AfricaGems Visits the Zambian Children's Fund

AfricaGems Proudly Donates 1% of Gross Sales to the Zambian Children's Fund

Marc Sarosi, of AfricaGems.com visited the Zambian Children's Fund facility located in Lusaka Zambia in April of 2011. Here is a brief video that I took during my visit.

The facility is located about 15 kilometers north of Lusaka. It serves 100 orphaned Zambian children by clothing, feeding and most importantly educating them through high school. The children are housed in a series of small home which are headed by a "mother", who herself is a widower, mostly from their husbands dying of HIV. I was very impressed by the level of cleanliness and especially by the school, which by Zambian standards was very clean and well equipped.

Let’s talk for a moment or two about Gold and Diamond Prices. Given the state of the economy, it is no surprise they are going up in price. Market prices go up for commodities / durable goods and gold and diamonds being commodities / durable goods and also things that have had value as “mediums of exchange” (money) for thousands of years, their rising prices should come as no surprise to anyone. The number of gem quality diamonds that are discovered in the mining of industrial diamonds is proportionately very small thereby making gem quality diamonds rare and valuable. Mining strictly for gem-quality diamonds would be so astronomically costly that the price for even a small diamond would be prohibitive to all but the very wealthy.

As I sit and write this, the rain has stopped at least temporarily. It is supposed to be back with a good chance of more tonight and tomorrow. It has been dark, gloomy and damp for a while now. The bright spot in my day is writing to let you know about our new website look and feel.

AfricaGems is starting its 27th year in business and our 14th year on the Internet. Wow, how we have grown and changed over the years. I’ve had the good fortune to work with some super people who keep our website up to date and have done a wonderful job of re-designing our website to give it it’s fresh bright new look. I have also had the good fortune to have wonderful clients and friends. Needless to say, without them there would be no need for a website. Thinking about my clients is another bright spot in my otherwise dreary day.
