How to Raise Cash in an Emergency

It used to be possible to get a crisis loan from the social fund to meet emergency expenses but the scheme now only exists in Northern Ireland.  If you live in England the new scheme is called The Local Crisis and Prevention fund and is administered by your local council.  The fund covers emergency payments for food, gas and electricity or emergency repairs to essential household goods like cookers, beds and fridge freezers.  Payments are usually made within one day.  To apply for the scheme you need to contact your local council.  Click here to find your local council.

If you live in Scotland you may be able to get help from the Scottish Welfare Fund who can offer Crisis Grants.  These payments are mainly for people on benefits who have undergone some sort of emergency, ie a fire or flood, been burgled or faced other exceptional circumstances.  Assistance may be provided in the form of cash, vouchers, or replacement household items. Contact your local council who administer the scheme.

Residents of Wales can apply to the Discretionary assistance fund for Wales for emergency assistance payments.

Who Can Become an Iwriter?

Amazon Mechanical Turk or MTurk as it is commonly called is probably the best known of all microtasking sites.  MTurk pays workers to complete a variety of Human Intelligence Tasks (HITS) which pay varying amounts, some of which require workers to be qualified others do not.  Examples of the HITS which may be available include check the spelling on a number of search terms, choose the correct category for products, finding item numbers for products, analysing advertisements, translation work and completing specified questionnaires.
