August can feel like a race to the finish line of summer. The days are still warm and bright, but thoughts of back-to-school prep, work projects, and autumn goals start creeping in. This is the perfect time to pause and take stock—not of your cupboards this week, but of your time.

Before September brings a fresh set of demands, let’s do a short, focused audit to see where your hours are really going and how you can take back control.

Why a Time Audit Works

A time audit is like decluttering your calendar. Instead of letting tasks, habits, and obligations pile up without question, you take an honest look at what’s truly worth your energy. The aim isn’t to pack more into your day—it’s to make space for what matters most.

When you know where your time is going, you can:

Spot and reduce time-wasters

Create a realistic schedule that reflects your priorities

Make room for rest and personal goals without guilt

Step 1: Track Your Time for a Few Days

For the next three days, jot down what you’re doing and when. Be specific—“scrolling phone” is not the same as “researching a school project.” You can use a notebook, spreadsheet, or a time tracking app.

Step 2: Identify Your Time Drains

When you review your notes, ask:

Where am I losing time without meaning to?

Which activities leave me drained or stressed?

Which tasks could be delegated or done less often?

These are your time drains. They’re the equivalent of clutter on your desk—they take up space without adding value.

Step 3: Highlight What’s Working

It’s not all about cutting—keep what works. Which tasks give you energy, produce good results, or align with your personal goals? These are your keepers.

Step 4: Create Your August Schedule Reset

Now, design a simplified weekly schedule that builds in your must-do tasks, priority projects, and meaningful personal time.

Some quick tips:

Block out essential appointments and deadlines first

Schedule focus blocks for important work or home tasks

Add buffer time for transitions and unexpected delays

Protect at least one small daily block for yourself

Step 5: Set a SMART Goal for Your Time

Once you’ve cleaned up your schedule, give yourself a clear time-related goal to aim for. Using the SMART method—Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, Time-framed—might look like this:

“I will finish my workday by 6 pm at least four days a week for the rest of August, so I have more time to spend with my family.”

Why This Works Now

August is a natural transition month. By doing this reset before September, you’ll enter the new season with a schedule that supports your energy, focus, and priorities—rather than one that pulls you in every direction.

Next Week:
We’ll explore how to create a new daily routine before fall begins—without overhauling your entire life.

As the end of summer draws near, our homes can start to feel a little chaotic. The kids are restless, work routines are shifting, and there’s a growing list of to-dos tugging at your attention. It’s no wonder that mental clarity becomes harder to find.

If you’re feeling scattered, overwhelmed, or simply sick of stepping over the same pile of stuff, this post is your 30-minute reset. We’re starting the month with a focused, fast-paced mission that will give you the boost you need to feel lighter and more in control—before the back-to-school rush and autumn prep begins.

Let’s start by clearing the space around you, so you can clear the space within you.

The Mission: Fill a Hu-u-uge Trash Bag

This isn’t about organising perfectly labelled baskets or colour-coded bins. This is about fast, guilt-free letting go. For this mission, we’re simply removing clutter that no longer serves you—things that are broken, outdated, unloved, or in the way.

You’ll be surprised how quickly a 30-minute declutter session can shift your mood, improve your focus, and even lift your energy.

Your 4-Step Declutter Challenge

Step 1: Get a big trash bag
You want something you can’t ignore. One large garbage bag—or a bunch of smaller ones if needed.

Step 2: Set a 30-minute timer
This isn’t an all-day project. You’re giving yourself half an hour of focused action, and that’s it.

Step 3: Move room to room
Go quickly. Trust your instincts. If something feels like clutter, it is. Toss anything you don’t use, don’t like, or simply don’t need anymore.

Quick ideas:

Living Room: old magazines, dusty ornaments, dead plants

Bathroom: expired products, old makeup, half-used bottles

Bedroom: worn-out slippers, sad pillows, anything on your nightstand that adds stress

Kitchen: gadgets you never use, chipped plates, expired pantry items

Office: papers you’ll never need, dried-out pens, old cables

Kids’ Stuff: broken toys, outgrown gear, neglected craft supplies

Step 4: Take it out—immediately
The moment your timer goes off or your bag is full, remove it from your house. Don’t look back.

Why This Works

This type of fast-action decluttering works because it:

Interrupts inertia: A short burst of effort gets you moving

Creates visible results: You’ll see space cleared instantly

Improves focus: Physical clutter clouds your thinking; removing it makes room for clarity

Builds momentum: You’ll feel successful—without hours of effort

It’s not about perfection. It’s about creating the mental and physical space to reset for the season ahead.

Want to Keep the Momentum Going?

If this felt good (and it will), you’ll love the structure of the 52 Organizing Missions or the 30-Day Organize-athon. They’re designed to give you small, effective organising wins without the overwhelm. One mission at a time, one room at a time, one habit at a time.

You don’t need a total life overhaul. You just need a starting point—and this mission is it.

Next Week:
We’ll dive into your time—how to take a fresh look at how your day is really being spent, and how to reset your schedule so it works for you.

After four weeks of decluttering, spring cleaning, lightening, brightening, and organizing your closet, you may be feeling a welcome shift in your home and energy. But if you are still inspired to keep going, this final post is for you. In this bonus instalment, we’ll explore simple, manageable spring reset projects you can do to refresh your space and bring even more calm, joy, and functionality into your daily life.

These extra projects are optional but highly rewarding and will help you maintain the momentum you have already built throughout March.

Project 1: Tidy Up Hidden Storage Spaces

Closets, cupboards, drawers, and storage areas are often the final hiding spots for clutter. Spring is the perfect time to give them attention.

Focus on:

Linen cupboards

Under-bed storage

Kitchen cabinets and drawers

Garage or utility rooms

Home office storage

The goal is not perfection but improvement. Remove anything that is expired, broken, unnecessary, or simply taking up space. Organize the remaining items in a way that makes them accessible and easy to use.

Project 2: Refresh Your Home Office or Study Area

For those working from home, homeschooling, or managing household admin, an organized workspace is essential for productivity and peace of mind.

Quick wins include:

Declutter papers, old notebooks, and unused office supplies

Create a simple filing system for essential documents

Store everyday supplies within easy reach

Add a touch of spring by placing a small plant, fresh flowers, or an inspiring photo on your desk

If possible, position your desk to take advantage of natural light

A clutter-free, thoughtfully arranged workspace can make everyday tasks more enjoyable and efficient.

Project 3: Organize Children’s Spaces

If you have children, consider taking time this spring to declutter and organize their spaces too. Involve them if they are old enough — it can be a great learning experience.

Key areas to focus on:

Clothing (outgrown items can be donated)

Toys (declutter and rotate for freshness)

School supplies and art materials

Bookshelves

Make sure that frequently used items are easy for your children to access and put away. Organizing children’s spaces can help foster independence and make tidying up a little easier for everyone.

Project 4: Update Seasonal Decor

After decluttering and deep cleaning, updating your decor is a simple and satisfying way to complete your spring home reset.

Consider:

Swapping out dark or heavy decor for lighter, natural textures such as cotton, linen, or woven baskets

Bringing in fresh or faux plants

Updating throw pillows, blankets, or table linens with spring colors or patterns

Changing out heavier artwork for lighter, nature-inspired prints

These small changes will enhance the sense of calm and freshness in your home without requiring a major investment.

Project 5: Create a Simple Home Maintenance Plan

Spring is a good time to take stock of your home’s maintenance needs. Rather than waiting for small issues to become big problems, put together a simple plan to address them proactively.

Start by listing:

Minor repairs needed (leaky taps, squeaky doors, loose handles)

Seasonal tasks (cleaning gutters, servicing HVAC, checking smoke alarms)

Any upgrades you would like to plan for (painting, updating a room, refreshing outdoor areas)

Spread tasks across the next few months and commit to tackling them bit by bit.

Project 6: Make Space for Joy and Self-Care

Organizing is not just about tidying; it is about creating space for what matters.

Ask yourself:

Is there a corner you could turn into a reading nook?

Could you set up a tea or coffee station?

Can you organize a small hobby space or crafting area?

These small pockets of joy can make your home feel more nurturing and personally satisfying.

Final Thoughts

You don’t need to overhaul your entire home to experience the benefits of a spring reset. Simple, focused projects like tidying hidden storage, updating decor, or organizing your workspace can have a lasting positive effect on how your home feels and functions.

By now, you have made great progress preparing your home for the new season. Whether you stop here or continue with these bonus projects, you will be stepping into spring with more space, more ease, and more joy.

In the coming weeks, you may want to revisit some of these projects or continue to build on them. Remember, organization is not about perfection — it is about creating a home that serves and supports you.

If you would like more structured help, you can also explore the additional resources and programs available on my GetOrganizedGal site for deeper dives into home and life organization.

As spring arrives, one of the most impactful and satisfying organizing projects you can do is transition your wardrobe. Swapping out your winter clothes for spring and summer items is not just about storage; it is about simplifying your daily routine, reducing clutter, and making it easier to get dressed with less stress.

This guide will walk you through the seasonal closet swap process step by step, helping you declutter, store, and organize with purpose. By the end, you will have a streamlined, fresh wardrobe ready to meet the new season.

Step 1: Prepare Your Space

Before you begin, create a comfortable space for sorting your clothes. You will want to have:

Empty hangers

Storage bins or bags for off-season clothes

Donation bags or boxes

A notepad to jot down missing items or wish-list pieces

Set aside a good block of time so you can fully focus without feeling rushed.

Step 2: Take Everything Out

Yes, everything. Remove all clothing, shoes, and accessories from your wardrobe, drawers, and shelves.

Laying everything out gives you a clear view of what you own and makes it easier to make intentional decisions about what stays, goes, or gets stored for next winter.

Step 3: Sort into Categories

Sort all items into these simple categories:

Keep for Spring and Summer

Store for Next Winter

Donate or Sell

Discard (worn out, stained, or damaged beyond repair)

Be honest with yourself. If you did not wear something all winter, ask why. If it does not fit, you do not like it, or it no longer suits your lifestyle, consider letting it go.

Step 4: Store Winter Clothes Properly

For the items you are storing until next winter:

Wash or dry-clean everything before storing to prevent odors and stains from setting.

Fold bulky items like sweaters to avoid stretching.

Use breathable garment bags for delicate or formal wear.

Store clothes in labeled plastic bins, storage bags, or under-bed containers.

Consider using cedar blocks or lavender sachets to deter moths.

Tip: Avoid storing clothes in cardboard boxes, as they can attract moisture and pests.

Step 5: Curate Your Spring Wardrobe

Now focus on what remains: your spring and summer clothes.

Ask yourself:

Do I love it?

Does it fit me comfortably?

Will I wear it this season?

Does it suit my current lifestyle?

By curating your wardrobe, you will avoid overcrowding your space with items you will never reach for.

Step 6: Organize for Ease and Inspiration

Now that you have edited your wardrobe, arrange it in a way that makes daily dressing a breeze.

Group clothes by type (tops, pants, dresses, etc.).

Within each category, sort by color if you like the visual appeal and ease it offers.

Use matching hangers for a more cohesive and tidy look.

Store accessories like scarves, belts, and jewelry in designated spots for easy access.

Place spring shoes where they are visible and easy to grab.

Step 7: Identify Gaps or Needs

As you go through this process, you may notice you are missing some essential items, like a light jacket, basic t-shirts, or versatile sandals.

Make a short shopping list of pieces that will fill in the gaps. Having a targeted list will help you avoid impulsive purchases and ensure your wardrobe works for you.

Step 8: Maintain Your Seasonal System

To keep your wardrobe organized all season:

Adopt a one-in, one-out policy for clothing purchases.

Regularly evaluate what you are actually wearing.

As we’ve been discussing in recent posts, spring is the perfect time to refresh your home and create a space that feels lighter, brighter, and more energizing. After a long winter of heavy blankets, darker colors, and layers of cozy clutter, you may find that your home feels a little weighed down. The good news is, you do not need a complete makeover to make a noticeable difference.

In this post, you will learn simple but effective ways to organize and style your home to welcome the lightness of spring. These strategies focus on decluttering, rearranging, and adding fresh touches to create a more open and joyful environment.

Step 1: Embrace Natural Light

One of the easiest ways to make your home feel lighter and brighter is to maximize the amount of natural light entering your space.

Clean your windows thoroughly, both inside and out, to remove dust and grime that may have built up over winter.

Pull back heavy curtains and replace them with lighter fabrics or sheer panels that let sunlight in while still providing privacy.

Rearrange furniture if necessary to prevent it from blocking light sources. Avoid placing large or dark pieces in front of windows.

If certain rooms do not get much natural light, consider adding mirrors to reflect what light is available and make the space feel more open.

Step 2: Declutter Visual Clutter

Spring organizing is not just about cleaning; it is about creating visual space. Visual clutter is anything that makes a room feel busy or overwhelming, even if the space is technically tidy.

Start by walking through each room with fresh eyes and asking yourself:

Are there too many small objects on display?

Do shelves and surfaces feel crowded?

Is there a collection of random items in corners or on furniture?

Tips for reducing visual clutter:

Remove small items you no longer love or need.

Group similar items together rather than spreading them across multiple surfaces.

Leave some shelves, counters, or tabletops partially empty to create breathing space.

Limit decorative items to a few carefully chosen pieces that make you happy.

This step alone will make your home feel instantly more peaceful and spacious.

Step 3: Organize Seasonal Transitions

With spring arriving, you will naturally be transitioning from winter-specific items to spring essentials. Organizing these areas will make everyday life easier and bring a sense of renewal.

Key areas to focus on:

Entryway

Put away heavy coats, winter boots, and cold-weather accessories.

Replace with lightweight jackets, rain gear, and spring-friendly shoes.

Tidy up your entryway by using baskets, hooks, or small shelves to keep the space organized.

Living Room

Swap heavy throws and dark-colored pillows for lighter fabrics and brighter or pastel tones.

Remove or store winter-themed decor.

Consider rearranging furniture to create a more open and airy feel.

Bedrooms

Store away thick duvets and flannel sheets.

Bring out lighter bedding in cotton or linen.

Rotate spring and summer clothing to the front of wardrobes and drawers.

Outdoor Areas

Sweep patios, porches, or balconies.

Set up outdoor seating if the weather permits.

Consider planting a few spring flowers to brighten up the space.

Step 4: Use Smart Storage Solutions

Organizing for spring is also about storing the winter bulk in a way that will serve you next season.

Use vacuum-sealed bags for bulky winter bedding and clothing.

Label storage bins clearly to make it easy to find items next fall.

Store winter gear in less accessible areas, reserving prime storage space for spring and summer items.

This will make your home feel instantly less crowded and will prevent you from digging through off-season items when you do not need them.

Step 5: Refresh with Simple Spring Touches

Once you have decluttered and organized, you can add simple spring accents to make your home feel fresh. This is not about adding more clutter but about intentionally introducing a few seasonal elements.

Consider:

Adding a vase of fresh or faux flowers to your dining or coffee table.

Using lighter-colored pillow covers and throw blankets.

Switching candles and home fragrances to lighter, fresher scents.

Incorporating a few plants to bring a sense of life and greenery indoors.

Even small changes like these can make your home feel renewed and ready for the season ahead.

Step 6: Maintain the Light and Bright Atmosphere

After you have refreshed your home, the key is to maintain it.

Do a quick tidy-up each week to keep clutter at bay.

Be mindful when bringing new items into your home. Only add things that you love and that fit your lighter, brighter vision.

Reassess each month during spring to keep your home feeling fresh and open.

Final Thoughts

Organizing for a lighter, brighter home is one of the most satisfying ways to welcome spring. By decluttering, rearranging, and introducing small seasonal touches, you will create a space that feels calm, open, and inviting.

In next week’s post, we will focus on how to transition your wardrobe for spring with a simple, step-by-step approach to decluttering, storing, and organizing your clothing for the new season.

Spring is just around the corner, and with it comes the perfect opportunity to refresh your home. But spring cleaning can feel overwhelming if you do not have a plan. Rather than tackling everything at once, breaking the process down into manageable steps will help you clean efficiently without feeling burnt out.

This week, we will create a simple, step-by-step spring cleaning plan that you can customize to fit your lifestyle. Whether you want to deep clean your entire home or just freshen up key areas, this approach will keep you on track and help you make real progress.

Step 1: Define Your Spring Cleaning Goals

Before diving into cleaning tasks, take a moment to define what you want to accomplish. Some people aim for a complete home reset, while others focus on clearing out clutter and refreshing a few spaces.

Ask yourself the following questions:

What areas of my home need the most attention?

Do I want to focus on decluttering, deep cleaning, or both?

Are there any tasks I tend to put off that I should prioritize?

Setting clear goals will help you stay focused and make the process more manageable.

Step 2: Create a Realistic Timeline

Spring cleaning does not have to happen all in one weekend. The key to success is setting a realistic timeline that works with your schedule. Some people prefer to dedicate a full day or weekend to cleaning, while others break it up over several weeks.

Here are a few options for structuring your spring cleaning plan:

One-day intensive – If you prefer to get everything done quickly, choose a day when you can focus solely on cleaning.

One-week plan – Dedicate a couple of hours each day to cleaning specific rooms or tasks.

Month-long approach – Break tasks into smaller steps and complete one or two per day.

Choose the method that fits your schedule and energy level.

Step 3: Gather Your Supplies

Having the right supplies on hand will make cleaning faster and more efficient. Take inventory of what you already have and make a list of anything you need to restock.

Essentials include:

All-purpose cleaner

Glass cleaner

Disinfecting wipes or spray

Baking soda and vinegar for natural cleaning solutions

Microfiber cloths and sponges

Vacuum and mop

Trash bags and storage bins for decluttering

If you prefer to use eco-friendly products, consider making your own cleaners using simple ingredients like vinegar, baking soda, and lemon juice.

Step 4: Start with Decluttering

Before deep cleaning, it is helpful to clear out clutter. A decluttered home is easier to clean and feels more open and refreshed.

Follow these steps to declutter efficiently:

Start small – Choose one category, such as clothing, kitchen items, or paperwork, and work through it before moving on to the next.

Use the four-box method – Label four boxes or bags: Keep, Donate, Trash, and Store. Place each item into one of these categories as you go.

Set a timer – If decluttering feels overwhelming, set a 15- to 30-minute timer and focus on one area at a time.

Be decisive – If you have not used an item in over a year and it does not bring value to your life, consider letting it go.

Once you have decluttered, take donations to a charity or resale shop as soon as possible to avoid second-guessing your decisions.

Step 5: Deep Clean One Room at a Time

Now that you have cleared out clutter, it is time to deep clean. Working one room at a time will help you stay focused and see progress more quickly.

Once you have completed your spring cleaning, set up a simple maintenance routine to keep your home fresh and organized.

Here are a few quick daily and weekly habits to maintain cleanliness:

Make the bed every morning

Wipe down kitchen counters after cooking

Do a five-minute nightly tidy-up

Sweep or vacuum high-traffic areas weekly

Declutter one small space each week

By keeping up with small tasks regularly, you can extend the benefits of your spring cleaning efforts and keep your home feeling fresh year-round.

Final Thoughts

Spring cleaning does not have to be overwhelming. By breaking it into manageable steps, setting realistic goals, and creating a plan that works for your lifestyle, you can refresh your home without stress.

As March begins, we start to see the first hints of spring—longer days, slightly warmer temperatures, and a sense that winter is slowly fading away. But if your home still feels stuck in the cold season, now is the perfect time to shake off winter clutter and make space for a fresh start.

Decluttering before the official start of spring makes it easier to transition into the new season, preventing your home from feeling weighed down by unnecessary items. Let’s walk through a simple, step-by-step approach to clearing out winter clutter and preparing your home for a lighter, brighter spring.

Step 1: Identify and Pack Away Winter-Specific Items

Winter brings with it a lot of bulky and seasonal-specific items—coats, boots, holiday decorations, extra blankets, and more. If you’re not going to need them for another eight months, it’s time to put them away.

What to Pack Away

Winter clothing: Thick sweaters, heavy coats, snow boots, and gloves that won’t be needed as temperatures rise.

Seasonal bedding: Flannel sheets, heavy duvets, and fleece blankets can be washed, folded, and stored.

Winter sports gear: Ski equipment, snowshoes, and sleds can be cleaned and stored until next year.

Holiday decor: Any stray decorations or holiday items that didn’t get packed away in January should be put in their proper storage.

Tip: Use vacuum-sealed bags or labeled storage bins to save space and keep items organized. Keep one light jacket or sweater accessible for those lingering chilly days.

Step 2: Let Go of Unused Winter Items

Not everything needs to be stored away—some things should be let go. If you didn’t wear certain sweaters this winter, it’s time to donate them. If your kids outgrew their snow boots, pass them on to someone who can use them next year.

How to Decide What Stays and What Goes

Clothing rule: If you didn’t wear it this winter, you probably won’t next year.

Broken or worn-out items: Get rid of anything that’s too damaged to be useful next season.

Duplicates: If you have three pairs of black winter gloves, consider donating at least one.

Holiday leftovers: Half-burned winter-scented candles, festive decor that no longer fits your style, or old greeting cards—let them go.

Tip: Donate coats and winter gear to local shelters or charities while they are still useful to those in need.

Step 3: Refresh and Organize Storage Spaces

After removing winter clutter, take time to reorganize the storage areas where these seasonal items will be kept. This ensures that when winter rolls around again, everything will be easy to find.

Storage Organization Tips

Use clear storage bins: Label bins for “Winter Clothing,” “Holiday Decor,” or “Snow Gear” so you can quickly grab what you need next season.

Store shoes and boots properly: Clean and dry them before storing to prevent odors or mold. Consider boot shapers to maintain their form.

Rotate your closet: Move spring clothing to the front and winter clothing to the back or into storage bins.

Check expiration dates: If you stored canned soups, teas, or winter comfort foods, make sure they haven’t expired.

Tip: Store bins in a garage, attic, or under-bed storage space to keep closets clutter-free.

Step 4: Declutter Your Entryway and Living Spaces

During the winter, entryways and main living spaces tend to accumulate extra clutter—muddy boots, thick scarves, heavy coats, extra blankets. Now is the time to lighten things up.

Entryway Declutter Checklist

Remove extra coats and scarves from hooks or racks.

Store or donate extra winter shoes and boots.

Wipe down the area to remove salt, dirt, and grime from winter weather.

Swap out dark, heavy doormats for lighter, spring-friendly versions.

Living Room Refresh

Replace thick, winter throws with lighter, spring-friendly options.

Remove any winter decor, such as pinecones, holiday candles, or snow-themed items.

Dust and wipe down surfaces that have collected winter dust.

Tip: Adding fresh flowers or lighter-colored decor can instantly make your home feel ready for spring.

Step 5: Start Fresh with a Spring Cleaning Mini-Challenge

Once the clutter is out of the way, you can start thinking about deep-cleaning. But don’t overwhelm yourself—start small. Try a one-room-per-day challenge where you focus on one space at a time.

Mini-Challenge Example

Monday: Declutter and dust the entryway

Tuesday: Organize winter clothing and pack away seasonal items

Wednesday: Refresh the living room and swap out winter decor

Thursday: Deep-clean one kitchen or bathroom cabinet

Friday: Declutter and organize your bedside area

Tip: Set a timer for 15 minutes a day. Small daily tasks add up quickly.

Final Thoughts: Welcome the New Season

Decluttering before spring officially arrives makes it easier to transition into the new season without the stress of excess stuff weighing you down. By taking just a few days to pack away winter gear, let go of unused items, and refresh your home, you’ll feel a sense of lightness and readiness for warmer days.

What’s Next?

Next week, we’ll dive into creating a spring cleaning plan that actually works—without feeling overwhelming. Get ready to tackle the new season with ease.

Getting organized isn’t about achieving some unrealistic, magazine-perfect home. It’s about making your home work for you—helping you feel calmer, more productive, and more in control. If you’ve ever felt overwhelmed by clutter, struggled to find things when you need them, or just wished for a little more order in your day-to-day life, these three strategies will help you create an organized home that feels effortless to maintain.

1. Declutter With a Purpose: The Power of Quick Wins

Decluttering can feel daunting when you think of it as one big, overwhelming task. Instead, take a different approach—break it down into small, quick wins that make an instant impact.

Try the “One-Bag Declutter”

Set a timer for 10 or 15 minutes, grab a trash bag or donation box, and go through your home with one goal: to fill the bag with anything you no longer need, use, or love. You don’t have to organize everything right now—just focus on removing what’s unnecessary.

Some of the best places to do a quick declutter:

The entryway – Remove shoes, bags, or mail that don’t belong.

The kitchen counter – Toss expired coupons, old takeout menus, or gadgets you never use.

The closet – Get rid of clothes that don’t fit or that you never wear.

Your purse or work bag – Say goodbye to old receipts, used tissues, and unnecessary clutter.

Why this works: It’s fast, easy, and instantly makes your home feel lighter. Plus, once you get started, you’ll often want to keep going.

Bonus tip: If you want a structured approach, try a 30-day decluttering challenge where you tackle one small space each day, like a drawer, shelf, or surface.

2. Create Simple Systems for Everyday Life

An organized home isn’t about perfection—it’s about having simple systems that make life easier. If you find yourself constantly tidying up or looking for lost items, it’s time to create designated spaces for things you use every day.

Start with these easy systems:

The “Drop Zone” for Everyday Essentials – Choose a small area near the entrance of your home for keys, bags, and sunglasses. A basket or hooks can keep everything in one place.

The “One-Minute Reset” Rule – Before leaving a room, take 60 seconds to put things back where they belong. Small actions like straightening pillows, closing cabinet doors, and tossing laundry in the hamper keep clutter from spiraling.

Mail and Paper Control – Instead of letting paperwork pile up, set up an “action tray” for bills, invitations, and important papers. Sort through it once a week to keep things from getting out of hand.

Nightly Reset Routine – Spend just five minutes before bed tidying up the kitchen, putting things away, and setting up for the next day. It makes mornings feel so much easier.

Why this works: When everything has a place, you save time and avoid frustration. Plus, keeping up with organization in small, daily doses prevents big messes from building up.

3. Organize Your Home in Just 5 Minutes a Day

One of the biggest myths about home organization is that you need to spend hours cleaning and decluttering. The reality? A few minutes a day is enough to keep your home in great shape.

The “Organize in 5” Method

Each day, choose one small organizing task and spend just five minutes on it. Here are some ideas:

Day 1 – Designate a donation box and drop in one item you no longer need.

Day 2 – Organize your utensil drawer by removing duplicates and broken items.

Day 3 – Go through your wardrobe and pick out five items to donate or toss.

Day 4 – Tidy up your bathroom counter and get rid of expired products.

Day 5 – Clear off your nightstand and keep only essentials.

Why this works: Small daily actions add up over time, so you never have to spend an entire weekend trying to “get organized” again. Sign up here to get a free 5-minute organizing task in your inbox everyday.

Final Thoughts

The secret to an organized home isn’t doing everything at once—it’s about making organization a simple, daily habit.

Start with quick decluttering sessions to create instant space.

Set up easy-to-follow systems so everything has a place.

Use the 5-minute rule to maintain order without stress.

By taking small, consistent steps, you’ll create a home that feels peaceful, functional, and clutter-free. And the best part? You’ll spend less time cleaning and more time enjoying your space.

What’s one small thing you can do today to make your home feel more organized? Let me know in the comments!

The irony isn’t lost on most of us: we’re too busy to get organized, yet our disorganization makes us even busier. This common catch-22 leaves many feeling trapped in a cycle of chaos, where the very thought of organizing seems overwhelming. However, breaking free from this pattern is not only possible but can dramatically improve your productivity and reduce stress. Here’s some ideas for finding time for organization when time feels scarce.

Start with the 2-Minute Rule

The journey to getting organized begins with small steps. If a task takes less than two minutes to complete, do it immediately. This could be filing a document, clearing your desk, or sorting through today’s mail. These micro-actions might seem insignificant, but they serve two crucial purposes: preventing the accumulation of clutter and building momentum for larger organizational projects. When you consistently handle small tasks immediately, you prevent them from becoming part of a larger organizational burden later.

Focus on High-Impact Areas

Not all disorganization is created equal. Some cluttered spaces cost you significantly more time and energy than others. Start by identifying your “pain points” – areas where disorganization consistently slows you down or causes stress. Is it your email inbox? Your desk? Your project management system? Your kitchen counter? Focus your initial organizing efforts on these high-impact areas. The immediate benefits you’ll experience will motivate you to continue organizing other spaces.

Break Down Projects into Micro-Tasks

Instead of setting ambitious goals like “organize the entire office,” break organization into smaller, manageable tasks. “Sort one drawer,” “clear email inbox,” or “organize bookshelf” are more approachable targets. These micro-tasks can fit into the small pockets of time you already have – between meetings, during your lunch break, or while waiting for a call to start. Keep a running list of these tasks and tackle them opportunistically.

Create Systems, Not Perfection

The goal of organizing isn’t to create magazine-worthy spaces but to establish sustainable systems that prevent future chaos. Simple frameworks can make a significant difference:

The “one goes in, one goes out” (OCI-OGO) rule: When you acquire something new, remove something old

The “handle it once” principle: Deal with items (especially paper and email) immediately rather than setting them aside for later

The “everything has a home” system: Designate specific places for items and always return them there

The “regular reset” routine: Spend 5-10 minutes at day’s end returning items to their proper places

Time-Block for Organization

Instead of waiting for the “perfect time” to organize, schedule it. Block out 15-30 minutes in your calendar, treat it like any other important appointment, and focus solely on organizing during that time. This dedicated time ensures organization becomes a priority rather than an afterthought.

Use the “Power Hour” Method

Once a week, dedicate one hour to focused organizing. During this power hour, tackle a specific area or project without distractions. You might be surprised how much you can accomplish in a focused hour – and how motivating it is to see visible progress.

Implement the “Touch It Once” Philosophy

When handling items – whether physical or digital – make immediate decisions about their fate. Sort mail as soon as it arrives, process emails when you read them, and deal with documents when they cross your desk. This prevents the accumulation of decision backlogs that require more time to process later.

Leverage Technology Wisely

Use digital tools to streamline organization:

Set up automated filters for email

Use task management apps for recurring organizational tasks

Implement digital filing systems for documents

Use calendar reminders for regular maintenance tasks

Build Maintenance Routines

Prevention is easier than cure. Establish simple daily and weekly maintenance routines to keep spaces organized:

End-of-day desk clearing

Weekly email inbox processing

Monthly digital file organization

Quarterly deep-cleaning and organizing sessions

Start Now, Start Small

The best time to start organizing is now, and the best way to start is small. Choose one tiny area that’s bothering you and spend just five minutes organizing it. Success in organization isn’t about dramatic transformations – it’s about consistent, small actions that compound over time.

Remember: Perfect organization isn’t the goal

The aim is to create functional spaces and systems that support your productivity and reduce stress. Start with small steps, focus on progress over perfection, and watch as your efficient new systems give you back the time you thought you didn’t have.

Start with a daily 5-minute organizing task – sent to your inbox every day. And it’s free! Sign up here.

If you feel unhappy with what you accomplish by the end of a day, then there’s a good chance the reasons lie here.

1. You Ignore Your Preferences

We all have rhythms and idiosyncrasies that make us productive little dynamos in some circumstances and virtual zombies in others.

Some people work well in the morning, in a busy office, with a range of projects, and lots of spontaneity. Others don’t get going till the evening and need peace, focus, and routine. Others fall everywhere in between.

Do you know what brings out your most productive self?

Do you allow yourself to structure your time and your environment to provide what you need for maximum effectiveness?

2. You Think There’s Time For Everything

Life is short, days are short, we’re all busy, change is never-ending. Nobody gets everything perfectly done.

The best we can hope for is to get the important things done.

But as long as you believe it’s all doable, you’ll fall into the trap of thinking you have time for the small stuff. And that can keep the big stuff forever out of your reach.

3. You Don’t Know Which Activities Really Matter

Because there’s so much to do, it can sometimes be difficult to identify which are the activities that matter.

In any career, goal, project, or challenge there will be magic activities that accelerate your progress, and without which you can’t succeed.

The trick is to analyze your priorities and get ruthless about the way you spend your time. Otherwise you can stay clueless about what will bring the best returns on your limited time and energy.

4. You Don’t Have An Effective Time Management System

No, I’m not talking about your awesome new app or leather-bound diary.

I’m talking about you – the way you manage yourself day-to-day, the way you decide what needs to be done, and to check off the things that matter.

Until you have this system down, you may be squandering your energy and time and wondering why you aren’t making better progress.

5. You Don’t Know How To Focus

One of the most common complaints among people who feel frustrated with their productivity is that they can never finish anything.

Although it’s a perfectly recognizable problem, it’s one that has to be overcome if you want to increase your personal effectiveness and become more productive.

Only by learning to focus can you complete those important tasks and become a master at getting stuff done.

6. You’re A Perfectionist

Are you nodding at this? While straightening your keyboard?

Being a perfectionist can serve you in some ways – it means you have high standards, do great work, take immense pride in your contributions.

But it’s not a great quality when it come to getting things done. If you want to improve your time-management skills, then letting go of perfectionistic standards for things that really don’t matter is an essential step.

7. You Procrastinate

Procrastination is human and we all do it sometimes. Procrastination itself is not the enemy.

What stands in the way of productivity is the mind games we play around the very natural tendency to put off the difficult act of getting started.

Procrastination is a challenge most people relate to. Which is not surprising, given that the solution often involves solving all 6 problems above.

Because when you work with your natural preferences, when you’re clear about how little time you have in life, when you know which activities are magic, and how to fit them into your day, when you’ve learned how to focus and you’ve let go of needing your efforts to be perfect, then procrastination all but disappears.

What Are Your Productivity Obstacles?

What holds you back from getting things done?

Do you relate to any of these reasons?

The holidays are a fun time of year, but they can also create stress if you allow them to clutter your home and schedule. You may be overwhelmed by the combined demands of things like cards, shopping, gift-wrapping, decorating, cooking and travel. Fortunately, these tips can help you get organized and enjoy the season:

1. Set Priorities

Don’t try to do everything; decide what really matters and focus on it. Is it really important to decorate the outside of your house or travel long distances for a party? The answers are different for each person. Some priorities to consider:

Mailing paper cards

Giving thoughtful gifts

Preparing a holiday feast

Donating to charity

2. Send Cards Soon

If you choose to mail paper holiday cards, be sure to buy, write, address and send them early. Otherwise, they might arrive late or create stress as you hurry at the last minute. It’s wise to mail them by December 17 (earlier if you send any overseas).

3. Be Flexible

Don’t be afraid to make adjustments to your traditions. Maybe it’s time for some new music, movies or decor. Around one out of four people decorate for the holidays before late November, according to Martha Stewart’s website. Do what works for you and your family, not what your grandparents or “most people” do.

4. Simplify Gifting

Take the time to plan ahead before you shop. Write lists, set a budget and resist temptations to overspend. It can be stressful to find one ideal gift for each person. Consider giving a few small presents instead. This way, it isn’t a huge problem if the recipient doesn’t like one item.

5. Wrap Efficiently

After buying gifts, wrapping paper and clear tape, set aside a special wrapping area in your home. It should provide plenty of space and be free of unrelated clutter. You’ll need scissors, labels and a pen or marker. Some pleasant holiday music might make the task more enjoyable.

6. Remember to Relax

Don’t let this time of year become too hectic. Regardless of how many things you still need to do, always devote some time to relaxation each day. You could watch an old film, read a novel, do yoga or draw with colored pencils.

7. Stay Healthy

It’s easy to forget normal healthy habits during the holiday season. Many people also eat and drink more than usual. You’ll feel better if you remember to exercise, prepare nutritious meals and sleep at least seven hours. Drinking enough water can also make a big difference.

8. Forgo Perfection

While perfection may seem common in magazines and TV shows, few people really have the time and money needed to achieve it. No reasonable person truly cares if your cards, gift-wrapping or decorations are flawless. A decent effort to make things presentable is quite sufficient.

Finally, remember to concentrate on the true meaning of this special time of year. The holidays weren’t created with retail “doorbusters” in mind. Reflect on what really matters in life, and take some time to brighten the lives of people around you.

Here's how to get the most out of your Organize In 5 Diary and get the year off to an organized start.

The Two Biggest Reasons Most People Can’t Get Organized

Most of us would like to be more organized and to have less clutter. So what stops us?

Two of the biggest obstacles to a calmer, simpler life and a decluttered house are:

Having enough time to do the organizing and decluttering

Knowing where to start

These obstacles are precisely why I created the Organize In 5 Diary.

Because it breaks the process of decluttering and organizing your home into 365 x 5-minute chunks, even the busiest person can find the time to declutter and organize.

And because each task is set out for you each day, you always know exactly where to start.

‘…Wonderful organization ideas… very easy and doable. I also like that some days I will get a “day off” or a catch-up day when I don’t need to do one of the tasks.’

How To Get The Most Out Of The Organize In 5 Diary

To help you use the diary for maximum effectiveness, I’ve set out some tips for you.

1. Save Your Organize In 5 Diary To Your Desktop

That way, you’ll see it every day and be reminded to complete your task.

2. Do Your 5-Minute Organizing Task At Around The Same Time Every Day

This will help you to create a habit. And once you’re in the habit of doing a little decluttering every day, you’ll find that decluttering becomes natural and easy.

You might even like to set a recurring daily reminder on your phone or computer.

3. Do Your 5-Minute Organizing Task First Each Day

Ideally, do your task before anything else each day. By getting your task out of the way early, you’ll make sure it gets done, no matter what else the day has in store for you.

3 Quick Tips for using your Goals & Priorities Diary so you can get the new year off to an organized start.

Make This The Year You Achieve Your Goals

What gets in the way of you achieving your goals?

Often what stops people is:

Not being clear about what their goals are

Not translating their goals into specific tasks that move them closer to their goals

Not taking regular steps toward goal achievement

Clarifying goals, chunking them down, and scheduling them is exactly what the Goals & Priorities Diary is all about.

It’s a systematic, stress-free way to advance your goals – day by day, week by week, month by month.

‘I downloaded it to my PC and began to see whether it would work for me. I quickly realized that it was a fabulous tool! It provides the ability for both long and short term planning. It allows me to make plans for a day, a week, a quarter, or an entire year. The best lesson, however, was learning to identify, accomplish and check off the Top 3 Priorities for each day.’

~ Laura

How To Get The Most Out Of The Goals & Priorities Diary

To help you use the diary to really move ahead with your goals, here are some tips for you.

1. Start The Year By Planning Your Goals

Begin the year by completing the Current Year Goals to create a list of goals.

These goals may change over time, but your initial list will help you to get yourself started, and to get some good goal habits in place.

2. Schedule Monthly ‘Goal Meetings’ With Yourself

Before the start of each month, take yourself off to a cafe or pour yourself glass of wine and take some time to complete the Goals Planner exercise.

Keeping this monthly appointment with yourself will help you to structure your goal setting and maintain momentum over the year.

3. Complete Your Top 3 Priorities First Each Day

Ideally, use the daily planner to complete your top 3 priorities before anything else each day.

This way, regardless of what else your day brings up, you’ll make regular progress toward your goals.

All Courses Customers

Of course, if you’ve purchased the All Courses bundle then your Goals & Priorities Diary has already been added to your Get Organized Gal account.

As a long time home organizer who’s helped lots of busy people tackle their clutter over the years, I’ve seen it all. And let me tell you – some of the organizing advice floating around social media these days makes me want to bang my head against my perfectly organized filing cabinet!

Let’s talk about seven popular organizing tips that sound great in theory but can actually make your life more complicated. Plus, I’ll share what actually works in the real world, where we have jobs, kids, pets, and lives that don’t look like Instagram posts.

1. Drop Everything and KonMari Your Entire House!

You’ve probably seen this one: “Take everything you own, dump it in a pile, and don’t stop until you’ve touched every single item you own!” Sure, Marie’s method works great… if you’re living alone and have two weeks of vacation time to spare.

But for most of us? This is like saying you should run a marathon when you’ve never jogged around the block. You’ll end up exhausted, overwhelmed, and probably surrounded by even more mess than you started with!

What Works Instead: Start small, my friend. Pick one drawer, one shelf, or even just your sock collection. Small wins build confidence and momentum. Plus, you can actually finish what you started before the kids come home from school or your lunch break ends. Remember, you’re playing the long game here – slow and steady organization is way better than a crash-and-burn decluttering breakdown.

2. Toss Anything You Haven’t Used in 6 Months!

This rule makes me chuckle. Following it strictly means throwing out your winter coat in summer, your beach umbrella in winter, and probably those fancy wine glasses you save for special occasions. And let’s not even talk about that emergency kit you hopefully never have to use!

What Works Instead: Instead of following a rigid timeline, ask yourself some practical questions:

• Does this item serve a specific purpose in my life?

• When I do need it, is it important?

• Would replacing it be a hassle or expensive?

• Does it fit my current lifestyle (not my fantasy lifestyle)?

Sometimes keeping that rarely-used pizza stone is totally fine – especially if you make amazing pizzas every other month!

3. Buy All Your Storage Solutions First!

Oh boy, this one’s a classic mistake. You see those beautiful matching containers at the store and think, “This is it! These will change my life!” Next thing you know, you’ve spent $200 on bins and baskets, and they’re just… adding to your clutter.

What Works Instead: Here’s a revolutionary idea – declutter first, organize second, and shop third. Once you know what you’re actually keeping, measure your spaces and make a specific list of what you need. Those pretty containers will work much better when you know exactly what’s going in them! Plus, you might find you already have perfectly good storage solutions hiding in your home.

4. Make Everything Instagram-Worthy!

Listen, those color-coded bookshelves and rainbow-organized closets look amazing online. But unless maintaining a photo-ready home is your full-time job (and if it is, more power to you!), this level of perfection is going to drive you nuts.

What Works Instead: Focus on function over fashion. Sure, make it pleasant to look at if you can, but prioritize systems that work for real life. Your pantry doesn’t need to look like a Container Store display to be functional. If your family can find the snacks and you’re not finding expired food from 2019 hiding in the back, you’re winning!

5. Label EVERYTHING!

Some organizing gurus act like your house will fall into chaos if every container doesn’t have a professional-looking label. Sure, labels can be helpful, but do you really need to label the box of tissues or the fruit bowl?

What Works Instead: Use labels where they actually add value – like with similar-looking spices, storage boxes in the basement, or kids’ art supplies. For everything else? If you can see what’s inside or it’s obvious what something is, skip the label. Your coffee maker probably doesn’t need a “COFFEE MAKER” label, I promise.

6. Copy This Exact System That Works for Me!

We’ve all seen those viral organizing videos where someone shows off their perfect system. And yes, their method of organizing their fridge looks amazing! But here’s the thing – they might not have three kids who raid the fridge like tiny locusts, or a partner who believes putting things back is optional.

What Works Instead: Think of organizing systems like recipes – they’re meant to be adapted to your taste. Take inspiration from others, but modify everything to fit your:

• Space constraints

• Daily routines

• Family habits

• Energy levels

• Lifestyle needs

The best system is one that your whole household can (and will) maintain.

7. If It Doesn’t Spark Joy, Toss It!

While I appreciate the sentiment behind this famous advice, let’s be real – my toilet brush and tax documents don’t spark joy, but they’re kind of important to keep around! This oversimplified approach to decision-making can lead to some regrettable choices.

What Works Instead: Consider both practical and emotional value. Ask yourself:

• Is this useful in my current life?

• Does it make my life easier or better?

• Would I buy it again if I needed it?

• Does it have genuine sentimental value?

• Is keeping it worth the space it takes up?

Sometimes the most valuable things aren’t the ones that spark joy – they’re the ones that make your life run smoothly.

The Bottom Line

Remember, the goal of organizing isn’t to create a perfect space – it’s to create a space that works perfectly for you and your life. Don’t get caught up in the “rules” or picture-perfect examples online. Instead, focus on creating systems that make your daily life easier and less stressful.

Start small, be realistic, and celebrate your progress. And hey, if your sock drawer isn’t color-coded or your spices aren’t alphabetized, but you can find what you need when you need it? That’s a win in my book!

Now, go tackle that one drawer that’s been bugging you. Just that drawer. Trust me, it’s enough to get started, and you might even have fun doing it!

Thanksgiving is fast approaching. While you’re coping with all the hubbub of getting ready for the feasts and festivities of the holiday season, with shopping, cooking, decorating the home and preparing for guests, it can be easy to lose sight of why we are celebrating. Wouldn’t it be nice to pause for a moment and reflect on reasons to feel a sense of gratitude for what we have? To get things started, here are things to be thankful for this Thanksgiving.

1. Family

Think of just how happy you are with being able to spend warm moments with all the young and old members of your family. Thanksgiving is often the only time during the year where the entire family can get together and celebrate.

The festivities are about bringing all the generations together under one roof to enjoy one another’s company. Kids come home from college, excited to reunite with relatives, especially those they haven’t gotten a chance to see in a while. Grandparents are delighted with how big the grandchildren are growing, and everyone gets to catch up on family news since the last get-together.

2. Friends

One great thing about the Thanksgiving holiday is that it reminds us we have chances to make new friends every year, and celebrate old friendships time and time again. Being thankful for friends acknowledges the special place they hold in our hearts. If you try to imagine how your life would be without your closest friends, it helps underscore just how important we are to one another.

3. Great Food

Since Thanksgiving is known for being that time of year where people eat abundantly, the great dishes you enjoy are definitely something to be thankful for. Whether everything is made from scratch in one kitchen, or the meal is expanded with dishes that family members bring along or are even prepared by caterers, the delicious food is a cause for giving thanks loudly and often.

You can be thankful for the food itself and the nourishment it provides. It’s also time to thank the people who prepared the food. Of course, Thanksgiving reminds us to feel grateful that the food has helped bring everyone together to enjoy each other’s company.

4. Memories

Every family gathering is a chance to remember the past and make new memories to repeat at the next get-together. This Thanksgiving, you may spark conversations by sharing recent videos and pictures. People always have fun stories to recount, and the tales get better and better over the years with perhaps a little embellishment!

Shared memories are part of the glue that helps keep families together. So every Thanksgiving feast you experience helps to create a fresh set of memories to make family bonds even stronger than before.

5. New Experiences

Think about all of the new things you’ve experienced during the previous 12 months. Perhaps you traveled somewhere new this year? Or maybe you have picked up a hobby? Other things to cherish include trying new food, and getting a chance to hear some new music. Many people maybe you had a new experience with something you have loved your whole life.

6. Quiet Time

Thanksgiving is a good opportunity to reflect on those quiet moments when you took some “me time.” It’s not just the opportunities for you to plan your life on your own, but also the times you spent to enjoy your own company. For example, when you put your mind to a hobby, or just stretched back to relax.

7. Laughter

As the saying goes, laughter is the best medicine. Certainly at the very least, you could say that laughter forms the life bond of strong friendships. Being thankful for the laughter that you share with friends and family is an excellent way to commemorate the Thanksgiving holiday.

8. Smiles

These expressions of happiness and joy aren’t just for friends. You can share smiles with neighbors, strangers and new communities alike. Remember that smiles are free, easily replenishable and they are contagious! Just try to avoid smiling back when someone else is beaming at you.

9. Gratitude All Year Long

The pleasant feeling you get from counting your blessings is something to experience all year round, and not just around the Thanksgiving holiday season. Keeping in mind the things you are thankful for can improve your mood and in turn help spread a sense of well being among the people you encounter every day.

With Thanksgiving just hours away, it’s time to share what we’re thankful for this year.

Here’s my humble thanksgiving list. What’s on yours? Share on our social channels or in the comments below!

(BTW if you’re looking for more – check out our post last year with 100 Things to be Thankful For At Thanksgiving)

1. Family

For some of us, there’s nothing quite like the joy of family, especially during the holiday periods. You’ll remember the time you spend together forever and there’s always new memories to be made. Try out a new activity or go somewhere new with your family this year!

However if being with your family doesn’t bring you joy then try to make the best of the moment. Being forced to have family time can be very stressful, so manage your time, and be thankful you don’t have to see them everyday!

2. Friends

While most of our time might seem to be devoted to kids, work and family life it’s good to take some time out to catch up with old friends or make new ones. Everyone needs someone to share embarrassing stories and have a laugh.

3. Health

Being thankful for your own health and the health of your family and friends makes the holidays even better. For those of you struggling with health or with grief in the family, we hope that you have the support you need to cope with the changes.

4. Coffee

You’ll be needing lots of coffee over the holidays! Early mornings spent travelling to see family and getting through to-do lists before the holidays means coffee is necessary and I’m extremely thankful for it!

5. Food

If you’re a foodie then you’ll be very excited about all the delicious food you’ll be tasting over the holidays. If you don’t have any tasty food to look forward to think about organizing a BBQ with friends and get everyone to bring a dish!

6. Binge Watching

The holidays can be busy but if you’re lucky you’ll find yourself with nothing to do on a weekend! Don’t make plans if you don’t want to! This is the perfect time to binge watch something on Netflix. Put on your guilty pleasure show and just binge.

7. Learning Something New Every Day

Thanks to the internet, you have a database of new skills to learn and news to catch up on. If you’re not feeling so in touch with the world this holidays, take a step back and do a free online course in any topic that interests you, or watch some educational YouTube videos!

8. Quiet Time

A busy holiday period necessitates some quiet time spent alone. Whether you like to meditate, listen to music with headphones or go for a stroll with your dog, take some time out for you.

9. Holidays

Some of us are probably overwhelmed by the holiday period coming up. As long as you stay organized and know what is happening and when it’s happening, you’ll cope much better! Try to find enjoyment in the little things, make great memories, and enjoy the time with your family and friends.

Thanksgiving is just around the corner, so it’s the perfect time for me to say a heartfelt thank you to the entire Get Organized Wizard community. Thanks for being so enthusiastic about organizing and sharing your incredible feedback over the years.

To say thanks, here are 2 handy Thanksgiving resources to help you to be more organized during the holidays, but more importantly: to help you be thankful and happy!

They’re interactive, reusable planners. You can type and save on your computer, or print and write by hand.

1. Grocery List Template

2. Gratitude Journal

Being thankful actually makes you happier, according to a bunch of studies. Any of these will help to increase your happiness:

Writing about positive events (1)

Counting your blessings (2)

Noting 3 good things each day (3).

You can do any or all of these with the Gratitude Journal.

Don’t get caught off-guard by the impending Thanksgiving holiday. Here are things you can do to get your house ready for Thanksgiving that are easy to start doing now, so you won’t be feeling rushed closer to that much-anticipated fourth Thursday of November!

That special day when we pause collectively to give thanks for all that we have is soon upon us. Don’t get caught off-guard by the impending Thanksgiving holiday. This can be quite a busy time of year, so planning ahead now will make it much easier and less stressful when you want your space ready for family and guests to enjoy time together.

Here are things you can do to get your house ready for Thanksgiving that are easy to start doing now, so you won’t be feeling rushed closer to that much-anticipated fourth Thursday of November!

1. Make a List of Who Is Coming

“Who will be my guests?” should be top of mind. This will give you a head count, so you’ll know if you need to put out a second dining table, for example, and how many chairs you’ll be needing to entertain the crowd.

You’ll also want to stock the guest bathroom with extra towels, soap, toilet tissue and candles, since more people than usual will be using the facilities.

2. Determine What Food to Prepare

When you have a pretty good idea of how many people are coming over, you’ll be ready to plan how much food to purchase for the main event. Of course, there are no worries if you overestimate, since you’ll then have some delicious leftovers to look forward to.

At this point, you’ll also want to keep in mind what types of food to prepare, which is crucial if you have guests with food allergies.

If a large crowd is coming, check that you have enough dishes and cutlery. When you are in short supply, borrow extras from a neighbor, friend or relative.

3. Pin Down a Schedule to Clean the House

There’s an old saying that, if you fail to plan, you are planning to fail. So, it’s important that you actually make a schedule so you and your family can get the whole house cleaned up, inside and out, before Thanksgiving arrives.

Put up the details on a calendar or a planner, such as on the kitchen wall, to keep everyone on track. It’s easy for people to forget about their duties when they are busy with end-of-year tasks!

4. Delegate Chores to Your Family Members

You’ll find that the Thanksgiving holiday preparations to transform your house will go much more smoothly (and faster!) when you enlist the entire family.

Assign chores to each person based on their abilities and interests, such as one child may make decorations while another one is in charge of moving furniture to make space in the living room for additional guests.

5. Have a Wonderful Thanksgiving Celebration

Getting your home squared away in plenty of time before Thanksgiving should go easier when you try the above-mentioned tips. And when your home is ready, you will breathe a sigh of relief that one more item on your holiday to-do list is checked off.

Here’s hoping that this will be a memorable Thanksgiving holiday for you and your loved ones!

It’s More Fun to Be Organized When Preparing for the Thanksgiving Holiday. Here are some advice to get ready for Thanksgiving while enjoying it.

If guests knew how much work goes on behind the scenes to carry out a successful Thanksgiving celebration, they will marvel at your organizational skills. Whether this is your very first Thanksgiving where you are in charge or if you have been arranging holiday feasts for many years now, there is always room for improvement, in terms of staying neat and organized.

But if organization is not your strongest skill, here is some advice to help you get ready for Thanksgiving now, while still enjoying it.

1. Prepare Extra Room In Your Refrigerator

You’ll need a lot of space to accommodate the main dish, such as a turkey. Make sure there is room in the refrigerator now, so you aren’t surprised when it comes time to cook everything. And remember that you will need to allocate a bit of space to store leftovers at the end of the meal.

2. Start Getting Your Home for the Holiday

Take care of routine cleaning tasks, and prepare the guest bedroom now so you don’t have to rush at the last minute when friends or family arrive.

3. Straighten Out Your Kitchen Now!

A messy kitchen will make Thanksgiving meal preparation and cooking more complicated and it will take longer to do routine tasks. Get rid of items on your counters that don’t need to be on display, such as seldom-used appliances. Any food you are storing out on the counter should go in a cabinet or on a shelf. You’ll need plenty of space to prepare all the treats for feast day.

4. Buy All Non-Perishables Ahead of Time

Any dry and canned goods (or frozen) that are on your Thanksgiving list should be purchased well ahead of Thanksgiving. That way, you won’t waste time driving around to stores or find yourself nervously waiting for items to be delivered on time.

5. Devise a Realistic Cooking Schedule

Don’t try to be a hero when it comes to cooking dishes for Thanksgiving. Figure out how long it will probably take you to make the main course as well as the side dishes. Perhaps some visitors will be bringing items, such as a casserole or a pie to help. Once you have a clearer idea of what you’ll be preparing, you can set up a cooking schedule that will reflect reality. Any items that you can cook ahead of time and freeze will help you make a cooking schedule that gives you the least stress.
