As recent new members of the Apartment Association of Greater Philadelphia (AAGP), the Gentle Clean Carpet Care team attended a new member orientation to become better acclimated with the group.

What is Dry Foam Carpet Cleaning?

Dry foam machines whip shampoo into a foam and apply it to your carpet. Roughly 10% liquid and 90% air is used – thus the term “dry”. The machines themselves are used by some companies and are also available for rent.

Why is Dry Foam a Bad Idea?

In short, it’s a band-aid. Carpets cleaned this way inevitably have to be cleaned sooner and professionally by companies like Gentle Clean Carpet Care that employ a steam cleaning technique.

Variegated carpet, or carpet with different colors and/or patterns, means carpet looks less uniform and dirt is more difficult to spot. The project itself was warranty work as part of Gentle Clean’s relationship with 3M and their Scotchgard™ Stain Protection Plan, but it demonstrates a key concept in carpet care.

The carpet itself was quite dirty – two adults, three children, and a dog walking on the beige carpet each day contributed to the issue.

However, the image of the freshly cleaned carpet at right demonstrates the core problem. Since the carpet is directly adjacent to the wood floor (hard surface), the only surface to absorb dirt from shoes, socks, etc, is the carpet. Even if shoes are clean, they can pick up dirt from the wood and transfer it to the carpet.

The solution is to place one or more mats adjacent to the carpet to act as a dirt deposit – a place for dirt to land before it gets transferred to the nice carpet. You can see more before/after pictures below.

The experts at Gentle Clean Carpet Care recently treated this bleach stain at an apartment complex in Blue Bell.

First, the team had to remove the bleach. Normally, the job ends there, but with bleach, color is actually removed from the carpet.
