword the size a person, a lot of his power is drawn from demonic magic, including fire balls and teleportation.

His arguably most dangerous factor is his charisma though, commanding underworld cohorts and corrupting those around him, he uses charm as much as fear and shows a great deal of intelligence.

A villain among villains, he doesn't want to rule the world, no, he wants to destroy the sun and plunge the entire world into darkness so he has absolute power in it, despite what that might do to the world itself. Equally deadly with weapons, magic, and words, he is the worst type of enemy to face, and his command of the underworld is only hinted at, how many minions he actually has is never seen.

2. Voldemort - Harry potter

His evil is as plain as the nose on his...damn

It is hard to be the scariest guy in a world full of wizards and magical beasts, to get your own name erased from every day conversation. Voldemort not only mastered dark magic, along with most forms of magic due to magical genius. He also managed to secure near immortality and raise a vast army of truly evil beings including all the outcast monsters. Able to hide and manipulate better than almost anyone, you can't trust anything around you once Voldemort sets his sights on you.

He raised the bar in wizard capabilities, becoming a human lie detector, able to posses animals and corpses for disguise, mastering the unforgiving curses to instantly kill people, and other tricks like wandless magic. Plus he is lacking the humanity that would normally stop someone from shooting people dead with a curse, his psychopathic ways aid him in a ruthless pragmatism about anything that gets in his way.

With raw magic power, horcruxes to stay alive, the giant army of evil, and a complete lack of humanity, fighting Voldemort is something that takes decades to handle, and even then victory is the long shot.

3. Sauron - Lord of the rings

"The eyes are the windows to the soul."

Before transformation, Sauron was a giant imposing mace wielding lieutenant, casting illusions to turn the tide of battle. Taking over islands and filling them with werewolves to feed prisoners to, that sort of thing. After setting up in Mordor he devised the rings and got the elves to make them after making his one ring, killed the elves and passed them out to all the leaders of humanity. After effectively turning the Kings into the ring wraiths, he managed to turn his next attackers into unwitting pawns and used the Numonoreans to attack the elves.
It took two elf kings to kill his physical body and that still didn't stop him, his spirit remained with the ring. While some less informed sites may state he was just a floating eye, he won over powerful people as that eye and built an orc army with capabilities far beyond any normal army of orcs, he also created the ring wraiths, and killed whole kingdoms full of people using kingdoms he wanted out the way, that goes far beyond stabbing a hobbit.

With genius plans, flawless manipulations, countless mental and magical powers to the point of reality warping, and knowing how to use those things to create super powered guards and armies. If you fight Sauron, you are basically fighting everyone, even half of your allies. I mean, he IS the lord of the rings.

4. The White Witch - Chronicles of Narnia

Cause horses don't eat enough people

This beauty with her ice blue eyes, has a coldness few can match. Entirely ruthless, and responsible for bringing evil to Narnia itself, she is forever crafting plans. The moment she seized power she plunged the entire place into a never ending winter. All standing against her will die, she takes no prisoners, and is psychopath obsessed with only power.

She is physically bordering on super powered in terms of strength, speed, and beauty. A veteran of hundreds of wars, her swordsmanship is unmatched on the field. She can read and control minds and uses telekinesis. If complete control over ice including the ability to preserve herself in it for as long as she wants making her functionally immortal wasn't enough, she can also turn people to stone, or on a particularly bad day, dust.

She uses her beauty, deep magic, formidable fighting skills, and charisma to amass armies and take thrones. Then she crushes all those under her, which in her estimation, is everyone. The best way to describe her is an avalanche of evil.

5. Queen Bavmorda - Willow

Stab her, right in the baby

The ruler of Tir Asleen takes evil to the next level. After seducing and killing her way to the throne and then killing anyone mentioning that she might have killed her way there, she built an army and started consolidating power. A prophecy said a baby might be her downfall, so she steals all the pregnant moms and decides to kill all the babies, but not only kill babies, she also wants to make sure all their souls are banished forever in a nether world, because screw babies.

When one gets away, she doesn't send one guy, she sends every guy she has to go kill that baby. While only boasting dark magic, and an army, and a metric ton of crazy and ruthlessness, it is worth noting that magically she not only beats, but damn near humiliates everyone trying to use magic against her. When an army comes to take her out, she matter of factly turns them all to pigs, including her own daughter.

Given her military reach, and that no one put up a credible magic fight with her, mixed with a complete lack of any sense of morals, the only one who could have taken out Bavmorda was Bavmorda. She deserves to be on the list, hell, she deserves to be on it twice if you are a baby.

6. Malificent - Malificent

"I am sure it DID get lost in the mail, just one more thing..."

Malificent doesn't even bother to hide. They decide not to invite her to a dinner party, and she appears in the middle of it out of thin air, takes out a room full of guards in seconds, and then asks them why. Her magical ability is ridiculous, even in the fairy world, and she is carrying around a heart turned to stone. Able to drop curses on people that other sorceresses can't undo, armed with a genius level intelligence.

She has been able to use magic for whatever she sees fit, teleporting, moving around fire, shooting electricity, creating frost storms, looking into the future, and even creating an entire magical forest of thorn bushes to lock up a castle. Her magical power level makes some movie wizards look laughable. If that wasn't enough, she can always just turn into a giant dragon to breathe acidic fire and become immune to conventional weapons.

Recently revamped some to add more sympathy, we are choosing to ignore the ret-con for the moment, in the world of bad ass ladies, Malificent the Mistress of All Evil, is the lady to beat.

7. The nothing - Never ending story

Possibly the ultimate fantasy villain, the manifestation of disbelief itself, the imagination eater. It erases all that it touches, and pulls all into looking at it. The real kicker is that you don't even just erase, you become a lie in the real world. Its powers are vast as it is the flat out eater of fantasy worlds. I can't describe it, because any description would be something, and that would be wrong.

If that bummed you out too hard, Blue has a little trivia to help cheer you up. The empress is named Moon Child, it is in the book, so now you can fight the nothing too.

7 Fantasy Characters you need on your adventure

On an epic quest, who would you want by your side? We here at GeekyLists recently got asked what we had against fantasy, nothing. So in the spirit of showing love to our fantasy fans, we decided to try to make the ultimate party for a fantasy adventure. The rules are simple, one character per movie, any fantasy movie is in play as long as it is sword and sorcery, justification is up to the advocate, and the goal is to end up with a fully balanced dungeons and dragon type party, so personality is also a factor. Without any more distractions, let us head off.

1. Gandalf - Lord of the rings - Wizard


What did Jack just say?

The wizard of all wizards, the wisest finger wiggler I could find. I think Gandalf is kind of a given, he can take a Balrog and awaken ancient creatures. I would put Gandalf up against any wizard and pound for pound you are not getting the power, the presence, or the chill. World shattering magical power aside, Gandalf is also extremely laid back by most wizard standards.
Instead of brow beating the rest of the party, he would more than likely be off puffing on his pipe somewhere. He also reserves judgement and is generally accepting as long as someone means well, so I think even wizards that may have the power he does, just flat don't have the niceness or the cool. I welcome any other wizards to test themselves against him, but I think we all know how many will pass...

2. Hermoine Granger - Harry Potter - Sorcerer


Bro, Do you even leviOsa?

Ok first, I know according to the story Hermoine is a wizard, but one look at your average hogwarts wizard lunch will tell you those kids are charisma based. They also don't memorize spells ahead of time, and generally don't use that wide a variety of spells. Why not Harry you may ask? simple, Hermoine is the stronger magician, and bails out the other two a lot.
She might be a little annoying because she is a bit of a know it all, but she makes up for it by usually being right because...shes a know it all. Aside from that she shows a lot of empathy and in contrast to some of the other sorcerers I looked at, she doesn't let her power corrupt her. I think the inherit sense of team work she brings to the group is almost as useful as the magic.

3. Conan - Conan the barbarian - Barbarian

He is headed places, (sorry, that pun was bad)

When all else fails, feed them to Conan. He is notable as being as team oriented as he is deadly, in a world of too wild or hard to contain wild barbarians, he shows guile and strategy. Combining that with a giant sword and enough brute strength to literally crush his enemies, I don't see any other melee fighter taking this spot.
He can sneak, he can improvise, and when the time is right, he can yell to the heavens and cut a person in two. He is just pure raw hack and slash power on top of everything else. Anyone trying to get in the way of Conan is basically just begging him to hear the lamentations of their women.

4. Jack Sparrow - Pirates of the Caribbean - Rogue


Why do we have a compass that only points at Hermoine?

Jack Sparrow is the ultimate rogue, even Jack Sparrow doesn't know exactly how he is going to pull things off, and yet, he does. Good with a blade, better with the rum, his constant inventiveness and ability to spring fatal traps without doing so fatally brings a whole lot of value to the group.

He can also run a ship, which is a big plus to an adventuring party, as well as being able to play the very big picture as deftly as the small. The amusing antics and the constant witty retorts are just flavoring on top of a very good meal.

5. Sir Didymus - Labyrinth - Paladin


The noble face of bravery

I saw all the eye rolls when I mentioned Sir Didymus, but then I made a lot points. Sir Didymus is fearless, completely, he fought every time with all he had without wavering in the slightest. He even got the best of Bluto, who is easily 20 times his size. He never broke his code, and even when facing 40 enemies, he offers to let them surrender. He also has his own mount and can proficiently charge attack with it to devastating degree.

In a world almost completely controlled by a goblin king, with ARMIES against him, one small fox-terrier said no, one knight chose chivalry, and that knight took on all comers. That is Sir Didymus. On an adventure, having someone immune to fear effects, who will fight no matter what to the last breath, and never stop trying to save his party, ever, is a huge boon. He is a bit of a wild card, I can't see anyone 100% sure that Sir Didymus and Ambrosius COULDN'T pull off whatever they really needed to, and that is why he is on the list.

6. Westley - The Princess Bride - Fighter

He'll probably kill you in the morning.

Delivering one of the best sword fights ever captured on film, Westley taking out Inigo Montoya also took out any doubt of anyone besting him with a sword. Using more styles and tactics than any one sword fighter should be able to know, his mix of intelligence and raw ability would make him the best sell sword in the history of sell swords.
A party with The Dread Pirate Roberts, is a party that does not lose sword fights. In an ocean of fighters, he stands out as the only one I have seen win a fight while actively paralyzed. His ability to hold on to life to the very last shred and then mount a comeback is legendary, a considerable foe even after being mostly dead all day.

7. Dorian - Wrath of the dragon god - Cleric

The face of being forced to play a cleric.

Had to resort to a dnd movie in order to get a cleric, there is none, what the hell fantasy movies? I guess no one want to play the cleric. He is neutral, likes Obaid-hi and he is kind of healy, hes also the highest level cleric (7!) I could find in a sword and sorcery setting, so...heres Dorian. This is not on me, this is on fantasy.

5 new sci fi series worth watching: best of 2015

GeekyLists decided to make a list of new Sci Fi shows for 2015 that have the chance to go the distance. Every year a lot of big swings are taken, but at the years end you can tell which shows have risen to the top. In that light we wanted to recommend the shows that we found to be watchable. We figured the superhero shows are getting enough love and as such this is treating them a sub genre. It was a pretty decent year for Sci Fi, and there are a few shows that have potential, but didn't quite win us over yet. Advocates are chosen at random, except that Blue (He is the one running the social media sites) insisted on speaking for Kill Joys. In random order, here are the shows.

1. iZombie

I wasn't expecting a lot with iZombie even though I liked the comic. When I say its a pleasure, I truly mean it. It is a zombie show without the usual outbreak and each character seems to have an interesting take that is totally justifiable about not turning the on switch to the apocalypse.
The writing is usually smarter than it has any right to be, and the characters are played in various endearing ways. It would almost seem a horror show but the titular characters are constantly using science in order to try to cure the virus and normally using the skills to aid in the main plot.
It is lighter in the science fiction department than the other entries, but the tone, characters, and dialog put it firmly on the watchable list. One of the stand outs is that the main supporting character allows the situation to continue out of a greater duty to science. Also as a music geek, I want to give it extra points for the soundtrack.

2. Dark Matter

Admittedly, The comic based show Dark Matter starts a little slow, but it has to. The first few episodes are setting up and feel a little stiff and ambiguous, this gives the impression of bad writing. Once you see the character dynamics growing a few episodes in you realize it was actually good writing in that they are a little stiff and ambiguous because they don't actually know each other, and all the set up was because it has more story than most shows.

Once it gets set up though, a lot of character development happens and the universe starts growing beyond the ship. The tone becomes reminiscent of Firefly in a good way, and the plots become more about delving into who they were vs who they are now, which makes for great episode variation and development.

Each character has their own set of twists and turns ahead of them, and the sub plots are each one finding their role in the group, which is setting up the entire series to be great. With a healthy dose of technology, space ships, gun fights, and even some martial arts fights, it is a very decent show that is only going to get better.

3. Sense 8

Sense 8 has a few pieces of advanced tech, but for the most part it takes place in the present. The Science Fiction comes from the strength of the concept of shared minds itself. I have heard a few people discount it because of the homosexual and the alternative lifestyle tones, but I think that is one of the strongest story devices, having to share thoughts with people completely unlike you.

The characters in Sense 8 feel real in a way that only the creator of Babylon 5 can do, they are flushed out to the point of feeling like it is a documentary that suddenly gets extremely interesting. Despite myself I found I was worrying and even in some cases genuinely rooting for each character and the group as a whole. The genius built into the story engine is that it makes it very believable that someone is going to be in a very bad situation and hopefully someone else is going to try to save the day almost constantly.

If you add in the interactions played completely straight that end up being hilarious new facts of life for those involved, and that the emotional story is treated with the same masterful deftness as the external plot mechanics, you can see why it was made. The level of craftsman ship in this show as a whole is staggering, it is the show that most shows try to be, and sadly usually fail at.

4. Humans

Humans is a bit more drama than usual, and it may not be the cup of tea for more adventure/action palettes. That being said, it is provocative in that it brings up a lot of questions about humanity as a whole. The sub plot of the robot uprising and the future gadgets fill out the science quota nicely. It is worth the watch in the old twilight zone sense of the world, more often than not you end up asking yourself questions about how you interact with the world.

The psychological turn that the story takes delves into what it might actually be like when faced with artificial humans. If you are into the darker side of human nature and the struggle to be treated humanely, than this show delivers completely. The undercurrents of revolution add an occasional punch up of the action and intrigue.

Overall it is an intriguing show to follow, the tone seems to be brightening a little and the pacing seems to be speeding up, which is pushing the entire show into the great category.

5. Killjoys

Killjoys takes a pretty simple premise, bounty hunters in space, and over delivers to a ridiculous degree. It is everything you want in a traditional Sci Fi action/adventure/drama show, they check all the boxes. Crew full of complex lovable rogues with a higher purpose, check, awesome space ships, futuristic gadgets and weaponry, check, interesting sets and planets to explore, check, never ending slew of colorful characters showing up, check, deep seated mysteries and long game plots, check.

I think Killjoys has the potential to stick around for the long haul, besides the above reasons stated, it has tapped into two very key things. First, Every episode builds the world more and adds depth to the universe as a whole, most of the time in a meaningful lasting way and not just a one shot kind of look at this way. Second, It is as character driven as it is plot driven, this is a story about good characters that happen to be kill joys that also happen to be in an awesome universe surrounded by cool places playing with cool toys, and that serves the role of being totally accessible.

It deals with humanity and loyalty and relationships, and manages to do it far far away from any anvils or soapboxes. You show up for the explosions and the kung fu, but you end up staying because you know what it is like to worry about your brother. It isn't just a Sci Fi show worth watching, but instead just a good show that also happens to be Sci Fi. As if that wasn't enough it is sprinkled with the little touches only people really pushing for the extra points delve into, with quotable lines, floating heads, and ships having a thing for people. I mean who doesn't want to flirt with a ship?

Which stories helped shaped the Sci Fi genre? After reading Our sci fi gadgets list and our Facts about darth vader, our long time supporter from twitter @StumpmeisterUK (feel free to show him love, he is a great guy) suggested an article on influential Science Fiction classics. we decided to delve in at GeekyLists HQ and sort out the most influential Sci Fi stories. After compiling a list of over a hundred titles, we decided that the books and TV shows would be eventual later posts. Narrowed down to just films for now, this list is still probably going to be our biggest. The amount of begging, pleading, trading and arguing was truly a spectacle, but we ended up hashing it out, for the sake of sanity and article length, the 4000 word arguments have been edited down to highlights. We also decided because every movie on this list has a crazy amount of awards, we were just going to let that lie. So without any more hesitation, we give you the most game changing Sci Fi movies.

1. 2001: A Space Odyssey

Few Sci Fi movies can match the realism of 2001, Everything was handled right, down to what noises you could hear, all the way to HAL, and the way HAL does things. Following Carl Sagans advice not to show aliens but suggest the super intelligent beings. The technological designs have been reused constantly and even the iPad or Samsung tablets some of you are reading on are shamelessly stolen from the idea in the movie.

The filming techniques Stanley kubrik pioneered were later used in star wars and blade runner. Features one of the most terrifying villains in a movie, and since HAL has influenced almost every robot design since. The praise from the other film makers on this list is such that it is the best of the best, and that no one can top it.

2. Star Wars

First point right off the bat, I can't remember a single day of my life I haven't heard a star wars quote, or seen a reference, its so common that being a huge star wars fan is a character archetype now. It inspired an entire generation of people to embrace science fiction and try to make there own. Even non science fiction creators are huge fans that credit it as an influence. It is credited from popularizing the hero's journey format again.

It also popularized block buster films, all those giant showy special effects we all love so much, thanks star wars. The special fx boom that followed was brought to you by the force. Plus genre mixing, It popularized pulling from multiple genres to make a stronger story, so all the action comedy, space western, fantasy epic type movies. Yeah Darth Vader did that for you. It also created the film trilogy model and proved that a merchandising model could be profitable, hello toys and shirts, so it modernized the fandoms everyone rallies together with now. You KNOW you have had a lightsaber fight, yes, I want a real one too.

Technologically it influenced holographic video, bionic limbs, and even the weapons and vehicles are finding their way into real life.

3. Metropolis

Metropolis is the oldest sci fi movie here, but is considered a father to all science fiction, It introduced the ideas of world building. Giant sets were constructed and tons of extras employed, It aimed to pull you directly into the future. It was the first science fiction movie to use an alternate reality as a form of real social commentary as well.

The designs in this movie actually influenced every other movie on this list heavily, openly acknowledged by the creators themselves. C3PO is a clone of the Machine-Man in this movie. The city in blade runner emulated the future city designs.

Any Science Fiction not influenced to it, is only because it is influenced by a movie that was influenced to it. It is still showing up in design and ideology today, almost a century later.

4. Alien

Alien is credited with using science ficture in order to solve a lot of horror movie problems. You can't run away on a space ship, and the xenomorphs are the perfect monster, all the attributes are designed into one big list of you are dead. It showed that Sci Fi heroes could be female and still action heroes.

The industrial grit in the designs and the universe has been noted to possibly share a universe with Blade Runner by Ridley Scott so influence is split, but it is still a landmark for the design and the design of real feeling truly terrifying monsters. It also gets credit for introducing the working man side of space travel, were not everyone is a scientist or a criminal and ships are more like vehicles.

It is also the namesake for the "Save the Cat" moment, in screenwriting, so it has made all the protagonists using it since more likeable. The idea of taking a B movie idea and executing it as an A movie has risen from this very film.

Xenomorphs and the ships and bases that followed are a gold standard in scary for Sci Fi. The organic industrial design was pioneered for alien, and remains a creepy staple to this day.

5. Frankenstein

When Frankenstein came out, it was Sci Fi, thats why he is Frankensteins monster, They didn't even credit Boris Karloff, and Dr. Frankenstein is the main focus of the story. What Frankenstein did is show that the monster/alien itself can be the best part of the movie. Before that the science fiction elements were seen more like stage props that lived. The idea of giving screen time to the other worldly stuff got solidly proven here, and started a new age of exploring the less human side of the stories.

6. Blade Runner

The set designs met with the entire dystopian future setting makes blade runner influential in that the view of the future isn't always lofty. The special effects are considered some of the best of all time, using multipass exposures and mainly practical effects. Production and design wise it is a monster of influential shots.

Any noir type Science Fiction is compared to it, because every movie in that genre is drawing from it. It has so many guesses in the future that turned out accurate, the money of corporations taking power and influence, how the lack of connection between characters can make a new kind of connection with an audience.

Blade Runner left a big foot print and its doubtful that any one is going to fill its shoes. It forged a blue print for cyber punk and showed that blueprint in the cinematic equivalent of a beautiful moving fine art painting.

7. Le Voyage Dans La Lune

Sometimes things get a little crazy, and Le Voyage did it in all the right ways. It used so many experimental techniques and dystopian themes that have been brought into the present. It also employed looped narrative and story telling over multiple periods of time. It introduced a tool set that is still used today for time travel stories, you know how most people love the time loop episodes in a show? Thank Levoyage Dans La Lune. It is listed as a major influence to many actual story telling styles in science fiction, not just science fiction films.

8. The Matrix

The matrix was an influence in that science fiction hadn't pushed action before. It showed the world that if you add super science to an action film, you end up with a hybrid that makes both sides of the genre stronger, whether it is a good action movie with excellent science fiction elements, or an excellent Science Fiction movie with the best action scenes that have been seen becomes immaterial.
It raised the bar for battles in Sci Fi, and for experimental shots, and at least for the original it showed that you don't always have to underestimate the audience.

9. The day the earth stood still

Klattu is the icon for more benevolent aliens, that some aliens may actually be nicer than humans. While Gort acted as a silent enforcer to add credence to klattu's claims, he largely meant well and tried to warn the world to be more peaceful. It aslo was the debut of using a theremin in a sound track, Cheesy seeming now, it is still a staple in Sci Fi parody and went on to inspire the theme song for star trek.

It also might be the widest known example of "Humans are the real monsters." And "Klattu Barada Nikto" would go on to aid Bruce Campbell in fighting the army of darkness. So this film literaly saved Bruce Campbell.

10. Westworld

Westworld not only introduced modern day artificial intelligence to films, but also showed the idea of the big bad corporation, 23 years before soylent green ran with it. Delos was the first giant corporation that valued money over people as business model.
John carpenter cited the robot walk for Michael Myers, which means by transference of the unstoppable killer angle, West world had a hand in creating the entire slasher flick genre.
The core concept was actually revisited and turned into Jurassic Park, another movie on this list. Westworld it contains the first computer digitzed image in a movie as well. It crossed three genres with its area of influence and technically all movies with any GGI.

11. Jurassic park

While many other movies went overtly electronic, Jurassic park went a road less traveled with gentic engineering, by mixing the genres of Sci Fi, Action, and Thriller, it is largely hailed as one of the greatest of each of those genres.
The computer generated visual effects would go on to effect the star wars prequels, as well as getting other directors to make films such as Ai, and lead to The Lord of the Rings, King Kong, and Godzilla to be made.
It also just set new movie experience standards across the board and forced all following movies to try to be bigger visually.

12. Superman the movie

This was the first time a comic book super hero floated off the pages into cinema. It proved there was a market and is responsible for every other super hero comic movie that has been made. At the time it was considered Science Fiction and has since grown into its own genre, or sub genre if you prefer. The large scale visual effects are all done pre digital age, and used enormous models.
Next time you are comparing comic book movies and shows, without Supermans first movie, you should realize that you would be arguing over paper comics that most people didn't know and getting picked on for your superman shirt.
It also allowed for more super powered protagonists to show up and how to handle them so they were still accessible.

13. Solaris

Solaris is probably the most art house film, and I think that is part of why it made the list. The film had a dream like quality and the focus is more on the internal dealings of Kelvin as he tries to make sense of what Solaris is doing to him.
It influenced Science fiction in showing that sometimes it is ok to leave fx and monsters out of the loop and instead explore the mind. Sometimes watching a complex concept unfold and be related thought he lense can be as riveting as blowing up a planet, or at least as resonant.
Most other film makers regard it with a sense of artistry, and it has been implicated in the deepening of Science Fiction characters in other movies ever since.

14. Forbidden Planet

With Robbie the robot being king among robotic looking robots until Star Wars two decades later. Watching Forbidden Planet will feel very familiar to most people, this is due to how heavily it was copied in the making of Star Trek. Including the exploration of colonies, the sexy girls, the phasers...etc. The entire movie was created from scratch and basicly gave birth to the entire Star Trek franchise.

7 Dark secrets about Darth Vader: Fun Vader Facts

With all of us waiting for star wars, Darth Vader has been on the mind. We were discussing little known things about our favorite star wars characters and noticed there is a lot of trivia that isn't more common knowledge about Darth Vader. We decided to make and article to share some of these fun facts about Lord Vader in service to the dark side.

1. Darth Vader is fatherless, rumored to be birthed from the force. According to Shmi Skywalker, he has no father. This rumor is semi confirmed by him fulfilling the chosen one prophecy by restoring balance to force when destroying Emporer Palpatine.

2. Most of the time, darth vader is acutally speaking gibberish. After David Prowse learned his lines were replaced by James Earl Jones, he gave up learning them and resorted to improvising lines and sometimes spouting gibberish at the actors. The had to respond as if he had said the lines and act as if he had said the correct line. Due to how many bridges Prowse burned criticizing lucas, he is banned from all LucasFilm events and conventions.

3. Vader has lost an arm three times on film, and the most limbs of any human character, in a tie again with c3po. The time that Luke does it is inspired by the expanded universe book, Splinter of the Mind's Eye. The book was intended as a sequel but was later abandoned.

4. George lucas wanted Orson Welles for his voice originally, and only went with James Earl Jones because he was lesser known. The sound tests were too recognizable with Welles voicing the role. They had to ask James Earl Jones three times to give him a credit because he did not believe he contributed enough to be considered an acting role, he considered it sound effects, and isn't credited until return of the jedi. Even then, the breathing sounds are actually from Ben Burt.

5. The actors didn't even know he was lukes father until the premiere. Except for Mark Hammil and James earl Jones who had to speak the over dubs. The lines heard on the set where "Obi-Wan killed your father." So all the crew and actors believed that to be the story. The Iconic line "Luke, I am your father." is a misquote as the line that was hidden is actually, "No, I am your father."

6. He is the only character that appears (alive) in all six films, besides the droids. Obi-wan manages to make an appearance in the last two movies as a force ghost, but that is it, all other actors aren't in all the movies. Even so his screen time is remarkably low in most of the movies.

7. Anakin Skywalker and Darth Vader were originally completely different characters. When George Lucas stated he had 9 movies outlined, it was a bluff, he had things worked out, but a lot changed considerably. Vader only became Luke's father and merged with Anakin in the second draft when developing with Leigh Bracket.

8. His trademark helmet was originally designed only for space travel, and he was intended to wear a black silk scarf over his face. After seeing the helmet designs from Ralph McQuarrie it was decided that Vader would not remove his helmet. The design draws from samurai as well as Nazi designs in order to achieve it intimidating look.

Some gifts are bad, others are pure evil. We here at GeekyLists have a tradition of giving each other the worst geek presents, it started as an accident and then soon evolved into a kind of evil game. If you have close geek friends that you like to torture, we would humbly like to suggest these gift options. There is nothing better than someone awkwardly receiving a gift they hate and pretending to like it for your benefit, for extra credit you can ask about it until mid January. Remember to lose the receipts and when at all possible get it on sale so returns are a nightmare. The day of posting this is cyber monday, a perfect day...for evil.

1. Accessories and games for a system they don't own.

This one is hilarious, if they are an x-box one fan, get them bad ps4 games or vice versa. Be sure to tell them that one of your other friends said the game was amazing, and offer to come over and play it with them. If you can get it off genre as well, like rpg's for fps guys, it adds salt to the wound. The finisher is if they say they own the other system, give them a a look that says, "Why?"

2. The almost right fandom merchandise.

Same principle here, if you know a super die hard Star Wars fan, get them a phaser. If they are a Star Trek fan, get them a lightsaber. It has to look like you tried though, and almost got it right. This can work for almost any fandom, but is best if they hate a spin-off or a version and you get them something from exactly that spin-off.
Be sure to say a quote from it, and act like a big fan of the series. This also works with getting them something for the almost right character depending on how die hard they are. If they are nuts about Sam, getting them something with Dean can be a brutal judo chop to the right person.

3. A hated film adaption of their favorite book or comic, or the book of their favorite movie.

Nothing makes a die hard fan angrier than getting the source material wrong in the movie. Extra points if you point out that you got it because you know they love the book/comic so much.

If someone isn't a reader, giving them a book they might try to get through is its own form of torture. Extra points for saying how much more detail the book has, and how they didn't explain your victims favorite character nearly enough in the movie.

4. A dubbed version of an anime for an otaku who only likes subtitles.

This sets up a sophies choice of watching the anime they love with all the wrong voices. Or ignoring it and taking up space in their collection.

Be sure to ask about it now and then so trading doesn't seem like a option. Even more bonus points if you pronounce the name wrong, and say catch phrases or stupid lines you know the dubbing added.

5. Slightly off brand merchandise.

Finding a knock off that is just close enough is an atom bomb of a move. You can act like it's real, and if you sell it, they know its wrong, but don't want to offend you. Think cartoon t-shirts with the characters wearing the wrong colors or holding the wrong weapon. Maybe something with the wrong catch phrase underneath it. This one hurts the most when its the closest you can get to being real, While still having that one fatal flaw to fans of it. Bonus points for talking about the flaw like its actually in the franchise. No link for this one, usually discount stores are a gold mine though, flea markets too.

6. The censored version of an album they like.

Nothing is sweeter than watching someone get excited about a cd for a band they are liking, only to later find out that half of it is censored. This one has the added benefit of going off days later, hopefully after they already synced it up with their players.

7. The brand new game.

This one only really surfaces for PC gamers, but generally if you are super into computers, you talk specs with your friends. Knowing these specs you can get them a game they genuinely want, but can't play with their current hardware. Given that they spent all their money on Christmas presents, it can lead to a month of staring at a game they can't run. It is brutal, but in the war of bad presents, there is no mercy.

7 of the biggest (non cosmic) movie monsters: Giant monsters round up

We love giant monster, but how do the giant movie monsters we love compare? After our Slasher movie killer comparison, we wanted to figure it out here at GeekyLists and being giant monster geeks ourselves, we set to finding out. We decided to eliminate space dwelling monsters because of two reasons, first, the scale of them is in thousands of miles, and second, there just isn't enough data from creators, with most being giant versions of normal stuff in space. We here at GeekyLists felt that the monster part of giant monster was important, and we needed data to give the most accurate comparison we could. So without further hesitation, in no particular order:

1. Kraken - Clash of the titans - estimated 500ft (152.4m)

A living piece of Hades, trapped in the trenches of the ocean, out of fear from the Greek gods. Armed with a pair of tentacles, fully articulated hands, armor plating, a maw of razor sharp teeth, 4 legged clawed stance, and three sets of eyes, it deserves the fear it inspires.

Able to swim at incredible speeds due to the tentacles, they are also large enough to drag or smash ships and buildings easily. The Kraken estimates from 415 to 500 feet according to the movies creators. When you need a release, this guy gets Kraken.

2. Sando aqua monster - Star Wars: Episode 1 The Phantom Menace - 650 ft (200m) body length

The largest carnivorous mammal on Naboo. Sporting a heavily muscled but still nimble body, a huge gaping frog like maw to swallow things, giant finned claws and a long tail to help with propulsion. This yellow eyed contender has the second longest length in this list. It weighs in at an impressive 58,000 tons.

Given its size and density, neutral tan coloring with yellow eyes, and is capable jaws and claws, the Sando aqua monster is a predator to feared in deed. We also want to nominate it for most original name.

3. Slattern - Pacific Rim - 596ft (181.6 m) estimated

The first and only known category V kaiju. Seen to survive a nuclear bomb at point blank range, Slattern is the equivalent of fighting the devil. Boasting a trio of triple crowned tails able to peirce armor at mid range, spike like chest protrusions that can extend to inflict damage, two sets of eyes, three digit claws, a roar loud enough to damage environments, and highly resilient leathery scaled skin that serves as armor, make it physically an apex predator.

Of note is its demonstrated intelligence being very high, showing strategy and communication skills, and also its extremely light weight comparatively, it is estimated at 6,750 tons. It is also one of the few pacific rim monsters with a symmetrical facial structure, like that of a hammerhead shark. Slattern is a term for a promiscuous woman, its namesake comes from the remark when it was first seen, "That's a big bitch."

4. Godzilla - Godzilla - 355ft (108.2) tall, 550ft (167.7m) - tail length

Weighing in at 90,000 tons, with a size 888 shoe size, its the big nuclear mutant dinosaur himself. godzilla comes stock with a giant tail, nuclear blasts, huge mouth of razor sharp teeth, giant claws, and scaled skin adorned with protective spines. He is on the shorter side of things, but he is also one of the heaviest weighing here.

Godzilla is showing intelligence too, fully comprehending strategy, and has the benefit of having the most veteran list of battles on this list as well. All of these creatures are giant monsters, but only Godzilla would count as a giant monster with levels in fighter. The others may have taken out scores of people, but Godzilla has taken out scores of Godzilla sized monsters, which I think makes him the veteran of the group. When Godzilla orders a Manhattan, he holds the empire state building himself.

5. Smaug - 196.85 ft long (60m) with a 287ft(85m) wing span (Scientific estimate from pictures to scale)

The last "Great" dragon in middle earth. Smaug is also considered to be one of the richest fictional characters of all time, which we think should count for something, that's Tony Stark's super power. Physically, Smaug has flight, protective scales, fire breath, a massive mouth full of giant fangs, claws, wings large enough to buffet large gusts of wind.

One clear advantage that Smaug has is that he is by far the smartest monster, it isn't even close, he has a full and respectable command of the English language and understands complex thoughts, ideas, and systems. He readily uses this intelligence as well, he is not a wild animal, he is a psycho path driven mostly by greed. While being the lightest of the group, he would also be the genius and the only one capable of flight. Lake-town is the only place with a Smaug alert worse than Chinas.

6. Clover - Cloverfield - 350ft(106m) upright, 268ft(75m) on all fours, 1,200ft(225.6m) length

From the depths of the ocean, weighing in at 5,806.04 metric tons, with giant claws, a pitchforked finned tail, double jointed elongated front limbs, ear membranes, two external esophogi sporting teeth like projections, dropping sharp toothed parasites the size of dogs, and wearing highly resistant skin that is extremely heat and pressure resistant, I give you Clover.

The size is given for an infant, because a full grown version is not seen. It is said that survives the carpet bombing at the end of the film even, which later was retconned in director commentary, if you choose to go by that. The agility and flexibility in a monster this size is rare though, maybe because it is still a growing kid. I still haven't seen the full version, every one I get looks like a pirated cam version.

7. Sandworm - Dune - 1312ft (400m) long, 131ft(40m) diameter

From the sands of Arrakis, with giant flap opening maws, armored in many overlapped and interlocking scales, and with internal organs resembling massive blast furnaces, our final entry is the Sandworm. These worms submerge and generate lightning upon surfacing from the static they generate, the gaping maws able to swallow gigantic objects and incinerate them.

While less of a threat in most places on earth due to the extremely fatal reaction to water, these gigantic terrors could do some serious damage in the right desert, and are the only tunneling monster on our list. If you are ever out in a desert and start smelling cinnamon, leave immediately, these things killed beetle juice.

9 comic book movie adaptations that need love

In the spirit of our list on comics and the recent explosion of comic adaptions, we felt it was time to revisit some of the adaptions that the world just wasn't ready for, or had the unfortunate timing of releasing when the market was bad. These are the movies we always have to force people to watch, that everyone ends up liking. It is time to get them noticed for the fun and solid movies that they are. If you haven't seen any of these, you are missing out if you love comic style stories at all.

1. Mystery Men

Mystery Men is one of those movies that I am not sure what went wrong. It is legitimately fun, everyone in it did a good job. It's funny and smart. The pacing is good and the plot is decent.

The tone is a little campy, but in a deconstructionist way that is actually pretty entertaining. I even like the costumes and sets, and yet most non geeky people just sneer at it. At least it has grown to where more initiated people regard it with some entertainment value. I truly believe with the character dynamics, the over the top personalities and the decent effects, it is a decent movie that is worth the time to watch it.

2. The Losers

The Losers has some amazing acting in it, along with some truly funny dialog to back it up. The action scenes are done extremely well and the entire group dynamic pushes the whole story to the next level.

The plot is a tried and true standard action type plot, mixed with some of the strongest characterization I can name which combines into one of the most enjoyable action movies I have seen. I think one of the primary strengths is that it doesn't have anything detracting from it, I don't have any critiques as far as what they could have done better. I have forced at least 30 people to watch it, and I haven't had a single person not like it, most even quoting it from time to time.

3. Tank Girl

Tank girl is a movie that I always end up having to defend. It took risks and brang a very punk rock in your face attitude with strong commitment and that makes it a very easy target, but it also makes it a passionate love letter to the comic itself.

The design work shows hints of the expressive art styling in the comics, loud colors, and big shapes. The acting is big, loud and braggarty, which is Tank Girl to me. Critics love waving it off as an MTV generation overly loud piece of fluff, but I found it was spiritually in tune with the comic and the style choices reflect the style choices made by the comic.

That and I genuinely love the practical effects, and found a lot of the scenes funny because most of the jokes land perfectly, over all at the end of the day, if you watch it looking for a light and fun time, you will end up satisfied.

4. Scott Pilgrim

I think Scott Pilgrim wasn't widely accepted due to how fiercely it's indy rooted fan base claimed it as theirs. The effects and action in it are impressive, its smart, has a million quotable lines, and the entire movie start to finish feels like an adventure, one that pays off.

There isn't a weak performance in the entire movie, and the usually hand waved things (Like the bands music) exceed expectations, the video game effects are true to the source material and add humor and style to the visuals.

Above that, Scott Pilgrim is easy to relate to for a lot of fans because of the genuine personalities of characters that have real seeming problems, given that they also punch foes into coins and get extra lives, you can see the level of work that was put into it. It didn't get ignored as much as some of the others, but it deserved a lot more in my opinion.

5. Ghost World

Ghost world has amazing casting, truly great actors hide across this over looked movie. No super powers, and aside from a nun chuck to mop fight in a parking lot, and one tackle, no action. It does have the authentic feel of a small town full of very eccentric, but very real feeling people.

The balance of weird and authentic combines to tell a tale about the fringe of society that feels right and not forced. It's an honest take on people without a place trying to feel at home in a world that made it clear they don't fit. It hits the part of you that looked at the cool kids and knew you weren't going to be one.

The pain of rejection and the futile feeling that trying to fit in isn't an option come through with a clarity that only massive amounts of insight from writers and flawless acting could show. The most literary story this list, but it still takes you on a journey, an emotional one. Most avid comic book fans have never even heard of it.

6. Judge Dredd

Another movie I defend constantly is Judge Dredd, more so since Dredd came out as darker and grittier. I love 80's movies, Judge Dredd isn't as gritty as the comics, but is a master piece of excessive props and awesome plot twists.

Seeing a war bot come to life and the grand standing Rico wreak havoc is enough to make this movie popcorn fodder. Rob Schneider nailing the comic relief and the huge dystopian future setting is just a cherry on the top. It is one of the better action films from its time and it delivers on fun.

They pepper in ok jokes over the action to add even more. I rewatched it recently and it holds up. I never understood why so many people bashed it, and no ones ever articulated a reason to I agreed with. Shame that it flopped, I've never watched it with anyone that didn't enjoy it.

7.Dylan Dog

Yet another movie that I think most people never gave a chance. Dylan is a bit of a Constantine clone but that's half of the protagonists in the urban fantasy genre. He comes off a little dry but otherwise it is a strong performance, and the source material is good.

His comic relief partner having to cope with his new undead state, such as not necessarily having his own body parts from now on, is worth the watch. The action is decent, and as detective stories go it's on par, add cool magic and monsters and what you have is bonafide good way to spend 2 hours.

I made a few friends go watch it with me when it came out and the theater was deserted. After we agreed it was worth the ticket, even the concession guy agreed that it should have been packed. If you haven't seen it, its atmospheric in the bayou of Louisiana and just an all around decent watch.

8. Howard the Duck

If the other movies I defend are battles, than Howard the duck is the war. Yes, it is cheesy, yes, it is ridiculous, yes, the effects are dated, and yes, the acting is a giant sack of hams, BUT, it is still amazingly fun to watch. If you go in expecting an over the top and borderline parody movie, than Howard the duck is, dare I say, fantastic.

From threatening people with space rabies, to playduck the erotic duck magazine, it is truly so bad its good. I can't see a reason not to have a good time with this movie unless you made a decision not to have one, even just making fun of it is better than watching your average 3 star summer hit. It knew it went off the rails and just embraced it, and if you embrace it too, you will have a great time because there is a LOT of opportunities to laugh.

9. 2 Guns

2 guns is in the same category as the losers, there is literally nothing wrong with this movie. The dialog is good, the plot is strong, the acting is arguably some of both Denzel Washington and Mark Wahlbergs best, The gun fights are awesome, the villains are severe, and settings are well picked.

Not only does this over deliver on the action and raw explosion side of things, but it is genuinely funny, the back and forth between the duo is razor sharp and its a charismatic battle of titans every time they share the screen. The pacing is well done and there isn't a single lull, I honestly have no idea why this movie wasn't absolutely huge, I would put it above many of the other action movies released around it that out performed it.

The 9 most useful sci fi gadgets that are really gadgets

Every gadget discussion always includes weapons and vehicles and appliances, today we at GeekyLists say, "No more." We also wanted to base it on how having these things around would affect our lives. To narrow the playing field of literally tens of thousands of devices we decided on ground rules. They had to appear in a movie (I know, but books and comic books would make the list 50 items long), the express purpose could not be a weapon or armor, they cannot be a mode of transportation in time or space, they must be transportable in that they could fit in a back pack, and it couldn't be considered a character in its own right.

This disqualified almost every over used answer we had seen and thought was a cop out, except for the doctors sonic screw driver, which is over used and can apparently do anything handy, so it was excluded too, then we all readily agreed to the rules. The numbers are not a ranking and randomly selected.

1. The cloaking device from predator

I would argue that near invisibility is a much better option than complete invisibility for everyone. It has all the practical advantages of not being seen/recognized while on the run and at the same time it isn't perfect enough to make everyone paranoid all the time. At close range you can tell if someone was moving near you, but you could sit an observe things while still or at a distance. So it would be a lot more effective on animals and mindless things than on humans, so fun and research would get a bigger boost than crime. It lets you get into just the right amount of trouble and is still incredibly useful for tons of things. And you don't have to worry about if your friend has one.

2. The Pasiv Device from inception

I know in the movie it is used against people to subtly change there minds, and that might have a lot of valid uses, but I think it has many other advantages. You could compress time in order to figure things out, or extend deadlines for ideas you are working on, even a whole team of people could do this together. For limited runs you could visualize and manifest anything you where trying to work out.

I think they really dropped the ball on how this could be used to help fix people with phobias or trauma. It could help with addictions, rehabilitation, really any kind of therapy. Plus, it could just be fun, as far as entertainment value and being able to go on an adventure feels totally real except you can't die, sure its random, but even that sounds like part of the fun.

3. The tricorder from star trek

While technically there are three types of tricorders, they only really show a difference in the software between engineering and field, and the medical one has a detachable sensor probe for finer readings and is otherwise just a software change. We don't feel that its a big enough difference to count as three seperate gadgets because the technology is identical, the usage is the only thing that changes. It is a sensor array that checks a database and tells you what you are seeing. It is such a basic thing that the help it gives is constant, it can tell you what anything you find is, what is around you, how something is different than what it should be, or what illnesses are there that shouldn't be. It is basically a portable forensics lab mixed with wikipedia and a cellphone. Cell phones are actually just less useful tricorders, and everyone uses them constantly.

4. The point of view gun from hitch hikers guide

While it may not solve all arguments instantly, it would make them last 5 seconds. I like the idea of people seeing other perspectives and empathy, it solves one of the biggest problems we all face in our daily lives, and that is miscommunication. If you count up the amount of time you spend re-wording or trying to explain yourself, you can see why this would give you months of extra time a year.

5.The men in black neuralyzer

Assuming we all just focus on the more innocent applications of this. We all make mistakes, sometimes you say things you don't mean. The other uses of this though are completely lost in the films. It is possible to completely change a memory. Now this is useful if you want to erase a mistake, but it is even more useful if you want to add something. The vacation you never have time for, you just came back from it, it was super relaxing. Also the ability to erase something tragic and out of your control happening to you and replace it with say, getting covered in a blanket of kittens and then having ice cream, its pretty invaluable. The only problem is you would definitely need a de-neuralyzer handy to keep people honest.

6. Seeker droids from star wars

With ships, vehicles, weapons and armor out, and a lot of the universe not showing up in the movies, almost 80 things got taken off the table. Seeker droids might seem like a weak choice, but its really not. They are couriers as well as weapons, they fly, they stay single minded to just find someone. Search and rescue would be revolutionized, no shipping addresses ever, you would never have to worry about a package being intercepted, and instead of calling someone or packing a box, you could send anyone anything one could carry in an instant. Given the speed of them, the multiple uses, and the tech they employ, they would revolutionize a lot of different aspects of every day life for the better. Your day would be 4 times easier and twice as personal.

7. Translator microbes from farscape

At some point there had to be a universal translator, because the value of those is so apparent, but the Farscape version is completely internal and can get passed down to your kids. Whether or not it can be transmitted other ways is unknown, but I like the idea of a future where everyone can talk. If you were worried about a drunken encounter and you get a call from the free clinic, and it turns out you didn't get herpes but you don't need to take a foreign language for college anymore, I say that is a big win for the future.

8. Weyland Modular Computing Device from Prometheus

While the design may look like a painted rubix cube, it is stated that it can not only show recreations but work with sight sound and touch. What this cube becomes them is a portable holodeck. It is generations ahead of any other form of virtual reality. You could just drop a cube on the floor and be somewhere else. It isn't used to its full potential in the movie, but its wireless and works like a projector, so not only could you do everything a holographic relay could do, but you could essentially make it show anything you wanted with some editing, and actually feel whatever it showed you. Think of every vr application you have ever seen and then make it better, smaller, and portable.

9. Nano machines from Virtuosity

The nano machines can take any programmed avatar including animals, and build a regenerating real world body for it, it is 3d printing meets robotics on a cellular level. You could have a pet that never died, make laborers or trades men to do specialized skills. The possibilities are pretty endless, any real or fictional character could come to life in your house and interact with you. For that alone it is invaluable.

Who is your favorite zombie killing machine? We at Geeky Lists enjoyed our last horror movie debate so much that we decided to use the format again with our favorite zombie killing professionals. The rules were decided that only one character per franchise could be chosen, which actually lead to the exclusion of dawn of the dead due to having so many characters qualify that it warrants its own later post. The list itself was decided by the entire group, but each case is made by the advocate who draws them. The order of these zombie killing gods is completely random and not a rank. Light spoilers, we try to avoid them, but sometimes it is impossible to make a point without one.

1. El Wray - Planet terror

"El Wray has to be on this list, He never misses, and even though he never misses, he uses knives half the time. The raw skill of El Wray alone should put him here, but he is also equipped with some serious dialog and dramatic flair. He is likely to kill the ladies as he is to kill the zombies.

Not to mention he is the reason Cherry even has that machine gun leg, without El Wray she'd be the dead depressed girl that got eaten in the hospital. El Wray is a certified BAMF, dual wielding pistols and knives and clearing everything in his path, he kills whole hordes by himself, plus...cool jacket. He looked for it for two weeks." - Orange

2. Daryl Dixon - Walking dead

"Daryl is one of the few zombie killers that actually thrive in the post apocalypse. With his tracking and bow hunting skills, he can sustain himself indefinitely and silently kill as many zombies as he needs. He is a brutally pragmatic fighter that switches to all business when it is needed and wipes out whatever he has to.

He is also psychologically strong, he doesn't break down from the horrors of the world. He is deceptively clever and in tune with people, and has proven his own intuition is very strong.

He faced the end of modern civilization and still values things like truth, and integrity, enough to practice them. The fact that he is tough, deadly, capable and still CHOOSES to be a good person says just how ahead of the curve he really is. He worries a lot about survival, but its never his survival. That and according to all the girls on my facebook, he may be the sexiest zombie killer here." - Gray

"Tallahasee enjoys his job, he is so good at it that he has turned it into a game for himself. He not only kills zombies, but he tries to do it in new and fun ways. He is the Twinkie craving innovator of the art that is zombie killing, using banjo's, setting up situations, etc.

He has endless raw aggression towards the army of the undead, so much that uses them for entertainment, while still valuing human life and more or less caring about people. I think between the highly effective killing and the over all cool vibe that he exudes with his cocky attitude. He kills, he copes, he makes the zombie apocalypse fun for everyone, because not only does he survive, but he survives with a smile. He should be on this list with a bullet, then a banjo, and maybe hide around the door so you can kill it on the burst. Have to get that zombie kill of the week." - Purple

4. Ben - Night of the living dead

"The original zombie killing bad ass, Ben was able to keep his head about him through most of the encounter. Not afraid to smack the people around him when he had to, he tried his best to keep everyone alive. While others had the benefit of foresight and being able to think about the situation, Ben was just an average guy that had to improvise and make it all up as he went along, he chose not to be scared. That decision made every one else on this list.

I mean the fact that he punched a white woman in the early 60's shows that Ben didn't have a lot of fear in him to start with. He adapted to the situation at hand and handled it He didn't let harry throw him to the wolves, and stopped to think as much as he put plans into action.

He didn't even know if zombies could be killed or how to do it, but he figured it out and then got the job done. He may not have survived the movie, but he has lived on through every Ben shaped character after him. Now get the hell down in the cellar, you can be the boss down there, but Ben is the boss up here!" - Blue

5. Alice - Resident evil

"You get what you pay for, and umbrella corporation has deep pockets. Alice is engineered into one of the most lethal over the top zombie killers ever created. Alice doesn't fight zombies so much as she fights cities of zombies, plus genetically engineered zombie animals, plus super charged zombie monstrosities. She is the definition of over kill when it comes to a zombie situation.

She can salvage weapons, she can use almost every weapon due to the most intense operative training. She is telekinetic, and grew into a super human. Knives, guns, swords, motorcycles, explosions, you name it, she kills zombies like the internet makes cat pictures. All while looking incredibly sexy to top it off." - Yellow

6. Lionel Cosgrove - Dead Alive

"Lionel Cosgrove is a legend. He just wanted to take care of his mum. He doesn't even really like conflict, but when it finds him, he is exactly the right mix of creative and driven. Anyone can stab a zombie, and alot of zombie killers have training and fall back on tons of combat skills. One truth in horror movies is widely apparent though. When Lionel Cosgrove asks you to leave, if you are a zombie, you are leaving one way or the other.

This is not a man afraid of a little blood, or a lot of blood, or a lot of other random chunks of people. At his core though, I think he means well. It takes a special kind of zombie killer to pick a lawn mower to clear a room full of zombies, and that zombie killer is Lionel Cosgrove. Hes on the list because if he wasn't, party's over." - Green

7. Francesco Dellamorte - Cemetery man

"Poor underpaid Francesco, zombie killing is actually a paid position for him. He might have gotten a little wonky from all the zombie killing, but his head count is truly huge. Every night he kicks it off by killing zombies or stopping people from becoming zombies. You know you have killed too many zombies when one of your weapons is berating them for being a bad example to the other corpses.

Not only because of the amount of zombies, the fact that he had to set up the entire system of killing zombies by himself, or the hilarious way he sees the world, but because of the extra style points on some of the kills. Francesco deserves to be on the list, and to get paid overtime." - Gray

8. Cholo Demora - Land of the dead

"Cholo is a hard as nails zombie killer, his toughness can't be disputed. What sets him apart from the crowd is his use of unconventional tactics and weaponry. He routinely kills the crap out of zombies armed with...fireworks and a spear gun. Half the time he isn't even fighting zombies so much as rendering them helpless and killing them. He could potentially take care of the entire zombie invasion with minimal risks. In a world where death is plenty and bites are fatal, being able to neutralize zombies is a key asset.

Not only that but he ups and steals a battle wagon when he gets double crossed. Even turning into a zombie himself doesn't knock him off mission. It is one thing to be a hard human being, it is another level to be so hard that losing your life and reanimating doesn't alter your plans. Cholo earned his spot on the list AND his apartment in green fields, but on the last one, it looks like god left the phone off the hook." - Red

9. Shaun - Shaun of the dead

"Shaun has a can do attitude, he knows when it is time to step up. He can lead people, which is a nice departure from most of the lone wolfs on this list. He is also bringing in the ability to pause and sort out his next move, which is another rare quality for a good zombie killer. This and he still respects his team and acknowledges the strengths and weaknesses that they have.

An unconventional fighter for sure, but not an ineffective one, he disguised himself among the horde, and even contained ed successfully. He can turn almost anything into a weapon and kill a zombie with it. He is funny, but looking at the stats you can see that Shaun is no joke, ed, this is serious!" - Yellow

10. Cindy Bottoms - Fido

"I know this was a contested entry, but lets take a second. She admits to having zombie kills in class, she doesn't flinch at gore what so ever, and she drops a zombie saving two full grown adults. Some of these others might have style, but only Cindy has a merit badge for scoring a head shot while wearing a girl scout uniform.

She ends up with her own pet zombie even, at 9 years old with a minimum of two zombie kills, and showing the skills to get many more, I would be scared NOT to buy a box of thin mints from her, Cindy Bottoms is the truth." - Orange

"Some people are hard, but Selena had to put down her entire family and the love of her life. It turned her ice cold. She might have warmed up a little over time, but she is fast, she is tough as nails, and she is completely ruthless when survival is needed. Anyone infected around her is going down, and she is smart enough to grab gear to help in the fight. Trained soldiers couldn't shake her, rage virus fast zombies don't make her break down either.

Nimble and fast with a weapon and always calm when the heat was on, she proved herself reliable many times to the group. She's one tough lady, physically and emotionally, all wrapped up in quite the pretty package." - Red

12. Martin - Dead snow

"Possibly the only zombie killer to effectively weaponize zombies against other zombies, that alone should justify Martin on this list. Doing it using the nazi arm of the zombie that tried to kill you AFTER you cut your own off with a chainsaw to dodge the zombie bite should make sure you are never off any list. Regular people, run, and find weapons, and conserve food, it is about survival.

Martin saw zombies, then went and got his own zombies AND a tank, and brought the fight to them. Then he finishes, reanimates his girl, and has sex with zombie her before the credits role. It is that kind of thinking and execution that puts Martin right where he belongs on this list, and he brought a few friends." - Purple

13. Ash - Evil dead

"You have no Idea how happy I am to have Ash, I actually just moved him to the bottom for fear of stealing everyone else's thunder. Let's face it, in the food chain of zombie killing, Ash is the apex predator, he has never had to evolve. He is hilarious, he is inventive, he is tough as nails, and he is the living embodiment of swagger itself. He can turn cars into war machines, make medieval robotic hands when they aren't busy being a chainsaw. He can use magic, kind of, and then just win by sheer amounts of awesomeness. Ash cant even outfight himself, seriously he tried and lost.

Every zombie killer, EVERY. ZOMBIE. KILLER. would have a poster of Ash on their bedroom wall. He is quite simply everything you ever wanted in a zombie fight, with a bonus of being the coolest guy on the planet. Shot guns, chainsaw hands, a chin so strong its considered its own weapon. Ben may have started the zombie killer idea, but Ash perfected it. Hail to the king baby." - Blue

7 Most Lethal horror movie killers: Clash of the slashers!

As avid horror fans, the GeekyList staff decided to sort out what would happen if all our favorite slasher style horror movie killers targeted each other. It was agreed that all would meet on neutral ground, a sleepy suburban town, all powers and weapons are in play, evidence of multiple uses in the movies counts as a power, so Jason can teleport around, Chucky can climb things and is unusually strong for a doll, and also that effectively incapacitating counts as kill, smashing someone beyond the means to continue getting kills, etc.

One notable rule was that Pinhead had been summoned for the fight, otherwise he would instantly lose by being stuck in hell, but in order to balance that he starts with no cenobites and the box is in play. Each of us will advocate for our randomly selected killer, although I don't know why these suckers even bothered as soon as I drew Freddy. - Blue

1. Freddy Krueger

"Not only is Freddy going to win, but he is going to make this look good. Freddy's claw is fast and he has trained with it, the only other guy here with decent weapon skills is ghost face, and Freddy is easily 5 times more nimble. He has dexterity for days, most of these guys are getting back flipped over and decapitated.

Freddy is easily the most lethal because as the combatants that do sleep go to bed,lose consciousness from blood loss, or get knocked out from fighting, they all enter Freddy's nightmare. In nightmare mode he can distort the fabric of reality and make them a horror movie victim, which psychologically some of these heavy hitters are kittens. He can also improvise weapons and traps he creates at will if that wasn't overkill enough.

He is a gatekeeper to hell that has shown he is smart enough to wait back and thin the herd before entering the fray and picking off the last few. One of his serious edges is that most people don't know he exists either. He's half ninja/half strategist with super powers that can raise him up to god like advantages, no way Freddy is going down. Welcome to his nightmare." - Blue

2. Jason Voorhees

"Jason is going to win this for two reasons, first, every other killer is going to assume someone ELSE will take him out, and second, none of them actually can. Jason is the gold standard for lethal killing machines, he is the strongest on this list, he is the most durable on this list, and he is the simplest on this list. He is a single minded focused killing machine who has the ability to show up right by you the second you try to avoid him, every aspect of what he does is lethal.

While the others are making plans, and setting up ideas and plots, Jason will be grabbing a hold of them one at a time and savaging them to pieces with his machete or whatever he chooses to force through them. He could beat Michael Myers to death USING ghost face as a weapon. He doesn't stop, he doesn't think, he kills, most of this list will be dead before they even have their first idea.

The rest of these killers might as well do a bunch of drugs, grow boobs, and run around topless, because the second Jason grabs them, they are going to last about as long as your average cheer leading little girl." - Red

3. Michael Myers

"Michael Myers is the dark horse here, in that this is a contest of evil people, and Myers is the embodiment of PURE evil, more so than the rest. He has durability through the roof, he is brutal and strong enough to give Jason a run for his money, and smart enough to set up patsies and escape mental institutions. He uses a simple kitchen knife, but compared to the rest of these guy he wields possibly the widest tool set for killing.

He is a perfect storm of devious mixed with unkillable, without any of the complex emotions that might slow him down. He may not have any single aspect stronger than the other killers, but I think being second in a lot of them make him stronger than being first in only one like his competition. He is one of the few who will target young children and has shown he will go farther than the others. In a fight of monsters, he is clearly the biggest monster in the most evil sense of the term." - Purple

4. Pinhead

"Sweet, Pinhead! Pinhead has possibly the most dangerous advantage, and that is smarts. Overlooking that hes tough enough to take bullets, strong enough to launch someone through a wall, and able to ensnare people in flesh ripping chains. He simply is the smartest guy on the battle field, he will out think these guys.

Also, I know we said he doesn't get his normal entourage, which is fair I guess, BUT he has been known to make cenobites out of both the living and the dead. If you lose to Pinhead, you work for Pinhead, if you lose to anyone else and Pin head finds the body, you work for Pinhead. He is also the most likely to form an allegiance and use team work against opponents to thin the number. He is going to end up with some high powered cenobites. He has such things to show them." - Orange

5. Chucky

"I am glad that I got Chucky, he is far more dangerous than most people realize. Yes he is a serial killer and a doll, but hes inventive and embraces technology in his attacks. He has one of the highest tech levels here, and then there is the first of his two trump cards.

Trump card one is that Chucky isn't stick in his doll body, he knows voodoo and can body switch. Not only that but he has done this to other people. I don't think Jason would be that scary as a toy poodle. I think he is sneaky enough to pull off a body switch or two, which means he could even hide among allied killers and then betray them.

Also in being able to animate dolls with his soul, he has the advantage of being able to hide and access places almost all the others can't, any space a dog could fit in is potential for a flying ball of death ambush. He knows how to do research, and track, and he is one of the few killers here to show patience, even if it isn't infinite. Wanna play? sure, but Chucky is going to win." - Yellow

6. Ghost Face

"I saw you all smirking when I got ghost face. I will be smirking when he wins though, it is one of Ghostface's abilities to have an encyclopedic knowledge of horror movies. He knows all the other killers strengths, weaknesses, methods, origins. He knows exactly what has worked against them and what hasn't. Another prime ability that is going to make every one else suddenly get worried is that he has shown the ability to manipulate the final girl into killing.

That's right, along with the knife, he is sending teenage girl virgins at all these other killers. The last stated ability is that his claim to fame is actually being more than one person, so even if he slips up once or twice, another ghost face is working behind the scenes. He is the Batman of this fight, and like Batman, he will not lose. Whats your favorite scary movie? All of them." - Green

7. The leprechaun

"The leprechaun is on par with the most magical killers here. While some of them maybe dabble with a curse or a spell, he full on wields it. I think this is a massive advantage over half of this list in that magic is a weakness of a lot of the other killers. He may be susceptible to physical harm a little more, but it is worth noting that as an indirect killer he is highly effective.

He also has shown to be an excellent manipulator of peoples desires. This is coupled with super human strength and the ability to get as viscous as a wild animal. He can emulate other voices and sounds, and routinely uses trickery and misdirection to his benefit. I wanted to start the site off with something light and fun, so I suggested all of us here at GeekyLists.com pick some AMV videos we liked so we could vote and make a top list for everyone to enjoy. Apparently it isn't light, because there was explosive cuss words, someone had to be restrained, I think one of my teeth is loose, and our copywriter has yet to be found, so instead this is a list of each persons favorites (We had to decide on 2 because 1 wasn't doable, even then some people did 3) in random order. The justifications for the choice will be included with the entry. It would be safe to assume that all of these videos contain spoilers, so if you haven't seen the show, watch it first, then come back. Also we have assigned ourselves colors, if you don't catch on that quick, that was also a fight. - Blue

1. Highschool of the dead - Dope - Spin me right round

"I picked this video, because first and fore most, it captures the essence of HOTD, action, sexiness, just plain fun. The syncing is amazing on it and it symbolic hits with the lyrics of the song. Its also not a trendy song but instead a time tested classic and a good rock and roll cover. This is a pinnacle of AMV's right here." - Red

2. Bleach - MSI - Straight to video (birthday massacre remix)

"I chose this AMV because it is an amazing remix of this song that adds the exact right atmosphere, the characters are all the under dogs, and each one shows that deep down they had what it took to win. Add that to Jimmy Urine screaming "I never noticed, your so amazing" makes it one of the most emotionally resonant videos I have ever watched. The fight pacing and timing is fantastic, and the entire video fits the music perfect. Anyone who has been doubted and came through will get chills watching it." - Blue

"Akame ga kill is in my top 5 all time list, for all the loss and the feels and the fighting. I remember how hard it hit me when I was watching it in the series, and this song along with this masterful editing just brings it all back and intensifies it, I watched it and it made me have to take a moment. That deserves recognition." - Green

"I'm crying tears of a rapper at how funny this anime video is, I can't watch it without smiling. The editing syncs up better than most of the ones I have seen. Also I love Eva and Flight of the conchords, so I proudly think this is one of the all time greats. The ladies wet suit part alone puts it on this list." - Orange

"Do I really have to defend a tribute to might guy and rock lee set to a song about never running away? This AMV needed to be made, Might guy deserves it. Might guy is the sleeping beast of Naruto, Forever the calvalry, and he made rock lee into his equally powerful mini me. This video is the embodiment of 2 words: Bad Ass." - Blue

8. Soul eater - Marylin Manson - This is halloween

"This video convinced me to watch soul eater, I love soul eater. Crazy is hard to convey right, and you can feel the madness from the song and the cartoon. It is down right creepy at times, and the style and editing is so above par. I rewatch this video about once a month because I like it so much. The piano pumpkin song, and the VERY SPECIAL GUY parts make me stop and admire how well it is done. For a 6 year old video it holds up to the new level of quality extremely well, you can tell it was done with passion." - Green

"This is just a beautiful match up, the core of the show and the core of the song click, and the result of the editing just paints a sorrowful story full of pain and anger and longing. If all AMV's were made like this, they would show them in theaters, it is wonderfully done. You go on a full journey with this one." - Purple

10. Seto No Hanayome - The lonely island - Like a boss

"My sides hurt from re-watching this, this is so hilarious. The cuts are perfect for each line, and it follows the flow and style of the song. This AMV deserves to be here LIKE A BOSS!" - Yellow

11. Akame ga kill - Set it off - I'll sleep when i'm dead

"I couldn't decide between this one and the Hollywood Undead one, but I really think it is just as good! It is creepy and action heavy, and it addresses the manic side of the show so well. I also watched Akame when I couldn't sleep, so it just brings back the totally swept away feeling, seriously that anime is sooo good." - Green

12. Tech N9ne - No can do

"Ok, well if you all wanna see some real bad ass, and real psycho, this amv is for you. It's brutal start to finish and full of bad asses. Tech n9ne kills it and lots and lot of people get destroyed. This is just straight up awesome, you know it, I know it, Tech n9ne knows it. All these other AMV's...no can do." - Red

13. One Peice - Fall out boy - Centuries

"This song might as well be Luffy's theme song, every time they need a shot of him standing against impossible odds, there he is...again. I actually thought of him when I first heard this song, and this video cashes in on that in full force. Epic song for an epic character, plus mad editing skills = epic amv." - Orange

We here at GeekyLists decided that discussing comics would be a good way to heal after the war of The best Amv's

So we decided to focus our efforts on those comic books that we are always bugging our friends to check out. In a more harmonious and peaceful vibe we each came up with something.

1. Rising stars - Joe's Comics

"Straczynski is one of those amazing writers that can suck you into a world and pull you down along side the characters. Rising stars does this so effectively that it is scary. I had considered what it would be like to have powers, at least I thought I had, and then I read this run of comics. All the unseen consequences and the individual paths all the hero's take to get by actually humanized them more than many normal human characters I have read. I found myself having to consider humanity and rethinking how I viewed the actual real world, while being completely riveted start to finish. Anyone who mentions they haven't read Rising Stars gets hounded, HOUNDED, by me to check it out." - Purple

2. Blackest Night - DC Comics

"Now the die hards have read this one, but I think to people getting into comics, its just a huge task of a read list. The follow up Brightest day didn't do it any favors either, but I managed to get through the entire thing, with the tie in comics and all, and for the simple reason that it casts almost every hero I have gotten to know in a new perspective and added depth to almost everyone by making them face the past. I think its a gem of a comic run, I don't remember being that riveted by all the twists and turns, and just the raw evilness of black lanterns. So many epic moments in the truest sense of the word (Black Lantern Super Man!), and normally a story is only as good as its antagonist, which, this run delivers in spades. With something for everyone and a massive myth arc slowly devouring the universe alive, I am always pushing people who skipped it to go back and get it read." - Orange

3. Villains united - DC Comics

"It never got much love, and it still doesn't to this day, which I think is a shame. The secret six didn't hand wave the throw away villains, it actually deconstructed and then reconstructed them stronger. The writers had joke characters to work with and they managed to re-imagine into characters I truly enjoyed reading. They all have depth and purpose and the entire run they help each other grow into so much more than they ever where. The struggles and the trapped feelings along with characters shining away like gems in the plot make this such a good read and an emotional roller coaster. It is definitely on my read list for anyone thinking a character should be written off." - Blue

4. Runaways - Marvel comics

"Marvel tried to switch it up a little with Runaways, and I thought it was a good switch. The characters are all really well put together, the plot actually feels really good pace wise, the art is a joy to look at, and the twists and turns they are put through are genuinely entertaining. It has the right balance of mystery/drama/humor/adventure to make it one of my favorite comic book runs. I enjoyed it so much that I got avengers academy and avengers arena sight unseen just because they had the runaways in them. The powers are cool, it is one of the examples about how having no weaknesses can a comic book stronger as a whole, it is a super easy and delightful read. I would recommend it to anyone." - Red

5. Avengers academy - Marvel comics

"I think it's hilarious that Red said Runaways, because I try to get all my friends into Avengers academy AND avengers arena. The highschoolish dynamic between the characters trying to sneak around under the thumb of more established heroes mixed with the kids honestly just trying to master powers and deal with all the drama that comes with having to be social and a teenager make for good stories. The characters are easy to like and the goals are completely relatable. I enjoyed the runs immensely but almost everyone that I talk to hasn't read them. It is also funny to see some of the older heroes trying to relate awkwardly to teens, and what happens when your teenage angst butts up against the wrong hero." - Yellow

I have read most of these at the urging of my friends, so I can vouch that I personally enjoyed each and every suggestion here. 9 Classic PC Games that may never be topped

Some games never stop being amazing, we have taken to discussing some older games that we think still hold up against today's games. After a decent amount discussion and bartering we shortened the list to what we decided on as great, iconic games, following one of the amazon links and looking around for a bit, you can find most of these for less than coffee too, which is mind blowing given how amazing most of them are.

1. Planescape: Torment

"I figured I would get Planescape out of the way, it is the 900 pound gorilla of classic gaming. I know many people, my self included that count it as one of the most satisfying games I have ever played. Whole teams of dungeon masters collaborated and poured more than 100 years of dming experience to try and make the best dnd campaign ever. So far they have succeeded, the characters are awesome, the dialog is awesome, the enemies, the quests, the factions, everything is awesome. It is a beast that will never be topped, we can only hope that games will equal it." - Red

2. Half life 2

"Half life 2 is a bit dated by fps standards, but in game play, atmosphere, and story telling it is still leaps and bounds ahead of most modern first person shooters. The game play design here was developed reactively by observing people playing the game itself and then tweaking, that is why it can effectively get in your head and give you immersion few other fps's could dream of. The variety of game play is also of note as being far ahead of its time. Half life 2 redefined shooters, and in some ways, shooters are still trying to catch up to it." - Orange

3. Bioshock

"Bioshock was a revelation for me personally, I had always hated fps's and played more adventure and action games. I am a big horror fan, and this game legitimately scared/fooled/shocked me on a few different occasions. I was not prepared for the experience I got and that made the game extremely fun to play. It is as creepy as it is fun, and it is as smart as it is devious. Often imitated these days, but no one has quite pulled it off yet. Bioshock brings the goods you didn't even know you wanted." - Yellow

4. Mass effect 2

"When mass effect came out, I loved it, blending stories with fps was something I hadn't seen since dues ex to any kind of success, I remember thinking, no one is ever going to top this. Then I played mass effect 2, This game took control of my life for 2 weeks solid, I knew every one of my crew on a deep personal level, the universe was vast, people had problems and I WANTED to solve them. I upgraded everything, I heard the stories, I even just sat in awe at times interacting with the world and planning my strategies. This game is one of those perfect games, It makes you feel, It sucks you in,you start caring about the game characters despite yourself and wondering what it is all going to mean. Saying I love this game is like saying a tsunami is wet, this game single handed redefined what an fps could be, all the area that half life didn't cover, it did in a different way." - green

5. Thief

" The original stealth game that started the idea of sneaking. The atmosphere and story alone would have made it a contender, but the rigidness of thief is what makes it so great. You experience what it would be like to be surrounded by people you HAVE to hide from, and use your wits to circumvent. There is no fire ball option, there is only stealth. Few things are as satisfying as pulling off a heist that you genuinely had to earn, the original system was so fun and innovative that most rpg's since have stolen it and referenced it. The gold edition has updated graphics to help it age a little better, but it is still one of the coolest worlds and best game play experiences around." - Blue

6. Baldurs gate 2

"If Planescape was a god of CRPG's, then Baldurs gate 2 would be a titan. A little less flair, maybe a little less strong, but barely, and never ever to be taken lightly. Baldurs gate 2 has its own set of story telling tricks, and great quests and interesting characters, boo! It has as much heart and is made with the same passion as planescape, the only way it is the junior of the pair is that the execution is simply amazing instead of perfect. Hours of game play can be had, with many people playing it more than once. It is as epic as any game, if only 2d, but it feels vast and it is told well." - purple

7. Grim fandago

"Grim fandango has a style and charm to its game world that is only seen in lucas arts games. It is endearing from start to finish, It drips with style and feel good fun. I can't tell you how happy I was that it got a revival from being remastered, because between the jokes, the art work, and even the entire premise, I fell in love with the game. It is one of those games that when you do finish it, all you feel is sadness for a day or two that more of the game doesn't exist. They had a way of telling stories in those old adventure games that few people even try to replicate." - Purple

8. Vampire the masquerade: Bloodlines

"I have known about the raw storytelling power of white wolf for a long time, we used to play vampire table top and the level of complexity and focus on story was great even then. As you can guess this results in a game with plots so twisted and intertwined, you may well have to play through 5 different times with 5 different clans just to know the full story of what is going on. Everything about this game creates atmosphere and stays with you, deepening the immersion of every interaction. Few games I view as actual art, but the artistry of the story telling in bloodlines is undeniable, if you want tales of intrigue, scary environments, and (dear god please play a malkavian once through) super powered high jinx in some situations. This dark sexy and secretive title is most certainly for you." - Yellow

9. Psychonauts

"Psychonauts is a platformer that is more creative than any work really has a right to be. The concept of jumping into minds and running around in the manifestations of their personality is intriguing enough. The game play and the sheer amount of fun and style they make you do it with is almost over kill. It has all the comforts of going back to home base at the camp in between and unlocking things,before diving back into someone else's reality, but it truly feels like you changed dimensions. The quirkiness of this title and they way they pulled it off, if I had millions of dollars to try to out do this game, I couldn't, because I wouldn't even know where to start, it hit the target that no one could even see. I feel like the game itself is actually art." - Blue
