La-Brasiliana Keratin treatment with collagen (The Brasilian Blow Dry) is a revolutionary process that transforms your hair. The treatment is keratin based. Keratin is the primary protein of the hair, skin and nails. This natural substance gives hair the ability to return to its original healthy, shiny, smooth state while collagen improves the elasticity of the hair.

Unlike other products available on the market, such as creme relaxers or the Japanese straightening system, La-Brasiliana Keratin treatment with Collagen replenishes the condition of the hair without damage or change to the molecular structure. The application process takes anywhere from 1.5 to 4 hours depending on the length and thickness of the hair. Hooka Senior Stylist wins at L'Oreal Colour Trophy

Jon Wraight from Hooka on Wood Street has been chosen as one of Britains seven most talented and exciting young hairdressers from across the country. Jon has won a highly acclaimed Young Colourist Award and will now be part of the exciting NEW 2011 L’Oreal Professional Colour Academy, created and designed to support and nurture the colour icons of the future.

On Monday 4th July over 100 of the hairdressing industries most high profile and successful figures gathered at the Grosvenor House Hotel, Park Lane, London for the prestigious 56th annual awards to witness Jon being presented with his award by the ever cool Radio One Presenter Sara Cox .

Each year over over 1200 photographic entries pour into the L’Oreal competition with before and after transformation images for the Young Colourist Category. Only five entries per seven regions were chosen to make it through to the live finals in Manchester and London. Jon was one of the 35 finalists to put their raw technical skills to the test live during two main challenges of T Section Highlights and Creative Colour, each task included a strict judging criteria including equipment usage, precision placement, colour choices and the overall look amongst others.

What is Microdermabrasion?

Microdermabrasion is a system of intense exfoliation and resurfacing using ultra fine crystals that rejuvenate the skin. The crystals work as a gentle abrasive on the skin to remove dead skin cells layer by layer.

The vacuum action of the machine stimulates the circulation and promotes increased blood flow to the area. The production of collagen and elastin is stimulated, which results in a firmer, more youthful looking skin.

What are the benefits of using Microdermabrasion over other methods of treatment?

This is the second year the Face Off competition has been held, this year saw the number of entries quadruple following the success of the first year. In the 2010 competition Dion Padan made it through to the finals so when we found out that again a stylist from Hooka had made it through to the next stage of Face Off 2011 we were made up!

Danielle is now invited to a private winners party which is due to be held in London in February 2011.

We are 4!

We held Hooka's 4th Birthday party last month. Celeb guests attended, including WAG Chantelle Tagoe, Dancing on Ice & Hollyoaks star Kieron Richardson, Hollyoaks Bronagh Waugh, Big Brother's Brian Belo, Sam Pepper and JJ Bird.

The party was held to celebrate our fourth year in business, as well as some prestigious awards that
our talented team have been bestowed. Hooka has gone from strength to strength in the past few years,
Dion was awarded "Nations Favourite Hairdresser" by Head & Shoulders and a few weeks ago Ami Lou Cassidy picked up the Hair Magazines "Salon Stylist Award" sponsored by GHD. Also the salon made the finals for Salon of The Year at the Hairdressers Journal British Hairdressing Business Awards.

2010 looks to be another great year for Hooka. Owned by Dion Padan (himself winner of The Nations Favourite Hairdresser in 2009).... the salon is no stranger to winning national awards. In September we were announced as one of the finalists out of thousands of entries in the Salon of the Year category at the British Hairdressing Business Awards final held at Lancaster Gate Hotel in London.

Just one week later Hooka stylist Ami Lou Cassidy, aged just 25, was named as the winnner of Salon Stylist of the Year. A pretigious nationwide competition held by HAIR magazine.

Earlier in the year we submitted a dossier giving five reasons why we felt Ami was truely special as a stylist along with a selection of client testimonials. She was then short listed as a finalist, the next round involved a visit to the salon by a secret client (a reader from the magazine) who had a cut and finish by Ami, this obviously went well as she was listed as one of six finalists from across the UK.

British Hairdressing Business Awards 2010

Back in June we submitted our entry for the British Hairdressing Business Awards Salon of the year. It's the first time Hooka has entered the awards, we spent a few weeks preparing our entry which included examples of why we thought we deserved to win the title of Salon of The Year.
Within our entry we showed examples of our marketing, our staff training, our customer care and basically shouted out about what we as a team have achieved so far........

So how excited were we to find out that out of all the salons throughout the country we had made it through the the final six in our category.

The awards took place on Monday 20th September 2010 at The Lancaster London Hotel.

Below is some advice about the treatment:

Prior to treatment

To get the best from your tan exfoliate and moisturise your skin prior to having the treatment. This will give a smoother surface for the therapist to apply the tan. Pay particular attention to the lower half of your legs, knees, ankles, top of feet, toes, elbows and knuckles.

Please shower just before visiting the salon and ensure there are no lotions or deodorants left on your skin. If you are shaving, please ensure you do this at least 8 hours before salon application. A much better result will be achieved and the tan will last longer.

What to wear

Wear loose baggy clothing, so the tan does not rub off by abrasive clothing. The tan solution washes out of most clothing very easily, but may stain light nylon materials.

Aftercare

For best results leave the tan on the skin overnight - if possible try to leave 8 hours before having your post tan shower. To maximise how long your tan will last gently exfoliate, using the St.Tropez Body Polisher (available at the salon) every 2-3 days as the tan starts to fade and use the St.Tropez Body Moisturiser, as it will help to prolong the life of the tan.

We thought we would take some time out to introduce you to some of the Hooka Crew (as we like to call them) and also showcase some of the work they have completed since working at Hooka, First up is Ami Lou Cassidy.

Ami Lou has worked at Hooka now since Sept 08, starting as a Stylist she has recently been promoted to Senior Stylist, Ami Lou has excelled in all areas of her career since joining us, she has a great eye for creative colouring having attended a number of Colour Courses provided by L'oreal.

The models in the photoshoots below all had their hair styled by Ami Lou during photoshoots carried out earlier this year:
