I’m referring not to the protein white but, the most popular center-of-the-plate item eaten today. And not just in Italy, but around the globe. It's Pasta. Surprised? According to the National Pasta Association adults who are health conscious eat pasta three or more times a week. You can keep the pasta dishes exciting by cooking unique shapes and tweaking the sauces. During the warmer weather top pasta with grilled vegetables, chicken or seafood. Here are some tasty suggestions with recipes. Think basil or fresh tomato.

Still not all. I find it so amazing that with just a few strokes back and forth what a dynamic change it can make to the path you have just brushed and the way you feel with zen-like sweeping changes. In many cultures it is a ritual to sweep their walkways each day so they can begin with a clean slate. So many things in life can be approached with the same thought form. When your day gets filled with clutter just clean up your thoughts and floor with the power of the broom. They come in all sizes. Day 187
With so many options available on the spice shelf, why settle for just salt and pepper? Go ahead, experiment and be adventurous. I suggest that spice-newbies try new some new seasonings on chicken (because chicken has neutral flavor) each time you prepare it. Spice it up with curry, cumin or turmeric! You will become comfortable with seasoning and really enjoy it. BTW, that bottle of cumin Aunt Betty gave you as part of your spice-set wedding present 10 years ago—toss it! Not Aunt Betty, but the spice, because spices only have a six month shelf life. Buy spices from a good market that turns over their spices on the shelf often. Then store spices in a cool dark place—that means not in a glass jars above the stove. Summer is an ideal time to expand your spice repertoire, ideal for foods to be grilled. Spice up this weekend Moroccan spin.

Have you ever watched someone working and thought, that looks easy. Or is it that person makes it look easy? I have been told many times "George you make it look so easy on TV." Well- I had been training since I was fourteen and having a camera in my face doesn't faze me anymore. That reminds me of my favorite The Honeymooners episode with Ralph Kramden; humina humina. LOL. Think of it like this. It's sort of like watching a mason laying a brick wall. Looks easy. But I am sure that mason has layed a few thousand bricks and maybe the first few were not so level or plum. It takes years of practice. There are many activities I try and hope that on each attempt I’ll get better at it. Just keep at them.

Here's a segment with Yefim Bronfman, the Grammy Award winning pianist, a true master of dedication to his passion.

Day 187

Sometimes you just need to have a pick-up game, challenge the kids and leave your ego at the sideline. There is nothing better than requesting a rematch from a nine year old. H-O-R-S-E is a game everyone can play even if you haven’t shot hoops for sometime. Time spent with family is priceless and the fresh air will do you good.

HOW TO. A little refresher on how to play with two or more. Player number one shoots from anywhere on the court. If they make the shot, then player number two must duplicate the same shot from the same position. If player number two misses, they receive the first letter from the word horse, ‘H’. However, if player number one missed their original shot; then player number two would be free to shoot from anywhere on the court and, if they make it, force the next player (player number one if there are only two players; or number three if there are more than two players) to try and duplicate their made shots. A player loses the game once they spell the word ‘horse’.
The trick is, keep your eyes open so you can pick up some pointers from the kids.

Day 186
I don’t have much of a sweet tooth and unlike most I can pass at chocolate. However, as a child, it would not be mid summer without my mom whipping up these summer treats. Even though I did not have a sweet tooth I would race my sisters to the table for first dibs. Enjoy!

Use large yellow bananas with the barest green tips. If the bananas have any brown spots they are too ripe. For true decadence, top the bananas with a dollop of sweetened whipped cream and some chopped pecans before serving.

BANANA BOATS

Makes 6 adults servings, or 1 child

6 bananas
Three 1-ounce chocolate bars, broken into small pieces, or 6 Tablespoons mini-chocolate chips
2 cups mini-marshmallows
six 12 inch squares aluminum foil

Split bananas down the inner sides, but do not remove the peels. Spread the peels apart and evenly place the chocolate pieces and marshmallows between the bananas and the peels. Bring the edges of the peels together as closely as possible and wrap each banana in foil.

Grill the bananas for 4-5 minutes; turn them and move them to the cooler edge of the grill for 4 to 5 minutes.

Day 179
It's the start of the week, ahh clean slate. Do you have plans to make this week your best yet? TIP, keep the focus on your dashboard and not the rear-view mirror. Be your own life driver. It doesn’t matter what transpired yesterday. All your doing power is now only in today. This makes such sense because we can not change yesterday, so focus only on today and make plans for the future. So many times as a chef I would have to live up to you are only as good as your next meal. How true that statement applies to the rest of life as well. It still reminds me everyday that the savoring life is truly in the moment.

It was 1934, the height of the Great Depression, when Charles B. Darrow of Germantown, Pennsylvania, showed what he called the MONOPOLY game to the executives at Parker Brothers. What did they say to his pitch? REJECTED! But, with help from a friend who was a printer, Mr. Darrow sold 5,000 handmade sets of the MONOPOLY game to a Philadelphia department store. Response? People loved the game! But as demand for the game grew, he couldn't keep up with all the orders and came back to talk to Parker Brothers again. Did he get to say I told you so? YOU BET! The rest, as they say, is history! In its first year, 1935, the MONOPOLY game was the best-selling game in America. And over its 65-year history, an estimated 500 million people have played the game of MONOPOLY!
What's a summer family get together without a good Monopoly competition? And besides it's the easiest way to collect two hundred dollars.

What do you do now? Does this scenario sound familiar? How many times do we reach this proverbial fork on a daily basis? I’m referring to the decision of choosing a positive reaction (downtown) vs. a negative reaction (uptown). Sort out emotional reactions carefully as it can alter life's outcomes in drastically different directions. Here's my experience, you'll see what I mean. I was returning from a trip on a rainy night. My car was at an airport car park that I always use. I found my car with a flat tire. This caused a major delay returning home. My fork in the road. I decided to wait for help and chalk it up to just one of those experiences. I passed the time, waiting with the park attendant, who kept me out of the rain, offered me a cup of hot coffee and his nice conversation. This experience was also underscored by later finding out that a major auto accident had taken place on the route I would have taken home at that same time. I was thankful for taking the downtown fork.
image robrscott

Day 170
You going to need them for today's fish recipe. It's been raining for days and when there's a chance to step outside and cook, go for it! Soak planks for 30 minutes before you fire up the grill. Make sure the grill is good and hot! Cedar planked fish takes on a wonderful smoky flavor with more flair and a lot less hassle. The plank may be charred, but the fish is perfectly cooked. The technique of cooking on planks is not new. Developed by Indians in the Pacific Northwest, cooking on cedar and alder has been a tradition for centuries.
This weekend when you are running errands, head to the hardware store and pick up some cedar planks. Oh and be sure they are untreated non-resined wood, no thicker than 1 inch. Cedar and alder are popular choices, but mesquite, cherry, peach, apple, and oak also add their own unique flavors. Just give it a try. Enjoy.

image,© Olga Lyubkina
