Inbound links tell the search engines how important your page is. The keywords are critical. On page optimization really is more about avoiding the mistakes than it is about propelling your site to the top of the search engines. Your need to know the keywords and you need to do the on-page optimization so that as you build links and you start rise in the search engines, you are rising for the right keywords and showing up in the right searches were your customers and prospects are searching for you.

The more links you have, the more high quality inbound links, the more your pages will start to rise in the search engines.

By knowing what your page is about it puts your page in the proper index. How many and the quality of your links is what they use to determine where you should be placed in the index. Realizing this, and I know this is an oversimplification of any search engine algorithm, but nonetheless it is at the core.

Obviously they include a multitude of factors that help them deliver the very best results for their user.

What is keyword density, and why it is important?

Keyword density is the number of times a particular keyword is used on a web page, in relation to the total number of words on a page. Search engines calculate the keyword density of web pages in order to rank pages according to the search query. To get higher engine rankings, your web pages must have the optimum keyword density.

What is the optimum keyword density?

The keyword density of your web pages must not be too high or too low. If too low, your pages won’t rank highly for search query. And if it’s too high, the search engine might penalize your site. Many search engine experts recommend a keyword density of 1% to 7%.

When people want to purchase something online they go through three phrases:

Research phase

Information gathering phrase

Purchase phrase

At each phrase they use different types of keyword phrases. At phase one web surfers usually start with general keywords. After web surfer find information about available products or services, they will start to use more domain specific keywords. As soon as they know that kind of product they want they start to use specific keywords.

Phase 1: Keywords for browsing

During the first reaseach phrase web surfers are usually looking for information only. They use general keywords to find information. For example is they a looking for an mp3 player they will use “mp3 player” or “web design” keywords. There are a lot of information on the internet about that contain such term, so ranking high for these keywords is very difficult. Also it is rarely that web surfer who uses such a generic keyword will purchase something.

Phase 2: Keywords for comparing

In this phase, web surfers know what type of product that want and narrow their selection. At this stage they will know what kind of the product they want, so they will use more specific keywords i.e “iPod mp3 player.” or “montreal web design.”

At this stage people are more ready to buy. Comparing keywords are one of the most useful to use for your search engine optimization campaign. They are used less often, but they will lead to more sales, and it is must easier to get high search ranking position.

Phase 3: Keywords for buying

At this stage, web surfer know what they what to purchase and they are just looking for the best deal. They will use most specific keywords i.e “Apple iPod mp3 player 10 GB” or “Montreal Web Design” CMS OR “Content Management System”.

At this stage people are ready to buy. However you you might not make much sales if you sell very competing products.

The best keywords for search engine optimization

To get the best results keywords for comparing are the best keyword to use for search engine optimization. People are looking for a solution to their problem, and they are ready to buy.

A ‘keyword phrase’ is one or more words that describe your business, they are an important part of web design and search engine optimization (SEO) process. Keyword phrase are used by visitors who are using search engines to find desired information.

These are the standard features of an optimized web page:

The title tag: This is short text that describe the page and shows at the top of your browser window. It is what search engines use to display link title. You should include your primary and secondary keyword phrase (i.e [Web Design Montreal - SEO, Hosting, eCommerce).

The meta-description: If the description tag contains the search term people enter, Google will display your description in the results instead of a auto generated description fragment. For example this is what Google will display when you search for "web design" for websitecenter.ca domain.

Google displays metadata and highlights keywords "web design" for websitecenter.ca

Headings and subheadings: The keywords that are used in the page content should be used in headings and subheadings.

Page content: You need to create content for people but also optimize for search engines. Keyword phrases should be used throughout the text. But don’t stuff keyword for the sake of it. If you do search engines might consider your site unreliable and penalize you for it.

Links on a page: Links describe that the page is and linked page is about.

Alt and title text: Since search engine can’t understand the content of the image, alt tags are used the describe the content of an image. Alt text is good for both accessibility and optimization.

Our approach to web design and application development is different from the typical ‘heavy weight’ development process that was popular, but proved to be ineffective.

Old waterfall model of development is a sequential design process, that emphasizes requirement gathering and planning. It originates in the manufacturing and construction industries; highly structured physical environments in which after-the-fact changes are prohibitively costly, if not impossible.

Instead, we are following more ‘lightweight’, agile approach that favors iterative and incremental development. Agile development emphasizes working software as the primary measure of progress.

Instead of wasting time by over-specifying we prefer to evolve our requirements and solutions, so we do just enough planning for a weekly iteration. Every week, we meet with the stakeholders to discuss the progress, set the priorities and select several features to implement that bring most value to the client.

We prefer close collaboration between our team and our clients, face-to-face communication (as more efficient than written documentation) and frequent delivery of new deployable business value.
