Gehrlicher Solar builds one of the first self-consumption projects for a residential development in Spain

The company has completed the construction of a stand-alone PV mini-grid with a maximum output of 22.5 kWp to supply power to a residential estate in a rural area in Caravaca de la Cruz, Murcia, Spain.

Madrid, Spain. Gehrlicher Solar Spain has completed a PV "off-grid" installation for a residential development of nine houses in a rural area of Cañada Lentisco that is not connected to the public grid. Thanks to the moderate investment that will be recovered in five years, the settlement will generate its own electricity for at least 30 years and will not suffer from the effects of constantly increasing electricity prices.

The system was installed on the roof of a farm building directly adjacent to the housing development, covering approximately 150 m². It will achieve an output of 30 kW with battery support and an estimated yearly output of 21,100 kWh. It is made up of 90 photovoltaic modules and two STP10000TL SMA inverters as well as six Sunny Island 5048 inverters which have been designed specifically for use with off-grid systems. Gehrlicher has used its own GehrTec® Top roof-top mounting system on the installation, noted for its flexibility with all designs of roof, excellent load capacity, and high resistance to corrosion. However, Gehrlicher Solar was not just responsible for design and construction but will also operate and maintain the installation.

The importance of this project for the region lies in the fact that this stand-alone off-grid installation will provide the nine family dwellings smartly with an efficient and sustainable power supply. Therefore this project is a prototype for other electrification projects in rural Spain. Steady increases in fossil fuel prices, coupled with continuous increases in electricity prices, are now making stand-alone energy supply systems a good cost-saving solution for industrial as well as private consumers. Independence from energy providers is a further key benefit, protecting companies and families from increasing electricity prices for a minimum of 30 years, the life expectancy of the installation.

Gehrlicher Solar AG to build first 9 MW solar park in Romania

The photovoltaic company is completing the initial phase of constructing a ground-mounted system...

The photovoltaic company is completing the initial phase of constructing a ground-mounted system for Ra Ra Parc SRL, the investor and operator in Isaccea, eastern Romania.

Dornach n. Munich. Technical acceptance of the initial construction phase of 800 kWp was already completed in mid-October. The system generating 8.75 MWp of total power will be completed and connected to the grid by November 15. The Romanian private investors who are behind the company Ra Ra Parc SRL as a shareholder have successfully implemented several projects in Romania in renewable energies before, including two wind farms. These investments are supported through the promotion of energy production from renewable sources with green certificates.

The solar park located 220 km north east of Bucharest is built on an area measuring 14 hectares overall. In another first, 35,172 modules manufactured by JA Solar will be used in constructing this plant. SMA produced the nine central inverters for converting solar power into gridcompatible direct current. The solar power system is expected to generate around 12 million kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly electricity yearly. Compared to electricity generated from fossil fuels, the plant will save approximately 10,400 tons of CO2 yearly.

Klaus Gehrlicher, CEO of Gehrlicher Solar AG explains: "The Isaccea project gave us a chance to impress the investor Ra Ra Parc SRL early on with our many years of experience and capability for rapid realization of international projects. We are very pleased to have been awarded the contract for planning and constructing one of Romania's largest solar parks. Since we are taking over the plant's operation and maintenance, our positive and confident collaboration with this investor geared toward sustainability will result in longterm local engagement."

Thus, Gehrlicher Solar is working on a parallel project for the investor Ra Ra, a 536 kWp rooftop system in Brasov, while other, subsequent projects are still in the planning stages. The successful implementation of these projects is paving the way for additional Gehrlicher Solar photovoltaic systems in Romania.

Recognizing the significance of the Romanian market, Gehrlicher Solar AG will also participate as an exhibitor at RENEXPO® SOUTH-EAST EUROPE from November 21 to 23, 2012 in Bucharest. RENEXPO® SOUTH-EAST EUROPE is the largest trade show in the field of renewable energy sources in Romania and also one of the largest energy platforms in the southeastern region of Europe.

Successful LGA approval for the roof-mounted system GehrTec® Top

Dornach n. Munich. The Landesgewerbeanstalt Bayern (LGA), a public-law corporation accredited for...

Dornach n. Munich. The Landesgewerbeanstalt Bayern (LGA), a public-law corporation accredited for structural analysis and mechanical stability testing, has tested and certified the module mounting system GehrTec® Top in August 2012. The test report S-WUE 070466 confirms once again the high quality and mechanical stability of the GehrTec® system which is both internally-developed and selfmanufactured. Currently there are very few suppliers in the market that can prove such an LGA certification for their mounting systems. Moreover, with GehrTec® Top a high degree of pre-installation is possible and, due to the few system parts, results in extremely low material and labour costs and optimized profitability.

The installer appreciates the legal certainty provided by the LGA type test that the dimensioning of the mounting system design conforms to all relevant norms and regulations. In some public sector construction projects, mandatory and often timeintensive structural auditing requirements of the applied calculation methods are also no longer required, as the type testing releases the supervisory authorities from this requirement. With respect to the instructions publicized in May 2012 by the German Institute for Construction Technology (DIBt) for photovoltaic plants, this is a further step to adherence to the construction requirements (product and dimensioning regulations) and the defining of photovoltaic systems as engineered structures.

GehrTec® Top is a flexible, scalable roof-top installation system, suitable for a wide range of roof top types. All components “made in Germany” are of high quality aluminum and stainless steel (ISO standard). Thanks to its high load-bearing ability the GehrTec® Top fulfills the DIN 1055. Moreover the high quality system parts are distinguished by their high resistance to corrosion, guaranteeing an especially long life of the entire system design.

The photovoltaics company built a ground-mounted system generating 35 MW total power and its own...

The photovoltaics company built a ground-mounted system generating 35 MW total power and its own transformer station on the grounds of the former Perleberg military airport in Brandenburg.

Perleberg / Munich Gehrlicher Solar AG successfully completed its Perleberg solar park in record time after just two and a half months of construction. Technical commissioning of the solar park was completed on time on June 30. The solar power system with 35 MWp nominal capacity is located halfway between Hamburg and Berlin. It is expected to produce about 33 million kilowatt hours of environmentally friendly solar power annually, an amount sufficient to cover the needs of around 9,300 three-person households. Due to the solar park's high capacity, the company also built a separate expandable 110 kV transformer station, which served to connect the solar park to the grid on August 23 and has been providing full power input reliably ever since. Compared to electricity generated from fossil fuels, starting immediately, the plant will save approximately 32,000 tons of CO2 annually.

"We are especially grateful to the policy makers at the City of Perleberg and District of Prignitz as well as the authorities in charge, such as the Perleberg building authority. In addition, we would also like to thank the two former property owners, the Brandenburg Land Association for Land Use and Management (Brandenburgische Boden Gesellschaft für Grundstücksverwaltung und -verwertung mbH (BBG)) and the Federal Agency for Real Estate Management (Bundesanstalt für Immobilienaufgaben (BImA)), as well as the Aero-Club Perleberg e.V. for their excellent cooperation at all times", so Klaus Gehrlicher, CEO of Gehrlicher Solar AG.

The solar park was built on the grounds of the former military airport Perleberg and comprises 90 hectares, an overall area corresponding to the size of approx. 125 soccer fields. After the complex undertaking of munitions removal, all told, 144,144 modules manufactured by Yingli, 39 inverters by market leader SMA and about 500 km of cable were used in this project. At times the site employed up to 120 installers. The GehrTec® Base substructure developed in-house, for which approx. 25,000 posts were rammed into the ground serves as the basis for the crystalline modules. The remaining 26 hectares are designated compensation areas and serve as a habitat for many meadow breeding birds.

The solar park's official dedication is planned for mid-October with numerous city and district politicians in attendance.

Gehrlicher Solar AG to start construction of solar park Rothenburg IV with 15.2 MWp

The photovoltaics company is building a ground-mounted system generating a total power of 15.2 MWp...

The photovoltaics company is building a ground-mounted system generating a total power of 15.2 MWp on the premises of the former military airport at Rothenburg in Saxony for KGAL GmbH & Co. KG.

Rothenburg / Munich. At the beginning of August Gehrlicher Solar AG started the construction of solar park Rothenburg IV. With 15.2 megawatt of nominal power, the solar power system is projected to generate about 15 million kilowatt hours of green electricity on a yearly basis, an amount sufficient to cover the needs of around 4,280 three-person households and complements the already existing solar parks Rothenburg I-III (21.8 MWp).Currently the steel profiles are rammed into the earth on which afterwards the in-house developed substructure GehrTec® Base for the solar modules will be installed.

“We have had great support in the realization of this project, especially from the political representatives of the city of Rothenburg and the administrative district of Görlitz, but also from the special purpose association of the airport“, emphasizes Klaus Gehrlicher, CEO of Gehrlicher Solar AG. “Gehrlicher Solar’s vision is a sustainable energy supply exclusively from renewable energy. However, all involved partners like airport operator, city, administrative district and local associations can profit from the construction of solar park Rothenburg – above all companies from the region which are used with priority as subcontractors for the construction of the solar park.”.

The solar park is built on a total of 30 hectares encompassing the previous military airport of Rothenburg in Saxony and is an example of a sensible use of fallow terrain, which was once used for military purposes. In the weeks to come, Gehrlicher Solar will build up 25 hectares of this area with substructures as well as in each case 7.6MWp solar modules from Yingli and BYD and 16 inverters from the market leader SMA that convert the direct current into grid-conforming alternating current. The rest of the area will serve as what is called compensation area used to create habitats for meadow-breeding birds. Commissioning of the solar park is planned for 30th of September. Compared to energy generated from fossil fuels, the plant will save approximately 13,500 tons of CO2 yearly.

After having realized the solar park Perleberg also this project could be successfully closed with KGAL which is located in Grünwald near Munich. Dr. Klaus Wolf, member of the Board of KGAL, explains: "With the project in Rothenburg we continue the good and trustful cooperation with Gehrlicher Solar AG. Together with the already operating solar parks in Zamora (Spain) and Perleberg we thus have acquired solar power plants with a total capacity of 60 MW for our investors from Gehrlicher – and we always experienced Gehrlicher as a reliable partner."

Gehrlicher Solar signs a cooperation agreement with Federico Santa María Technical University to promote photovoltaic solar power in Chile

The Energy Innovation Centre at the University and the German multinational corporation have agreed...

The Energy Innovation Centre at the University and the German multinational corporation have agreed to work in the areas of innovation, development and training in renewable energy generation systems -such as photovoltaic solar energy, energy efficiency, process optimization and automatic systems.

Valparaiso, Chile. The signing of this document relates to an important cooperation agreement between Federico Santa María Technical University (USM) through its Energy Innovation Centre (CIE) and Gehrlicher Solar, which is very interested in cooperating in Chile to implement energy technology, and especially photovoltaic solar energy, throughout the production of local goods and services and in developing spaces for innovation.
The signing ceremony was held yesterday at 12.00 (Chilean time) in the Central House at Valparaiso campus. The ceremony was led by USM Chancellor José Rodríguez and by Gehrlicher Solar España CEO Francisco Espín Sánchez.
In this context, both institutions agree to design, implement and assess a Work Plan establishing the joint cooperation actions among the parties within the areas of innovation, development, training in renewable energy generation systems, energy efficiency, process optimization and automatic systems, among others. Within this framework, Gehrlicher Solar is interested in cooperating to launch innovative R&D actions to transfer their results into the industry.
The Director of the Energy Innovation Centre, Jaime Espinoza, stated: "For CIE this agreement involves its need for a strategic association with Research Centres and international companies to establish links for joint research, development and projects using the European experience in renewable energy, especially in solar energy." Gehrlicher is focused in developing photovoltaic energy. Its investment costs have dropped remarkably becoming increasingly competitive as compared to other non-conventional energy sources and even more competitive as regards conventional fossil energy sources. But there are specific issues of high relevance, at least for Chile, such as useful life and behaviour of photovoltaic modules at great heights, with high irradiance, huge daily ambient temperature variations and wind-driven particles and pollution (close to mining areas). There are areas to be researched and this agreement will boost them."
For his part, Gehrlicher Solar España CEO Francisco Espín, commented: "Chile is a priority country for us as I believe it has a great potential in the photovoltaic solar energy industry. Our acquired experience in Europe in the last 18 years, especially in Germany, Spain and Italy, will help us reach a higher efficiency and profitability in our future projects in this country and share this knowledge with the Federico Santa María Technical University. Among the last projects carried out almost worldwide the first photovoltaic roof at a football stadium in Latin America stands out. This system at Pituaçu stadium in Salvador (Brazil) has been recently connected to the grid."
