Population: estimated 22 million people

Density: 21,000 people / square kilometer

Largest City in India

Slum sanitation:

While Mumbai is home to the highest number of millionaire and billionaires in India, it is at the same time also home to some of the poorest residents in India. Problems of sanitation have become issues in Mumbai due to the rapid rate of urbanization in recent years. Urban growth is happening disproportionately in slums, with large numbers of new migrants to Mumbai coming to these already dense and resource stretched areas.

41.3 % of Mumbai’s population lives in slums (World Population Review, 2016).
Dharavi is the third largest slum in the world home to an estimated 1 million people
Dharavi has a population density of over 277,136/km2, making it one of the most densely populated places on earth (Jacobson, 2007).

Sustainable sanitation:

Sustainable sanitation in Mumbai is not only a question of building more toilets, but is a complex environmental, economic and social issue.

Lack of sufficient infrastructure for a growing population
Failure (until recently) of the government to prioritize sanitation within its policies.
Disconnect between slum residents and formal political channels.

Policies that have attempted to clean up the slums have often made it harder for many families to access clean infrastructure due to increasing pricing of facilities (Desai, 2016).

This weather was caused by TROPICAL CONTINENTAL Air Mass bringing stable ANTICYCLONE Conditions to the UK. The synoptic chart below illustrates this.

Key Questions: But what were the WEATHER HAZARDS associated with this High Pressure System and were exactly were the most extreme conditions?

Read a BBC extract here

Weather Hazard 1# DEATH
In the most extreme cases continuous periods of hot weather can lead to death. Within the UK, during the summer of 2006, 26 people died as a direct result of heat exahustion or over-heating. Across Europe, the situation was much worse - read the BBC article here.

Weather Hazard 2# DROUGHT

Many parts of the UK experienced moderate to high levels of drought. The SE and central areas of England were effected most.

Image below shows a dried up reservoir in West Sussex

An Indirect effect of Drought (water shortages) is the dreaded HOSE-PIPE Ban. Find out where and why such a ban is imposed. Imagine a hot summer without being able to water your garden or wash your car. Now imagine being a FARMER!

It Predicts that China will be the worlds most wealthiest nation)

Economic Wealth in China
China is quickly becoming one of the most important countries in the world; they control a good percentage of the world's trade goods, such as toys for children, small appliances, etc. Some would say that much of what China is selling is plastic junk that breaks quickly. A market flooded with this is a market that will turn elsewhere for the products and China's economy would suffer.
In addition China has large quantities of mineral reserves not to mention fossil fuels.

PROTESTS:

Another issue is that the People's Republic of China has to this day serious issues with human rights. Many of the people are punished severely for small crimes, are expected to work long hours for little pay and often child laborers under the age of 10 can be found in the factories. Any attempts that Obama can make to help this situation would make China a better nation.

China's 'illegal' rule of Tibet:

SEVEN YEARS IN TIBET

- True story of Heinrich Harrer (played by Brad Pitt), an Austrian mountain climber who became friends with the Dalai Lama at the time of China's takeover of Tibet in 1950.

More on China: in last weeks Sun Newspaper, the editor Trevor Kavanah published an interesting story about China. At present, the jet stream is situated to the south of the UK unable to move north due to the high pressure system off the NW coast of the UK. This HIGH PRESSURE SYSTEM is drawing down cold air from the arctic circle and acting like a barrier to the warm, moist air to the south.

<img style="MARGIN: 0px 10px 10px 0px;
