Native American Footprints Hike - Monrovia Canyon Park

Last Saturday was the first of what everyone hopes wil become an annual late October event.

The 2 hour hike was led by Bear, a member of the park staff, and taught how the Native American Indians lived with the land 200 years ago. The hike instilled a new sense of respect for nature and covered how they were able to provide for all their needs by using what was available from the land around them.

The hike was too short at 2 hours and demand was so great that a 2nd hike was added in the afternoon. People stayed around long after the hikes were over to continue to ask questions and talk.

When this comes around next year, don't miss it.

Monrovia Living Spaces Is Now Open

The new Living Spaces store in Monrovia is now open, and apparently ahead of schedule.

There was a sign last week announcing an early November opening.
This photo was taken a little after 11am this morning and there were already a lot of people there to have a look.

I'm looking forward to this fountain. It's being placed right at Myrtle Avenue, front and center to the library.

It took me awhile to find even this one to photograph. As you can see in the photo, they get no respect.

So common not that long ago, now on the verge of extinction.

As promised, this one goes back to the post last Friday.

This was taken shortly after he had chased a smaller male away.

He slowly sauntered back and all the other deer fell in behind as they walked up the street.

The look of cool superiority on his face shows that he knows exactly who's in charge.

Spotted this young deer on the side of the road.

If you click the photo and look closely, you'll see she has a strand of something draped over the top of her head. Very cute.

There were quite a few deer in this spot. Monday I'll show you who was protecting them.

This looks to be one of the bear proof trash bins showing up in the residential neighborhoods in and around the foothills of Monrovia. Bears are smart but those little clasps could be a problem.
