Early Dismissal Day * Last Day of School

Early Dismissal Day is Thursday, May 23 which is the last day of school for students. All students including (half-day kindergarten students) will attend school from 9:00 AM to 12:46 PM. Students will be eating lunch on this day and have the opportunity to purchase a hot lunch or bring a sack lunch from home. Children will be transported home according to the information you provided on your Early Dismissal form sent home at the beginning of the year.

Please note that we often experience transportation delays with our busses on our early release days. If you have arranged for alternative transportation on
the early release day, please send a note to your child’s teacher.

The end of the school year is rapidly approaching. In keeping with the new Rockwood School District Medication Policy, no medication can be sent home with a student. You will need to make arrangements for an adult to pick up any left-over medications. This may be you, a relative, friend or neighbor. There are no exceptions and medications may not be sent by mail. Medications not picked up will be discarded. If you have any questions please call me at school.

Summer Savings Week with Community Ed

Summer is almost here! To celebrate, Rockwood Community Education is offering a week of savings on summer programs May 6-10, 2013. Each day, two different camps, clinics or classes will be offered at a reduced price for one day only.

The deals will begin at 9 a.m. and will be available until 10 p.m. each day. Be sure to visit the Community Education website each day to take advantage of these special savings.

4th and 5th Grade Course Enrollment Forms

The Rockwood School District offers students in the fourth and fifth grade the opportunity to participate in an orchestra program.

Fourth grade orchestra program is an extension of third grade violin class and is open to every student. Students may continue instruction on the violin or they may choose to begin instruction on another stringed instrument! Students who do not wish to continue learning an instrument will select a technology class that meets during the same time block. Students are responsible for obtaining an instrument and all supplies for class. Fourth grade FORM and more information

Fifth grade orchestra program is an elective class offered to students enrolled in fourth grade orchestra. Current orchestra students may continue instruction on the same instrument during their fifth grade year. Classes will meet twice weekly for thirty minutes in heterogeneous groups (violins, violas, cellos, and basses combined). Students are responsible for obtaining an instrument and all supplies for class. Fifth grade FORM and more information.

Geggie Night at the Ballpark

Geggie Night at the Ballpark is on Friday evening, May 10, when the St. Louis Cardinals play the Colorado Rockies!

Special Chorus will sing the National Anthem.

Tickets are $14 each, and can be paid for with exact cash. Ticket orders with money should be turned into Mrs. Conrad. Go Cards!

DESE Parent Survey: Services for Special Education

The Missouri Department of Elementary and Secondary Education (DESE) is gathering information from parents who have a child(ren) who receives special education services.

Below is a link to a copy of the survey with two options for submission: online or mail. This survey is confidential; individual responses are not shared with the school district or anyone else.

All surveys should be completed by May 10, 2013.

Child Nutrition End of Year Procedures

As the end of the school year approaches, Child Nutrition Services is implementing procedures for negative meal account balances. Students and staff will not be allowed to charge a meal after Tuesday, April 30, 2013. Beginning Wednesday, May 1, if a student does not have adequate funds or has a negative meal account balance, an alternative entrée of a cheese or tuna sandwich will be offered to the student.

All balances left in meal accounts at the end of the school year will automatically be carried forward for students continuing in any Rockwood School. If a student moves out of the school district, a refund can be requested. The parent/guardian may request a refund by phone call or a written note to the cafeteria manager. If the parent/guardian chooses to have a student pick up a cash refund for an amount less than $10.00, a signed note must be sent to the cafeteria manager giving the student permission to receive the refund. Refunds over $10.00 will be issued by check from the Rockwood School District.

Geggie Blood Drive

Volunteer to give blood on May 2 at Geggie's 4th Annual Blood Drive sponsored by The Character Kids Council. With the help of parents, staff and community members, Geggie hopes to collect more than 75 pints of blood. The blood drive is truly a school wide effort as students will greet donors, talk with donors while they donate and help promote the event. In addition, each student is encouraged to find an adult volunteer to give blood as the theme of the blood drive is, "I Stand for You."

5th Grade Celebration

The plans for our 5th Grade Celebration on Wednesday, May 22, 2013 are underway! Our theme is "Survivor"! The PTO has generously contributed funds toward the cost of this event, and we are collecting donations from local merchants. In addition, we are selling ad space in the memory books to help offset some of the costs.

Memory Book deadlines extended to April 26.

In the coming weeks, we will also be looking for other donations, such as items for the lunch portion of the celebration. .

Geggie Gets Going 5K Run/Walk

On Saturday, April 27, Geggie Elementary School will host its third annual 5K Run/Walk. Proceeds from the event will benefit the Girls on the Run Scholarship program as well as help the school purchase new equipment to improve the quality of instruction in Geggie’s physical education program.

Pat Grimshaw, physical education teacher and event organizer, said the school is excited to host its event in conjunction with the dedication of the new Flat Creek Trail.

“Our focus is on family fun and fitness,” said Grimshaw. “It’s a natural fit to tie our race with the dedication ceremony as this trail runs through the heart of Eureka.”

This year, Geggie hopes to have 400 runners and walkers participate in its 5K. “We’ve had terrific support from our school community in previous years; it says a lot about Geggie to have parents, siblings and extended family participate,” said Grimshaw. “When you see the smiles on kids’ faces, it makes all the effort worth it!”

In addition to partnering with Eureka’s parks department for the trail dedication ceremony and ribbon cutting, first responders from Eureka Police will manage the streets to create a safe course through the surrounding communities. Selbert’s AutoBody is the official sponsor of the event, and several other business partners are also supporting the race.

The race begins at 8 a.m. The course will start and end at Geggie Elementary. Participants will run through Shaws Garden, the Drewel Park Trail and the Flat Creek Trail. Download the flier for more information.
