It's our birthday! Today marks 5 years of blogging! We hope you like the refresh to the look of the site and new logo... you may see some more changes in the upcoming month! We said we would have something special for you this week, so stay tuned later today - we will announce a special giveaway!

But first... we have to reflect on 5 YEARS! We are thankful for all of you who still visit the site and all of the comments, tweets, facebook comments, shout outs and recognition we have received over the years! Here are a few words from us:

Whitney W:

I remember when we started the blog back in 2008, and back then our focus was all over the place. We covered entertainment news and fashion, but we decided a year later that we needed a main focus to make us stand out. Our fashion posts seemed to be the most popular and we had the most fun with them, so we went full force with the "Celebrity Fashion & Style Trends" tagline. We incorporated more and more new features into our usual celebrity looks, looks for less and trend posts, adding in inspired looks, interviews with some up and coming designers and entrepreneurs, site features, reviews, requested looks, Whit Picks and more! Today we cover all that and more and hope to work at making it bigger and better. I have always been dedicated to this blog, not only making sure I try to write interesting posts but also making sure the design looks fresh.

For me blogging has led to a lot of great things! Because of my love of fashion, I joined a local fashion meetup group called Pattern, which led me to network over the past year with many other like-minded individuals in my community and learn of all the possibilities of things I can do to take my dreams to the next level. One thing I'm really excited about is that I'll actually be writing a story in their local fashion publication, called Pattern Magazine, that will be printed this fall. I also have some other things in the works and plans to collaborate with another local blogger. As for Get Whit It, I just hope to see this blog continue to grow and get more exposure. I love being able to share my experiences of attending local fashion related events and other things such as my weight loss journey with you (while incorporating style tips) as well as continuing to report on our most popular feature, the celebrity looks and trends. Please continue to spread the word about Get Whit It and we still love hearing your feedback and getting requested looks from you! Stick with us on our journey!

Has it really been 5 years? It definitely doesn’t seem that long. Like Whit – I remember starting off as somewhat of a messy gossip blog and transitioning into a clean Fashion Blog. We both have a love for Fashion so rather than it being a tedious task, it was something we both enjoyed doing. Being that we aren’t rich – I think one of our most favorite things to do would be to provide looks for less. I know it’s by far one of my favorite things to do and we know the viewers love being fabulous on a budget.

Over the past couple of months, I’ve unfortunately been extremely busy with my “real job”. LOTS of overtime and what free time I had, I just needed to myself. With the overtime slowly wearing down, I’m looking forward to posting more and bringing more interviews, features, contests, etc. to the readers. Thank you to everyone who has stuck with us for the 5 years... and newbies – continue to ride with us!

Fashion Recap: 2013 Billboard Music Awards

Hope you got a chance to watch the 2013 Billboard Music Awards last night. If not, I'm sure you may have heard a lot of buzz from people commenting on certain moments from the show. Of course, I have to recap the fashion from night, from both their blue carpet before the show and the awards itself. Let's talk about the best (Get Whit It) and the worst (Get Lost)!

Miley Cyrus:

Miley wore a standout Balmain jumpsuit with checkered and cutout details with peep-toe pumps and a red lip. Just in time for Indy 500... she made the checkered pattern work for her.

My vote: Get Whit It

Chris Brown:

Chris kept it pretty lowkey for the pre show in a nice graphic print top with jeans and sneakers. Sometimes less is more and it works.

My vote: Get Whit It

Taylor Swift:

Taylor keeps trying to bring the sexy with her looks. This time she showed a lot of leg in a blue mini dress by Zuhair Murad. I don't know about this one... not really feeling the dress/hair/shoes combo this time on Taylor.

My vote: Get lost

Nicki Minaj:

I'm loving Nicki's toned down shift this year. Tonight she wore a red flowing gown with big curly hair.

My vote: Get Whit It

Selena Gomez:

Selena looked sleek in a white Atelier Versace gown with strategically placed cutouts and a slit. I like the neon pops of color around the neck and armholes.

My vote: Get Whit It

Jennifer Lopez:

Jennifer wore a metallic gold and sheer gown with a plunge neckline. Something about this gold didn't work on her in my opinion and I have seen her look much better, so this wasn't my favorite.

My vote: Get lost

Kelly Rowland:

I always look forward to what Kelly will wear at these award shows. Last night she wore a metallic silver gown with a slit. The detail is nice up close but I'm not in love with the shape this time.

My vote: Get lost

Wiz Khalifa and Amber Rose:

New parents Wiz and Amber came to the show in all black. Wiz kept it casual while Amber wore a loose fitting dress with strappy heels. I think Amber looks nice after having a baby recently.

My vote: Get Whit It

Carly Rae Jepsen:

Carly wore a sheer black metallic dress that I think fell short. Not feeling the sheer panels or the hanging sheer pieces on the sides. I also think the shoes are a bad choice. Perhaps she should "Call her stylist, maybe"?

My vote: Get lost

During the show...

Here is Miguel in all white during his performance when he decided to take that "leap of faith" over his fans (and unsuccessfully landed on one woman's head lol).

Justin Bieber got a little creative during his performance look with a one arm jacket and interesting pants. Am I the only one who is not loving these half baggy (in the top half)/half skinny (in the bottom half) type of pants for men?

He later switched to this all leather look (perforated leather top and leather pants) to accept an award.

Pitbull performed in his usual suit, tie and sunglasses... and Christina Aguilera looked great in a black mini dress.

Jennifer Lopez was festive in a red hot look. Looked like she was wearing poor Elmo on her arms, but I thought her performance was amazing. She really knows how to entertain.

Nicki Minaj and Lil Wayne performed together for an almost too hot for tv performance. Instead of animal print pants, Weezy wore pants with text printed on them and Nicki wore a cropped top and shredded leggings.

Prince, in all his greatness, closed the show in a mint green look with a fringe jacket and fro. Yes it's different.. but it's Prince.

Earlier this week Rihanna was spotted in a cute spring look in the streets of NYC. I loved it so much, that I thought it would be a great candidate for a look for less. She wore a BALMAIN Green multicolor Printed Silk Blouse with a BALMAIN Mint green pleated Leather Skirt and nude pumps.

Weight Loss Inspiration: Phase 2 - Smart Shopping Tips

I hope you enjoyed my first blog post on the beginning stages of my weight loss journey. Time for phase 2!

So you have lost over 15 pounds and you are ready to buy more than just a few basics, plus you realize that with the new pounds you have lost, so many things fit and look better on you. You are feeling good and ready to have a little fun shopping!

Well my rule number 1, if you are going to introduce some new things into your closet, get rid of some things as well. It's spring time, so go thru your closet and try on things for a little spring cleaning. Sell the things that don't fit to a thrift shop or use Poshmark (a great app that let's you shop other people's closets and sell things for your own and make cash). Then you will have some extra cash to go shopping for the new things you need. I just sold my first item, some Noir rings that I didn't wear anymore. You can join with my code for a $5 credit using HGWLN. For the things you can't get rid of, give them away to Goodwill.

If you have lost over 15 pounds, it may be time for some new bra shopping! At the moment I have lost 15 pounds, and I noticed that there was a significant change. I remeasured myself using an online guide and found out I am actually now 2 full cups smaller! That was a big surprise! The bad thing about that is all the cute bras I have that I no longer can fit! You don't want to lose steam or hit a plateau with your weight loss, so work harder. Mix it up with your workouts. Try new things. In the first phase I mostly stuck to the elliptical and weight training with a little aerobic workouts; this time around I have incorporated more treadmill, walking outside and a variety of targeted aerobic workouts (Jillian Michaels be putting me to WORK haha). Try mixing it up and add in an extra 30 minutes. Here are some items to get you inspired:

Now the best part of the deal, treat yourself to some shopping! Still be mindful of how much you spend if you aren't at your goal because you don't want to put down too much cash on one item. Fashion Recap: Celebs Attend the 2013 Met Gala

All the most fashionable stars were in NYC last night to make a statement on the red carpet at the 2013 Costume Institute Benefit at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A few weeks ago while I was in NYC, I actually got a chance to visit the famous museum on 5th Avenue. For the Met Gala, they cover the steps with red carpet which makes a great backdrop for photos of the fab gowns with dramatic trains. The night's theme was PUNK: Chaos to Couture, so many of the looks took inspiration from it.

Let's recap some of the standout looks from the night:

Beyonce brought the drama in a punk inspired Tisci gown with matching thigh-high boots, grommet belt and elbow-length gloves.

Kanye West and Kim Kardashian made a splash on the red carpet, with Kim in a floral gown designed by Riccardo Tisci.

Jennifer Lopez didn't exactly go with the punk theme, but she looked fabulous anyway in an animal print gown.

Anne Hathaway wore a daring sheer black gown and new blonde hair.

Eve looked amazing in a black lace and leather gown.

I saw a lot of cutouts on the red carpet:

Nicki Minaj and Alicia Keys played peek-a-boo with their abs.

Solange, Rita Ora and Jessica Alba also played with cutouts.

Some embraced the Punk: Chaos to Couture theme more than others:

Madonna definitely had people talking with this get-up.

Miley Cyrus wore a mesh gown and spiked hair for a true punk & couture mix-up.

Katy Perry's embellished dress with crown was fit for a punk queen.

Taylor Swift showed a darker side in this dark J. Mendel gown.

Christina Ricci brought the punk in a plaid gown.

Miss Sarah Jessica Parker wore a dramatic headpiece with her gown.

Get WHIT it or Get LOST? Rihanna's Brooklyn Nets Look

Over the weekend, Rihanna sat court side at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn to watch the Brooklyn Nets vs Chicago Bulls game. Rihanna wore cut off cuffed denim shorts with the Givenchy Nappa Leather Top which features Long back panels. Check it out:

The shirt has a hefty price of $2570 - No way would I EVER spend that kind of money on a top. With her pricey piece, she wore gladiator sandals and carried a fold over clutch.

Whit Picks: Miami Vacation Picks + Necessities

OMG! Can you guys believe it’s May already? It seriously feels like time is flying by this year! Which... in a way is good but… I’d like the summer months to move kind of slow since that’s my favorite kind of weather! I’ve been MIA for a while… busy with work and just LIFE in general but I’m planning to head to Miami for vacation! I thought I’d give you all an inside look of some of my vacation picks and what I feel are necessities for almost any vacation.

This trip will be my 3rd visit (pictures above from previous trips). I went with some friends and this time I’m going with Friends and Family. For me – Miami is the next best thing to the Caribbean. You don’t get the island exclusion but you still have the beautiful clear water beaches. Here in VA, our beaches are gross! I leave in a little less than 2 weeks so I’m starting to prepare now.

My personal preference on vacation is comfort. (Okay – not just during vacation but all the time LOL) I recently stopped by Love Culture and Forever 21 to find some inexpensive casual yet cute pieces. I grabbed some tops and a pair of flats (seen above). The tops ranged in price from $10 to $16 while the flats were only $22. In addition to those things, I’ve bought some other things here and there like an open back tee from Victoria Secret’s Pink collection which is super comfy and will be great for the beach. Also grabbed burgundy cut offs from American Eagle. I've linked the things that I could find online at the end of this post.

For the Miami weather – dresses, skirts, shorts, tanks, and shades are perfect picks. And of course swimsuits! Check out some of my picks (that I would love to buy… but don’t need).

I also wanted to give you all an inside look at some beauty items that I take on vacation. First would be my facial products. I try to stick with only Neutrogena. I’ve tried other brands in the past and they tend to make my face break out or dry. Let me know what you guys use and how you like it. I also HAVE to take my Clarisonic Mia facial brush. For those that don’t have one, I definitely recommend purchasing it. It can be a pretty penny but its well worth the money in the long run. You can purchase one from our sponsor HERE.

Hair products and tools are probably the most important for me. With the Miami heat and humidity I have to have a flat iron. Thanks to Hana and Misikko for sending us the Hana Titanium 1.5” flat iron to try out! (Review coming soon) I also use Abba's blow drying lotion and Chi's shine spray to help tame the frizz and protect the hair. Since I’ll be spending most of the time by the pool or beach, I’m looking for some good recommendations for natural curly hair. If you all have suggestions of amazing products please comment below because I normally just throw my hair up in a messy bun.

One last thing is the new Vaseline Spray on Lotion. Not necessarily a vacation necessity but it’s great for those who are in a hurry. I actually like it because it doesn’t give you that icky feeling on your skin (icky to me… some like it).

Whit Picks: NYC Edition

I (Whit W) went to NYC last week with family for a short vacation. I always love visiting that city and hadn't been since 2011 (we usually went there every Thanksgiving for the past couple of years, but since I just moved in my new apartment last year, decided to stay home to celebrate the holiday). I was excited to be back in NYC and do some of the things I love most: walk around the streets, shop and eat great food! As many times as I have been there (I have lost count), you would think I have done everything there is to do, but the truth is there is always something new and exciting to do so I made sure to plan to visit some new places this time around, as well as some old favorites!

I'll tell you about my NYC adventures and some of the great shopping I did over the course of 4 days! Great finds at Forever 21, Topshop, the brand new Necessary Clothing store on Canal Street, Century 21, Macy's and more!

To start things off, this time we stayed right in the heart of Times Square, a great location right in the middle of everything. Our hotel was right across the street from the Times Square Forever 21, which in my opinion is one of the best ones. It's 4 floors of clothing and if you aren't watching the clock, you can easily spend a few hours in here (I definitely did, which is why I had to make a second trip on another day)! Since I am still on my weight loss journey, I am all about finding cute and affordable clothing, so going crazy in F21 made me happy. I found a bunch of cute tops (some to wear now, some for when it warms up), some inexpensive jeans and a cutout dress that will be cute in the summer.

While in NYC, I probably ate more food than I have in a long time, but I know I made up for it with all the walking! We made our way to Macy's in Herald Square and found out they are in the middle of remodeling. You can still find the original wooden escalators in the store, which is nice. I guess a lot can change in a year, because as I made my way to the shoe floor I was in heaven as I found nothing but gorgeous shoes:

On Friday, as we made our way to Chinatown for some food, I wanted to stop by the new Necessary Clothing store that had just opened up on Canal Street. This is the first fashion retailer to open on Canal Street, lending to Mayor Bloomberg's continued efforts to clean up and commercialize the counterfeit strip.

Then I headed up Broadway into Soho to stop at Topshop, another favorite.

On Saturday, I mostly did some sightseeing (Central Park, Guggenheim Museum, M&M's World...) and more eating but I did go downtown near the 911 memorial and stopped in Century 21. I mostly watched fam pick up a bunch of items, but I did find some cute hoop earrings.

If you haven't visited NYC yet, definitely try to go, if only for a few days. There are so many things to do and if you love to shop, this is the place for you. My favorite areas to shop are in Soho, Herald Square, on 5th avenue and in Times Square. I had a great time!

Cassie x Forever 21 "Forever LA" Campaign: Shop the Collection!

Cassie teamed up with Forever 21 for their Forever LA Campaign. Modeling is definitely one of her fortes, I remember getting dELiA*s catalogs years ago with her modeling clothes in them. Forever 21 is still one of my favorite stores, so this collection is worth checking out. On the site, they separated it into east side vs west side, so you get to choose from 2 separate styles or pick and choose from both.

Most memorable F21 shopping trip… "I had the best Forever 21 shopping experience when I was in New York and me and my best friends went crazy. It’s a best friend store! I think we bought a lot of the same clothes: t-shirts and print leggings."

Cassie on having to take a dip in 30 degree water for the shoot:

Behind the Shoot… "I knew I was going to get partially in the water, but I didn’t know how much. I was actually submerged in it! What made me feel really good though was that everybody got in the water. Everybody was soaking wet head to toe. I felt like we all came together."

Fashion is… "About confidence and not letting your clothes wear you – you wear your clothes. Just belonging in what you wear. It has to be your thing."

Style influences… "The music industry has definitely influenced my style. I’ve taken more chances. Be it my hair or how baggy I want to wear my pants, I’m inspired by so many other artists and people. So when I see something I like, I like to try it in my own way."

Beyonce as Mrs. Carter in H&M Campaign Video

H&M released the new campaign video for their Summer Collection, featuring Beyonce as Mrs. Carter in H&M. Take a look:

Shot in the Bahamas, the video also gives us a taste of some hot new music from Bey and a look at what to expect from the collection. What stood out was the fringe, tie-dye print, and beachy shades of blue. The collection launches on May 2nd, just in time for summer and vacation season.

Taylor Swift's Colorful Casual Style

Singer Taylor Swift seems to be getting a lot of attention lately… mostly about her unsuccessful relationships and the songs that relate to them but she stepped out ready for spring in a colorful casual style.

Inspired Look: Justin Timberlake - The 20/20 Experience

With the release of Justin Timberlake's new album, The 20/20 Experience, everyone is buzzing about the new music. I've been listening to it on repeat since last week when he made the album available to stream free on iTunes. Definitely an amazing album from top to bottom. My favorites are "Strawberry Bubblegum," "Tunnel Vision," "Blue Ocean Floor" (so relaxing, I can put that on repeat), "Don't Hold The Wall," "Let the Groove Get In" and "Spaceship Coupe." I guess if I name any more I'll list the entire album, haha, but it really is that good! It was just the R&B I was needing, and the good news is that Justin will be giving us 10 more new tracks later this year.

Glee star Naya Rivera was spotted last week stopping at Crumbs Cupcake Bakery in LA to pickup some cupcakes. Anyone remember when Naya played on Family Matters as Richie's cute girlfriend? That was a long time ago! She looked fab in a sleeveless buttoned blouse with leather leggings, black pointy pumps, red lipstick, cat eye sunglasses and a color block satchel bag. I thought this would be a great simple look to achieve for less.

Get Inspired: Wardrobe Tips During Weight Loss

Anyone started a new weight loss plan since the start of the year? Have you been successful losing a little weight? Feels good doesn't it? Reward yourself with a few new items for your wardrobe - it always seems to make you feel empowered and give you a boost of confidence. I know that feeling when your clothes start to fit a little differently (a little looser) and it's a good thing, but it may be time to start finding a few key pieces to get you thru as you continue your weight loss journey! If you have a bigger goal in mind, don't bother buying a total wardrobe or anything too expensive that you will grow out of, focus on items that will get you thru your weight loss period!

My friend Adrienne and I are on a quest to achieve a #BeyonceBody (she wants her butt, I just want her legs)! I have been making some significant progress with the help of the app MyFitnessPal - highly recommended - it helps you choose a daily calorie goal based on how much you want to lose a week and then keep a daily diary to log in your meals and exercises to help track your progress. I think by seeing what I am actually eating and how many calories are in each meal really makes the difference.

It's been 2 months now and I have lost over 8 pounds and a few inches all around! At first I was surprised (I lost a lot the first month and wasn't used to losing that much with all my bad luck in the past). I honestly just follow the daily calorie goal they give me (I still eat the foods I want because I'm not a fan of dieting, I just practice moderation) and exercise often (at least 4 times a week). Here is a picture to see my current progress:

The first thing I noticed, after losing a few pounds, is that I needed some new belts!

Tip #1: Buy some new belts. That is something I just had to do. Some of my go-to everyday belts were starting to get too big and I was running out of notches in the belt (didn't want to make any new ones)! Go to places like Target, JC Penney or Forever 21 to find inexpensive ones to fit your shrinking waistline! Try these options:

Tip #2: Try on all your jeans and decide if you need to purchase 1 or 2 new pairs. Try on all your current/old jeans! Ever hid a pair because they started to fit too tight? Well it may be time to try those on again because they may fit perfectly now, haha. Some may even fit better now. When they start to get too loose though, it's time to let them go. If you do want to buy at least one pair of new jeans, don't splurge on an expensive pair that will eventually be too loose on you as you continue losing weight. I would wait to splurge when you reach your goal weight (it will feel better spending that hard earned money on a pair that you know will look great on a body you worked hard on)! For now just find a cute pair at an inexpensive price that you won't feel too bad about spending money on. I found some skinny jeans at Forever 21 under $25. Also look at these:

Tip #3: Workout in style! You've lost weight, so you want to continue the trend, right? Get a little motivated at the gym in vibrant workout clothing to boost your mood. I'm lucky enough to have a fitness center right here at my apartment complex, so I just walk to the gym daily and can dress pretty comfortably, but I do like to occasionally put a little effort into my workout ensembles. I usually just wear a t-shirt with some Victoria's Secret PINK yoga pants or sweat pants (cropped or long) and black and pink New Balance sneakers. Tip #4: Save money by getting things tailored. I learned that you can save a lot by just getting something tailored as opposed to buying a new item. Take a pair of jeans and have them taken in a bit - it should only cost you a few dollars which is better than buying a new pair of jeans, especially when you are in the transitional period.

Indy Fashion Recap: Pattern Magazine Launch & Midwest Fashion Week

Last week I attended a few local events here in Indianapolis. I always like to support local fashion when I can, and one way I did this was by joining meetup group Pattern last year. Pattern brings together creative individuals interested in fashion. This has led me to meet many talented people in the world of blogging, photography, styling, marketing, modeling, design and other creative outlets. Creator of the group, Polina Osherov along with an amazing team of contributors, put together Pattern Paper, a twice-yearly publication. You can view previous issues here and see how fab the magazine is!

At the spring issue launch party last Wednesday at the Indiana Design Center, I came out to celebrate the release of the new issue and finally get a chance to take a peek through the pages.

Midwest Fashion Week:

Last year in the fall, I went to a few shows but this year I was only able to make it to one show, so I chose the finale on Friday. Here is what I wore - I decided to add a pop of color with my jeans:

I saw all female designers showcase women's clothing. I found a highlight in just about each showcase.

The host mentioned that several of Joni's designs made the best dressed list at Nelly's Black & White Charity Ball in 2011 and 2012. Most of her designs played with a print and sheer fabrics. I also saw a lot of peplum.

The Chicago designer showcased a lot of form-fitting pieces (I saw shiny and draped material) in blues, pinks and golds. (Sorry for the horrible pictures guys).

After a short intermission (and helping myself to a complimentary manicure, haha) I took a seat for the final 2 designers.

I saw Lanae's work back in the fall. This time her line featured mostly gowns, and even a wedding gown. One that stood out to me was a cute belted dress that created a lot of volume at the hips. The models kept the energy high and came out pumping their fists to an LMFAO song:

Finally was Parel Anej, who showed her Indian-influenced looks. There was a lot of attention to detail and use of color and prints in her collection. The one stand-out for me was a neutral gown with a high slit and multicolored belt and arm straps:

The show ended smoothly and on a good note. Overall, I think Midwest Fashion Week shows will get bigger and better over time and it's great to see the excitement and types of fashion events in Indianapolis.

3 Favorite Trends for Spring 2013

I'm so excited for the spring to come in and warm things up! Just over the weekend here in Indianapolis, we got a taste of the warmer weather as it got up in the 60's. It felt nice and refreshing and inspired me to take a walk in my neighborhood park. It made me think of shopping for new threads for the warmer weather as well! I'm ready to start incorporating some of the hot spring trends that were showcased on the runways back during fashion week in the fall. I also read about a few in the latest issue of InStyle magazine. Here are 3 of my favorites:

The first trend I'm excited about is wearing coral, which has always been a favorite of mine and looks great on my skin. It's the perfect mix of red and orange and definitely heats things up. I would try the color in fun textures like silk, leather and lace. I love how the color brightens up the day and definitely stands out. Try it in a more fiery red for a bolder look. The always classic floral print is almost a given during the spring season, but it's always a winner as well. It's perfect for that feminine and romantic touch to any look, but this time around the prints are a bit more tough and edgy. I'm always a fan of prints, so this was an easy choice trend for me. This final favorite trend is more for the daring. Push the envelope with a little sheerness or cutout effects. A great example was Kelly Rowland's Grammy dress - it had material in all the right areas, and the sheer panels made it a sexy standout on the red carpet for many. The key to this trend is choosing a body part to reveal (or partially reveal) to create an illusion. Make sure you find a garment that fits correctly and don't overdo it with the cutout's and sheer effects to avoid taking the look from chic and sexy to trashy. Less is always more! Birthday Picks: Chicago Edition

So I (Whit W) celebrated my birthday in Chicago over the weekend and had a fun-filled couple of days! I did a little shopping, celebrating and tried a few new things. Here's a little recap:

I stayed at theWit Hotel (very fittingly), a very chic hotel located in the Loop of downtown Chicago. I loved the decor in the place and the upscale Roof lounge. I would definitely stay there again. The suite I stayed in was very stylish and roomy with great views of Marina City. I had dinner with family at David Burke's Primehouse, so I had to go out in style! It was the perfect time for me to wear my BCBGeneration Long Sleeve Surplus dress that I blogged about in a previous Whit Picks post. I added a skinny belt, printed tights and slingback patent pumps to finish the look:

By the way... the food was GREAT at David Burke's, so I would definitely recommend trying the restaurant (especially the bacon sticks and truffle fries)!

I finished out the night with some more celebrating at the hotel. The following day I did a little shopping in the city on State Street and Magnificent Mile. I went to places like H&M, DSW, Steve Madden and Topshop. I got a few things and added a few to my most wanted list:

Basic black blazer from H&M: I needed a new fitted one in black since I have a few in other colors of the rainbow.

Coach sneakers: I like being able to wear casual sneakers on any given day. A great chic option to Converse are cute Coach sneakers, and I was able to find a cute pair at DSW... in addition to using a 20% off coupon I had and a birthday coupon. I love freebies!

Birthday Makeup from Sephora: Speaking of freebies, I love this time of year when I get free stuff haha! This year's free makeup for Sephora Beauty Insiders is Benefit They're Real Mascara (which I love) and Benefit Watt's Up Soft Focus Highlighter for Face. I love a little makeup from Sephora so I was thrilled to pick up my freebies!

Studded Candies sneakers from Kohl's: Who doesn't love studs?

Topshop Suspender Tights: I have loved these for a while, but never got a chance to get a pair. I love wearing printed tights with skirts when it's cold, so I thought these were super cute! Plus, at only $16, the price wasn't bad. Topshop also sells the House of Holland tights.

Topshop Geo Studded Holdall: I just purchased a bag recently, so I didn't think I needed to buy this just yet, but I love the studs and color! Also love the tan version.

Steve Madden Store: I saw so many shoes I want in here! Heels, flats, and so many cute sandals for the spring and summer. I will be back. Trying to be good for now.

Extras: I got some cute new earrings and the new Twilight DVD (Breaking Dawn Part 2) - the final and best one in my opinion. I also had to tell myself I didn't need another dress - at least right now (a very cute Topshop lurex midi dress)! Overall, I had a great birthday weekend and even got to try out some new things that I enjoyed so much that I will definitely be trying again, like ice skating:

... and also got a little daring a tried a pole dance class at Flirty Girl Fitness - it actually is a great workout and extremely fun (my stomach muscles were probably sore from all the laughing). I would definitely recommend trying it or any of their other fun fitness classes for women.

Oscars 2013 Fashion Recap: Red Carpet Trends & Best Dressed Picks

Did you watch the Academy Awards last night? It was undoubtedly one of the biggest nights in Hollywood and definitely the most talked about in terms of red carpet coverage. Oscar night is all about the stars looking their best, and there are always bound to be hits and misses. As always with every event, I spotted quite a few trends on the red carpet and was wowed by a few looks. Let's start off with my picks for best dressed:

Best Dressed: Kelly Rowland

I posted many of the looks on facebook last night to get your immediate feedback, and many of you seemed to agree that the beautiful Kelly Rowland was a winner. Kelly is having a great month! She performed with her girls at the Super Bowl and wowed on the Grammy's red carpet, then last night showed up in this two-toned number:

Kelly was wearing a dress by Donna Karan Atelier. So why do I love it? She is giving us sexy with edge - I love the structure of the dress and the two-tone color. The thigh-high slit and dramatic train finish off the look. Very nice Kelly!

Best Dressed: Charlize Theron

My other top favorite was Charlize Theron, who recently chopped off her hair. Loving the pixie cut, it looks great on her! And the dress...

Gorgeous. She wore a Dior Haute Couture gown - simple yet elegant. The two piece aspect of it reminds me of Anne Hathaway's Chanel dress from the Golden Globes, but I like the shape of Charlize's dress more with the more flowy skirt and v-cut peplum top.

Oscar Red Carpet Trends

There are bound to be great minds that think alike at big events like this, so let's examine a few of the trends spotted on the red carpet.

Trend: Metallic

One of the biggest trends I saw was the abundance of metallic gowns. Ladies were dripping in silver and gold on the red carpet, and giving the coveted trophy of the night a run for its money. Halle Berry and Stacy Keibler (George Clooney's date) both chose beaded looks. Halle's dress was definitely a big step up from her choice for the Golden Globes. It wasn't my favorite look from her, but it looked great on tv.

Jessica Chastain, another look I loved, went for old Hollywood glam in a metallic gold Armani Privé gown while Catherine Zeta Jones also went for the gold.

Naomi Watts and Nicole Kidman both chose to shine in sequined dresses. I love the color and cutout on Naomi's dress.

Trend: Got the Blues

A few ladies chose blue gowns for the big event. Jennifer Hudson looked nice in a navy longsleeve gown and Reese Witherspoon chose a cobalt gown.

Can't forget pint sized Oscar nominee Quvenzhane Wallis, also in blue.

Trend: Red Hot

A common trend for the red carpet is to match the red carpet itself, and a few ladies chose red hot gowns for the night. The most talked about were Kerry Washington and Jennifer Aniston. Scandal star Kerry's dress had some beaded detail at the top and a few of you were fans of the dress. Jennifer Aniston went big and bold with her color, but I wish she would have done something different with the hair.

Trend: Soft Tones

Some ladies stuck to lighter, softer colors for spring. Oscar winner Anne Hathaway wore this pale pink gown which she described as "business in the front and party in the back."

Zoe Saldana and Amanda Seyfried also chose soft toned dresses.

Trend: Dark Beauties

To contrast with the soft tones on the red carpet, we saw a lot of dark gowns. Sandra Bullock and Salma Hayek wore this trend.

Mom-to-be Jenna Dewan and husband Channing Tatum kept it classy in all black, as well as first time Oscar winner Adele.

Trend: Go Big or Go Home

Lastly, a couple of ladies wanted to make a big statement by adding some major volume. Jennifer Lawrence won her first Oscar last night for Best Actress and also found out why all that volume isn't necessarily good for climbing stairs. As she made her way to the stage to accept her award, she tripped up the stairs! I'm sure her big moment made up for it though, and she looked lovely.

Amy Adams also chose to add a lot of volume with layers of ruffled tulle.

Evenlyn Lozada debuts VIDA LUXE

Reality TV star Evelyn Lozada has always been [fairly] fashionable. She's now releasing her own clothing line. She debuted her collection yesterday in London. We all know that Evelyn loves an amazing maxi dress and from what we see in the sketches, she'll try to have some of her own. The line is [or will be?] called VIDA LUXE.
