OK I HAVEN'T POSTED IN FOREVER, BUT I THOUGHT I'D SHOW YOU WHAT'S HAPPENED THIS PAST SCHOOL YEAR.

It was a very exciting year indeed. Triple threat, in fact. My hair was 1. long enough to actually braid and do fun things with 2. crunchy enough from dying and perms to hold product and curls all day (ie i had movie star hair yeeeah boy) 3. I put color in it so people thought I was cool. I also became in possession of a straightener which I used to curl my hair. Think curling ribbons.

Here goes the hairexperiments in chronological order:

The end. I doubt that anyone still reads this except for my mom. But still, HI MOM. I cut off my hair in a perhaps drunken 2AM bout, but I'm still happy with it and I hope you are too!

Continuing on with our ever-love of Japanese fashion, here are some images from Fur Fur's S/S 2012 presentation. I decided that I'm going to bring back caplets (were they ever here to begin with?), white lace and all.

I think I really want to be a hydrangea spirit, not just for Halloween but eternity. I bet they don't have to take midterms. And if anyone was wondering, the most productive blogging occurs in the midst of working on very important assignments that are due the next day.

You wouldn't be able to guess, but Caroline wanted her picture taken. She actually wore the scarf like that outside too. All I know is that her socks are from Japan and they have a little lacey fringe. I'm wearing Vena Cava x Uniqlo, Gap jean jacket circa 2004, thrifted skirt, mom's boots. And Manic Panic "Enchanted Forest"!

I also want to show you what I am wearing right now via awkward photobooth pictures. I have this slip I found at Housing Works Buy the Bag sale this summer aka I paid approximately $2 for it. I got the belt from Atlantis Attic in Brooklyn. The slip was presumably intended to be worn underneath something else, but I like how light and airy it is and I usually wear it with a shorter black dress underneath. It's fun on windy days (every day in New York?) because I feel like I'm wearing a curtain. This morning I was walking to class and I ran into a friend who said "look at you and your '90s grunge outfit" which I'm sure she meant lovingly. I shed the red plaid and toned it down a notch. Does my hair make everything I wear grungy now?

So, there are 2 more Housing Works Saturday sales left, this week and next week, who's down??

Paris Fashion Week

I haven't looked through that many runway pics from Paris yet, but so far I'm pretty uninspired. Ruffly skirt-suits from Givenchy, stripey circus tents from Chloé? That's not to say I can't appreciate some of the tailoring at YSL or Céline, let's say, but nothing that was really interesting or new.

Three looks I liked from Chloé, Stella McCartney, and Givenchy. They look like they could be part of the same collection almost. I liked the overlaying of textures and similar shades.

The one collection I enjoyed so far-- Balenciaga:

Nicolas Ghesquière was apparently inspired by looking at the archives of Cristobal Balenciaga's designs, even reworking the hat/veil from a 1967 one-seam wedding dress. He was quoted as saying that "a very functional, concept of Cristobal is the idea of the space between the body and the fabric. The clothes float away from the body. It’s one of the big iconic things of Balenciaga. The fluidity of floating is beautiful, but it is something else. An architectural piece floating around the body is very structural. I think it’s something that Balenciaga invented.” I actually really like this collection (although it gets a little too kooky for me at the end). The colors are vibrant, the silhouettes are interesting, and it manages to be futuristic and retro without being too literal.

I'm a fan of the little necktie deal this woman has going. She pulls off a sweet 70s vibe with the wide-legged pants and the trench coat. I have this pair of super bell bottom jeans from paper denim & cloth that I always think are too weird to wear but this fall I am going to wear them. Maybe I'll go all out and wear them with a necktie.

I think all of these pieces are pretty genius. It's like Mexican Dia de los Muertos meets the Flintstones meets Nightmare before Christmas. Where can I get my hands on some bone-patterned fabric!? That shit is awesome.

This obsession has been going on for too long. Platform brogues of some sort need to be mine in the very near future or there will be dire consequences. I'm starting to feel like a black-white creeper combo could do the trick.

Another thing about platform shoes that makes them great is that from what I can gather, Japanese people wear them all the time like it's no big deal. They also wear a lot of other things like it's no big deal (stuffed animals, multiple layers of pants, 8 patterns at once, boots with cloven hooves, crocheted glasses, and pretty much any object that you wouldn't guess could become clothing). So that's definitely a good sign.

Introducing, the most obnoxious color Nessa and I have ever painted our nails. It literally looks like we dipped our fingers in instant atomic nacho cheese. I decided that I really dislike matte nail polish because it dries very streak-ily.

You know it's summer when you can't remember what it feels like to wear a jacket..... Berkeley will soon remind me! Yeahhh 55° and foggy. I'm going home in a week!

I really like big clunky shoes. I initially tried to find cute sandals this summer, but I was too cheap/picky. So instead I bought a pair of black leather high-top converse.... logical. Certain things in my closet need tempering with something a little less girly and boots or heavy shoes or some sort are just the thing. Good for these weirdo east coast summer thunderstorms too!
