Good design matters, even on a disposable Pantry Moth Trap... For years customers complained about outdated wood grain or worse, garish yellow and red logos on moth traps that are seen everyday.
Good design matters so Able Catch division of Traps Direct set out to improve the pheromone pantry moth trap... the ACPPT is here, and it works in ways you might not think of.... but will now.

Combine an industry first Trap-ezoid shape, airborne deployment using TAB WNGS , catch power from Professional Agricultural Grade Pheromone Lures in an attractive granite / stone green package and you have the Able Catch Pantry Pest Trap ( ACPPT )

A Better Moth Trap

3 years in the making, 25 different concept models and countless focus groups led the way to perfect the newly released ACPPT pro-strength pantry moth trap. In an effort to build a better moth trap, Traps Direct engineers studied 10 years of customer feed back, reviewed catch patterns on hundreds of customer photos and worked with 25 different shapes to re-imagine the simple pantry moth trap. Along the journey they were frequently asked “why change a throw away product”? Why? Because even a throw away product sits in our homes and should be attractive and effective. “thoughtful Eco-friendly design can benefit customers as well as the planet, so what if it gets thrown away, customers don’t want something ugly in their homes”. All of this led to the Able Catch Pantry Pest Trap – a pheromone moth trap made better by design.

National Brand Moth Trap Feedback

After selling other national brand moth traps for years, feedback from customers uncovered some consistent issues:

Wood Grain Moth Traps don’t match my decor

Pantry Moth Traps with BOLD Letters and COLORS draws to much attention

How do you catch a flying moth with a trap sitting on a shelf?
A fair number of customer comments expressed frustration wondering how a trap on a cupboard shelf was meant to catch a flying moth.

Why do both lures come in the same package

Moth Traps waste space in my crowded cupboard

Customer Moth Trap Photos

Careful review of customer moth trap photos sent to Traps Direct and Posted on other websites revealed that many moths are caught near the Trap Active Field Entrance ( TAFE ) and many brand have less than 100% Trap Active Field ( TAF ) leaving wasting potential trap field unable to catch anything. Customer photos also indicated customers attempting to tape or hang the trap to conserve shelf space.

Elements of a Better Moth Trap

Changes needed to make a pantry moth better:

Updated Color and Patterns

Reduce wasted counter space

Reduce package waste

Increase trap field

Flexible placement

Single wrap pheromone

Each of the elements of a Better Moth Trap carry hours of design discussion that will be explored over time, but for now the release of ACPPT moth traps blends all of these elements into a modern, sleek, functional and effective pro-strength pantry moth trap designed specifically for Direct to Home Owner distribution. Moth Trap 2.0 to quote technologists.

For most moth traps the TAB is only used to assemble the trap, but Able Catch Pantry Pest Traps put the TAB to work by giving it wings... TAB WINGS are used to Tuck , Hook or Loop the Trap onto everyday items.
Why does moth trap placement with TAB WINGS matter? Because moths FLY.... Bring the moth trap to the moth flight level with Able Catch Moth Traps..

Already seen the reports on the Able Catch moth trap? If you then you may already be aware of the versatile Tab Wings, but if not we’ll bring you up to date.

The lowly pest trap tab

Instead of focusing on the Able Catch Moth Trap Basics (which are covered in detail elsewhere) let’s explore the Tab and its Wings. On most pantry moth traps, you know the drill… Prefold, remove the liner, place the pheromone lure then Insert Tab into Slot, and put the trap near moths. With the traditional moth traps that’s the TAB’s only purpose, then it just sits there keeping the trap assembled.

Moth Trap Tabs come in all sizes some are stubby, some are wide, some take up way too much space that could have been used to catch a moth. Then there is the angle of the tab, in many cases the Tab & trap are at odd angles, and more times than not the trap forms a triangle and the tab and slot sit at the top, in the middle of the trap.

Moth Trap TAB moves to the edge

Traps Direct took an alternate view of the trap tab, and designed the Able Catch Tab to work long after the moth trap is assembled. The first design change was a change to a 4 sided trap ( a TRAPezoid ) , which doubled the Active Trap Flight Entrance (ATFE) zone, but it also moved the TAB and SLOT to a the upper back corner of the pantry pest trap. Now the Able Catch Pantry Pest Trap can sit flush against a wall, with no loss of trap space.

Able Catch TAB WINGS

It’s an improvement to be able to place the moth trap against a flat surface, but the tricks of this tab don’t stop there. Notice that the TAB is Wider than most tabs, and it has a valley in the middle. If you look only at the TAB itself, it might appear that the right and left side of the tab form WINGS… and the middle section could imagine a head, making the depression a TAB NECK.

This quarter inch outer edge of the tab does in fact work like wings…

Use the wings flat to TAB WING TUCK ,

fold the wings back to use the TAB WING HOOK, or

Bend the wings overhead for an extended TAB WING LOOP

More on these in another post.

Customers struggle to battle pantry moths that worm their way into more of our global food supply. We try to provide advice and innovative strategies to battle these persistent pests.

The most common question we receive is: “help! I need to know how to get rid of moths in my…. ”
Ok, actually there are often times expletive words describing pantry moths and their gross larvae and cocoons, but the point is the same. First pantry moths are discovered in your home (garage, pantry, kitchen, storage room etc). Second you come to explore the pantry moth life cycle and discover the moths have been living with you for months. Third you want to get rid of the infestation.

Getting rid of a moth infestation

Safe removal of the pestilence that is a moth infestation requires capture of the adult breeding males, and eradication of the non adult moths ( larvae and pupae). Moth Larvae and Pupae are removed through a cleaning process that searches out nooks and crannies while the adults are lured into pheromone glue traps to be caught and taken off the breeding market.

Able Catch Pantry Pest Traps (ACPPT) deliver the most concentrated form of Pantry Moth Traps available today. Using a modern trapezoidal design, these green moth traps integrate into your modern world (ie fake wood grain here) using a small footprint, and wide trap entrance zone coupled with a well placed agricultural pheromone lure. In addition the placement options seem endless with the introduction of the Wing Tab design. This innovation is deployed with the trap assembled, by bending the outer 1/4″ edge of the Wing Tab to reveal a placement mechanism.

Wing Tab moth trap placement options:

Wing Tab Tuck :
The right angle of the tab enables flush placement in any friction held gap. Wing Tabs can be folded back to increase the thickness of the tuck for larger gaps.

Wing Tab Hooks:
The outer edge of the Tab end can be bent back to expose an arch to hook onto a surface like a wall hanging, crown molding edge, or wood shutters. The inside of the hook slopes to a point for stable hanging and the outer corner of the hook sweeps back at 60 degrees to a point that resembles a hooking piton used in rock climbing. The hook can be used on thickness from 1/8″ to 1″ for flexible placement. Both sides of the tab can be used as a hook. Dual hooks enable a balanced level placement.

Wing Tab Loop:
Joining the Wing Tab Hooks to each other forms a single loop that can be used to attach the Moth Trap to larger diameter anchors, and can be used to wrap around a surface. Often times the Loop is used to attach to drawer pulls, cords or in some cases the post a bi-fold door. A universal mounting point is to loop the wing tabs through a door hinge for high placement with minimal distraction.

The key to get rid of the pests is quality moth traps and a thorough cleaning. We’ll post many more articles about moth pest control and techniques in the weeks to come.
