'Chinamma' Sasikala Natarajan to be the new AIADMK Party Chief

2016-12-29T10:53:00.005-08:00

Keeping a seat for J Jayalalithaa, who died earlier this month, Tamil Nadu's ruling AIADMK decided in a meeting today to hand over the party's leadership to her closest friend Sasikala Natarajan.

On January 2, the 54-year-old will formally take over as AIADMK general secretary, a post held by Ms Jayalalithaa till she died on December 5. On cue, the solo Jayalalithaa banner outside the party office was replaced by one showing the former Chief Minister presenting flowers to Ms Natarajan. Slogans of "Long live Chinamma (mother's younger sister)" were shouted.

"Like we saw MGR (MG Ramachandran, AIADMK founder) in Jayalalithaa, we see Jayalalithaa in Sasikala," said Tamil Nadu Chief Minister O Panneerselvam, whose place in the party's power structure after Ms Natarajan's elevation has been widely speculated.

Soon after the meeting, Mr Panneerselvam and other party leaders headed to the palatial home in Poes Garden that Ms Jayalalithaa shared with Ms Natarajan, a former video store owner. They later said she had accepted all the decisions taken at the meeting.

'Sasikala has said she will follow in Jayalalithaa's footsteps," said Mr Panneerselvam, who was sworn in as Chief Minister hours after Ms Jayalalithaa's death was declared.

Ms Natarajan's takeover as AIADMK chief was announced by party leaders as a given even though she is not technically qualified; the general secretary has to have completed five years as an active member.

Mr Panneerselvam is the first Chief Minister from AIADMK who will not be the general secretary of the party. It became a tradition as Ms Jayalalithaa held both posts, unchallenged.

Ms Natarajan was kept away from party and government functioning by Ms Jayalalithaa while she was alive, but her considerable influence over key decisions is well-known.

As lakhs paid tribute to their "Amma" after her death, Ms Natarajan emerged as a strong presence by her side, exuding power as top party leaders, including Mr Panneerselvam, retreated to the sidelines.

Sources say Mr Panneerselvam wants to serve out his term and the BJP, which rules at the centre, too has openly said it backs the man elected by the AIADMK's legislators as chief minister.

Veteran Filmmaker and social activist, Ashok Pandit, slams Jammu and Kashmir state government over granting of bail to Masrat Alam

2016-12-29T10:43:00.002-08:00

Describing Jammu and Kashmir High Court's decision to grant bail to Masrat Alam as failure of the prosecution, veteran filmmaker and social activist Ashok Pandit on Wednesday urged the state government to hire best lawyer to send the separatist leader back to jail.

"It is failure of the prosecution. The state missionary has failed to prove a terrorist as terrorist in the courts of law. If such a known terrorist gets out of jail on bail then nothing can be tragic than this," Pandit told ANI.

He further termed the release of Alam as a sad news for the security forces who fight every day and lose their lives.

"I appeal the state government and state missionary to hire best possible legal luminary, the lawyer and see to it that the terrorist goes back to jail otherwise the confidence of common man will go down," he added.

Echoing similar sentiments, Jammu and Kashmir National Panthers Party (JKNPP) leader Harsh Dev Singh alleged that the government has not contested the case with all seriousness.

"The government never wanted to arrest him. It was the media and public because of which he was arrested. This decision is in pursuance of the soft separatism of the government," Singh told ANI.

Singh further said that if elements like Alam are given open space and the government does not take stern action against them then the situation would continue to deteriorate in the valley.

The Jammu and Kashmir High Court earlier in the day directed Mehbooba Mufti-led government to immediately release Alam from preventive custody.

A bench of Justice Muzaffar Hussain Attar quashed Alam's detention after hearing his counsel Mian Abdul Qayoom and the state counsel.

Alam, who has been languishing in jail for the past six years on charges of fomenting trouble and posing a threat to public safety in the Valley, was booked under the stringent Public Safety Act (PSA) following the 2010 violent unrest.

So, I decided to post it here so that it helps others.

The exact error wordings are:
“app could not be downloaded due to error. (error code : 963)“.

The possible reason for this error is:
For some reason, the device is not able to write data to the preferred installation location or to the default storage location which is required to download the app. It may be due to insufficient storage space also.

Possible solutions for this problem are:
Solution 1: Try changing the preferred installation location of your device. The options are:
i) internal memory
ii) external memory (SD card)
iii) let the system decide

Try to change the default drive letter by selecting the radio button against that choice. If you are unsure, then select the (iii)rd option - let the system decide

You can access this selection by following the below link on your device:
Settings -> Storage -> Default Installation Location

Solution 2: Try changing the default storage location from the internal storage to the external storage or vice-versa

Congress spokesperson Al Naseer Zhakaria shown the door after derogatory and sexist remarks about women

2016-12-11T02:24:00.001-08:00

Mr. Al Naseer Zhakaria, the Congress spokesperson, was shown the door after he made derogatory and sexist remarks in the studio of Magicbricks Now television network. He was literally thrown out of the studio after he refused to apologize for the remarks made even after repeated requests from the host Faye D'souza. What infruited the host and the panelists more was that instead of apologizing he was trying to justify his statements.

He was a panelist in the television debate on the rape and murder of a 24 year old physiotherapist from Mumbai on 10th December 2016 where he made the horrendous blunder of passing demeaning remarks about the attire of the wife of the now Maharashtra chief minister, Mr. Devendra Fadnavis. The CMs wife's name is Amruta Fadnavis and Mr. Zhakaria reportedly commented about the short red dress which she had worn in one of the music video appearance which also include the great Indian superstar, Mr. Amitabh Bachchan. The moment he made the statement there was outrage amongst all the panelists present, majority of whom were ladies.

The link of the television debate is given below:

http://www.timesnow.tv /india /video/outrage-over-congress-neta%E2%80%99s-sexist-remark /52837

When asked if Congress party would take action against AL Naseer Zhakaria, the party was non committal. When asked about the incident from the former chief minister of Maharashtra and the now Maharashtra Congress Chief, Mr. Ashok Chavan, he dismissed it saying that it was a on-the-spurt of the moment remarks from Zhakaria and the party does not stand by his statements.

Meanwhile, there is huge public outrage on the statements made by Zhakaria especially by the women who say that how can the safety of women be equated to their attire. This is one more incident of how politicians become so insensitive and speak absolute rubbish on national television without actually thinking on what or about whom are they speaking. It remains to be seen whether action which will be taken against him or will he go scot-free after this incident.

Mumbai Rains - Heavy rains lash Mumbai - City submerged 19-06-15

2015-06-19T01:03:00.000-07:00

In what can be termed as a routine for Mumbai City, heavy rains have again brought normal life to a standstill in Mumbai and Navi Mumbai today on 19th June 2015. What is surprising is that this is the first full fledged one day rainfall in the city of Mumbai and all the arrangements made by the BMC has been exposed.

All the schools in the city remain shut. Some offices have remained open with employees being advised to report to work only if possible. The Govt. has issued alerts to Mumbaikars to venture out of the homes only if absolutely necessary and that too on the roads which are guided by them from time to time. The lifeline of Mumbai - local trains - have been thrown out of gear completely which has literally brought the city to a standstill. Road traffic is reported to be really slow with serpentine line of cars and buses been seen in all streets of Mumbai.

What seems to be worrying is that there is a huge high tide expected around 2:30 pm, which is going to add to the BMC's woes. The city is on high alert with rapid action force being deployed to tackle any untoward incidents. The city's picture looks grim with many trees uprooted which has cause inconvenience to vehicular traffic. Fire brigade services have been pressed into service to clear the fallen trees as soon as possible.

Local trains in the trans-harbour local (Vashi to Panvel & Thane to Panvel), however, are running at a slow pace on a shuttle basis. Trains on Central Railway from Kalyan onwards too are reported to be running; but behind schedule. The main affected areas are mainline Mumbai with many low-lying areas water logged, forcing the railways to shut services. Further decision will be taken after surveying the situation post the high tide at 2:30 pm.

Meanwhile, in the morning, many office goers chose to skip office and stay at home owing to continuous rainfall since last night which actually caused the water logging. But some unfortunate people who have ventured out of their homes are reported to be stuck at various places in the city with no option but to wait till road or rail services start operations. These people are not too happy with the arrangements done by the BMC which has brought them this hardship.

FIFA soup cleared: Shabby dealings of FIFA vice-president Jack Warner 'bribes' uncovered

2015-06-08T06:37:00.001-07:00

A BBC investigation has uncovered exactly what happened to $10m sent from Fifa to accounts controlled by its former vice-president, Jack Warner. The money, sent on behalf of South Africa, was supposed to be used for its diaspora legacy programme in the Caribbean, and is central to the scandal that has engulfed world football.

But in fact most of the money went straight back to Mr Warner and his associates through a series of transfers and money laundering schemes. But documents suggest Mr Warner used the payment for cash withdrawals, personal loans and to launder money. Mr. Warner, who has been indicted by the US FBI for corruption, denies all claims of wrongdoing.

Fifa says it is co-operating with the investigation and South Africa's Football Association has issued a detailed statement denying any wrongdoing. In the three wire transactions - on 4 January, 1 February and 10 March 2008 - funds totalling $10m (£6.5m) from Fifa accounts were received into Concacaf accounts controlled by Jack Warner.

At the time, he was in charge of the body, which governs football in North and Central America and the Caribbean. Jack Warner is one of 14 people charged by US prosecutors over alleged corruption at Fifa.
The US Justice department alleges the 14 accepted bribes and kickbacks estimated at more than $150m (£97m) over a 24-year period. Mr Warner, however, denies all charges of corruption.

Ghana Petrol Station Tragedy - 08.06.15

2015-06-08T03:53:00.001-07:00

Around 150 people have died in a fire at a petrol station in Ghana's capital, Accra, as per latest reports.

The fire on Wednesday night started as people in the city were trying to cope with two days of heavy rain, which has left many homeless and without power.

The flooding hampered rescue efforts and may have led to the fire, as per reports from Accra.

President John Dramani Mahama has announced three days of national mourning to begin on Monday.

It is thought that people were in the petrol station sheltering from the downpours when the fire broke out, our correspondent says. A further 25 people have died in the floods.

President Mahama visited the burnt-out petrol station and described the deaths as "catastrophic" and "almost unprecedented".

He vowed to take tough measures to stop people building on waterways, which appeared to have been a factor in the disaster.

"I think that the time has come for us to remove houses out of water and the public should understand that it is necessary to save everybody else," he said.

Following an emergency meeting of cabinet and security chiefs on how to tackle flooding, the government says it will release £9m ($14m) to help flood victims.

Schools were closed across the capital and children asked to stay at home.

Ross Brawn certain of Michael Schumacher staying another season at Mercedes

2012-07-22T05:10:00.000-07:00

Ross Brawn says Michael will stay back atleast for another season with us

Mercedes team principal Ross Brawn has dropped another hint of Michael Schumacher staying back with the team for at least one more season. Although Brawn maintains that no discussions have started with the seven-times world champion as to whether he will extend his stay with the team beyond this year, the signs are growing Schumacher will put pen to paper on another contract.

Earlier this week, the 43-year-old told Germany's Bild newspaper he is "not yet satisfied" with what he has achieved following his return to Formula One after three years in retirement. Insisting he remains "highly motivated", the feeling of returning to the podium again, as was the case in finishing third recently in the European Grand Prix in Valencia, has stirred his senses.

As far as Brawn is concerned, the team are prepared to give the German as long as he needs to make up his mind, although there is a feeling Schumacher is having fun and so should continue. Brawn said: "We are focused on Michael for as long as it takes, and whatever it takes. Then we will see where we are elsewhere.

"We haven't discussed it (a contract extension), but he enjoys himself, and if he enjoys himself, why not (continue)?" Brawn, who has previously suggested talks are likely to commence before the end of next month's mid-season break, knows he has to sit down with Schumacher sooner rather than later.

Brawn added: "Inevitably you come to a point where you say 'Let's have the discussions' because these things can sometimes take some time. "You have to have the discussion and reach a conclusion in order to plan for the future.

"But there is no deadline or critical point where he or we have said we must have a decision by. It must be the right decision. That is the most important thing. "Knowing Michael as I do, it will be a logical and sensible conclusion, driven by passion because he enjoys what he does."

Ross Brawn downplays the possibility of Michael Schumacher taking a podium finish in a dry German Grand Prix.

Ross Brawn has downplayed the possibility of Michael Schumacher taking a podium finish in a dry German Grand Prix. With the rain hammering down on Saturday afternoon, the seven-time World Champion gave his home fans a reason to cheer when he set the fourth fastest time.

Schumacher, though, was elevated to third when Red Bull's Mark Webber was handed a gearbox penalty. However, the conditions are expected to be very different on Sunday as a dry race is on the cards and Brawn has a few doubts about whether Schumacher can match the frontrunners for dry pace.

"The car wasn't too bad in the dry, but none of us have had much running [in such conditions]," the Mercedes team boss told Autosport. "We did our high fuel running on Saturday morning and in the dry period we had and made a few changes after that which we didn't get too much of an opportunity to try in qualifying, so we will have to see.

"It will again be a race of managing the tyres. We expect it to be much warmer and that can bring a different perspective on things." He added: "We haven't experienced in practice what we will in the race, so trying to anticipate what you need for the race is tricky.

"We have been focusing for some time now on trying to widen the tolerance of the car to bring a better range of balance so that when these conditions change, we don't get caught out. "This will be another test of how we have improved. Everything that we can do in terms of tyre pressures and other admissible changes will be done to try and take care of the extra temperature that we will see in the race."

Free Review of Spice Stellar Mi-425 Dual SIM android Smart Phone

Problems with Spice Stellar Mi-425 Smart Phone, problem with Spice Stellar Mi-425 Android OS, problem with Spice Stellar Mi-425 screen going blank, problem with Spice Stellar Mi-425 charger, problem with Spice Stellar Mi-425 USB driver and Spice Stellar Mi-425 PC suite, GPRS settings for Spice Stellar Mi-425, Wi-fi settings for Spice Stellar Mi-425

Spice has got two more android smart phone lined up with the Spice Stellar Mi-500 Dual SIM android Smart Phone and the Spice Mi-355 android phones in the pipe line. The Spice phones names and models are given below:

The first issue is with the proximity sensor i.e. whenever a call was made or received that screen would go blank and the phone would become unresponsive. Pulling out the battery was the only option to put the screen back on. Sometimes, exposing the phone to bright sun would automatically bring the screen back to life. The second issue is that contacts need to be preceded by the county code (+91) for the caller identification to be enabled, else the contact would show as an unknown number.

One other thing is the threaded message which I really don't like, but it is a feature of Android OS and one really can't help it.

The android market is really hotting up with the likes of Karbonn, Spice, Lava and Fly coming out with economical android smart phones with Dual SIM capabilities which are not that bad when compared with the mighty Apple, Samsung, HTC and Motorola. I feel they are going to eat the market-share of the major brands especially in India where the common people are crazy for value-for-money products. And with positive reviews for all the new low-budget phones the likes of Samsung, HTC, Apple, Nokia and Motorola need to be on their guard. In fact, I foresee the big guns launching cheaper android phone soon to retain their market share. The good days of the big guns seems to be smart fazing out!!!

Watch Ganguly The Movie Trailer which went viral on the internet and wikipedia

2012-05-13T02:54:00.001-07:00

The moment a private health insurance company launched a promotional trailer of Sourav Ganguly's movie on the internet, the video went spiraling up the charts with it receiving a mighty 1,50,000 hits and still counting. The review of the same has also featured on Wikipedia.

Sourav Ganguly, the tiger of Bengal, has signed up as the brand ambassador for the health insurance company and this video is part of their promotional campaign. The actual movie, whether it would see the light of the day, is still unconfirmed.

The trailer uses an image of a roaring tiger in the backdrop even as Sourav mouths lines such as "Waqt ko waapas lana padega" and "Iss liye log mujhe baap nahin dada bolte hain." However, the interesting bit is that this trailer is not for a movie on Sourav but an ad of a health insurance major that he is endorsing.
