VIT ENGINEERING ENTRANCE EXAMINATION (VITEEE – 2010)

VITEEE 2010 is going to be held on April 17, 2010 and The admission forms are now available at various post offices across the country.
Eligibility

* A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with a minimum average of 60% of marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB)
* A pass in 10+2 or its equivalent with 50% average marks in Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics or Biology (PCM / PCB) for candidates belonging to SC/ST and Students hailing from Jammu & Kashmir and from the North Eastern States of Assam, Meghalaya, Manipur, Tripura, Sikkim, Nagaland, Mizoram and Arunachal Pradesh

* Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics (PCM) candidates are eligible for all the programmes
* Physics, Chemistry & Biology (PCB) candidates are eligible only for B.Tech. Bioinformatics, Biotechnology & Biomedical Engineering programmes

Application Forms

VITEEE-2010 Application Form can be obtained against cash payment of Rs.750/- from the various Post Offices listed.
Candidates can obtain the application form in person from the VIT University at Vellore (or) from the Administrative Office, New No. 6, (Old No. W-73), Second Street (Opposite Towers Club), Anna Nagar, Chennai – 600 040 (Phone: 044-42016555, 65480555, Fax: 044-26222555), by handing over a Demand Draft for Rs.750/- drawn in favour of “VIT University”, payable at Vellore.
Candidates can also obtain the application form through post by sending a Demand Draft for Rs.750/-drawn in favour of “VIT University”, payable at Vellore, with a covering letter addressed to “Admissions Officer”, VIT University, Vellore- 632 014, requesting for the application form and indicating their complete postal address.

Qualification for BE

The candidate should be pass in 12th grade ,A Level, IB,American 12th grade or equivalent with physics,Mathematics and English with chemistry or biotechnology or computer science or biology or statistics or engineering drawing as optional subjects for admission to BE and a minimum marks of 50% in Physics,Mathematics and any one of the optional subjects.
Admissions

Admissions are done on the basis of rank in all India EPSI National admission Test(ENAT 09).The test duration is of 2.30 hours and consists of 240 multiple choice questions(MCQ) of the objective type.The approximate distribution of questions is as follows: Physics- 60 questions, Chemistry- 60 questions, Mathematics- 80 questions,English & General aptitude –40 questions. Each question carries one mark and their is no negative marking and above all the score would be flashed as soon as you finish the exam.

The test is an online test that goes for about a month,where the students have to choose the date for the examination beforehand
Application Form

Candidates are required to send the FORM which can be filled online here or can be brought from the AXIS bank and SBI bank branches (Take a look for the bank branches here-) + DD/Challan for Rs 1000 drawn on ‘Manipal University’ payable at Manipal or Udupi on or before 2nd March, 2009

The candidates have to select the date for the examination. Candidates applying for BE can choose the slots from 10th March to 19th March 2009 here
Scholarships

Candidates applying for BE course and within the first 1000 ranks of the respective merit list are offered 100% freeship. Such freeships are limited and the numbers will be as decided by the University. The freeship will cover only the course fee payable for the particular course of study. The candidate will however be required to pay the registration fee and caution deposit payable at the time of admission. The freeship will not cover the expenses such as hostel accommodation, books etc.

Tips for the examination

The exam is overall simple with basic questions,the requirement is speed,I too have given the examination and my rank was 250 and my marks was 169/240.As their is no negative marking try to attempt all the questions and remain calm during the examination.Also try to take a date for the examination just after the AIEEE,it would help you a lot.

Their are many other courses provided by the Manipal university though here I have covered only about BE for other courses take a look at the site or in the prospectus

I may have missed many things in this post so try to go through the prospectus and also take a look at the site here .If you have any queries just reply to the post and I would try to solve it.

Eligibility Criteria

For admission in BITS in Integrated First Degree programmes Candidates should have passed the 12th examination of 10+2 system from a recognized Central or State board or its equivalent with Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics. Further the candidate should have obtained a minimum of aggregate 80% marks in Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics subjects in 12th examination, with at least 60% marks in each of the Physics, Chemistry, and Mathematics subjects and should have adequate proficiency in English.

Students who are appearing for 12th examination in 2009 or who have passed 12th Examination in 2008 only are eligible to appear in the BITSAT-2009 test. BITSAT-2009 Test Format:

As usual the BITSAT-2009 will be of total 3-hour duration (without break). The test consists of four parts:
Part I : Physics
Part II : Chemistry
Part III : (a) English Proficiency and (b) Logical Reasoning
Part IV : Mathematics
All questions are of objective type (MCQ’s); each question with choice of four answers, only one being correct choice. Each correct answer fetches 3 marks, while each incorrect answer has a penalty of 1 mark. No marks are awarded for not attempted questions. There will be 150 questions in all. The number of questions in each part is as follows:

Physics 40
Chemistry 40
English Proficiency 15
Logical Reasoning 10
Mathematics 45
Total: 150
If a candidate answers all the 150 questions (without skipping any question), the candidate will have an option of attempting 12 (twelve) extra questions, if there is still time left.

AIPMT 2010 important dates and info

The All India Pre-Medical/Pre-Dental Preliminary Entrance (AIPMT) Examination is held every year on 1st Sunday of April. In the year 2010, the first Sunday falls on 4th April, 2010 which is EASTER SUNDAY. Accordingly, Board has decided to fix the date of Preliminary Stage Examination on 11th April, 2010 (Second Sunday), though the IIT JEE 2010 has been fixed on the same date so the CBSE has rescheduled the AIPMT Preliminary Examination on 3rd April, 2010 (Saturday).

Though the AIPMT Final Examination would be held on 16th May, 2010(Sunday) according to the schedule.

The pattern of AIPMT 2010 for both Preliminary and Final Stage Examinations would be OBJECTIVE.

The number of attempts which a candidate can avail at All India Engineering/Architecture Entrance Examination shall be limited to 03(three) uniformly for all the candidates in consecutive years. Candidates passed +2 in 2007 or before or appearing in 2011 are not eligible to appear in AIEEE-2010.

Tips to crack AIEEE and IIT JEE 2010

Hardly a month left for the IIT JEE, I think this is the right time to write this topic.

First of all I would be writing about the IIT JEE 2010

1. First of all after the board examination don’t try to pick up the new topic which you haven’t studied till yet.
2. If your main aim is IIT JEE then you should try to read the basics for the chapters you have already prepared, as their wouldn’t be even a single question which you would find in the books,it’s the basics that help while solving the examination.
3. Try to go through the compendiums once, they may come in handy while solving the examination.
4. IIT JEE is not like a war against time,their is plenty of time if you solve the paper systematically.
5. Never try to go for all the questions,if you are sure of 60% paper then it’s pretty enough to get a good rank in IIT JEE,this time the cutoff was 175 out of 489 so you can expect the percentage.
6. Their is surely going to be lot of questions from cyclic compounds in chemistry so be sure to do them thoroughly,chemistry is the most scoring part in the paper
7. My personal pattern of solving the examination is chemistry,physics then mathematics.Try to give about 45 minutes to chemistry,55 minutes to physics and the rest to mathematics and also spare 5 minutes in the end to recheck.
8. Don’t stick to one question if you think that the question of 3 marks would take more then 5 minutes then leave it and try at the end ,also if you are not able to solve the question move to the next one,not waste much time on single question.
9. Try to mark the answers simultaneously when you are solving the paper,though many students do mark the answers in the end so plan your time accordingly.

Here are the few tips for AIEEE

1. After the boards you would be having about 30 days to prepare the syllabus means you have to prepare around 3 chapters a day.It’s not a tough task in chemistry,if you have studied chemistry for the boards and know the concepts then you could do it within a week,then remains mathematics and physics.Try to revise physics in 10 days and mathematics in about 14 days or so.First of all revise mathematics,then physics and finally chemistry in the end.
2. In physics be sure to do the practicals thoroughly,their would be lot of questions from that part.
3. Also analyse the previous 3 years paper and see which chapters are given much importance and which are given less,this would help in preparing your schedule.
4. Also while studying for AIEEE try to do as much questions as you can,don’t try to go for very tough books,this would built confidence in you.Most of the questions in AIEEE are taken from books
5. While solving the AIEEE paper you have to be quick so don’t waste more then half an hour in chemistry while solving the paper,most of the questions would be subjective type which requires less solving,and then don’t waste more then 1 hour in physics and utilize rest of the time in Mathematics
6. I have seen that almost everytime their would be a simple question which you think you would be knowing but their would be no solution to that question,so basically don’t try to solve the question twice,if you get the answer during the first attempt then it’s good otherwise leave the question.
7. Don’t get nervous while solving and try to do 70% of the paper,it’s enough to get a rank in top 1000.

So basically the summary of this long article is that plan your schedule and follow it,if you think that you have to complete particular portion in a day then it should be done whether you have to stay awake the whole night.Don’t get nervous during the examinations and leave the question if you are unable to solve it.Don’t waste much time on the question and also don’t study on the last day of the examination

And one thing more you shouldn’t be reading this article,if you are reading it then you are wasting time on your desktop be sure to stay away from desktops,mobiles and television for a month :)

The information about IIT JEE 2010 has been published by the IIT’s on their following site.The IIT JEE 2010 is going to be held on April 11,2010.

The JEE examination would be objective type as expected and would contain 2 papers of 3 hours each Paper-1 would be held from 9 AM to 12 noon and the Paper-2 would be held from 2 PM to 5 PM.Each paper would have separate sections for Physics,Chemistry and Mathematics and would be designed to test comprehension,reasoning and analytical ability of the candidates.

The candidates would have the option of submitting the application form both offline and online.

The IIT JEE 2010 paper has just finished and few of my friends who have given the paper.We would be posting the full details after going through the paper soon. We have just gone through Paper 1 and it seemed to be on a bit easier side. The chemistry as always was the easiest of all,the physics was also not so tough,mathematics contained some tricky questions though if you have studied thoroughly for the exam they can be solved.

We are just going through the second paper,the initial reactions of the students say that the paper was much tougher then the previous years,though it was at par with the IIT’s standards,also the introduction of partial marking in some questions would definitely increase the cutoff marks

Contrary to the minimum cutoff in individual subjects in 2008,the minimum cutoff for each subjects in 2009 was 11, 11 and 8 marks in Chemistry, Mathematics and Physics, respectively.We are expecting the cutoff to Increase this time marginally remain almost the same this time.

The AIEEE 2009 paper has just been held today i.e on 26th April.The paper was of 432 marks with 30 questions in each section. According to the initial reactions of the students the paper was comparable with the previous year exam.

After analyzing the paper,we found chemistry and physics bit easier and mathematics was at par with the previous year examination.

The Predicted AIEEE 2010 cutoff would be posted soon till then check the AIEEE 2009 cutoff. Sorry for the delay guys,here is the predicted cutoff for AIEEE 2010

Majority of Pakistanis call India a threat, US enemy

WASHINGTON: Though terror groups continue to strike in their country, a majority of Pakistanis still consider India as a major threat, view America as an enemy and are far less concerned about Taliban and al-Qaida.

While Pakistanis express serious concerns about the US, they have also deep worries about neighbour and long-time rival India than extremist groups within Pakistan, according to the prestigious Pew Research Centre opinion poll carried out inside Pakistan.

"When asked which is the greatest threat to their country - India, the Taliban or al-Qaida - slightly more than half of Pakistanis (53 per cent) choose India, compared with 23 per cent for Taliban and just 3 per cent for al-Qaida," it said.

However, despite the deep-seated tensions between India and Pakistan, most Pakistanis want better ties with India.

Roughly seven-in-ten (72 per cent ) said it is important for relations with India to improve and about three-quarters support increased trade with India and further talks between the two rivals, it said.

Inspite of pumping in billions of dollars in economic and military aid, the US image in Pakistan was at its lowest ever among the 22 nations included in the poll. Fifty-nine per cent of the respondents described America as an enemy and only eight per cent trusted President Barack Obama.

The Pakistanis saw little threat from Taliban and al-Qaida and only 25 per cent of the people said it would be bad for Islamabad if Taliban takes over again Afghanistan.

While 18 per cent said it would be good for Pakistan 57 per cent were not concerned.

State Department spokesman P J Crowley conceded that there is a huge trust deficit between the US and Pakistan.

"We understand - and the Secretary (of State) in her recent trip and also in her trip last October - understand that there's a deficit in trust in our relationship. There are those in Pakistan who recall and sense that they were abandoned by the US and the international community, going back 20 years or more," he said.

Crowley said the US has worked hard in recent months to try to turn this relationship around.

"I think we recognise that this was not going to occur overnight. We have tried to communicate forcefully to not only the government, but also to the people directly, that the US is committed to the future of Pakistan," he said.

"We are, in fact, a partner. I think we're not surprised that people want to see fruits of this partnership; that's exactly what we're trying to do. It goes back to what the Secretary announced in Islamabad last week - concrete projects that - on energy, on health, on education that will create tangible results so the people of Pakistan can see it. And when they see it, then we would expect to see those poll numbers prospectively improve," he said.

Ranbir, Katrina caught

On Jan 1 we had reported that Ranbir Kapoor and Katrina Kaif had coordinated their trips to
New York City. The transatlantic rendezvous continues it seems, as reports have been pouring in of the duo spending some quality time in London recently.

Katrina had been shooting in Spain for Zoya Akhtar’s film Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara and took a break to spend some time with her family, as she could not be with them for her birthday (16th July).

She took a week’s break to be in London with her sisters. Katrina left Spain on the 25th and is in London currently.

She will be returning to the sets of the film on the 31st of this month. On the other hand, Ranbir Kapoor, who was shooting in Delhi, also landed up in London to shoot an ad film. He was in London until yesterday. Then he left for Cape Town in South Africa to finish the other half of the same ad film.

Our source said, “There have been rumours about Ranbir and Katrina for some time now. Both of them have denied any possibility of a relationship so far and on earlier occasions too both have denied being with each other overseas.

However, the fact is that both of them were at the same place and a meeting could not have been averted.” We sent several text messages to both Ranbir and Katrina but they chose not to reply. We understand why.

US oil spill

Both Gary Coons and Nathan Cullen are criticizing Enbridge after the company's pipeline in Michigan spilled 3.8 million litres of oil.
"This latest Enbridge spill is a reminder that all the promises in the world from big oil companies can't protect our rivers and coastlines if the BC Liberals let this pipeline go forward," said North Coast MLA Gary Coons, "Instead of listening to British Columbians, who have said loud and clear that they are not willing to take this risk, the BC Liberals are pandering to one of their major campaign donors."
"Enbridge has been mailing out glossy pamphlets claiming that their technology is so good nothing can go wrong," said Skeena MP Nathan Cullen. "However, the major spill in Michigan is just the latest in a trail of leaks that has people questioning their promises."
Enbridge plans a twinned pipeline from the Alberta tar sands to Kitimat, a project that has been opposed by First Nations along the route and many islanders.
"The Conservative government is bending over backwards to help oil companies expand with little regard for our environment. They are dismantling our environmental protections in spite of all the lessons showing things can and do go wrong - with devastating results," Mr. Cullen said.
The spill, detected July 26, deposited 3.8 million litres of oil into a Michigan river. Before that, the company has been cited for 30 enforcement actions by the US Pipeline and Hazardous Materials Safety Administration.
