For the past two weeks I have been up to nothing, but Skyrim and Burn Notice (Hooray for netflix!) That coupled with my inability to get into a game has made for a severe lack of content. I did however make some headway on my display board. So here is a kind of run down of what I have done....

Remeber this picture? Well this is how I started. I removed all the models from the board and left the bases. After gluing sand to them I left them essentially in the same position and primed them on the board. This left some circles in the locations where the bases would go. Using those as a guideline I set to work with my drill. Using a 2 1/2'' holesaw bit I drilled out the areas where the primer had highlighted.

I decided to keep the plugs left over so I could flock the whole board and keep them to fill in holes in the event that I change up units. Like my snow bases the whole board will have a winter theme. I am currently considering if and how much terrain I want to add to the project. My first thought is to put a tree on each plug so that they are easier to take out. Here is the project now with and without my army filling it out. The first pic is with the plugs in.

Here is with the plugs out. I had two of these boards. I cannot remember what they were, but they came from Lowe's for about $6 each. After drilling the holes in the first board I caked on some liquid nail and pressed the two boards together using staples for extra holding power. You can see how the primer worked to mark the holes I needed to drill.

This shot has my bases in. Still no progress with them, but the idea will be to have the whole board covered in a snowy winter scene. Not much room to add terrain though. I sort of wanted to have some Eldar ruins or a couple of real terrain pieces.

Finally you have the army in place. Between setting it up and taking the pic I took a lap around the apartment while carrying it and the models barely moved, even on the flying bases. So mission accomplished! Now I just need to make it look pretty.

So here's my second vlog. In this video I show off my 1500pt Eldar army that I plan to take to tournaments. You get a good shot of how I paint up my units. As I state in the video I am still trying to come up with an idea on how to designate my two jetbike squads and I also need to decide what to do with the Dark Eldar jetbikes that I am using. I am open to feedback and strongly encourage everyone to comment below.

I had a really good time. The event was co-hosted by Mi40k and Fresh Coast 40k at BC Comix in Fenton, MI. 50,000+ points of Eldar, Dark Eldar, Tau, Imperial Guard, Space Wolves, Salamanders, Grey Knights, and Mantis Warriors hit the field exchanging every kind of fire imaginable. We did a Xenos and Traitors vs. Imperial Forces game with the Imperial Guard player fleshing out our Xenos team as traitors. It gave us some much needed super-heavy support as the enemy team was composed of two Titans and a Thunderhawk as well as a combined Space Marine army that in all outnumbered us by 3000 points.

As I said, it was a lot of fun. Dice began rolling at I believe 10:30am and we were packing things up by 6:00pm. Met a lot of cool 40k players while I was there and I wouldn't hesitate to do it again. Although next time I do not think I will bring as much Eldar. I honestly have no idea how Ork players can handle it.

I did not add the score though I meant to. It was 20 to 1 in favor of the Space Marine team, however I think that for me at least, I was more interested in blowing things up.

As always, Thanks for watching. If you liked the video let me know. If you did not like it still let me know. I am always looking to improve. As an example, first thing on my to-do list is a more interesting opening to my videos. I am thinking something like a slide show of painted models or maybe some clips of earlier battle reports.

Between elaborate 6th edition hoaxes(?) and painting I have also found time to put together a list for the Big Game. I will be up at BC Comix in Fenton Michigan with over 10,000pts of Eldar. The list is essentially everything I own loaded up with all the goodies. The only problem is that I lack any super-heavy support or titans. Since I am bringing the rest of the Craftworld though it should be interesting. The list comes in four waves.

Wave 1
The first is a wave of grav tanks contains 4 Fire Prisms, 4 Falcons, and 6 Wave Serpents. Three squads of Dire Avengers and three Howling Banshee Squads are riding inside. Mixed in is a jetbike council with an Autarch, they ride inside the tank wall and drop off the delivery method of Part 2.

Wave 2
The Second Part of my force is an almost complete Ulthwe Strike Force which is only missing support batteries and maxed out Jetbike, War Walker, and Vyper choices. I have used this before and it is really interesting trying to get all of those models out of the wraithgate. Hopefully my opponents lack pie plates.

Wave 3
My Deepstrikers. I have a squad of Warp Spiders and Two Swooping Hawk Squads coming in with some Autarch support. One Autarch has wings the other has a warp jump generator. Swooping Hawks will be dropping grenades and if any vehicles present themselves I will likely try for Haywire Assaults.

Wave 4
The slow stuff. This is where my Wraithlords, Wraithguard, and other elements that are either on foot or otherwise too slow to be with the main force. I would like to just castle them up on an objective in my deployment zone if possible, but we will have to see what happens. Not really looking to do much with this element really.

So that is pretty much how I am going to roll out. My list comes in at over 10000 points and is packing a considerable amount of firepower. The downside is that the rosters are in and my opponents are bringing about 4000 more points than our side and they also have some titan support so this may very well be a one sided match. With any luck I will get some good video from the game though, it is looking a lot smaller than I thought so it should be pretty easy to catch all the action.
Something I never really intended to start making, this one just kind of came together. The main topic of the video are the snow bases I have been working on the past couple of days, but I also lay down some of the basic ideas and strategies for the Big Game on the 21st. There is also some smatterings of the fluff surrounding the Ghostwind Corsairs. Enjoy!
I rendered in HD to see if that helped with the quality, but I did not notice much of a difference.
For those looking for the rest of my review of IA 11: Doom of Mymeara you can find a generalized review of the plot and other contents over at Mi40k.com. It is a bit of a cop-out I know, but I still wrote it and it is a good site so check it out. I got together with Mr. Nerd Watch and we tested out his 1850 tournament list of Grey Knights along with the Eldar Corsairs army list in IA: 11.
I will be splitting the parts into different posts to isolate any comments you may have, both in critique of the video and/or anything related to game play. Hope its an enjoyable report and if you like it please subscribe. Part 3 will be edited and up later tonight with Parts 4 and possibly 5 coming not too long after. We chose to do a banter style batrep akin to what they do over at miniwargaming.com. But that is enough chat, here is part 2:

With the Corsair List out of the way, let us take a look at the new Craftworld Eldar units. Overall I think Forgeworld did an amazing job here, both in rules and model design. They most certainly put some credence back in, "Their arrogance is only match by their firepower." With the things as they are I was starting to think the Eldar were not very arrogant at all. The major drawback is finding people that will let you use Imperial Armour though and tournaments that allow it are equally rare. That being said, how about we dive right in:

Shadow Spectres - Easily the best armed fast attack choice compared to other Eldar options, though not quite as mobile. This new unit of Aspect Warriors makes use of man-portable prism cannons called appropriately enough, Prism Rifles. They suffer from the usual range issues of Eldar weaponry, but pack a punch with a statline of 18" range, S6 AP3 Heavy 1 for a focused shot and 18" range, S4 AP5 Heavy 1, Blast for the diffused shot. The Heavy weapon aspect is a non-issue for these guys as they have Jetpacks and are therefore relentless. The Exarch has two options instead of the prism rifle. The Prism Blaster is a 18" S7 AP2 Heavy 2 variant of the standard prism rifle and the Haywire Launcher is a 36" range S3 AP3 Heavy 1 weapon that hits vehicles as a haywire grenade. The Haywire launcher is impressive for its range and ability to damage vehicles, but it is easily outclassed by the units main special ability, Ghostlight. Ghostlight like Fire Prism tanks themselves allows for the combination of the Prism beam, this lets the squad improve their capabilities by letting you do three main things. First, it allows the unit to draw line of sight from a single model and use the highest available Ballistic skill. Second, for every two models firing you get to add +6" to the range giving you a maximum range of 36". Lastly the strength of the weapon is increased by +1 for every two firing models. This is added to the best gun so if everyone has prism rifles it is 6+1 per two models, but if you give the exarch the prism blaster then the base strength is 7. Predictably you cannot use Ghostlight with the haywire launcher. Regardless of what is doing the firing the ghostlight has a base AP of 2 and is a Heavy 1, Blast weapon. The drawback though is that the unit only fires a single shot, though the tactical situations that determine which shot you fire seems pretty obvious, fly up pop the transport with ghostlight, then hit the squad with separate shots. As with all other Exarchs this Shadow Spectre Exarch can take to power options, first is Cynosure that lets you reroll to hit with the Ghostlight. Second is Withdraw, which gives the unit hit and run. As for defense the unit comes with Spectre holo-fields giving them a 5+ invuln save which increases to 4+ beyond 12". The unit also has acute senses which is of course something. In all, the unit is most impressive.

Irriltyh, Shadaw of Twilight - This is the Shadow Spectre Phoenix Lord and part of the focus on the narrative in the book. He is every bit a Phoenix lord and comes kitted out with the same abilities as a Shadow Spectre Exarch with better wargear. His weapon is the Spear of Starlight which is a 24" Range, S7, AP2 Heavy 3 weapon that can be used with Ghostlight. Unlike most Phoenix Lords, Irriltyh stands tall with Asurman because he also has an invulnerable save thanks to his Holo-suit. It works just like the holo-suits of his disciples. Unlike other Phoenix lords however he lacks that extra power that defines the tactics of his aspect like Stealth for Karandras and the Striking Scorpions or Furious Charge for Jain Zar and her Banshees.

Bel-Annath - This guy is a special character Farseer specific to the Doom of Mymeara campaign. I will detail him later. He has some cool tricks and modifies the force organizational chart so that is kind of nice, but as a named character his abilities are locked in place. He is described as a more warlike Farseer and it really shows in his abilities. Enough about him though, on to:

Warp Hunter - This tank is unchanged from the Corsair variant so refer to my last post for its info. It is a Heavy Support Choice for Craftworld Eldar as well.

Wraithseer - The mon'keigh space marines think they can get away with a Dreadnaught psyker. Now we have the Wraithseer. A bit pricey, but is a functioning HQ choice. The downside is you cannot have him alone as the HQ you will have to bring somebody else which probably should be a Farseer, but I find some appeal in taking the Avatar and really running an Elfzilla list (But then I remembered Dark Eldar so nevermind) The Wraithseer is every bit a Wraithlord and so much more. His WS is increased to 5 he has 4 wounds and can function as a spiritseer himself. Not just a spiritseer either, but a Greater Spiritseer! This not only allows him to guide other wraith constructs within 12" letting them ignore the Wraithsight rule, but it also makes the cover saves of units targeted by the Wraithseer or wraith-like units within 12" one point worse. The Wraithseer comes equipped with a Wraithspear which is essentially a wraithsword that gives the attacks +1 on the vehicle damage chart. The unit also has a wraithshield granting him a 5+ invulnerable save. To round out his equipment he can be given a shoulder mounted Bright Lance, Scatter Laser, Eldar Missile Launcher, Star Cannon, or D-Cannon. Although after the D-Cannon the unit gets really really expensive. He lacks the option for shuriken catapults or flamers however..... so sad.... not really. He comes standard with three psychic powers and the ability to use one per turn. These powers are used at the start of the Eldar turn and do not require line of sight. First, is foreboding which has a 18" range and forces the target unit to take a pinning test with -2 to their leadership. Next, is enliven, which grants a single Wraithlord or Wraithguard unit within 12" fleet for the turn. Finally, you have Deliverance which grants a Wraithlord or Wraithguard unit within 6" (Wraithseer included) Feel no Pain until the beginning of the Eldar player turn. I really like this guy, but he will get pretty expensive in the long run. Also the model looks pretty cool.

Wasp Assault Walker Squadron - The only difference between this version and the corsair version is the points cost which makes them cheaper for non-corsair armies. Also it is a Fast Attack choice which may be the reason for the discount in price.

Hornet Squadron - The same as those used by the Corsair Eldar, they are also a fast attack choice.

Lynx - As a rule I am unimpressed by Eldar superheavy tanks. Big gun mounted on a really big falcon chasis wow exciting. The Lynx however changes my opinion for almost the model alone. It has a cool alien look to it even while it is still a big gun attached to a now not so Falcon chasis. It is BS4 and armoured like a falcon. It has 2 structure points and comes with a Pulsar and a shuriken cannon. The Pulsar may be exchanged for a sonic lance at no points cost and the shuriken cannon can be upgraded to a scatter laser, starcannon, or brightlance. The model may also take star engines and/or vectored engines. This superheavy comes equipped with Eldar Titan Holofields and can become a flyer until the start of the next turn at the cost of being able to shoot. This ability will get the tank across the battlefield easily allowing it to continue it's destruction-fest. Lastly it has a Targeting Matrix Override which increases its save to 3+ against Crew Shaken and Weapon Destroyed results for the primary weapon.

Scorpion and Cobra - These appear to be the same as they have been in previous books, however the points cost may be different.

Vampire Raider and Vampire Hunter - Like the scorpion and the cobra these models appear to just have updated points costs.

Revenant Titan - Completely unchanged from its appearance in the Apocalypse book. Still flipping sweet, but still flipping expensive.

Phantom Titan - It is big, it is mean, and it costs more points than your standard 40k army. It is WS3 BS4 S10 and boasts the heaviest Eldar armour evar! Front and Sides have armour 13!! rear is armour 11. It is I3 and has 3 attacks base. This monstrosity has 8 structure points and is armed to the teeth. It comes standard with the Phantom titan missile launcher (a heavy 4 version of the standard Eldar missile launcher firing krak missiles) A Phantom Titan AA Launcher in an Anti-Aircraft mount which fires S7 AP3 missiles and is Heavy 4. Finally it has a Phantom Titan Star Cannon (a Heavy 4 version of the standard star cannon) Those however are only the Carapace weapons. The arms may be loaded up with two of the following: A Phantom Pulsar which has a 120" Range is Str D and AP1. It is Heavy 4, hits with a 5" blast and is a primary weapon. It can also have a Phantom D-Cannon with a 72" range Str D AP 2 and is Ordnance 1 10" Blast, Barrage, and a primary weapon which has a special rule allowing it to by-pass void shields and power fields. The final option is a Titan close Combat Weapon. You can only take one but it gives the model +3 Attacks and also includes Twin-linked Phantom Starcannons. The model has enhanced holo-fields granting the usual 4+ save if it is standing still. The save increases to 3+ when it moves. In addition all close combat attacks against the phantom titan only hit on rolls of 6. It is Agile like the revenant granting it extra move at the expense of shooting. It has the Towering Monstrosity rule which basically limits the range of the carapace weapons to a minimum of 12". Lastly, it has Spirit Guides which allows the Titan to ignore Driver Stunned or Crew Shaken results on a 3+

This wraps up the rest of the Eldar units. Next I will likely cover the campaign and overall storyline in the book. I am in the middle of wrapping the narrative up right now so I will be sure to give that a review.
Part the First: Eldar Corsair's Army List

It finally arrived! I am pretty stoked. Overall it is a pretty nice book as all Imperial Armour books tend to be. Lots of detail, lengthy bits of fluff, and amazing artwork. So much is in this book that I thought I would break the review down into multiple pieces. Part 1 will deal with the Corsairs army list.

The list is pretty interesting. You have a number of options for play style, but I feel like all of them lend to a quick in and out raid style of play. As a whole the army draws significantly from the Craftworld Codex, but a few wargear options and entries use the Dark Eldar Codex. In addition there are a number of selections of their own. My only issue with the list is a number of errors in the writing which makes it unclear as to how things truly operate. I'll highlight those as I review each entry.

HQ
Corsair Prince - The corsair prince is essentially an autarch in stats and wargear selection. He can take almost any weapon listed in the book. He comes standard with a close combat weapon, and a shuriken pistol, as well as, plasma grenades, but all of that may be upgraded. He can wield anything from a Harlequin's Kiss to a Power Weapon, to the new Void Sabre, which is a scorpion chainsword that has the rending rule. He comes with a 4+ armour save, but this can be modified with either a shimmershield, force shield, or Shadowfield. Each functions as they do in their relevant codex. Finally he can take haywire grenades, melta bombs, the balelight which is like a single use sunrifle with a 6" range and rending, and a Corsair Jetpack. His special rules are also pretty interesting. Sky Raiders, which gives the option of giving the deepstrike special rule to any three units that normally do not have it. This opens up many options as there are a number of different things you can select. It also states that any dedicated transports taken with the unit may also deepstrike so long as unit and transport are together. Immediately I get the sense that you can easily make an entirely deepstriking army with this power. His second ability is Void Strike where in he calls down the thunder from his starship orbiting the planet. It is a single use ability that can take one of three forms: Pulse Strike a S9 AP2 Ordnance 1, 5" blast, Lance shot; Sonic Torpedo a S4 AP5 Ordnance 1, D6+6" Blast, Pinning; or Darkfire Skyburst which causes nightfight conditions until the start of the next player turn. My issue is that no range is listed, though I'm assuming it is unlimited based on fluff and also if it is modified by the firers ballistic skill, which as written seems like a yes, but based on fluff I would say no. Finally he has the option of taking a retinue.

Corsair Blade Sworn Retinue - Think Eldar away team and you are not far off here. The Blade sworn are the best of the best. The Prince's most trusted friends and advisers. As a squad of 2 to 5 they have the stats of an aspect warrior save for 2 Attacks base and a leadership of 8. They come equipped like the Prince, but just like him have a number of options including Lasblasters, Shuriken Catapults, Fusion Pistols, and Power Weapons. They may also take haywire grenades, melta bombs, and Corsairs Jetpacks which must be taken if the Prince has one and may not be taken if he doesn't. I am looking forward to loading them up with fusion pistols and getting some one shots on Paladins next week. Interestingly throughout the book the points cost for the jetpacks is a squad based cost not points per model so you run into a situation where the jetpacks get more and more worth it the more models you have. The squad, if not using jetpacks, has the dedicated transport options of either a Corsair Venom or a Corsair Falcon as transport.

Corsair Void Dreamer - As one who wields the might of the Eldar psyker with wild abandon I am underwhelmed by this unit. She is essentially the ships navigator who is somewhere between a warlock and a farseer. She lacks all the reliability of a standard Eldar psyker and is only leadership 9. In return however she is a little bit more flexible and a lot handier in a fight. She comes with Rune Armour, a Shuriken Pistol, and a close combat weapon. The weapons may be substituted for a Neural Shredder a S8 AP1 Template weapon that attacks on the targets leadership value. Other options include a Power Weapon, Void Sabre, or a Witchblade. As for wargear she can take haywire grenades, a corsair jetpack, A gyrinx (That little cat in the in the picture, which gives a single re-roll per game of any D6 roll that the player makes), Spirit Stones, Balelight, or another Corsair jetpack which is another one of those typos in the book. I am thinking it is actually supposed to be the webway portal that is listed in the wargear section, but no unit has the option of taking. She comes with three psychic powers the most impressive of which is Withering Radiance. It is a psychic shooting attack that has a range of 12" and causes D6 hits with a Strength of 10 minus the targets toughness. It is AP2 which is the best part so even though it will not be instant killing anything but toughness three creatures and gets increasingly more useless on anything above toughness 5 I am still impressed with the basic level of killy associated with the power. It also hits vehicles like a haywire grenade. It is worded as though it only does a single hit against vehicles however. Her second power is Spirit Shield which is almost completely disappointing. It is essentially a psychic test activated global rune staff that only functions on hostile powers targeting the unit containing the Void Dreamer. In addition this power grants the Void Dreamer defensive grenades vs. any would be assaulting daemons or psykers. Not impressed. Lastly is Soul Scry, a lackluster version of embolden that targets a single unit within 12" and lets them reroll a leadership based test. It excludes psychic powers though so it is not even as useful as embolden. I like Withering Radiance enough, but I am still out on how I feel about this unit.

Elites
Corsair Voidstorm Squad - The only new entry for Elites. The Voidstorm Squad is essentially veteran corsairs. They can be taken in squads of 5 to 10 and come with Shuriken Pistols, Close Combat Weapons, Plasma Grenades, Shimmershields (you will never stop the squads 5+ invuln save in close combat!) and of course a Cosair jetpack. These guys are cheap too! Ringing in at the points cost of a Dire Avenger. As for options one in three can take either a flamer, fusion pistol, fusion gun, or power weapon in exchange for his pistol or close combat weapon. The squad can also take Haywire grenades or meltabombs. I am getting a strong sense that you can spam fusion guns like a pro.

Harlequin Troupe - Pretty standard, no changes, if you have an Eldar book you know what they do.

Edit: Corsair Harlequin do have the option of taking a venom if their squad numbers 5 or less. Clown cars are back!

Eldar Craftworld Outcasts - Seems like a cop-out, but is a surprisingly flexible option. Essentially you can take any Elite or Fast Attack choice from the Eldar Codex, this includes the new Shadow Spectre Squad. I assume it includes the dedicated transport option as that option is covered for the next entry.

Dark Eldar Kabalite Warriors - As written in the Dark Eldar Codex. Apparently these guys love raiding so much they do not care who they go out with. Why I think you can take a Wave Serpent with Aspect Warriors is because this entry mentions that if a venom is chosen as transport it is a Dark Eldar venom and not a corsair venom which is listed later. Both the Warriors and the Craftworld Outcast squads cannot be more plentiful in your army then the number of Corsair squads you have, so that is a limiting factor.

Troops

Eldar Corsair Squad - The bread and butter and what Guardians should be (minus the jetpacks) They are BS 4 and come with Lasblasters, Close Combat Weapons, and Plasma Grenades. Any model can exchange the lasblaster for either a shuriken pistol or shuriken catapult for free. There is a sergeant upgrade called the Felarch that has WS4 BS4 2 Attacks and Leadership 9 and can exchange his lasblaster for a fusion pistol, shuriken pistol, or shuriken catapult, and exchange his close combat weapon for a power sword. He can also have haywire grenades. The squad has a few options as well: For every 5 in the squad you can exchange one Corsair's weapon for a flamer or a fusion gun. Also for every 5 models you can exchange one Corsair's weapon for a shuriken cannon or an Eldar missile launcher. Lastly the squad can be given jetpacks. If jetpacks are not taken they can have either a Corsair Venom or Corsair Falcon as transport. Along with other requirements to taking Corsair squads you must also take a minimum of one such squad regardless of any other units you are fielding.

Eldar Wasp Assault Walker - Pricey but effective. It is a troops choice version of the war walker with all the weapon options. Gone however is Scout and instead you get Jump Jets and the ability to deep strike. The Jump Jets let you move up to 12" like a skimmer for the turn instead of shooting or assaulting. Unfortunately the number of Assault Walker squads may not exceed the number of Corsair squads so Wasp Spamming is limited.

Corsair Jetbike Squadron - My favorite. A little more pricey than regular jetbikes, but they have BS 4 and come with Shuriken Pistols and Close Combat weapons. The unit has the standard one out of three shuriken cannon upgrade and it also has the option to take a Felarch. The Felarch can exchange his weapons for a power weapon and/or a fusion pistol. The unit also has the scouts special rule.

Dedicated Transports
Corsair Falcon - A more expensive BS 4 Falcon. It has all the normal options, but it also lists the transport capacity as 10 models. Not sure if this is in error or not as all references to taking it as a dedicated transport list the unit size as 6 models or less in order to take it.

Corsair Venom - This is a bargain Vyper with a transport capacity of 5 models. It has BS4 and all the wargear options standard to craftworld vehicles and can upgrade its standard shuriken cannon to a scatter laser, starcannon, or Eldar missile Launcher. Unfortunately it cannot lay down dakka like the Dark Eldar version, but considering how cheap it is I am sold!

Fast Attack

Corsair Hornet Squadron - All that is good about war walkers and vypers, nothing that is bad. It is armour 11 in the front and sides, 10 in the rear. It has a BS of 4 and comes standard with two shuriken cannons. These can of course be upgraded to any other craftworld gun including the pulse laser found on the falcon. Although it can get pricey the option to double up on guns does not make them twin-linked. It can also take all the Eldar wargear options save star engines which are standard and it has the scout and aerial assault special rule. Comes in squads of 1 to 3

Nightwing Interceptor - They made it a fast skimmer and much cheaper. Functions like a cross between the Dark Eldar Fighter and the Flyer version of the Nightwing. BS 4, armour 10 all around. Comes with two brightlances and two shuriken cannons both of which count as AA guns for apocalypse (it is still a flyer in apocalypse games too) It can deepstrike, has aerial assault, and supersonic special rules and comes with Eldar Titan-holofields (A 4+ invulnerable save if it moves.) It still has impossible manoeuvres when it is a flyer as well so it only has to move 18" instead of 36"

Corsair Night Spinner - It is a BS 4 more expensive Nightspinner, that is about it. Still a boss tank and oh yeah, it is in the fast attack slot.

Heavy Support

Corsair Phoenix Bomber - As with the Nightwing it has rules as a fast skimmer unless you are playing apocalypse. BS 4, Armour 10 all around, and comes with Two Shuriken Cannons (w/AA mounts!) Two Phoenix Missile Launchers and a Pulse Laser. The Pulse Laser can be exchanged for either twin-linked brightlances or twin-linked starcannons at no points cost and you can exchange the phoenix missile launchers with nightfire missile launchers. It has all the same special rules as the Nightwing. For a bomber the missiles are surprisingly more suited for infantry as you can either take the standard Phoenix launcher which is like a heavy 3 Reaper launcher or the Nightfire which is a S4 AP5 Heavy 3 blast that does not allow cover saves and is pinning.

Corsair Warp Hunter - Falcon chasis with a D-Cannon. It is an excellent tank. Standard Eldar grav tank options. The D-Cannon can either fire as normal or as a 6" range template attack.

Corsair Fire Storm - The last (and only) word in Eldar anti-air capability. If you like Scatter lasers this tank is for you. It is a standard Falcon chasis with a Twin-linked Fire Storm Scatter laser. (60" range S6 AP6 Heavy 6) It also has a six model transport capacity. I am surprise it does not have rules like a hydra against skimmers though, and it is pretty expensive.

That concludes the list. Again there are a lot of issues with the editing and included in the background info for the army is a reference to ranger squads, but the option is not listed itself. I think this list will put a lot of bite back in Eldar, but it does have the same drawbacks in terms of durability. I am also surprised that with all the deepstriking capabilities there is not any wargear, power, or option to improve your chances or modify your reserve rolls. As for choices I do not really see enough options to make things convoluted and there really is not a unit I would not take save maybe the Void Dreamer. Then again, she'll be somewhat handy against Grey Knights and Chaos Daemons.

From the webway I return, much like a Phoenix Lord, but far far less awesome. I have been on the Path of the Hiatus, taking a brief sabbatical from the game of 40k. I will admit that my reasons for exit were partially related to being disheartened with the state of the game. In truth, however, it may have simply been me putting my desire to win games over the love of the hobby. I may have also dabbled with the Space Marine codex a little before my departure. This of course lead to the state of mind that in order to be successful I had to fall in line and play a Marine army. I can say however, from the experience that I approached the Marine 'dex with a fresh pair of eyes and an alien style of play. Some things just look more appealing when you are used to zipping around the battlefield with toughness 3, I guess. Ultimately though I missed my Eldar and I once again felt the call of Khaine.

So here we are. A Reboot. Given my success rate with 40k I began to find it a little pretentious (although ultimately Eldar-like) to banter about tactics when I could not make successful use of my own strategies. So there will be less of that. I still have my opinions of what works and what does not, but all Eldar players do, so no surprise there, right? I have entrenched myself in stacks of Eldar fluff as of late, finishing Path of the Warrior (by Gav Thorpe) and currently reading Path of the Seer (also by Gav Thorpe) As I type this a box somewhere in the world is my copy of Imperial Armour 11 on a trip to my house. Hopefully it will be here by next week. All of this of course has me considering the background of my Eldar army. Maybe I can write something worth while to share here.

I have been painting my forces. The desire to see painted armies on fully decked out tables has made me more than excited to finish up the units I use most. The pictures are of some of my current projects. Up top you have my current 1500pt list and below a close shot of my jetbikes. I have learned some new painting techniques that are helping and you can expect some project logs as I get my stuff painted.

Also, with the recent holiday season came gifts and among those gifts a digital camcorder so I am hoping to be producing some Battle reports in the near future both to provide an overview of my play style as well as some entertainment. I already snagged the youtube channel ghostwindcorsairs, but there is nothing up there as of yet.

In all, it is my plan to devote more time to this blog and have a good year gaming along the way. Hopefully it is all enjoyable. Happy New Years and see you soon.
That is half my table, with my small collection of unfinished terrain pieces. I've kind of evolved it into a battle board type project similar to those brought to Adepticon. Got an 1850pt Army there, more posts on the army itself later. For now let's focus on the visual elements. The vast majority of the models don't even have a basecoat, which is disappointing, but I think I've chosen some of the more exciting models to paint so assuming I finish it, the board should look pretty awesome. Let's get into some close-ups.

To the immediate left you have what currently looks like a scorched wood with some Rangers in it and some shiny scorpions. Most of the Rangers are painted (poorly). Need to finish off the woods, flock the trees, and then paint up the units. The Striking Scorpions will have the standard aspect warrior color scheme, while the Rangers sport my Bleached Bone/Ice Blue color scheme under their chameleoline cloaks. I'll be honest, the cloaks could use some work and of course I need to flock the bases.
The Next element of the army are these Swooping Hawks on a hill. Looks like they just landed and the Exarch is pointing to where he wants to skyleap next. (I know, annoying right?) Of course you can't see any of this because of the glare. As for the hill itself, it will be painted green, and I've got some plastic plantlife that I want to glue onto the hill. It will add some color and give the impression of alien foliage. I got the idea from Shenanigan's Hobby shop in Taylor. They've got a whole set of terrain that uses plastic flowers from a dollar store to create an alien forest landscape similar to Felucia in Revenge of the Sith. Again I intend to give these guys the standard aspect warrior color scheme. As a bonus this pic includes a shot of my 360 and part of my cat's fort. (Refer to first pic for a full view of the cat fort.)

This brings us to center stage. A staple of my army lists for some time now is the jetbike unit. This one sports a warlock and Farseer, and I just brought it up to 9 models strong. Also featured is my webway gate. They used to have templates and instructions on how to make them on the GW website, but I don't believe it's up there anymore. At any rate. Not hard to make. All the models need some finishing touches and I've recently warmed to the idea of flocking my flying bases. Something I used to be opposed with simply because I liked the idea of seeing whatever terrain was underneath. Now however, I see it as an opportunity to add more detail to the model. Also, it covers up smudging and what have you on the base itself.
On the upper right of the table I've got a few thing going on. There is another swooping hawks unit as well as my, hopefully starting to be infamous, War Walkers. This time though they are armed with scatter lasers (I had the points!) and you get to see my Autarch commander directing traffic. It's less apparent in this picture, but when you get the wide shot it looks like the war walkers are cruising through a valley which is kind of an awesome visual. As I said before the hawks will have the standard light blue color scheme of their aspect. I'm still hashing out the colors scheme on the war walkers. My standard vehicle scheme being enchanted blue with dry brushed ice blue over it, but since they are walkers I might go a different route. Currently thinking to try doing the under chassis and legs in bleached bone and give the rest of the model, specifically the armored areas, the light blue on dark blue camo pattern. Guns will likely be grey or black. As for the Autarch, I sort of want to paint him up like the Autarch/Swooping Hawk on the 2nd edition codex. Go with the bleach bone armor, and ice blue helmet, but use an almost rainbow like pattern on the wing tips. Time will tell how that works out.

The last picture is of another Ranger squad and a full unit of Harlequin. That Deathjester there is my only completely painted model, yet even now I need to touch him up as he's taken battle damage. With the rest of the Harlequin I'm going to explore painting them in as many crazy ways as I can imagine. Yes, I'm painting my Troupe Master to resemble the Joker. One of them has a half-assed attempt at a diamond pattern on his jacket, but that needs some serious refinement. The Rangers will be painted similarly to the other group and I intend to finish the trees at some point. As a whole I see the army as a recon element (though at 1850pts it's likely to be recon in-force) and my intention is to portray them just entering a planet via that webway gate. This year we are kicking off something to truly get your hobby juices flowing: Armies on Parade.

So what's it all about then?
Armies on Parade is your chance to plan, collect, model and paint an amazing new army, display it on a two foot by two foot board and show it off in all its glory in your local Hobby Centre.

All our Hobby Centres around the world will be holding a Parade Day where everyone in the store will have the chance to vote for their favourite Army on Parade.

Every store winner will then go on to proudly represent their community at Games Day, where all the winning boards from across the country will be on display and the ultimate Armies on Parade champion will be chosen. If you are attending Games Day, not only will you have a chance to see all the magnificent boards, but you will also get to vote for your favourite making the national winner the true hobbyist's champion.

I'm actually quite interested in this. Not so much to enter the contest itself, but as an opportunity to paint and model. Still I have no idea which of my units I want to showcase, but I've got 10,000+ points to choose from last time I added it all up. I also think this will be a great opportunity to put together some Eldar terrain. I made a webway gate from a tutorial a long time ago and have been working on some other Craftworld style buildings. Perhaps this is a good time to get off my ass and finish some of these projects. Maybe I'll actually finish painting some units! If all goes well, expect to see some progress logs.

By that it is meant that, if there is a problem in the 40k universe, the Eldar have the solution. Enemy Space Marines brought a pesky Land Raider? Try some Fire Dragons. Need that objective, send in the Guardian Jetbikes. No hoard can withstand a Dire Avenger Bladestorm followed by a Striking Scorpion assault. Why then is the Eldar codex not number one? Well, like everything about this army, it takes finesse to balance everything. The points are just too high to take every awesome unit. This is why you do not see any army lists that have Wraithguard as troops, Aspect Warriors in wave serpents, and the list led by a Farseer and Warlocks on jetbikes. The point costs for all of that would have you playing Apocalypse where you have that and your opponent is rocking multiple Baneblades. How do you balance it all? A good place to start would be to build your army in the shadow of a particular Craftworld.
Read the fluff. The Eldar Craftworlds are not just a color scheme, but a style of play. Each Craftworld has its own war doctrine. Each Craftworld has a specialty: Saim-hann has jetbikes, Ulthwe has powerful psykers, and Alaitoc is ranger heavy. Not only does each have a specialty, but they make a concession in order to fit in the type of units they specialize in. Let us look at Ulthwe again. Craftworld Ulthwe is famous for two things, its Warlocks and Farseers, and also it’s Black Guardians. Why Guardians and not Dire Avengers? The answer to that question comes down to points, at least when the transition to the table top is made. Compare a Dire Avenger to a Guardian, by all accounts you have a superior unit and as such you pay extra points for it. Now consider that you get three Guardians for every two Dire Avengers and things begin to come clearer. The Dire Avenger is still the better unit and worth the points, however when you need to put models on the table while conserving points for better units, the Guardian becomes a better buy. Ulthwe has “Black Guardians” so that their military high command can bring as many Warlocks as possible. Here is a list made using the ascribed method.

In Wave Serpent (w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines, and TL-Eldar Missile Launcher

          Eldrad

Farseer w/Runes of Witnessing, Spirit Stones, Doom, Mind War, Eldtrich Storm, Singing Spear

          Warlocks x10 w/Enhance, Embolden, Destructor x8, Singing Spear x4

In Wave Serpent (w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines, and TL-Brightlance

          Guardians x10 w/Scatter Laser

          Warlock w/Singing Spear, Destructor

In Wave Serpent (w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines, and TL-Scatter Laser)

          Storm Guardians x10 w/Fusion Gun x2

          Warlock w/Enhance

In Wave Serpent (w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines, and TL-Brightlance

          Guardians x10 w/Scatter Laser

          Warlock w/Singing Spear, Destructor

In Wave Serpent (w/Spirit Stones, Star Engines, and TL-Scatter Laser)

          Storm Guardians x10 w/Fusion Gun x2

Warlock w/Enhance

How does this relate to the “toolbox”? Well, the Eldar Codex contains several units that fill each role in the 41st millennium. Some of these units are better at these jobs than others, but you can cut on one type of role to bolster another. In the list above each unit has a means of dealing with troops and vehicles. The Guardians in Wave Serpents can use their transports gun or the Warlocks singing spear to handle oncoming vehicles, while the Guardians use their shuriken catapults and scatter laser platform to handle footsloggers in range. The Wave Serpent ensuring that they do indeed get into range. The Storm Guardians on the other hand can thin hordes with their transports gun, dispatch tanks with the fusion guns and Warlock’s witchblade, and by way of Enhance can handle themselves decently in an assault. The “Seer Council” has mobility thanks to their Wave Serpent, and by the power of Witchblades, Singing Spears, and Psychic Powers handle just about any threat in the universe. This unit could be built thanks to points saved by choosing Guardians. There were even enough points left to put the whole army in Wave Serpents. As it is an Eldar force, finesse and clever tactics are required to win the day, but the list itself covers all the bases and if it is played right, will be a force to reckon with.

(See last post) They're like a sneaky left hook. Their biggest feature: A cheap unit with lots of Dakka. With other expensive choices in the Heavy Support slot it is nice to see that I can have 18 Str 6 Ap 5 shots for slightly more than the cost of a baseline Fire Prism. I've used them in my last five games now, lost a total of 9 War Walkers in all, and wrecked a fair amount of face. Some career Highlights:

Game #1 vs. Blood Angels - Outflanked behind an outflanking Baal Predator and immobilized it with shots to the rear. Tied up Assault Marines in close combat for two turns before succumbing to Power Fists.

Game #2 vs. Tyranids - Outflanked onto the table and mopped up some Winged Warriors and Gaunts, tied up warriors in close combat until turn 6 where they met their end.

Game #3 vs. Orks - Came onto the board normally and removed a 7 man squad of Ork Lootas, then survived a 30-man Ork mob assault and slowly but surely picked it apart in the remaining rounds of combat. Lost two walkers to power klaws

Game #4 vs. Daemons - Less than spectacular, Outflanked on the wrong side of the table and fired pot shots at plague bearers

Game #5 vs. Daemonhunters - Outflanked onto the table, obliterated an Inquisitor's retinue, cleaned up a massed squad of guardsmen in close combat. After losing one to a Vindicare Assassin, they continued to pour shuriken into the woods holding a heavy weapons crew.

That is a nice resume considering what my Falcons normally do. Mosts games my Falcons fly around all shaken and stuff.

Now before I said that they were like a sneaky left hook, I mean more than that then they outflank onto the table and destroy stuff. There's a meta-game psychology attached to them. They are unassuming Armor 10 vehicles with the cheapest guns Eldar money can buy. Less intimidating, than say, A fire prism or Wraithlord. In fact, my Harlequin get the most attention in my previously described list. This leaves the War Walkers plenty of time to move into position.

You might be asking, "Isn't the Scatter Laser a better option? It has better range and 1 more shot. Why not take 6 of those instead of Shuriken Cannons?" For me the answer was related to saving points, but really I feel it's a matter of opinion. Scatter Lasers cost three times more than Shuriken Cannons, multiply that 6 times and the cheapness of the unit goes out the window. The differences between AP 5 and AP 6 may be unworthy of mention, but consider how many more units you can flat out kill with an AP 5 weapon over an AP 6. Who has armor 6? Orks, Kroot?. Who has armor 5? Some Eldar, most Imperial Guard, several sub-species of Nid, and some Tau. Weapons are progressively more awesome the better an AP they have.

Let's get back to tactics with these guys. Ideally suited for hoard armies, you can use them a little differently and still get the same bang for your buck. The Str 6 shot is good enough for all but the thickest tank armor and you can use these guys to pop transports like Rhinos and Chimeras. Or get at the rear of most other thanks and pummel them with shots as I did against that Baal Predator (He thought he'd be fast like Eldar! Showed you buddy!) You'll wound the inhabitants of said Transports on a 2+ more often than not, so even if they have 3+ armor saves, you're still likely to down a few. The biggest hindrance to this firepower is the BS 3 these Walkers shoot at. Why the Eldar don't have a Path of the Vehicle Operations Specialist is beyond me! Counter this drawback with Guide and you essentially have 6 twin-linked shuriken cannons! Relatively slow compared to other vehicles and namely other Eldar vehicles, War Walkers can take some effort to get them into position. Outflanking is really a good option. You'll get to where you want to be 2/3 of the time. Generally when it comes to outflanking players will not consider outflankers or at least not deem them a big enough threat. If they are concerned they will keep their forces centralized. Find out which type of player you're facing and use it to your advantage. More often than not your opponent could care less that three goofy looking Eldar Walkers can coming in from the side of the table, if so, walk on and go to work. If they are concerned they will condense their forces in the center of the table. Use this to your advantage and let other units like swooping hawks have some fun dropping grenades on the clustered infantry or multi-assaulting some tanks with haywire grenades. May be a far fetched plan, but not impossible. As I said earlier, the War Walker Squadron is generally unassuming. In a sense it doesn't draw Aggro as much as other units. At any rate I'd like to drop the army list I've been running these days to give you an idea of the type of Eldar I play. Later I'll talk about how I use it. Here's 1000pts worth. I have been using it since a team tourney I played in, a couple of weeks back and wrecked enough face to really consider it as a viable play style.

HQ
Autarch w/Swooping Hawk Wings, Mandiblasters, Power Weapon, and Avenger Shuriken Catapult

Elite
Harlequin Troupe w/4x Harlequin Kiss, 2x Fusion Pistol, Troupe Master w/Power Weapon, Shadowseer, Deathjester

Troops
Guardian Jetbike Squadron x8 w/2x Shuriken Cannons
Rangers x5 w/Pathfinder upgrade

Fast Attack
Swooping Hawks x6 w/Exarch carrying Sunrifle and Skyleap/Intercept

Heavy Support
War Walker Squadron x3 w/Shuriken Cannons x6

If you've played me before you may be wondering where my Farseer and Falcons are. The lack of a Farseer was an unwilling sacrifice to save on points and I would like to have Eldrad or a Jetbike Farseer in the list if possible. As far as the Falcons go, I've stopped using them for awhile. Probably won't see them until the 5th Edition Eldar codex comes out where I'm hoping Falcons are cheaper and (fingers crossed) dedicated transports for aspect warriors.

Farseers are just my personal preference, but even I have a use for Autarchs and can appreciate their tactical benefits. In an increasingly non-linear game the Autarch is slowly becoming necessary. My side of the table does not fight your side anymore. Units can come in from anywhere or any side. A few even come up from beneath! The catch to this new found mobility is that these units must come in from reserve. The Eldar codex just happens to be one of the few 4th Edition codices that was prepared for thee rules changes and no unit helps you maximize your outflank/deep strike potential like an Autarch and his master strategist ability. Whether the Autarch is in play or not you may opt to add one to your reserves rolls. Have two Autarchs?? Why not go ahead and add two to reserves! This means that if you use Swooping Hawks and Skyleap you will be able to drop a grenade pack nearly every turn, coming in on a 2+ as early as turn 2!

Outside of that handy ability the Autarch is a pretty solid warrior and will generally end up being cheaper than a Farseer after upgrades. The trick is to know what you want to use your Autarch for and choose wargear appropriately. Your choice of mobility upgrade is generally up to you. Which flavor of moving 12” across the battlefield do you like? Allow me to break it down. Swooping Hawk wings are the cheapest, but least mobile. You only get the Jump Infantry 12” move. Both the wings and the Warp Jump Generator allow you to deep strike, but the Warp Jump Generator also allows for an albeit risky 2d6” extra move in the assault phase. If you roll doubles however, kiss your Autarch good-bye. If you choose the Warp Jump Generator it’s best to run him with Warp Spiders to maximize the ability and cushion him from instant and certain death at the hands of Warp Beasts. The Jetbike is the most expensive choice, but for good reason. You get the 12” move; also you get to turbo-boost 24” and the Eldar Jetbike 6” assault move. Combine that with the increase in toughness and the relentless quality and the Jetbike makes for an excellent choice. As for choice of helmet, the Banshee mask is near useless. The Autarch comes standard with plasma grenades and you’ll rarely need an initiative higher than six. The mandiblasters are a much better choice, but if you need to save points 3 base attacks may be plenty. Statistically vs. Space Marines (and variants) the Power weapon ends up being the better choice. You will kill roughly 0.887 space Marines with your 4 attacks (+1 for pistol and close combat weapon) with the power weapon over 0.439 kills using the Scorpion Chain Sword. If your opponent is playing Orks you may want to go with the Scorpion Chainsword and it will give you some potential against monstrous creatures, but for most targets the Power Weapon is the way to go. The Laser lance can be awesome, but it is still only good on the turn you assault. Also, Autarchs cannot hit and run like Shining Spears so you may very well end up tar pitting your now very expensive HQ if you are not careful. Choose targets wisely. That said, with proper wargear you can have 6 Strength 6 power weapon attacks on the charge. As for your choice of ranged weaponry, the choice is yours. Keep in mind your goal and pick the right weapon for the job.

A few thoughts on ranged weapons before I go:
• An Autarch with a Shuriken Catapult in a squad of Dire Avengers can Bladestorm
• Jetbikes are relentless and a Reaper Launcher is a Heavy Weapon

One of our early discussions was over which is better, a Farseer or an Autarch. His position was that the martial prowess of the Autarch was superior to the psychic wizardry of a Farseer. I accused him of thinking like a mon keigh (okay I said Space Marine, but I don’t want to estrange any Space Marine players out there.) Indeed, it was true that when I began playing Eldar I consider the Farseer to be nothing more than a wizard, sitting back and casting spells. I was befuddled on how to effectively use this HQ unit in my army and often ran a stripped down Farseer just to fill the Force Org. Slot. It wasn’t until, after a two year sabbatical from the game and the 4th Edition Eldar codex was released, that I truly began to walk the Path of the Seer.
Like the codex itself, running a Farseer takes skill. At its core you have a potent support unit. The ability to re-roll almost every major die roll in the game can not be overlooked. Certainly with codex creep and a clear push by the powers that be to enhance psychic powers within 5th edition the Eldar have competition, but still no other army holds a candle to the reliability and utility that a Farseer brings to the table.
We are all familiar with what Doom and Guide can do for a Dire Avenger Bladestorm (If you are not familiar, try it, it’s pretty awesome) but consider using other psychic power combinations on other units. Consider what fortune and doom used to augment a Howling Banshee assault might do to your opponent. Fortune and guide your Fire Dragons before they go after that Land Raider and make sure it is destroyed.
You should be casting two psychic powers per Farseer per turn (and a third from Eldrad if he’s on the table) There is nothing to be afraid of. With Runes of Witnessing, Ghosthelms and the potential for a Warlock with the embolden power you really don’t need to be concerned with perils of the warp or even failing a psychic test for that matter. The only anti-psyker wargear that causes me to think about casting a psychic power is the psychic hood and only turns into a roll-off between you and your opponent.
It’s for these reasons, the overall army enhancement and the reliability of such enhancement that I use Farseers over Autarchs.

Enjoy pointy eared xenos in the gothic universe, this is the place for you. Look forward to Battle Reports, Tactics, Fiction, Army Lists, and Pictures in the near future.

So I guess I should introduce myself, I am Bowen, or Shaolindisciple over at www.mi40k.com, and I've been playing Eldar since about 2003. Back then Warhammer was a completely different game and the Eldar were my first army. I was drawn in by the Falcon I must admit, an excellent model. 40k was in the midst of third edition, like I said, it was a different game. Two editions later and I still play my Eldar. The rules have changed, the way I play my army has changed, and over the years I've collected almost the entire Eldar model range and have run every kind of list from grav tank spam to foot slogging aspect warriors. After all this time I am still trying new tricks and tactics. I play in tournaments occasional and frequent hobby shops and gaming stores in the Southeast Michigan area. Well anyways, that's me and again welcome.
