I know it might be a bit early – but we had SO much fun creating it !

We left a few spots open to add things we havent thought of yet – and maybe get some ideas from some of my readers……

It is so addicting….the other day i created a couple new stock canvases, and one of them made it to the popular page of Pinterest (which is a pretty big deal) it got almost 400 repins and over 80 likes…it was so exciting….i took a screen capture of it so i could show you!!

Day one Training for Warrior Dash – OMG

I just signed up for the Warrior Dash ! CRAP! - what am I thinking? I have been wanting to do something out of my comfort zone for some time now. My hubby trains for the Tough Mudder Race every year… I want to do something that will keep me motivated at the gym for an extended length of time … So I commited to running the Warrior Dash in PA in June 2012.

I am going to try to document my goals and how I am feeling every week or two while I train – If you have anything you are training for or fitness goals you are trying to reach – check back with me – and keep me posted on how and what you are doing – we can keep each other motivated.

So my current goals are to be able to..

complete the darn thing with running 80% of the time (right now about 40%)
drop 25 pounds before it while training (lost 4 lbs so far)
be able to do 25 push ups at a time (right now I am at about 7)
get my sister / assistant (Niki) to sign up with me and hubby! (she says maybe)

I started to increase my time in the gym this past week….instead of run/walk 30 minutes 4 x a week …

I have increased it to 4-5 times a week or 45 minute cardio with one of those cardio sessions lasting 1 hour.

My goal is not for a certain time on this race with all these crazy fun muddy obstacles .. it is to finish proud and strong.

I have my brand new sneakers from New Balance and a great playlist on my IPOD ..and I am ready to begin this journey ..

Any songs you LOVE to hear while running?? One of my favorites is “How ya like me now” – by The Heavy .. it is that addicting car commercial song with the sock monkey – i love it!

End of Year Family + 200 Canvases!!!

This Month was soooo busy….i shipped out 200 canvases in time for holiday delivery….we had Christmas, my sons 9th birthday, ballet with my daughter….i am exhausted!!

A big thank you to all my customers who shopped Geezees this year and made this the biggest year yet…i LOVE what i do and i am so lucky that i get to make so many people happy!

IT’S MY SITS DAY!

This is the second time I have been featured on SITS and i just wanted to say thank you for your support. The SITS Girls are a group of 10,000 women bloggers dedicated to supporting one another.

I started blogging in 2009, that’s when i had this idea for Geezees, I was working in an office from 9-5 and didn’t get to be with my family as much as I would like to be. That’s when one of my friends saw a couple of the canvases I had made and hung in my home for me and my family and told me I should open an online shop. At first i thought, ok, and if i get 1 sale I would be surprised…almost 4 years and 1,500 sales later I am able to work from home comfortably as the owner of Geezees Canvas and watch my children grow. I am very blessed to have amazing customers who keep coming back and spreading the word, and a supportive husband who tells me how proud he is of me for taking the chance to start something and do something different. Last Year I was able to hire my sister as my assistant and right hand gal…who knows what direction Geezees will grow and go this upcoming 2012!

Having a bit of an unexpected emotional day this week.…. my daughter started pre-school.

I was all about “WHOO – all the kids are at school Monday!!”

But today …she looked so big …..putting on her lip gloss , picking out her ring and putting on her new shoes and school clothes … she didn’t want me to brush her hair …SHE wanted to do it herself.

When did my baby grow up?

So weird for us moms, with daughters …. we see ourselves in them , which is SO lovely and SO scary at the same time ….. wearing our hearts out on our sleeve every time they gain a bit more of independence …..

Beautiful and bittersweet … I a looking forward to being able to have some child-free time to work -

Today I am starting my new bi-weekly feature called “You’ve Been Pinned” I just recently started my own Pinterest and it’s a lot of fun. I have found some neat stuff on there and every week I will tell you what I found. A great friend of mine, Chris, started his own Etsy shop selling his mail organizing stations that are built with the intention of housing all important mail in one location.

What a unique way to pop the question! I was so excited last month when i got an email from Micah, the sweet guy in this picture. He emailed me saying he wanted to propose to his girlfriend using one of my canvases. I have never done this before and was so excited about my first Geezees proposal.

You can see here where he snuck in “Will You Marry Me” on the canvas…. So romantic!!!

I told him to send me a picture after she said YES, so here is the photo after he proposed.

I wanted to share what my creative hubby and I did …. DIY Distressed Recycled Wood Table top. Taking all the wood from our scraps from making these…..

We cut all the scrap wood in even slats, framed out a new table top, painted it black (to match our new kitchen) and banged it all up, to get that neat distressed look. And …. BANG … brand new table! Just the cost of paint !

I knew there was a reason I kept him around … lol

Cancer Sucks

This has been such a heartbreaking week for my family – especially my cousin and her husband who had to deal with the loss of their 5 year old son – Michael – who lost his battle with Leukemia last friday. Many of you might remember reading about Mikey last year during the my post regarding the fundraiser to raise money for the family. The response then was overwhelming and the special thoughts sent by the online community was uplifting …. … if only prayers, and hope were enough to save the little lives of those fighting childhood cancer …. it would be such a better world ….. I thank you all for such a great online presence.

This week, my cousin asked me to create art for Michael’s wake – and it was the first time in three years I did not enjoy my job …. creating memorial / tribute art for someone you love, hits too close to home ….. and although I was truly honored to be able to create something they will have to look at, to see that great smile and read his favorite lines from his favorite Dr. Seuss books … the mother in me had a difficult time looking in the eyes of a child I knew and loved. He was a brave kid, a fighter and a sweet boy ….. to say he will be missed – is too much of an understatement …. A heavy heart this week, as I squeeze my children a bit longer and tighter than usual and count my blessings.

I am so proud of myself, today I ran non stop on the treadmill for 24 minutes, it’s the small things people So have decided to make a goal for myself and run a 5K in the fall. I was inspired by this Geezees canvas I did about this woman that ran a marathon.

Does anybody watch the show Amazing Race? Me and my husband are huge fans of the show. Well my hubby and his best friend are at an Amazing Race casting call today. I am so excited for him and hope he Kicks Some Ass!

No, we didn’t have another baby…. but we did get a rottweiler puppy and i love him. I am sure you are all thinking we have lost our minds… puppies are a lot of work, but i used to have a rottie, and i miss him and always wanted another one. Even though he cried all night we still ~~like~~ love him.

His name is Otto and the kids adore him and our other dog Stella actually seems to like him too.

My little cousin Mikey who is 5 years old is fighting minute by minute today to stay alive. I ask you send your love and strength to my family and to this sweet little boy. Today might be his last fight with this ugly disease called Leukemia. I can’t imagine what my cousin,(his parents),are going through at this moment. From one mother to another in awe of her strength.

So after ENOUGH snow and ice this winter, we decided to whisk the kids away for a surprise trip to Wolfs Lodge this past week The kids were totally surprised , we left late in the night (they were in their PJ’S).

A little R&R and indoor swimming at the water park was SO needed!

What a great place – has anyone ever gone??

My son was obsessed with Magic quest (a sort of interactive scavenger hunt – dragon and magic wand style)

They have been so cute lately with each other ….

How long will they do things like this?? I found them the other day – my son showing my daughter how to use a computer game … he was being so sweet with her … they sat like that for 45 minutes …

I would like to introduce another Geezees story behind the canvas.

Canvas unwrapped,

which shows the art and someones story behinds the words or images. I hope to share the most beautiful part of my job with everyone. Everyday i get a glimpse into someones inspirational, heartfelt sometimes bittersweet stories that people share with me to create their custom canvas art. I would like to thank Khyati for letting us share her story behind her canvas.

My family immigrated to the States in the early 1980′s from India. My dad came first to settle down and then my mom, with three girls and 1 large jar of pickled mango!, arrived in 1981. I’m not sure how my dad had the courage to travel across the world to a foreign country optimistically in starting a new life in American. And how my mom traveled alone with 3 children, I only being 1 1/2, to a new culture, language, and way of life. Initially, we moved around a bit because my dad was an engineer-from Kenwick, WA to Bloomington, IL, ultimately settling in Baton Rouge, LA, where we spent most of our childhood years. Times were tough as new immigrants for at least 10 years but we never felt like we lacked anything. And though my father raised us with a tight fist, repeatedly stressing the importance of education, family, and cultural values, we always knew how much we had to be grateful for. My two sisters and I are grown up now, educated, married, and happy and we wanted to do something meaningful to let our parents know how much we appreciate all they’ve done and sacrificed for us. They’re not big on gifts and usually never accept anything we give them so creating a canvas that captured their wedding pictures and images of them as newlyweds and as a couple today was really meaningful for them and the 50 or so guests that were at our home! It was an opportunity to show our parents who have given so much, with no expectation of anything in return, how much we love them.

Canvas Unwrapped (Mary’s Story)

Ever since I can remember, my dad has awaken his family of five every Saturday and Sunday morning to the sound of raging rock and roll. He spends his free time teaching himself new chords and songs on one of his three treasured guitars. When we were younger, we’d begrudgingly roll out of bed and plead to him to cut off the racket. I can recall my younger brother, at the age of five, going downstairs to turn down my dad’s amp and yell ‘stop that noise!’ I could have never imagined that I’d miss my father’s early morning bellowing.
In November of 2008, our family received some heartbreaking news. My Dad’s long struggle with cancer had taken a turn for the worst. For months we waited in limbo for a solution to his illness. Hope came in the form of an experimental stem-cell research procedure. While the procedure showed promise, it was by no means without risk. Specialists depleted his body of blood cells using chemotherapy, bringing his immune system to a very low level. He had to stay in the hospital without visitors for five weeks. We were told that he had to stay in a completely sterile environment because without a sufficient level of white blood cells, even a small cold could potentially kill him. His own harvested stem cells were then used to replenish his body’s immune system and make him well again. While he was away, there could have been no sweeter sound than that ‘noise’ that he produced every weekend morning. When he came home in late May, 2009, his children picked up his guitars to humor him by strumming a poorly rehearsed song. We then handed him a guitar and had him serenade us. Although none of us play the guitar, we all share his love for music.

This picture that Stephanie used to create the canvas was taken on one of the happiest days of my life. The day that I spent singing with my dad; the day that I learned that I will be singing with him for years to come.

I am glad to say that Geezees sold over 500 canvases 2010 – which is 100 more than the year before – THANK you !!!

This past 2 weeks – we kicked out 80 Holiday canvases – Had a Merry Christmas – A wonderful time spent with family – Had a rockin New Years Eve Party of our own – kids included – with great friends, food and spirits – Had a bit of snow and the kids got to have their first sleigh ride of the season .. All got hit with the stomach bug – and now back to the day in day out stuff

I have some great new things planned for the year for Geezees – so stay tuned!!!!!

Canvas Unwrapped (Jaime & Mike)

He directed my first play and I began choreographing for him. We’d known each other for two years and had become good friends. I won a bet and Mike owed me dinner. So, on May 13, 2002 I picked out a cute black pencil skirt, heels, fixed my bleach blonde hair and put on red lipstick. I headed out to meet him at an intimate Italian restaurant. He was never an affectionate guy so you could imagine my surprise when he placed his hand on the small of my back as we walked down a ramp into the Windsor Casino. We laughed about our friends teasing me about our “pseudo dates” and played black jack. I lost. He won all of it back. We pulled up to my apartment and I kissed the last man I ever wanted to. We moved into a flat, got a dog, bought a house, got another dog and began making a life and a home together.

On October 21, 2005 we were in our favorite place, Stratford Ontario, on a trip with his students. The theater festival there is a must for us every year. I was running late for a workshop at the main stage. Mike met me outside and we rushed into the theater, hoping that they’d still let us in. I was shocked to see that we were the first to arrive. The woman running the class said she’d be right back. Mike climbed onto the stage and after much coaxing, convinced me to join him. It was breathtaking. So beautiful from center stage. He wrapped his arms around me and asked if I know how much he loved me. When I turned around, he had dropped to one knee. I almost fell over!

On September 30, 2006 we were married and have been blessed with a child every year since ’08! Harper, Josephine and Holden are walking and talking (not all yet!) daily reminders of our love and life together. “I feel bad for everyone else”, he says. “For not having an ounce of what we do.” He means it. And I do too.

On our first Christmas together I gave him an awful orange sweater. He’s never worn it and refuses to get rid of it. After opening our art from Stephanie I understand why. He said, “That’s better than a sweater. That’s why I have to keep it.
It’s the evolution of us. From that to this.” Thank you, Stephanie.

Stephanie- Thank you so much! I have been trying for years to give my husband something that could capture even a glimmer of my feelings for him and you have made that possible for me. I couldn’t wait to give it to him so I didn’t! He was breathless and finally said, “This is the best. Ever.” I sat and watched my husband’s eyes fill with tears and his face soften with the intention realized that I have so longed to express. I was only able to give him this one gift this year and I know that I made the perfect choice.I really don’t know if I’ll ever be able to top it. Maybe a collage of our 3 kids next year!
