BATON ROUGE, La. (WAFB) - Many Americans are still waiting for their tax refunds because the IRS is holding 29 million tax returns for manual processing.

Typically, the IRS sends most tax refunds within three weeks of taxpayers filing their returns. The agency says there is a backlog of unprocessed 2019 paper tax returns because the IRS closed its offices during the pandemic.

What can you do in the meantime?

Wait. Unfortunately, it seems like your only option is waiting - which is tough for struggling individuals and families to hear after a year with a dip in finances.
It appears that calling the IRS may not be of much help. CBS News reports calls to the IRS’ accounts management lines, the primary phone contact for taxpayers, are up 300% this filing season but IRS employees are answering only about 7% of all such calls.
You can try to track your refund by using the “Where’s My Refund tool” but that will only tell you if your return is being processed. It may not tell you if the IRS needs any additional information to help process your refund.

Gov. Gavin Newsom to face recall election as Republican-led effort hits signature goal

Propelled by growing voter frustration over California’s response to the COVID-19 pandemic, a Republican-led drive to remove Gov. Gavin Newsom from office collected enough voter signatures to qualify for the ballot, state officials reported Monday, triggering for only the second time in state history a rapid-fire campaign to decide whether to oust a sitting governor.

Recall backers submitted more than 1,495,709 verified voter signatures — equal to 12% of all ballots cast in the last gubernatorial election — meeting the minimum threshold to force a special recall election, according to a tally released by Secretary of State Shirley Weber. Barring intervention by the courts, Newsom will face a statewide vote of confidence by year’s end.

“We knew we gathered enough signatures, and now it’s time to turn it over to the voters,” said Dave Gilliard, one of the strategists leading the effort to oust Newsom. “We’re very confident that they’re going to want to change direction in California and remove Gavin Newsom and go with someone else.”

Newsom’s advisors expressed confidence that the governor will defeat the attempt to remove him from office and criticized the recall effort as the work of far-right supporters of former President Trump.

“This election will be about two different visions for California,” said Juan Rodriguez, a longtime political advisor to Newsom. “The Republican recall — backed by partisan, pro-Trump and far-right — threatens our values as Californians and seeks to undo the important progress we’ve made under Gov. Newsom: fighting COVID, supporting families who are struggling, protecting our environment, common-sense gun safety laws.”

Though recent opinion polls showed that only 40% of California voters support recalling Newsom, an indication that the effort might fail, the success of the recall campaign in gathering enough valid signatures for a special election delivers a blow to Newsom, one of the nation’s most prominent and politically ambitious Democrats, who raised his national profile as a liberal foil to Trump.

In all, Newsom’s critics gathered 1,626,042 valid voter signatures on recall petitions, according to the report issued Monday, which contains information collected from elections officials in California’s 58 counties as of April 19. Some signatures remain unexamined. The final report will be issued by Friday.

Before the recall petition can be certified by Weber, voters who signed the petitions will be given time to withdraw their signatures, and state officials will crunch the numbers on the cost to conduct the election, steps that could take up to three months to complete. Only then can Weber issue her official certification, triggering action by Lt. Gov. Eleni Kounalakis to call an election within 60 to 80 days.

Voters will decide whether Newsom is recalled and, if he is removed from office, who should replace him. Newsom is barred from being listed among the candidates who can be considered if the recall passes.

Two and a half years ago, Newsom won the governor’s office by the largest margin in modern history, capping the telegenic Democrat’s steady rise to the pinnacle of California politics that began in 1996, when San Francisco Mayor Willie Brown appointed him to the city’s Parking and Traffic Commission.

The son of an appellate court judge with deep ties to San Francisco’s most affluent residents, Newsom ascended quickly to a seat on the city’s Board of Supervisors, two terms as San Francisco mayor and, after abandoning a fledgling run for governor in 2010, eight years as California’s lieutenant governor.

Enveloped in an air of inevitability, Newsom dominated the 2018 governor’s race by trouncing a field of Democratic rivals that included former Los Angeles Mayor Antonio Villaraigosa, former state Treasurer John Chiang and former state schools chief Delaine Eastin, as well as a little-known Republican challenger, businessman John Cox. Newsom’s campaign stoked whispers and persistent speculation of a future White House run.

But Newsom’s star dimmed this summer as criticism of his response to the pandemic intensified, and he now finds himself fighting for survival.

The recall vote opens up the possibility that a Republican could be elected to replace Newsom, a scenario that took place in 2003. That year, California voters — soured by rolling power outages, budget cuts and a car tax hike — recalled Democratic Gov. Gray Davis from office and elected Hollywood action star Arnold Schwarzenegger, the last Republican to serve as the state’s chief executive.

The spectacle of the 2003 recall election fascinated people across the country, intrigued by California’s reputation as a far-out haven for sun-baked dreamers, celebrities and Hollywood wannabes — and political absurdity. More than 130 candidates hoping to replace Davis crammed the ballot, among them Hustler magazine founder Larry Flynt, former Major League Baseball commissioner Peter Ueberroth, Huffington Post co-founder Arianna Huffington and “Diff’rent Strokes” star Gary Coleman.

Californians already trying to survive the disorienting realities of the COVID-19 pandemic may face a similar political carnival in 2021. Local officials from across California believe the cost of conducting the recall election could run as high as $400 million.

Democratic leaders have publicly vowed to support Newsom and, along with the governor’s advisors, have described the recall effort as the handiwork of ambitious Republican politicians and pro-Trump, anti-mask, anti-vaccine extremists.

The effort began last spring, spearheaded by Orrin Heatlie, a retired sheriff’s sergeant from Yolo County. It is the sixth attempt to recall Newsom since he took office in January 2019; the previous five, including two others by Heatlie, fizzled with little support and even less notice.

The recall efforts were fueled in large part by the festering animosity California’s conservative minority holds against Newsom and his progressive agenda, a virulence highly concentrated among supporters of Trump. The petition that placed Newsom’s recall on the ballot focused on well-worn GOP grievances in the deep blue state, blaming Newsom for California’s high taxes and homelessness crisis, and criticizing him for protecting immigrants who enter the county illegally and for halting executions.

Conspicuously absent from the petition is criticism of Newsom’s response to the pandemic, which was in its infancy when recall proponents launched the effort.

But the governor’s policies to combat COVID-19 provided the blast of oxygen necessary to bring the recall to life.

Shortly after the onset of the pandemic, Newsom enjoyed soaring job approval ratings following his initial response, including imposing the nation’s first statewide stay-at-home order in mid-March.

However, his high marks began to plummet, as did those of other governors across the nation. Californians grew frustrated with government-mandated restrictions to stem the spread of the virus, actions that devastated businesses, put millions out of work and forced schoolchildren into distance learning programs.

Newsom’s public image took a major hit in November, when he attended a lobbyist’s birthday party at the upscale French Laundry restaurant in Napa Valley after pleading with Californians to stay home and avoid multifamily gatherings. Supporters of the Republican-led recall effort seized on the misstep, accusing the wealthy governor of hypocrisy and of enjoying the everyday freedoms and luxuries that were barred for many in the state.

Newsom’s political fortunes are tied, at least in part, to California’s ability to rebound from the pandemic by the time of the recall election. If children are back on campuses and people are widely vaccinated, Democratic and independent voters may view their governor more favorably at the polls.

Newsom earlier this month announced a target date for that return to normalcy: June 15. The governor said he intends to lift business restrictions and fully reopen the state economy, so long as vaccine supply remains sufficient and hospitalization rates are stable.

Barring the emergence of a more dangerous coronavirus variant that resists vaccines, a shortage in vaccine supply or some other major failure, the chance of hitting that summer reopening date seem high as more Californians become inoculated, health officials say.

State officials in February estimated that a large swath of Californians — as many as 38% — had antibodies either from catching the virus or from vaccines. The Newsom administration has drastically expanded vaccine eligibility since then, opening access April 15 to all residents age 16 and over.

More than 26 million vaccine doses have been administered in California, and more than a quarter of the population is fully vaccinated.

Still, Newsom’s job approval rating among California voters has suffered, according to two independent political polls released in February. The surveys found that roughly half of voters gave Newsom good marks, down from 64% earlier in the year.

In a Public Policy Institute of California poll released in March, 56% of voters said they opposed the recall, and 40% supported it; the remainder were undecided. The percentage of those who favored ousting Newsom was slightly higher than Californians’ support for Trump in the November election, when he received 34% of the vote.

That hasn’t deterred Republicans from lining up to replace Newsom.

Former San Diego Mayor Kevin Faulconer earlier this year announced that he would challenge Newsom, either in a recall campaign or when Newsom is up for reelection in 2022. Cox, who was defeated by Newsom in the 2018 general election, expressed similar plans. Former Northern California Rep. Doug Ose, a Republican who left office in 2005, is also in the running, as is reality television star and Olympic gold-medalist Caitlyn Jenner.

Two familiar faces who were candidates in the 2003 recall election have also joined the race: former adult film actress Mary Carey and L.A. billboard icon Angelyne.

Others caught up in the swirl of rumors and speculation about potential candidates include Richard Grenell, who served as ambassador to Germany and acting director of national intelligence in the Trump administration.

One pivotal question that remains unclear is whether a Democrat will jump into the race, either in support of ousting Newsom or hoping to serve as a safety valve to block a Republican from being elected if Newsom is recalled.

We are very successful when we investigate. sometimes we find very strange events going on, and have found that many of the places we investigate are more active than expected. Sometimes we are able to debunk the activity that is heard or seen. More times then not, we have seen, heard and felt the true nature of a real presence.

There are many people in the world that just don't believe in ghosts. I used to be one of them until I actually had an experience. Hoooo, folks, they are real and if you're a skeptic, and you see one standing next to you for the first time it may startle you, some scream, some close their eyes and shake their heads or do a double take. I have experienced quite a few now and I just talk to them, ask them their name, how they died, where there from and if they could do something for me to prove their existence. You might be surprised at the reality of the responses.

If you are experiencing what you think is something paranormal, and you would like it to be investigated, call us. As an owner of this Paranormal Investigation Company and Paranormal Investigator its my duty and job to find the answers to the questions being asked about the strange things the team or anyone else has seen or heard, answers to the unexplained.

My team and I did 3 investigations at this small lake in the Mt Hood National Forest named Little Crater Lake and found some very interesting facts about this little lake. Sure if you look on line and type in haunted little crater lake you'll find a few things about this lake like how some have seen kids swimming in the lake and some have heard strange screaming happening at the lakes campgrounds and sightings of a cat that would disappear when they walked up to pet the cat. Well for each investigation we conducted there we saw, heard and witnessed something strange at the lake.

The first investigation we did we investigated the lake for 5 hours and heard some things that really shouldn't be heard by the human ear, meaning we heard some of the scariest screams and sounds that I can bet you 90% of the worlds population has ever heard or ever will hear. Lots to hear and record that night.

The second time we did a 6 hour investigation and took some photos that when I show them to others they can't believe what they are seeing so much to the point that at the end of the showing they no longer see what they were just looking at just minute before, It is so strange to them that they block out the real thing (if you know what I mean) its like what they are seeing is so unbelievable that it not what they were really seeing or looking at. We took photos of this cat that we saw walking on the main trail, it was a normal white fluffy house cat (so we thought) I personally went to go pet this cat and when I got o I would say 2 feet from it, it vanished, Yes thats what I said vanished, right in front of my eyes, I rubbed my eyes and had to take a second look at that point I was telling myself that that just did not happen. I backed up about 10 feet and the cat reappeared so I slowly walked toward the cat once again and when getting 2-3 feet from it, it once again disappeared in front of me. as I was getting up from the kneeling position (from trying to pet the cat) I took out my camera and started walking backwards thinking the cat would reappear like it did before, well low and behold it did so I took a shot with my camera and it came out a man figure walking away form us (the team). In the photo that I took you will notice a demonic face at the lower leg area of this figure, this was the area the cat was when I took the photo. During the same investigation but a couple of hours later we heard what we could only describe as a screaming animal being tortured. across the lake from were we were standing, in one of many pictures that we took we caught a Bigfoot looking creature on the other side of the lake, but this wasn't Bigfoot (it was see-through) it was standing in one spot for about 20-30 seconds then disappeared.

That same night we were doing an EVP session and asked what was ever there to show its self for us. One of my Investigators asked if there was anyone with us at that time could it please touch his shoulder to prove its presents. He focused on saying the word please for some reason saying it before and after asking to show its self to us. Seconds later we all saw this super bright ball of light (or energy) come out of the woods and touch the team member on his right shoulder. A second member asked if this was real then it would be able to touch her hair if asked, so she asked if it could touch her hair and like it was our slave it flew over to her and flew through her hair, at this time I had taken out my camera and I asked if it could touch our voice recorder, less than a second later it flew over the recorder and touched the recorder. This is the same time I took a picture at the recorder and caught this ball of light doing what we were asking of it. It didn't like the flash of the camera apparently, a second later it took off into the same wooded area it came out of. Before this time I have never been able to see a real orb with my naked eye, but this ball of energy was so bright and strong we all (the whole team) saw this it with our naked eyes.

The third night we investigated this lake we decided to do an overnight investigation. We started the investigation at around 630 pm walking into this open area where there was a very large tree that was broke and had fallen, about 1/2 mile from the entrance to the lake itself. We were so successful with our previous EVP sessions we decided to start with talking to what ever was there. before we had even started the EVP we all heard foot steps rustling around near us, asking one of my team members to start taking shots in the area of the sounds he took 4 pictures a second apart from each other and captured 3 spirits on the third photo. The first picture he took we saw nothing in the photo and the same with the second one, but the third one we caught the three spirits like they were posing for us and wanted to be seen, the fourth one taken just 1 second later showed all three not there anymore including a branch that was hang down from the broken tree that one of these spirits was lingering off of. Another spirit was of a bold looking little man type figure just walking around and the third spirit and the most strange is a figure of a 12 -13 year old child that had walk right in front of a large tree stump and clearly wanted us to notice him, clearly we were able to see he was wearing jeans and a white shirt and this boy really wanted to be noticed and we did as clear as day after the pictures were taken. later that night at about 4am we decided to rest at the campsite, so we found an empty site that had a bench and a fire pit so we put our stuff away and sat for a while, I went to gather up some old tree branches and wood so we could start a small fire in the pit. We started a fire and all sat around it talking about what we had seen that night, about 20 minutes into our fire we heard very sharp screeching screaming coming from within the camp fire, (within the flames) so one of my investigators took out her camera an took a picture in the flames and what came out on photo was this fire woman figure on fire fighting with an alien monster looking thing in the flames of this camp fire we were having both screaming like they were being tortured fire demon's (hard to explain)

I have been spending months and months researching why and how these ghosts could possibly be there and the whole team is unable to come up with anything about these things that we saw and heard. We have pictures and EVP of all three investigations and have pictures of all the spirits and demon looking things that we just mentioned. I have been doing this for 10 years and have never come across a place so haunted in my life. and have never come across the most friendly spirits. Ghost Hunters show: you don't even come close. Little Crater Lake is truly the most haunted place I have ever seen or investigated in my life. and Ghost P.A.R.T.I. is the only Investigation company that has permission to legally investigate this area by the National Forest Service. and will again and again.

How would you like to see a real orb? a strong orb, an orb that does what you ask of it. We set this orb on a 3 task journey, first we asked for if anything is out here with us can it please show itself in any way shape or form (Via an EVP session) we asked if there was anything out there can you please touch my partners shoulders? 2-4 seconds later it did just that. Then we asked if it was possable that it make somthing move in front of the team (EVP session) with 4 investigators there for that session we all witnessed this big ball of energy looking thing float towards our feet and touch another investigators foot. By this time we could see this thing with plain site no tools or equipment. This was also the time when the SP camera was pulled out and a shot was taken at this time (we saw nothing on this pic) we then asked for it to touch the recorder, we all saw this orb float towards the recorder and (we took another pic as it was foating to the recorder) and it touches the recorder and before I could ask it to do something else it floated away real fast (I only wanted it to do three things in the first place, remember) and it was like it knew that or it was late for a hot date, well I don't know, you tell me... For all that read this little diddy... !! SPIRITS AND GHOSTS ARE REAL!!

This photo was taken on an investigation at a small lake in the Mt Hood National Forest, this is Little Crater Lake. This is a scary place very haunted. Would you believe I caught 3 spirits in this one pic. Can you see them. You will have to zoom in on this picture to see them, some hints. There is a boy figure in front of a large stump, this stump is accually only 2 1/2 feet high! There is a small tree branch hanging down just to the left of the tree stump I spoke about previously, this branch is hanging form the broken tree. Look closer to the top of the branch. Do you see the face looking to the left. The other one is in the background and very hard to see. This is me at the far, far left of the picture. I'm 6'4 feet tall.
