Form the seller -

“Thank you for looking at this 944 s2 , always garaged and in perfect running order. This 1990 PORSCHE 944 S2 has had only one owner, that has done all the proper maintenance to keep it in perfect original condition. This car has only 51962 original miles as the auto check report shows, has an excellent score for the age and condition. The interior is in original condition with no scuffing or tears to the leather, the interior of this car as you can see in the photos is in awesome condition, aswell the exterior. Everything on this car works the way it did when new , This car has all original manuals, tools and equipment that came with the car,the radio has been changed in order to be able to use mp3 players but i still have the original one as you can see. It recently had all the AC overhaul it has new springs and shocks, belts and everything that has needed doing mechanically has been done. The body is straight with no rust.”

One owner, check. Low miles, check. Immaculate condition, CHECK! All labels, the tool kit, the interior, paint, and engine compartment are darn near perfect. That interior, let’s call it linen in color is really hard to keep clean and it looks flawless. There is just a great deal to like here.

Even better it is available with no reserve, this S2 will sell. The eBay community must be excited as well, thus far there have been 41 bids with a current bid at $12,350. This is a $14-14.5k car all day long, I will be curious to see if potential buyers feel the same way.

Writing on this blog is dangerous for me, because every week I seem to have some car I’m focusing on that has me considering trading my current ride for. The gorgeous BMW M6 we featured last week has me running the numbers in my mind and considering going back to where my motoring memories began, with an ’80s BMW. If the M6 is Mr. Hyde, you could consider this L6 the more tame Dr. Jekyll. A one year only model, the L6 was a luxury edition of the 635CSi, with an extensive leather interior that featured a full leather dashboard and even a leather headliner. The 3.5 liter engine was the same as in the 635CSi, though. With such a short production run, few of these L6s are hanging around these days, which made this particular car in classy Luxor Beige catch my eye.

This 1987 BMW L6 635csi was originally sold at Seattle BMW with the original owner until 2005. Continuous ownership history is known and documented, and the car wears all luxourbeige paint and shows zero structural or surface rust according to the seller. It now has 100,500 miles, factory options include sunroof and automatic transmission. All service records date back to approx. 2005 and are included. The vehicle has been freshly tuned including recent service for fuel filter, full oil change, chassis service and power steering hose replacement.

The luxourbeige paint is in 7/10 condition and is religiously washed/waxed/polished. The body is very straight and the only defects include a small dent on the hood, DR side cracked mirror casing and a protruding defrost vent in the upper dash. These are small enough that they do not come through in photos but I wanted to mention it.

Purchased in the Summer of 2009 and driven as my daily driver without an issue or drama. Maintained with BMW parts at a highly reputable independent shop (Bimmer Clinic in Reseda, CA). I recently bought a Prius for work travel and unfortunately don’t have the garage room that this car deserves.
The original tan leather interior is in 8/10 condition. It has a very clean headliner and all leather dash, and all switches, lights and functions work superbly. Unusual in these cars is the very supple and clean dash pad without any tears or cracks. Original leather seats are supple and without discoloration or cracks and tears, but there is a slight wear mark in the DR seat base.

The powerful 3.5 liter I-6 engine runs out well in town and on the highway. It offers very good throttle response and fuel economy. There are zero leaks/drips/seeps and runs as it should. Clean trunk, looks rarely if ever used, the same for the backseat buckets. Original and 100% complete tool kit in the trunk. The car has a clean title and recently passed the stringent California smog test with ease (good for 2 years).

In addition to standard diagnostic engine and transmission service, RECENT MAINTENANCE HISTORY INCLUDES:

Replaced battery and alternator (12/11)
Replaced main control relay (6/11)
Adjust 6 cylinder valve; install new gasket, cam plugs, spark plugs and breather hose (6/10)
Replace corroded thermo time switch and transmission coolant line (3/10)
Replaced aux fan resistor, fuel filter, oxygen sensor and brake master cylinder (1/10)
Replaced fuel pressure regulator (8/09)

The E24 6-series holds a cult following that has become more and more vocal around the automotive world recently. Admired for the unmistakable landshark aesthetic, the best engineering BMW had to offer and unadulterated 80s charm. Wish I had an extra garage for this beauty.

$11,900 negotiable

The thing that amazes me about this L6 is the leather interior. It’s practically spotless. The greenhouse is rather large on this car so it is no mean feat to keep the all leather interior from cracking, especially parts like the dashboard. The previous owners surely must have give this car the time and attention it deserved. While not as valuable as a similar vintage M6, the rest of the E24 range is appreciating mildly, as people begin to wake up to the modern day classics. With one owner for 18 years, a full service history and mileage that isn’t over the top, I would say the asking price is perfectly reasonable for this car. Given the seller is flexible, if the new owner could get another $500 to $1,000 off, this L6 would be well bought.

From the seller -

“This light weight 1978 Porsche 924 came from the factory with no sunroof and no power windows and somewhere along the line a fiberglass Al Holbert DP look kit was installed consisting of fiberglass: front fenders, rear flares, and a very aggressive and unique ‘shovel nose’ front spoiler. The suspension and brakes are from a 944 and provide the five lug conversion which enables real 7&8 x 15″ Fuchs to be mounted and fill up the wide flares. Rear hatch and spoiler are also from a 944. The motor has a more aggressive cam and flows into a Ansa free flowing exhaust. The interior is very nice with excellent condition carpeting, fabric ‘Porsche’ script 944 seats, dash cap, and stereo with a MP3/iPod cord in the glove box. This is a running and driving 924 but the throwout bearing in the clutch is starting to make some noise and the A/C will need atleast a charge. No signs of any collision or rust thru issues, there is some minor paint bubbling around the windshield. While the body is very sound and the body kit was very well done, the paint is a 10 footer – at best.

One very cool looking 924… and with the prices of the 911, 912, and even the 914 skyrocketing upwards, this unique and cheap to buy/maintain Porsche definately offers value with style. The Fuchs and tires on this 924 alone are worth about a $1,200 – 1,500.00… this whole Porsche can be purchased for not much more than that!”

The seller is correct, this is a 10 footer, maybe a 20 footer at best. The paint is no good, you can see the oxidation in the pictures. The suspension, while from a 944, is not set up correctly and has a bit of a monster truck look to it. I won’t get into the egregious overuse of of emblems, there is no excuse for that.

But what lies underneath is not all that bad. The interior is clean, the Fuchs are a nice option, and if the body work is solid this could be a decent driver with a reasonable re-spray. The question then becomes, at $2k or so is this a worthy investment?

I use the term investment loosely as that and 924 are not synonymous. But you could do much worse in this price range.

~Aaron.

Ah, the holy grail. The sweetest and most forbidden fruit, they only grow more so as the years pass and prices rise. Reader Don’s garage recently doubled to two E30 M3s, so he gave notice to this listing on Craigslist Atlanta for his gorgeous, low-mileage Cinnabarot example. This halo car is in the special category of circa-100k mile cars, having covered just 107,000 miles in its 22 years. Somewhere along the line, it picked up the virus of rust, but Don did it right and took it to VSR1 for a full mechanical restoration, removing all traces of oxidizationitis among other mechanical improvements. One of the two previous owners repainted the Cinnabarot, and Donald installed a full gray interior in place of the original black. All in all, this M3 has had all issues addressed and it shows.

Don’s description of the car:

For sale is my 1990 BMW E30 M3. Brilliant Red with Gray interior. 107,000 miles ( that’s an average of less than 5,000 mile per year) I am the third owner and bought the car in 2009. During that time to present I have had the following work performed:

Installed new air conditioning compressor (Air blows cold!)
New Transmission mounts
Replaced lower control arms and bushings
New Cat and exhaust system (Stromung muffler)
New Heat shield
Various seals replaced
New heater core
Replaced front sway bar end links
All fluids changed.

It has Eibach springs, Koni shocks, front (Sparco) and rear strut bars as well as ground camber plates

A mechanical restoration was performed by Vintage Sports and Restoration in Bow, NH (VRS1). Over $8,000 in receipts from VSR1

The car was previously resprayed and with the exception of a few spots looks very good.

Now…..this car had rust issues. VSR1 repaired (read that as cut out and replaced) all known rust issues during the mechanical restoration. This car is a great daily driver and an excellent candidate for track days. It turns heads, but it is not concours quality. I’ve tried to bring it back to mostly original condition with period correct modifications. It has the original stereo (working), the computer functions, sun roof and electric windows all function. The original interior was black, but I have replaced it with Gray. This car is ready to drive.

I am only selling this awesome automobile because I purchased another E30 M3 and lack of space won’t allow me to keep two. My loss …… your gain!

All props to Donald for taking an imperfect-but-low-mile e30 M3 and saving it from further desecration. The effort and money needed to get rid of all rust and get a well-known shop like VSR1 to address all issues is no small sum. That said, I still think the $20-25k range is reserved for all-original, low-mileage ideals of the model. These M3s are the subject of such lust and scrutiny that provenance and originality go a long way, and while repairs and replacements are costly and necessary, they subtract from the elements that cause perfect M3 prices to skyrocket. A price just under $20k would highlight that this beautiful car hasn’t lived a flawless, climate-controlled life, while garnering the money it deserves for being brought back to such nice condition.

Following on to the E320 Estate we featured not long ago, here’s that car’s open roofed sibling, the E320 Cabriolet. With exception of the 500E/E500 which was sold from 1992-1994 in the US, this particular W124 variant is the Mercedes that holds its value best of that mid 1990s era. Even comparable SLs have a hard time bringing the same kind of numbers. This particular car for sale in Georgia is unreal. It appears to have been stashed away in a collection, racking up just under 6,000 miles. While it’s fairly easy to find these cars with around 20,000 to 30,000 miles, I’ve seen very few under the 10,000 mark. This, then, is quite the unique opportunity.

A 1995 Mercedes-Benz E320 Cabriolet with only 5k miles. This beautiful E320 is Imperial Red over Parchment hides. This hand crafted W124 Mercedes is in museum collector condition. The paint is perfect, no chips or scratches and all original. The wheels are perfect and have never been repaired or painted. The interior is flawless with no wear. The tires are completely brand new including the spare. The spare was replaced with a new tire as well due to time. All the service is up to date including a brand new battery. This stunning cabriolet is a one owner vehicle and was purchased new on September 6, 1995 by the original owner and then later transferred ownership to his spouse. All paperwork including original MSO from 1995 comes with the vehicle. It is mechanically sound and would be great for a collection or daily driver. This E320 is the finest example of all original E320 we have ever seen.

This car transports me right back to 1995. The engine bay is spotless, there is no visible wear on the seats or leather wrapped steering wheel and the paint has such depth it looks like you could dive right in. While nothing substitutes for inspecting a car in person, this E320 appears to be the nicest example I’ve seen since I was back in high school and these things were still rolling out of the factory. The price, however, almost made me shed a tear. The best E320 Cabriolet these days may sell in the low $30,000 territory. Cresting $40,000 is pushing the envelope. Or is it? Personally, if I was in the position to do so and could grab this car for around $35,000, I’d pull the trigger. Why? Consider the current E Class Cabriolet. While it may come with a warranty and be more advanced technically speaking, it starts at over $57,000. And honestly, for that money, it can’t match the timelessness and old school quality of the 1995 model.

1993 Arctic White Mercedes-Benz 190E 2.6. 1-Owner, with only 68,417 original miles and palomino MB Tex interior. Beautiful Mercedes that is in well above average condition inside and out for the year and mileage. This vehicle has been adult owned, driven and garage kept its whole life. In addition, we have all the original owner’s manuals. This Mercedes has numerous features including: power sunroof, 4-Speed automatic transmission, power passenger seat, 2.6L I6 engine, 4-Wheel ABS brakes, wood trim interior, power windows and much more. This is a true find.

This vehicle is in well above average condition both inside and out for the year and mileage. The exterior is in above average condition for they ear and mileage. The wheels are in good condition, and the tires are brand new. The interior of this vehicle is in above average condition for the year and mileage. This Mercedes was owned by a NON-smoker. Mechanically, all systems are functional. It drives and looks fantastic. In addition, it has passed our high standard 100-point inspection.

At $7,995, I’d say this car is priced in the ballpark. True, you can get a later C class with more modern features and similar mileage for the same money. But if you are basing a used purchase solely on how new the car is, this 190E isn’t for you. This W201 represents everything from the modern classic (or “youngtimer,” as the Germans would call it) era that made Mercedes-Benz great: over the top build quality, timeless design and the durability that would see you through for hundreds of thousands of miles.

Porsche was one of the first car companies to offer a turbocharged engine and this car, the Porsche 930, was where that experiment began. Before they were withdrawn from the US market in 1980 and reintroduced in 1985, the first 930s to hit these shores were notorious beasts. With a propensity for oversteer due to a rear engine layout and a fair bit of turbo lag, these were not easy cars to drive. Those who mastered the quirks, though, had a competitive advantage in this car compared to other performance vehicles of the era. The 1978 model saw an increase to 300 horsepower, which was a massive amount for its day. This particular 930 was owned by a mature gentleman and has seen only 28,000 miles. It also benefitted from an extensive refresh 2,000 miles ago, as the seller comprehensively documents.

Rewind back to 1978 and imagine a car so powerful that it could hit 60 mph in less than 5 seconds. Imagine a car that literally turned the world upside down, the car was the Porsche 930. First introduced in 1975 with a non-intercooled turbocharged 3.0 flat 6 it set records and was the object of lust for every car lover on the planet. It not only captivated people with its power, it stirred passion for its flared fendered in your face appearance and it garnered respect for the many people it killed with it’s tricky at the limit handling. What a car! Now imagine this car with almost twice that power….

In 1978 Porsche refined the formula slightly by bumping displacement to 3.3 liters, adding intercooling and upgrading the brakes and suspension. The changes were a huge leap forward and transformed an amazing car to a life changing one. These cars were incredibly hard to come by, in fact Porsche imported just 461 1978 930 Turbo’s and this car is the very last 1978 made, being VIN # 9308800461!

This 930 was a very special car being a Paint to Sample (PTS) car when ordered new. I have been unable to cross reference the paint code to get an official paint color but to me it looks like Porsche Slate Gray Metallic. It has been a desert SW car its entire life and has covered just 28k miles.

The car originally belonged to an older gentleman who drove the car sparingly. Due to excessive sitting the car needed some updates and oil leaks fixed. It was taken to the Porsche store for this work and the classic slippery slope started…. At 26k miles this particular car underwent a very thorough mechanical refresh and not a penny was spared. If you are looking for a car that has had a cost no object build here it is! You couldn’t duplicate this for $100k. Everything is well documented with thousands in receipts from the best vendors in the Porsche business.
Here is what has been done:

Exterior:
New in the box genuine RUF 9×17 front and 10×17 rear Wheels
H4 Headlight Upgrade
Oil cooler intake scoop

To drive this car now is to really understand the word OUTRAGEOUS! This is not a car suitable for a novice driver or someone new to air-cooled Porsche’s. Having driven hundreds of air-cooled Porsche’s I can honestly say this is one of the most powerful ones I have ever driven. It makes ungodly power yet manages to be more civilized than a stock 930. The addition of more displacement, high compression, a more modern turbocharger and a 5-speed transmission literally transform this car. It is not for the faint of heart but if you want one of the coolest 930’s to roam the streets here is your car.

You will note that the build centered on the mechanicals and interior of the car. These items are 100% done and sorted. The exterior of the car has not been touched and depending on how someone might want to use the car could stand being taken to the next level. The glass, trim and rubber are all gorgeous but the paint is definitely showing its age. From 10 feet or in pictures it looks great, however it is suffering from issues such as clear coat hazing, cracking and is in need of a respray if you want it to match to caliber of the rest of the car. To just drive and enjoy it.

The car will come complete with all the books and manuals, the Certificate of Authenticity, complete documentation of all the upgrades/service done, original tool kit, air-pump and 3 original Porsche keys. What an amazing car!

It’s rare that I ever say this about any car, but I don’t think there is one thing I would change on this 930. The paint to sample color, history, modifications…for me, this car is perfect. Regardless of vintage, any 911 Turbo will be a pricey proposition. The 930 models are averaging in the $40,000 to $60,000 range, depending on originality and mileage. The seller informs us that this car is going for half of what the 1979 930 we featured last week is advertised. With this kind of presentation, provenance and a slew of tasteful mods, I’d say we are right on the mark in terms of value.

My cousin touched base with me yesterday and wanted my advice on mid-sized SUVs with a 3rd row seat. While I’m a car enthusiast, I’ll admit, SUVs are never on the radar for me. I’m a sports car person. I’m not really sure what that Overland trim package on your Jeep nets you over the regular version for the proletariat. Nor do I really care. Interestingly enough, we both agreed that the Volvo XC90 is probably the best of the lot, but for me, it’s akin to choosing which communicable disease I’d prefer.

Ever the helpful relative, I offered up the “what would Paul drive” scenario. And guess what? It’s this car. The Mercedes-Benz W124 E class estate with the third row seat option. OK, so some people might be a bit nervous strapping their kids into a rear-facing seat, but there is no mid-sized SUV these days which can match this car’s durability and sheer class. More than likely, it’s a lot more efficient than most SUVs these days and you could even opt for 4matic all-wheel drive in this model from 1990 to 1993. This example for sale in Southern California is a final year 1995 model with 81,000 miles, which represents a barely broken in car when it comes to the W124.

Beautiful body and paint, always garaged. This vehicle runs and drives very strong and very smooth. All factory books, factory alloy wheels, roof rack, factory mats. This was grandma and grandpas car and they dont drive anymore. Zero rust one-owner Malibu California car, real buyers know how nice these wagons are. 3rd seat package, loaded.

At almost $11,000, I think this Benz is a bit overvalued. If it has a complete service history available and presents as well as the pictures, $6,000 to $8,000 tops would be more like it. Anything over $10,000 these days should be reserved for near mint examples with under 50,000 miles. Still, there’s not many of these with under 100,000 miles left, as the estate variants are often the ones employed to the greatest degree.

Of the E30 range, the models that seem to get the most attention are the original M3 and 325is. I’ve never driven an E30 M3, but I owned an E30 325is and must admit that car left a lasting impression. To this day, I keep going back and forth, wondering whether to sell the Cooper S for a clean, original E30. This time would be different, though. I’ve been on the hunt for mint condition examples of the 318is coupe. This is a model frequently overlooked but in need of respect. While it foregoes the smooth 2.5 liter six cylinder mill, the 1.8 liter twin cam four cylinder engine is more economical and still pumps out 142 horsepower, which is 26 less than the six cylinder unit. Today this might seem short on power, but with a curb weight of just over 2,600 lbs., you don’t have that much to haul around. While not a fixed roof, this convertible for sale in California is making the right noises. If only it was closer and I had a buyer lined up for the Cooper S…

Personally, I’d rather have a 318is coupe of the same vintage, but this convertible would be fun. The best 318iC might bring $8,000 to $10,000 and I’d suspect the buyer is looking for something close to that range. I’ve always been a fan of the white on blue canvas top combination, as it gives off a decidedly nautical feel. The 5-speed gearbox is also a must to involve the driver and make the most of the twin cam’s powerband. It won’t be a barn stormer, but that’s not what a car like this is about. A car like this is about cheap, simple thrills from an era where you didn’t program the navigation system before setting off. You just went. Like Marlon Brandon said in The Wild One, “going somewhere is for squares. We just go.”

There has been a long partnership between the Buick and Opel subsidiaries of GM over the years. Currently, the Opel Insignia is sold here in the US as the Buick Regal and there are plans to bring the Opel Astra over as a Buick, now that the Saturn division is defunct. But it was a little over forty years ago that Opels began to show up at Buick dealers, without being rebadged. This Kadett B, or second generation Kadett, is one of the cars that launched the small car assault on US dealers. This particular Opel also saw production reach 2.6 million, making it one of the most popular Opels of all time. This particular car for sale on Staten Island is more than likely one of the few Kadetts left on these shores, regardless of condition.

Now when was the last time we have seen one of these cars? WOW, talk about memories! This is a really neat 1968 Opel Kadett L. These cool little cars were made in Germany, and sold here in the States by the Buick Dealers across the country. This Opel is in AMAZING SHAPE for the year, and was GARAGED KEPT since day one! It was sold here by a Buick Dealership right here in Staten Island, New York by Robins Reef Buick, which is long gone today. The name tag is still on the rear deck lid to this day as seen in the photo! This Opel shows only 43,000 miles on it, and the way this car is so well preserved, I believe that this is the true mileage!

Now remember, these cars were NOTORIOUS to rust, and they really did start to rust so bad even when they were only two years old. NOT THIS ONE! This is TRULY a WELL PRESERVED, and UNMOLESTED 1968 Opel. It still looks like its wearing its ORIGINAL PAINT which really is a pretty color. The interior is incredible. I just can’t believe how this car really held up so well! Interested buyers are more than welcome to come and look at it and take it for a ride! It does have some small rust on one of the floorboards, and some by the bottom of the passenger rocker, but nothing bad at all. And still keep in mind, these cars use to rust so bad since day one. It runs and drives GREAT, and is really a crowd stopper. It has the original four cylinder engine, mated to the original four speed manual transmission. It comes with an optional factory clock, rear side vent windows, seat belts, and it is a radio delete car. Now just think, HOW MANY of THESE CARS ARE LEFT IN THE WORLD TODAY???? I see here on e- bay today that there are only three listed here, and not even one of them is a KADETT. Don’t MISS OUT on this one, for who knows when the next time you will ever see another one?

I’m not sure if one could consider this car “well preserved” as rust is rampant. However, the car is 44 years old and the fact that it is still hanging on should be commended, especially in the rough environment around New York City.
