Singing Superstar Rihanna collaborated with MAC Cosmetics to come up with a Fall 2013 collection. What I like about the collection is the packaging, which I think is classic and yet modern at the same time.

When I arrived at the MAC shop in Rustan's Makati most of the lipsticks were sold out. I was lucky to even grab Talk that Talk and Riri Woo. Aside from the lipsticks, I also got myself the Cream Color Base in Diamonds, which I like very much.

Face Form! Sleek Contouring and Blush Palette Preview!

I bought 3 palettes of Sleek Makeup's Face Form Contouring and Blush Palette. I have yet to try these on the models to know if these are good. I have high hopes on these palettes. I think these are good if I based it on the swatches I made at the counter. Let's see after I applied it on the models.

Photo below shows the three palettes I bought. The palette cost Php 350.00 for the small one and Php 900.00 for the big ones.

I'll update this post once I already tried and used them.

I can finally post the editorial shoot I had with Diaryo Filipino in their Life & Style section on their May 2013 issue. The editorial was shoot in UP Diliman featuring supermodel and current "It Guy" Sam Ajdani of PMAP (Professional Models Association of the Philippines) who is a very nice guy and I had so much fun working with him.

Styling Jhay Layson features different kind of suits that will make regular guys look a lot better. Stylist apprentice Aldrin Ramos helped Jhay in styling Sam for the shoot. While make-up artist Nanan Villalba make sure Sam looks his best.

Having problems with eye bags? Fine line and crows feet?

I had the same problem since I have eye bags too. I have fine lines and crows feet as well.

What I do to keep them at bay and prevent from having them again is I use Pond's age miracle Dual Action Eye Cream. I only use this before going to sleep (I use different product during day time).

Pond's age miracle Dual Action Eye Cream has two different cream in two different formula inside. 1st cream (with pink color) I put on lid and 2nd cream (which is white) I put on under eye area.

I've been using this since 2011 and it helps reduce eye bags discoloration, reduce puffiness, and reduce/prevent fine lines and crows feet.

I am hesitant to use it at first because the more popular product didn't help me at all, but my make-up instructor and friend told me to try it since it works really well on her. And I'm glad she was able to convince me because it works well on me too.

Brush no 153 is a small blending brush that will blend your crease detail and cut-crease really well. Because the tip is small and pointy it will not over-blend and erase the detail that you just created. The crease will look natural and well blended in seconds.

I had this brush for 2 years now and it looks and feels like new.

Since I've been working with more than one face in one session, I decided to buy a new one.

But I was disappointed because the newer ones aren't like the one I purchased before. The tip is rounded unlike the one I bought first which is pointed. It still does the work but there's a risk of over-blending because the tip is not tapered to a point.

I had the privilege of working with very beautiful Filipina-Spanish Model Katrina earlier today as her Hair and Make-up Artist. I created three looks for her photo shoot today. Katrina is very pretty already so it's really easy to made her up. I really had fun creating different looks on her.

Our photographer for today's shoot was Celwyn - who is also a TV/TVC director.

As you can see even without make-up she's so pretty. I just color corrected her complexion and enhance her beautiful features.

On the second look, I changed her lip color with bubble gum - neon pink and lined her lower water line with khol pencil and set with powder to prevent the khol from transferring outside the water line.

On her final look, I removed the pink lip color and massage her lips with lip balm before putting the red lip color. And I loaded lots of mascara on her natural lashes as this look requires no false eyelashes. I also darkened the outer corners of her eyes.

Finally I was able to post here the beauty Feature I did on the Life & Style Section of Diaryo Filipino. The theme for the feature are the colors of Spring 2013 for eye makeup.

Despite Pia Gladys Perey’s usual busy schedule she managed to find time to discuss with me, her latest collection from Style Fashion Week in Los Angeles.

Pia Gladys Perey (PGP) is well known for her mastery in drapes. Her collection is often very feminine and very elegant. Celebrities like Grabielle Union and Angelina Jolie already wore some of her designs.

From PGP Press Release: “The collection opened with separates of armored gold and high shine black that felt like leather, this added an edge to the collection that kept it fresh and very bankable at retail. The collection moved into hues such as teal, cadet blue, pine green, and pistachio to the houses default set of neutrals in classic PGP styling.”

When you were invited again to showcase a collection on Style Fashion Week in LA, what was your initial reaction?

PGP: This is actually my third time to get invited to LA fashion week and this year, I felt that it is time to participate since I have been blessed with a lovely team.

How did the organizers (of Style Fashion Week) know about you and your designs?

PGP: I think through my presence online and in the Australian market J.

When you finally decided to join, what were the first few things that you have to consider?

PGP: Team, budget and of course the long term effect of the show to my line in terms of sales and PR.

What was your inspiration behind your collection?

PGP: Luxury and Romance.

What are the challenges, if any, that you had to face in doing and presenting your collection?

PGP: This collection’s challenge was only just really designing the collection. I was so pressed for time and I didn’t feel the inspiration until a few weeks before the launch!

How did you handle it?

PGP: Like what I always do, I hit the beach and refresh my mind

Congratulations on the standing ovation - the crowd really loved your collection. Now that the world knows the potential and greatness of the Pia Gladys Perey label, what direction are you going to take it in the future?

PGP: We are opening a store in LA (Melrose Ave) in June, along with this, we are doing very aggressive moves for sales and PR in the US market.

I got really excited upon learning that Veejay Floresca, a young and very successful Filipino designer, was invited to have a show in Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013 (as shown on photos below). I’ve seen his creations long before he landed third place in the hit fashion reality TV show Project Runway Philippines (Season 1). Since then Veejay’s career as a designer has taken off very well. And now, he has become one of the most sought after young designers in the Philippines.

After seeing his collection on a live stream video, which I really like a lot, I knew I had to feature him and his collection here in Diaryo Filipino to let more people about him.

First of all I’d like to congratulate you on the success of your show at the Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013. What did you feel when you got the invite to present a collection at Vancouver Fashion Week Fall/Winter 2013?

VF: I was very nervous! haha.. ‘coz it’s my first international fashion show, and my first time to do a Fall collection. I’ve done several collections before but it’s in the Philippines, so definitely the biggest challenge for me was to create a collection for a more global market.

What was your inspiration behind the collection? And what is the collection called?

VF: I took inspiration from the old photographs of my mom. I still remember those days when I would always browse through her old albums looking at the clothes, the fashion during her time. Fashion is a cycle, so I thought of getting that as my main inspiration. There’s no name for this collection.

It’s about layering and outerwear that’s perfect for women who love fashion and style.

What are the challenges that you had to face in creating this collection?

VF: The biggest challenge for me was to come up with a collection ONLINE.

I am here in San Francisco now taking up my Masters in Fashion Design at Academy of Art University. Doing this collection online needs a lot of time and effort, but [it’s] worth-it. I have a very skilled and efficient team in Manila. We maximized the advantage of advanced technology to keep in touch and in doing the collection.

I know you’re studying in San Francisco now but can you tell me more about it?

VF: My course is Masters in Fine Arts Major in Fashion Design.

I am learning so much. I thought what I learned in my undergraduate in College of Saint Benilde was enough, but I was wrong. Studying here made me a better designer. I learned more techniques and advanced lessons about pattern making, clothing construction and I was challenged to cope up with their high standards.

I also learned to develop my own style and to be more versatile as a designer without losing my own personal style as a designer. In the Philippines, many designers love dresses or gowns. Haha... I like them, too because that’s the market. But when I came here, I became more mature. As much as possible, I keep myself from what I would usually do in Manila. So now I am focusing in designing separates such as coats, trousers, jackets, tops which is more challenging!

I know that you are designing for people from different parts of the world. Tell me about that.

VF: Yes, I am indeed lucky to have a market of clients abroad. I appreciate the trust they give me.

Who would have thought that we could use a smartphone to communicate with clients abroad. How do maximize the use of it in your business? To close a deal?

VF: We are now moving towards a more diverse world and there is a need to elevate our business modules to reach out to a bigger market.

Majority of my clients now are people from all over the world. They don’t meet me personally, but we chat, Skype, email, and those are just some of the useful ways we do to work together.

What are your future goals?

VF: I want to finish my school and hopefully, join more international fashion shows, establish another branch here in SFO or NYC, continue my scholarship programs for aspiring fashion designers, and get married and build my own family at the age of 35.

What advise can you give budding designers out there?

Adventure Time! Winter in Hong Kong!

I instantly like Hong Kong from the first time I went there (with my mom, my aunt and my youngest brother last 2010). And going back to Hong Kong this year on a colder weather makes it more exciting for me.

Last February, I went back to Hong Kong with my friends. It was their first time to go there so I got really excited to be their tour guide. We decided to stay in Tsim Sha Tsui since my friends love shopping a lot. I thought it would be a great place to start shopping since a lot of shops flooded the area.

Outfit of the Day at Tsim Sha Tsui: checkered button down shirt from Levi's, gray jacket from Dockers, tapered pants from Wrangler, sandals from Sanuk, faux fur hat from 21Men, herringbone scarf from Forever21, sunglasses from Vanz, camera sling bag from Crumpler, black arm band from H&M, red arm band from tiange.

When we arrived at the Hong Kong international airport I got more excited because I see fogs everywhere meaning the weather will be a lot colder there; we can roam around the city on foot without having to worry about heat, humidity and sweating (profusely).

We had our lunch at the airport first before we bought our 3 day unlimited train ride tickets. I really recommend this one because you will be having an access to Airport Express going to and from Hong Kong downtown plus unlimited rides to all trains (MTR) within Hong Kong for 3 days. And if you are staying a bit longer (in our case we stayed for four (4) days) you can buy additional credit from any train station. Don't worry if you'll end up buying more credits because you can always refund the extra credit once you go back to the airport.

We got ourselves a map to guide us. The map is free so feel free to grab one if you don't have one with you. From the Airport going to Tsim Sha Tsui was easy. In our case we first took the Airport Express Line (the green line) and stopped at Tsing Yi station. Then took the Tung Chung Line (the orange line) stopping at Lai King station before taking the Tsuen Wan Line (the red line) which finally lead us to Tsim Sha Tsui.

I was not able to take photos of my OFTD on our first day because we got too busy exploring Hong Kong. But here's what I wore on our second day:

Outside Tsim Sha Tsui Train Station. I'm all wrapped up because it was so cold that day. I decided to wear Sanuk sandals because we're going to walk most of the time and I want something comfortable to wear.

The scarf helps a lot to combat the cold weather. Herringbone scarf from Forever21, sunglasses from Vanz, black leather arm band from H&M also available in brown, red leather arm band from tiange also available in different colors.

Get The Look! Black And Red Butterfly Eye Makeup!

I was asked to help Yeoh Models for their Spring Summer 2012 Package shoot. The inspiration behind the look for the girls for the shoot is the dark shade surrounding the eyes of a raccoon. During the shooting day, we (the make-up artists) were told to modify the color of the eyeshadows as we like as long as we still include black eyeshadow and retain the shape of the raccoon eyes.

For the model's eyeshadows, I chose the red eyeshadow to mix with black to mimic the color of the wings of a black-and-red butterfly. I really like the outcome and I will be sharing you today how to recreate the look.

For this look I use NYX Makeup Make-up Artist kit (photo shown above).

I marked the eyeshadows in the palette for easy eyeshadow reference.

Black and Red Butterfly Inspired Eye Makeup:

Follow the simple steps to below to achieve the look.

Note: Placed the product/s on the space enclosed in white line on the photo above each steps.

Step 01:
Prime and put eye makeup base on the entire eye area starting from upper lash line up to the brow bone. I use NYX Eyeshadow base in skin tone.

Step 02:
Using a blending brush like Mac 224 place black eyeshadow in D3 on the outer eye area and swipe it on the crease towards the inner eye area near the nose. Make sure to use gentle strokes so that the less eyeshadows will be placed on the inner eye area of the crease.

Step 03:
Using a dome eyeshadow brush like Mac 239 place red eyeshadow in F6 on the lid area. Carefully blending it on the edge of the black eyeshadow placed from the previous step. Add more layer of the red eyeshadow depending on the intensity of the color that you want to achieve.

Step 04:
Using a eyeliner brush like Mac 210 place a black gel or cream liner on the upper lash line. Then smudge the gel/cream using Marionnaud No. 8 pencil brush.

Step 05:
Using Marionnaud No. 8 pencil brush place red eyeshadow in F6 on the lower lash line. Starting from the outer eye corner towards the inner eye corner. Make sure that you blend the eye shadow well.

Step 06:
Using a small angle brush like Mac 208 place a black gel eye liner on the lower waterline. Then slightly blend it on the lower lash line.

Step 07:
Using Marionnaud No. 8 pencil brush place black eyeshadow in D3 on the lower lash line to blend the black gel eye liner.

Step 08:
Using a blending brush like Mac 217 combine eye shadows in D1 and D6 the place it on the brow bone towards the inner eye corner in a wild shield wiper motion. Make sure to blend the edges well.

Then Curl your eyelashes with Shu Uemura Eyelash Curler. Apply 2 coats of Maybelline The Magnum Volum' Express Waterproof Mascara (let the mascara dry for 3 to 5 seconds before applying the second coat) from roots to tips. Add false eyelashes to your liking.

For Patricia's Brows:

For her eyebrows I use wet n' wild ultimate brow kit powder in Ash Brown. I use the lighter one using MAC 208 brush. I first fill in the highest point of the arch towards the tip of the eyebrow before filling in the part near the nose.

Tip: Try to draw the shape first and check if you like it before putting more eyebrow powder. It's always easier to pack colors than removing the excess. I hope this helps.

For the Face:

I use 2 color of True Match foundation to achieve her skin color. Then I mix nyx, kryolan and covergirl concealer on under eye area, sides of the nose/mount and on spots that need concealing. Then I use kryolan transparent loose powder to set the makeup using E.L.F. powder brush.

For the Cheeks:

I use Maybelline blush in peach and cinnamon using Nars Yachiyo brush. Note: You should put lip balm like Carmex after skin prep.

For the Lips:

Step 01: Line the entire lip area (upper and lower lips) with Etude House Lip Liner in Natural. Purse lips together to distribute lip liner evenly.

Step 02: Apply Kryolan Lipstck in #LF401 (nudel-coral shade). Purse lips together. Repeat this step twice or thrice depending on how long you want your lipstick will stay.

Step 03: Then add a coat of Kryolan Lipstick in #LC132 for that hint of orange. Purse lips together.

Step 04: Set lipstick by pressing tissue in between your upper and lower lips.

Step 05: Apply Etude House clear Lip Gloss in the Middle of your lower lip.

Before I was doing make-up, as a photographer I always look for something that inspires me. One way to be inspired is I look at the photos created by famous photographers from different books and magazines. Since I can’t afford to buy new magazines, Booksale has been my go to – my haven, when I need to be inspired. Aside from the fact that old books and magazines (back issues) are already opened, there are some that are really cheap and I can finally afford them.

I used to live near Cubao, Quezon City and whenever I go home from work I always visit Booksale located in Shopwise Cubao. I am always excited whenever I get the chance to visit the shop and always hoping that there’ll be new books and magazines for me to browse and like enough to buy. And that has been almost my routine for the entire 5 years of my stay in the area.

I accumulated so many magazines that it almost reached the ceiling of my room and I have 4 columns of pile of these magazines. But I left most of the magazine when I left the place. That time I really had to moved out and I’ve only got limited time to transfer my stuff to where I live now because I can’t really afford transferring my entire stuff that time.

One of my favorite book that I got there was the book “FACE FORWARD” by Kevyn Aucoin. It was already old and has a coffee stain on the cover and some of the pages where already detached from the bone but it’s a good book (and really cheap) so I bought it. The reason I bought it is that I remembered browsing the book inside the shop and realized that Kevyn did the make-up of most of the photos that inspire me from the books and magazines that I saw. It made me realized that teamwork from different creative minds could create images that are really striking and timeless.

“If you wait your whole life for somebody else to tell you it’s ok to be you – you might wait forever.”

The book is about transforming a person into another person/character. And I was amazed how creative and good he really was. I also learned that he does photography and he photographed all the images shown inside the book.

Little did I know that Kevyn inspired me in such a way that I wanted to create images that inspire people just like how these images inspired me. The fact that I also paint gives me the idea that maybe I can also paint faces using make-up.

TOTT! Charm PRO Big Blending Brush #11!

Another brush that caught my eye is Charm Pro Big Blending Brush #11. I think I already have 12 blending brushes but additional 2 won't hurt, right? Yes I bought two of these. What makes this brush very appealing to me is the hair color - which is white (just like my MAC 217 brushes). Most of my blending brushes are either black or brown (the two different ones are the stippling eye blending brush and the blending+dome eye brush that comes with Urban Decay's Naked 2 palette).

While most of my blending brushes are really soft Charm Pro Big Blending Brush #11 is not that soft, which makes this brush unique among my blending brushes. And I like it that way.

It is not stiff but is firm enough not to over-blend eye shadow color, which really helps when I needed a blending brush to do that for me. This brush helps me achieve a certain gradient that don’t fade the color, which happens when you over-blend.

My Charm Pro Big Blending Brush #11 brushes.

Among my blending brushes Charm Pro Big Blending Brush #11 is the densest. It picks up color really well and helps me blend the outer V and crease area without over-blending. And since the brush is dense, I really like using it to blend concealer on the under eye area and corners of the nose.

I also like to use this brush on creamy products like the Maybelline 24 Hour Color Tattoo.

Since this is not the softest blending brush you need to blend the eye shadow more if you want to use it that way (which I don't on this brush) since I’m using another blending brush for that purpose. Sometimes it is a bit scratchy but not to the point that it hurts the area where you use it so it is not a big deal. There are few hairs that shed but nothing sheds after two washes.

I really like the white hair.

This retails for Php 399.00 but I got it with 10% discount at The Ramp Glorietta.

Verdict: Love. Like. Nice. Skip. Drain.

I am satisfied with the 2 Charm Pro Big Blending Brush #11 brushes that I have. It picks up color really well and does not over-blend and losing all the definition of the eye shadow color. I can also use it on concealers to blend the edges and creamy eye shadows from placing wash of color as base to building the color intensity to my liking.

I've got the chance to do the makeup and photography for Slimmetry's Ad Campaign. Slimmetry is a clothing brand specializing in Body Forming Corsets and Swimwear. And the makeup for the campaign is inspired by pin-up girls of 1950's. This decade celebrates the voluptuous curves of women and that's what Slimmetry is trying to offer women now - achieving the curves you deserve.

Our model for the campaign is Tanja Winheim - a Spanish/Filipina beauty. The make-up is so sexy and yet so easy to achieve. And it fits for all women. To get the look, just follow the simple steps below:

You may use Dollface 88 Earth Color Palette to create this look.

Tanja's 1950's Eye Make-up:

Note: Placed the product/s on the space enclosed in white line.

Step 01: Prime and put eye makeup base on the entire eye area starting from upper lash line up to the brow bone. I use NYX Eyeshadow base in skin tone.

Step 02: Then using medium shading brown eyeshadow with red undertone, swipe in a windshield wiper motion starting from the outer corner to the inner corner of the eye area to define the crease using a blending brush. I use a Artnet #154 brush to deposit and blend the eyeshadow.

Step 03: Then place a matte skin tone eye shadow on the entire lid and blend it well on the edge of the crease using a dome eye shadow brush. I use Artnet #112 brush to pick-up and deposit color.

Step 04: Then place a matte black eyeshadow on the outer V and outer crease of the eye using a pencil/pointed brush. Make sure to blend the eyeshadow well with the crease color. I use Marionnaud #8 brush to pick-up and define the color.

Step 05: Then place a shimmer vanilla eyeshadow on the inner corner of the eye, center of the lid and the brow bone area to create highlight using a small dome eyeshadow brush. I use the brush that comes with the 10-piece brush set from Suesh.

Step 06: Then place the same eyeshadow color that define the crease on the lower lash line using the a pencil/pointed brush. I use Marionnaud #8 brush to deposit and blend color on the lower lash line.

Step 07: Then I place a matte black eyeshadow on the other part of the lower lash line to mimic a shadow that coming from the lashes when hit a light source from above. I use the same from from previous step.

Step 08: Place an eyeliner gel on the upper lash line and wing it out on the outer corner eye to create a sexy kitten wing that is famous during the 1950's. I use E.L.F. cream eyeliner in black to create this look. I use Fanny Serrano #14 slant eyebrow/eyeliner brush to get the wing and the line.

That finishes the eye makeup. Easy right? Now you can recreate this eye makeu-up on yourself.

For the lips:

I use Etude lip liner to define the shape of the lips then I use Top Tomato by Revlon to get that luscious red color using Artnet lip brush.

For the Face:

I use 2 color of True Match foundation to achieve her skin color. Then I mix nyx, kryolan and covergirl concealer on under eye area, sides of the nose/mount and on spots that need concealing. Then I use kryolan transparent loose powder to set the makeup using E.L.F. powder brush.

For Cheeks:

I use Maybelline blush in peach and cinnamon using Nars Yachiyo brush.

For Eyebrows.

I use wet n' wild eyebrow kit to define her brows using Marionnaud #9 brush.

I really like brushes in fact I have more than a hundred already. And when I happen to see one on the mall I just can’t help myself but try it.

One that caught my attention was the Charm PRO Eye Shader Brush #7. Charm PRO Eye Shader Brush #7 reminds me of the MAC 239 brush – the tapered-rounded shape and white colored hair look really similar to each other. So I really got excited and bought 2 instantly.

The Charm PRO Eye Shader Brush is a very dense brush that picks up substantial amount of eyeshadow and packs on vivid colors on the eyelids.

I have this brush for more than a month already and I already used, cleaned and washed it a couple of times so I think I can do a review of it now.

I really like dense brushes that pickup colors, deposit the colors well and that are soft. Charm PRO Eye Shader Brush #7 picks up color well and deposits it well on the eyelids, however, the brush is so scratchy it hurts the eye area where you put colors specially when you use it for shading to smoke-out the color.

The brush is not soft but not stiff. When you use the top-edge side of the brush to blend the outer v and crease area and deposit color on the lower lash line it scratches and pokes the area.

The one on the left sheds like crazy which does not happen with the one on the right.

I mentioned earlier that I’ve got two and one of the brushes shed like crazy which does not happen with the other brush. And it’s kind of hard to clean it.

The good thing about this brush is that it picks up color, deposit color well and minimize eye shadow fall-out so I'll only use this brush for that purpose only (I don't recommend this brush for blending and shading the lid and crease areas and placing color on the lower lash line). But I was disappointed with it because it hurts the eye unlike Charm PRO Big Blending Brush #11 (that I really like).

This retails for Php 350.00 but I got it with 10% discount at The Ramp Glorietta.

Verdict: Love. Like. Nice. Skip. Drain.

Although it delivers its promise of picking up and packing color (almost like MAC 239 and actually better than other brushes for that purpose) I just can’t stand that it scratches and pokes the area where you use it.

TOTT! ELF Powder Brush (Flat Top)!

The best way to make foundation and makeup last is setting it with powder. And how you apply the powder is very important. Equally as important is the tool you use to apply the powder.

Other than the powder puff, which is one of the best btw, the E.L.F. Powder Brush (Flat Top) is my one to go to brush in setting foundations with powder. In fact it’s the only thing I use nowadays with my clients. The brush is so much easier to clean than the powder puff.

What I really like about this brush is the fact that it has a flat top. Its flat top is perfect in setting in the foundation. If you put the powder onto the skin using the flat top it will seal the foundation onto your skin completely (almost).

Unlike a traditional powder brush, which takes away the foundation when you swipe it onto the skin with powder, elf powder brush will not. As you tap the flat top of the brush on your skin with powder it will press the foundation making it stick with the skin even more.

Then I tap powder using the flat top starting from the forehead going to the hairline then down to the cheek area then the outer part of the face. I tap and press as I go making sure that every part of the face that I applied with foundation was never skipped. This way the, I am confident that the foundation will not budge, will stay put and will last longer.

For demo purposes I'm using a darker foundation than my skin color to make the result more visible.

Step 01: Place enough powder on the cover of the powder container.
Step 02: Dip brush.
Step 03: Tap off the excess.
Step 04: Tap and press the flat surface of the brush onto the skin.

Easy, right? Check below photos to compare the area without and with powder.

The area we set with powder using E.L.F. powder brush looks natural and flawless.

Other that setting the foundation with powder. I also use this brush to contour the face. The side of the brush is perfect for creating that nose line and that line under the cheek to make your face look slimmer. Then I used the flat part to blend where I contour to eliminate harsh line.

I have two. One for setting the powder (taped with red-green tapes) and the other one is for contouring (taped with red-green-yellow tapes).

The brush is so easy to clean, since it is synthetic made of Taklon it also dries a lot quicker than my other synthetic brushes.

I've heard that other people also use this brush for putting foundations (liquid, cream, powder, etc.) but I haven't tried it yet since I already found other brushes perfect for that job. Some even use this brush in applying blush on the apples of the cheek. That's how versatile this brush is. And I say these reasons make this brush a keeper.

Plus the Php 249.00 price tag doesn't really hurt the pocket.

There's nothing bad that I can think of to say against this brush, really.

This brush is really nice to have and has become a 'must have' in my kit.

Quick Tip! Save Your Favorite Mascara Wands!

Do you hate it when you have to throw away your empty mascara tube along with it your favorite mascara wand? Or having your favorite mascara but you doesn’t really like the wand that comes with it? I certainly do.

Now, I got a little quick suggestion for you. Throw your empty mascara tube but save the mascara wand. Just clean your wand and reuse it! Here’s how I do it:

First, gather all the things you need:

Your empty mascara tube with your favorite wand with it.

Dishwashing soap (preferably with antibacterial formulation) and bowl or container (big enough to soak the wand).

Brush cleaner.

Tissue or towel, old toothbrush and zip locks.

Here’s how I clean my favorite mascara wands:

Put dishwashing soap in an empty container.
Soak your favorite mascara wand overnight. This will remove the mascara from the wand when mixed with dishwashing soap.
Brush gently your mascara wand with old toothbrush to remove mascara off the wand.
Put your wand under running water until all mascara is gone.
Then roll your wand on a towel to dry it.
Then place your wand on top of a tissue and spray it with a brush cleaner.
Then roll it on the tissue and place it on top of another tissue to dry.
Now your favorite mascara is clean and is now ready to use. Just put it on a zip lock for storage and to prevent it from getting dirty.

How to use your favorite mascara wand:

Choose your favorite mascara then take ample amount off the mascara (from the wand that comes with it) and place it on a mixing palette or at the back of your hand.
Get your favorite (clean) mascara wand and swipe it gently on the mascara you placed on the mixing palette or at the back of your hand.
Swipe the mascara onto your lashes.
Now you have a great looking lashes using your favorite mascara and your favorite mascara wand.

Easy, right?

DIY! Mix Your Own Lip Color in 4 Easy Steps!

Sometimes when you are mixing and painting two different colors of lipstick on a client (or yourself) the process can be messy and can be time consuming. Sometimes you end up putting color on other tube then staining and ruining the original color. To save time and prevent you from getting messy during mixing two different colors of lipstick (on actual makeup application) follow the simple steps to create your own mix of lip color below.

Note: If you are a kid make sure you ask your parent (or an adult) to assist you.

Things you need:

1. Your favorite lipsticks in different colors.

2. Spatula for taking small part of lipstick from a tube and mixing lipsticks together.

3. Teaspoon or

Tablespoon (for larger container).

4. Empty lipstick palette or

Empty tiny jars (you can buy from Landmark, Beabi or Muji) to put your lip mix.

5. Flame (from a stove or from a candle).

Here are the 4 easy steps:

Using the spatula, slice a portion of your favorite lipstick and place it on the spoon. Clean your spatula then slice another portion of lipstick with different color and add it to the first lip color. It is up to you to place the ratio of two different colors. Just add some more to achieve the color you want.
Then place it above a flame with medium heat (I place mine over a stove but you may use a candle and it will do the trick) to melt.
Mix the lipstick by stirring then well with spatula when melted to get an even mixture.
Place the mixture on an empty palette or jar and allow the mixture to harden.

Congrats! You got yourself a new shade of lip color! Just use your lip brush to get color from the pan and apply it to yourself. Easy, right?

You may also mix the two lip colors together before melting to create your new lip color a bit faster.

I created a total of 11 lip colors by mixing different lip colors and different rations. Check all the colors and ratios below:

Mix 7, 8 and 9.

Mix 10 and 11.

And here are the new shades of lip colors I created on a palette. I numbered the colors based on the mixtures above. The ones with no numbers are the original shades I used to create the new lip colors.

QUICK TIP: If you are a bit OC you may use hair blow drier to make your lip color look even and a lot better in your palette. Just let the heat from the blower melt the top part slowly to even it out in the palette (see photo below).

Review! Nyx Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone!

NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone - is my little secret on how I make the eyeshadows pop (and last) on my client's eyelids.

What the website says about it:

I actually came across NYX's eyeshadow base by accident. I was looking for orange and green correctors then when I found this gem. I found it on a makeup shop (I forgot the shop's name) in Glorietta (it's on the 2nd level near the area where SM Makati and Glorietta are joined). That time the correctors that I were looking for were not available so I end up trying several other products instead and one of these is NYX Eyeshadow base which I like instantly.

My NYX Eyeshadow Base in Skin Tone.

I put a small amount of the product on the back of my hand to test its consistency. The texture is creamy just like your cream concealer. It has a flesh tone just perfect for most skin types. I gently pat it on the back of my hand to blend. It did blend well on my skin.

Then I took some of the available eyeshadow testers on the store and tried to swatch them without the base and on top of the base. The eyeshadows on top of the base pops! And right then and there I bought a jar for myself. And ever since NYX Eyeshadow base is my go to eyeshadow base for my clients.

What I like about NYX Eyeshadow base:

The texture is creamy just like concealers which is easy to blend on the eyelids;
The color is flesh tone so it will look like skin on most skin types;
It is opaque so it will even out the eye area for eyeshadow applications;
It helps eyeshadows to look its true color;
It helps eyeshadows to have something to grab on to so eyeshadows will stay and not stray;
It helps eyeshadows last all day long without fading and creasing (with proper technique);
The pot has 7g worth of product so it will definitely goes a long way;
It is affordable (under Php 500.00).

What I don't like about NYX Eyeshadow base:

None that I can think of really. Even the oiliest eyelid will benefit from it (you just have to know how to prep your eyelids).

Here's the comparison of NYX Eyeshadow base VS a 5 peso coin.

How I apply it?

I first prep the eye area to remove excess oil to make sure that the base will not crease and fade.

I just use my Jazzy concealer brush from James Cooper Cosmetics to get the needed amount of eyeshadow base from the pot. I use this brush for this purpose only. One dip and swipe is all I need for one eye. Then I use my ring finger to blend it.

That product on the brush is enough for one eye.

Then I swatch it on the back of my hand. See photos below on different lighting condition within my room. The left part is unblended while the right part is where I blended it on skin. Looks like skin, right? Well only better.

I took some of my eyeshadows so that you can see the difference with and without the makeup base. The top part are eyeshadows without the base and the lower part are the eyeshadows with the base underneath. See how the color pops, especially on the rightmost eyeshadow where it is almost not visible without the base.

The black looks true black and became opaque, same with the brown. Check photo below under different lighting condition.

I even tried placing my hand under running water just to check what happens. Well, since I'm using waterproof eyeshadows the eyeshadow stays but the ones with base beneath still looks the same if not became more opaque.

I really like NYX Eyeshadow base because it is creamy and flesh tone, it makes eyeshadow color pops, it extend the staying power of eyeshadow, it prevents crease and it's affordable and one pot will last very long.

And when I ran out of it, I will definitely purchase again.
