(First question answered last, last question answered first...silly me!) Beeson Divinity School in B'ham, AL. They are on the campus of Samford University, but are interdemoninational. I am debating about there or Harvard Divinity. The dean and founder @ Beeson is a Harvard Divinity alum (masters of Th.D.)--he has given me a lot of insight about them now as opposed to when he was a student there. They're kinda...well..."out there" if you get my drift. He suggests I get my M.Div. at a more Christian-centric or focused seminary and look into Harvard for my doctorate, if that is where the Lord leads me. What do you think? BTW, I am Presbyterian (PCA).

Way cool, right?! CH (MAJ) James E. Schaefer gave me your blog (list of chaplain links) as one of his "To-Read" lists for Chaplain and Family Blogs and Insights. He is somewhere out of GA probably close to Atlanta. I live in Chattanooga, TN, so I guess he was the closest chaplain recruiter to me. That was back in SEP 08, now he is on extended TDY, so I've spoken to someone else. I look forward to meeting him because he always closes his V/M or e-mail messages, "Prayerborne!" since he has his jump wings.

Hey Max! Nice to meet you. We're not moving to TN. The kids and I are just visiting for a while. We're waiting on active duty orders for my husband and don't know where we're moving next.

What school divinity school are you planning on attending?

Hi Lt. Amy!

I've recently discovered your blog from a Chaplain recruiter, so I've read a bit of your postings. You and your family seem WAY cool!

I'm a Desert Storm veteran, prior Army, called to the "Muddy Boots Ministry." I'm in the infant stages of it all, just researched it since Sept. 2008 and only yesterday spoke to a liaison. I have selected my divinity school and know it won't be a problem getting in--I was accepted there in 1996 and have an M.S. in another field, but that is another story...

Where in TN are y'all going? Forgive me for not knowing, you've probably already stated that in an earlier posting. Like I said, I've only read the chaplaincy stuff and the latest postings.

In Christ,
Max

The Bible is explicit and clear in 1 Timothy 3 on the qualifications for a Bishop (the early church term for the pastor or head of an individual church body). A bishop then must be blameless, the husband of one wife; vigilant, sober, of good behavior, given to hospitality, apt to teach; not given to wine, no striker, not greedy of filthy lucre; but patient, not a brawler, not covetous; one that ruleth well his own house, having his children in subjection with all gravity; (for if a man know not how to rule his own house, how shall he take care of the church of God?)not a novice, lest being lifted up with pride he fall into the condemnation of the devil.

For this reason the more fundamental and traditional churches will not ordain women (or divorced men) to this position. Unfortunately many churches focus only on these two criteria (probably because they are very easy to confirm or deny).

This does not mean that women are not fully capable of other areas of ministry including teaching, evangelism, counseling and soul winning, it just means that God had very specific requirements for this office of Bishop (the same for Deacons). I would submit that we not put people in the role of chaplain who do not qualify but that we have a position equal in rank and latitude with the chaplain for females who are called to teach, evangelize, counsel and do other essential ministerial work. In this way we can be obedient to God and still fill a vital need within the military.

Maybe if I put my foot down, I'd realize I could touch bottom on my own. Get out of the water, and walk away.

Thanks for your input Amy. I was doing some research on the Perkins-Prothro Ranch in connection with the history of the Wichita Falls based "Perkins-Temberlake" department stores. I lived in Wichita falls as a child and have fond memories of attending the Wichita Falls Boys Club. I was able to go to summer camps thru the Boys Club that were conducted at the Camp Perkins Boy Scout facility north of Wichita Falls back in the lake 50's. Great memories. Sorry to hear of the treatment your folks received at the hands of the heirs of Mr. Prothro's estate. I see where Mr. Prothro died in 2001. My older brother worked at the Perkins Temberlake store in Wichta Falls in the mid to late 50's. He said they were great folks to work with. It is great that you have these very positive memories about your family and your heiritage.

Hi Jenny,
First of all, you are an angel for picking up this puppy and getting her cleaned up. You said you bathed her and put Advantix on her. Did she see a vet? Did the vet do blood tests? If so, they should be able to let you know if she has any of the diseases you are concerned about. I'm sure you know you cannot get Lyme disease or RMS fever from the puppy, only from the infected tick itsef. The Advantix will prevent any ticks from getting on her, and if the vet clears her, love her to pieces. It would be very unlikely that an infected tick would be on the puppy, unattached. We did the same thing, picking up a mix (maltese and yorkie) puppy, cleaned her up, took her to the vet and had shots and Advantix....and I want to tell you...in my life I have never seen such an adorable, sweet, smart precious little girl! I wish you the best of luck.
