My Return to the Blog

I know I have not blogged in almost two months, but I am back. I moved to law school over a week ago, and still am trying to get situated with furniture, supplies, and the general feeling of helplessness, which occurs when one moves out of state. Anyway, as I am putting my life back together, an important aspect, this blog, will be more frequently updated; my plan is to cover different aspects and experiences of my first year in law school. Telling my readers about my experiences will give a better understanding of what I am doing. Another purpose, and no less important, is providing me an avenue to share my thoughts, feelings, and reflections as I dive into my 1L year. Finally, I will continue updating the blog on issues, such as Iran's continuing intransigence towards the EU/US demands of ceasing Iran's nuclear program, and national news that in the realm of regulation. I look forward to contributing once again to the blogosphere, and I hope you stick around for wherever that takes us.

US Intercepts Iranian Nuclear Material

Interesting development in the standoff between the US and Iran. The US announced that it had intercepted 11 shipments of nuclear material to Iran over the past year. Now, the important question is, how will this new development play out during negotiations between the Iranians and the Euro-3; Britain, France, and Germany. Will this new information cause Iran to capitulate and halt their nuclear programme? I doubt it, and I am not sure it will make a difference. If anything, it does show ( Gasp) that the Iranians want to use their nuclear program for more then civilian purposes. Then again, we already knew that, didn't we?

French Reject EU Constitution

In a display that has stunned the French and European political elite, the French people have rejected a treaty vote for the EU's Constitution. Given the personal capital spent by President Chirac, this decision can only be seen as a marked political embarrassment for the French President.

LIVERPOOL WINS THE CHAMPIONS LEAGUE!!

what an amazing game! I was able to catch the entire game including the overtime and penalty phases. During the first half, it seemed that AC Milan had all the answers. Their ball movement and hustle confused and outclassed the Liverpool defense. After the first goal, and the next two, it seemed that nothing could stop Milan from embarrassing the Reds in the second half.

But something changed after halftime. The Reds came out desperate, and showed a renewed sence of prupose and aggression. Led by Stephen Gerrard, the captain, the Reds came out firing. In a matter of minutes they had narrowed a 3 goal deficit to one with two fantastic goals. Then amazingly, they were awarded a penalty and converted, drawing them level.

After they tied the game up, Milan stiffened their defence and tried to mount counter-attacks. Despite a few close calls, Liverpool managed to reach the end of time level. In the first and second overtime periods, Milan again and a few golden opportunities, and Shevchenko missed a point-blank shot in the second extra period.

After the two clubs drew level after 120 minutes, they moved to a penalty shootout which saw a active Dudek, the Liverpool keeper, bounce around on the goal-line and stop multiple Milan penalties. In the end, he saved the game with one final block, propeled Liverpool to the most improbably amazing performance in recent Champions League History...What an amazing performance!!! Just brilliant!!!!

Iran announced it will restart uranium enrichment, despite the concerns of the US and Europe.

ABC news reports that Iran has already converted 37 tons of uranium into gas, a crucial step towards enrichment for weapons-grade materials.

In response, the US anounces "consequences" if Iran goes forward with enrichment.

An Iranian professor blames the US news media on biased coverage towards Iran.

Hans Blix urges Israel and Iran to stop enrichment-thus drawing no moral distinction between a terrorist-sponsoring theocratic state and a secular, democratic one.

LIVERPOOL THROUGH TO FINAL!!!

Liverpool has reached the Champion's League Final!!! What a gutsy performance against Chelsea!!! I really cannot believe the Reds have gotten this far. It seemed almost insurmountable to overcome Juventus, and now Chelsea. WOW!!! I cannot wait for the final, which will probably be against AC Milan. Again, the Reds will be the underdogs, but afte such an improbable run to the final, can anyone not take them seriously?

Liverpool's tie against Chelsea is a fantastic result, and as the series moves to Anfield, the prospects of them going through is quite high. Despite being the underdogs, Liverpool's performance was bad for Chelsea, and must be considered tantamount to a loss for the London FC.

I am back.

To all my faithful readers, I have not forgotten you; actually, circumstances have caused me to focus on other things besides my blog. First, I about two weeks ago I lost my job and am currently reviewing options about future employment. Since I am going to law school this fall, I cannot seem to find a temporary position that pays close to my previous compensation. So, most of my time over the past two weeks has been spent on finding something to tide me over till August. I will let you know what I find.

Also had the fortunate distinction to get viruses on my computer that caused havoc with my Internet connection and cookies. That problem is now fixed, but for a while, it seemed that I would never be able to blog again. Understandably, it the problem ended with a very simple solution, so simple that I will not even mention it! Regardless, I think all systems are now operational, and blogging will continue in a 'normal fashion.'

Blair Stepping Down

Tony Blair said that he would step down as leader of the Labour Party after the next general election. Whether this will help Labour win over the Tories is another question. Regardless, what I can't decide is whether Blair is tired of politics, or the Labour Party is tired of Blair. I suspect it's a little of both.

One of the more interesting occurrences at the funeral for the Pope was the interplay between two political foes. It was reported here that the President of Iran and the President of Isreal engaged in dialogue, albeit brief. In addition, the same article mentions contact between Assad of Syria and the Israeli President.

Some might call the meetings trite, and simply the behavior of politicians that know that spotlight is near. While this idea has merit, I believe the Middle East takes great notice of symbolism, and the actions between the Iranians, Syrians, and Israelis had great meaning, regardless their banal appearance.

My idealistic hope could easily turn out to be a dream, but it could also be the begining of a Middle Eastern detante. I suppose only time will tell.

Liverpool Wins First Leg

The Reds beat a surprisingly flaccid Juventus at home last night. The first half was played at a quickened pace, and Juventus looked slow, disorganized, and unprepared for Liverpool's attack. Now the series moves to Turin, and the Reds hold a one point advantage on the aggregate. I am hopefully optimistic, but this series is far from over.

Not sure if I would ever do this, but at least I'd wait at the correct theatre! Despite my occasional pangs of geekness, I cannot recall ever waiting in a line for multiple days. However, I probably should admit that I waited in line outside a theatre for Jurassic Park.

The Pope Has Died

The Pope has died. Even though I am not Catholic, I still greatly respected him for his commitment to opposing Communism last century. His loss will be difficult for many people; he is the only Pope many -and especially those my age- have known. While the Church will elect a new Pontiff, there was something very special about John Paul II. I will miss him.

The Captain's thoughts on the Schiavo case reflect my own.

"...I have argued repeatedly for Congress, the Florida legislature, and the two Bush brothers to do all they can do to save Terri's life. As I have expressed here before, I find the forced death by dehydration of a disabled, non-terminal patient at the insistence of an estranged spouse with no support except for the hearsay of a couple of offhand comments heard by the husband and his relatives abhorrent. It smacks of euthanasia and sets a terrible precedent, apart from the inhumanity of forcing Terri's family to watch her die when they've repeatedly requested to be allowed to care for her. It's sadistic, if not to Terri, then to those who love her.

But we have to draw a line here, and that line is the law..."
