Greetings Butterflies,

So exciting news about yours truly, I was recently featured on a news television segment appropriately titled "News Butterfly Market Place" I kid you not and no, I am not the producer of the show. Crazy, I know! but then again it's not right? I have been working toward this moment for years now so of course my debut on television would be a show after my namesake.

The show aired in the Tri State area to potentially seven million people on Saturday January 21st, 2012 at 1:00pm I invite you to review and feel free to leave comments.

Private Label photo shoot

Greetings Butterflies,

I know I have been slack with the post but it is only because so much is going on!!! I would like to submit for your review some photos of some garments I created under my private label company for Designer Yasemin Akkaya! Yasemin is from Turkey but this lady is all business. I had a blast working with her, her design concepts and fresh and fun but you decide for yourself. The actual mock ups are on their way but for now enjoy a peek of what goings on in the back room.

We have a passion for fashion and it shows.

At the end of the day you really have to love what it is you do. I am so fortunate to be able to make a living bringing dreams into reality. I share in Yasemin's joy today because I was able to assist her reach for the stars. You have got to love it when at the pieces come together.

I wish Ms. Yasemin Akkaya much success in her career she is off to a great start.

The Night that was My Fashion Show

Greetings Butterflies,

I am not totally sure what absolute joy really looks like but these days if you look at me you would think that I peeked in joy's it's closet and got me some. All the events that lead up to the day of the fashion show seem like a blur now but what I do remember vividly was the pangs of fear, and nervousness I felt hours leading up to the show. All sorts of thoughts raced in my mind. I kept hearing "was I enough"? I kept telling my self "I was" but the little voice would not shut up.

Arriving at the venue was like everything was in slow motion but I had a team an actual glam squad. There was Chad Aron my hairstylist, Eliza Deck my beauty consultant and her lovely assistant and Hillary Flowers never left my side. Once we were in the venue Lair we were introduced to the people in charge and one person in particular was Larry, Larry went out of his way to assist. He told me that he could recreate our quarters how ever we wished to accommodate us. He said don't worry I am like McGuiver I can create a rack for you and set you all up. I started to breath signs of relief instantly. In minutes I had a rack with hangers galore and Hillary and I were off. Not too long afterwards the ladies started showing up and it was one beautiful girl after another.

I tried to speak to each one for a moment get to know a little about them and try to figure out what they would really feel sexy in and pumped about wearing. Let's just say these ladies were professional and did not fuss at all. They were happy with every outfit given to them we did have a fitting issue here and there but nothing a safety pin could not fix up. It did get intense for a moment when girls were waiting for hair and make up and people were moving all about but in the chaos I thought to myself I love this. I want to do this forever, Yes, I want to have fashion shows until I am old and gray and in the way.

The music quieted down and I heard Hillary making an announcement it was time for all my visions to take a walk and I was elated. We were in a sub-level section and all the girls were lined up on the stairs and one by one they walk pasted me to a clamoring of flashing lights and crowd members cheering for their favorites. I think I levitated a little. It was an awesome experience and to think it's only the begging.

We are gearing up for the Fall/Winter 2011 2012 season and I thought I would roll out some of our new designs. Give you a preview of what is on it's way to you. I know it's hard to say goodbye to Summer but at least we have great items to look forward to, for our fall wardrobe.

Rainforest print gets an update with Suede flowers.

Great handle makes a lux statement over the shoulder or hand held.

The flower design process uses a number of mediums that we think you will appreciate. Leather crafting this fall will make a splash.

This weekend I worked the Maker Fair at the New York Hall of Science my section was hosted by Bust Magazine and dobbed the Craftacular it was really nice to work this fair. There were so many cool people, I enjoyed my day, the Bust team are professionals and great to work with and I had a nice time chatting with other crafts people there. I learned that the design on the back of my blue dress was named yo yo's who knew lol, yall are so funny to me but any way. I thought I would share some of my work here and what the set up looked like.

Design feature: The diamond dress

Greetings Butterflies,

  Today's design feature is my diamond print, Diamond Dress.  As you know when I pick patterns I look for unique prints, prints that I can work with that I can tell a story with.  To me when the textile designer is working on his print, I feel as if he wants to express something to me.  Better yet, I try to interpret what he was trying to convey and than I add to it, I expound upon it I downright shout about it.  In this feature I wanted to bring out the simple but elegant print.

  I feel that the woman who is drawn to this dress is no wall flower, I think she is quite the opposite she is confident and bold, she knows how to work a room and when she enters that room everything goes still for a moment.

A post script: I rarely do one of these I think this is the first one, however darlings I must tell you about this dress!!! if I were a man this would be my female magnet. I wanted to write something else but lets just keep it p.g. shall we. Anywho, I have been vending at a local boutique lately and decided to bring my diamond dress out for a little exposure to my designs and the response has been overwhelming (thank you everyone really!!) All sorts of folks have been stopping by and giving me complements on her. To a designer that is considered designing gold! a little like making it to the next week of trials on project runway or better yet winning that weeks challenge. So this is a big fat thank you to all of you that boutique shop an think that this is a cool outfit I am truly grateful and inspired to do more.

What's Nit working on now?

   This post is a design feature, I will be hosting a fashion show this weekend and I want this dress to walk the runway.  In these pictures I am showing how much fun it is (not) working with sequins.  In order to get a flat hem or seam you must remove the sequins from the seam allowances so that all your seams lay flat.  I literally spent four hours just getting those little buggers out of an area no larger than half and inch wide.  Oh, I just had a thought since I was covered in those sequins this would be a great photo op for the work room floor, it looks like a fairy lost all her sprinkles on my floor.  Fun stuff enjoy.

However the finished product is always worth the effort.

We are in the middle of a heatwave and I do mean middle, yesterday the temperature was one hundred and two. I think that was the high temp for the day, I could be wrong it could have been higher. Today's high temp was a mere one hundred...WTH... Anywho, I am really not complaining I love the heat and all the fun in the sun there is to be had out here.

I went supply shopping today and I thought I would share with you what I am up to. So I am designing earrings for an event and this is really fun work. So enjoy and stay cool!

Greetings Butterflies,

I know this blog is all over the place and I said that I would separate the personal post from the fashion post, however my life is meshed together and so are these posts. Okay, I will post all the photos I have been holding on to for over a year now and than I will edit down, hows that? I wouldn't hold my breath or anything like that but I will try.

Today's post is about a fabric I purchased in the garment district a while back that I liked so much that I went and purchased it in bulk. It is a light weight knit very sheer and attractive. I want to create a few pieces with this material, draping this fabric would work as well it is really luxurious to the touch but we will see. Here is my first item a dress with silk trim.

One of my good friends Knit Heru was able to get this garment and a jacket I made into a photo shoot. The pictures are pretty large but the model really made this outfit come to life.

Retrospective

Hola Butterflies,

I know I have been M.I.A (missing in action) for a while now and the reason being is that I have been busy building my business base which any Entrepreneur can tell you is a time intensive project. Solidification of my business model and making sure I can step away from my shop and it runs as I had intended is a major undertaking. At the end of the day it's about your team. The people you put in charge and trust to represent you, building that working relationship with them and respect is critical for your operations survival.

Although it has been hectic it has not been all work and no fun. I did take a trip to the Caribbean and visited a few of our states this past summer so I can say I balanced out the hard work with a few rewards along the way. I am now turning my focus on branding and expanding the brand globally. Of course? Why not? I am not one to think local when there is a planet full of potential shoppers awaiting to meet me and my fabulous company!

I welcome you to travel with me along my journey in pursuit of global domination.
