Hi everyone! Due to the snow day, we need to reschedule our seminar that was supposed to be today for next Tuesday February 3rd. We will then be discussing display boards and 3rd quarter review boards as well as other 3rd quarter deadlines.

December due dates

Attention Mentorship students.
There has been some recent confusion regarding seminars and due dates. Here is a breakdown of what needs to be done:

- By Dec. 1st you should have emailed your mentor about your online portfolio. You must ask them to review it (most specifically your journals) and have them email you back with their comments. This email conversation does not have to be submitted to Mr. Ashcraft, but must be present on your portfolio by the 9th. It will be a grade.

-Dec. 9th is our seminar on the paper outline. You must have your outline finished by this date. Bring it with you.

-You should have 32 annotated bibs finished.

-Dec. 15: email Mr. Ashcraft a picture of you and your mentor on site.

Writing committee and Recruiting committee meets tomorrow after school in the Media Center. Don't forget that Wednesday Dec. 3 at 7:00pm is our information night. It would be very helpful if you could attend to market the program.

Seminar Thursday 11/20

For Thursday's seminar, everyone should come prepared with either: a written thesis OR a written statement of what your research paper will be on. We understand that not everyone is at that point in their project yet, but second quarter is progressing and it is time to start focusing on the paper. Your thesis can be very rough. Editing it and creating the paper outline will be the main focus of the seminar.
If you have any concerns, check the Links portion of the site and refer to your research scavenger hunt.

Due Date Issue

Attention Mentorship Students:

Given the recent panic regarding first quarter due dates, Leadership has come to an executive decision to address this issue. We feel as if there is no need to panic although you have known about these due dates for quite a while. At the same time, we don't want to have the due dates enforced by the fear of getting a failing grade. The decision we have arrived at is to come up with a better way to remind you of the due dates so this does not happen again. In the seminar next week, come prepared to discuss possible ways to help enforce deadlines and also come prepared with possible repercussions people will face if they fail to meet their deadlines again.

Any first quarter materials have had their due date extended to Tuesday October 21 by 3:00 PM.

The program requires that you submit all of your information to your Student Portfolio. If this is a problem, e-mail these papers to Mr. Ashcraft. Only use hard copies as a last resort for when the website is down or when Mr. Ashcraft is having a problem with your e-mails. For those of you that don't know, the mentor evaluations can be found on the resources page under forms.

Seminar Date: October 20, 2008

Attention Mentorship: There will be a mandatory seminar on Monday October 20 and October 21, 2008 (depending on which day your mentorship period is: 4A, 5, and 6 Monday; 4B Tuesday). During this seminar we will discuss the oral presentations in more depth.

ATTENTION: Members in the Event Planning Committee (Dinner and Conference Committee) will have a meeting on September 24, 2008 at 2:10, right after school, in the Media Center. This meeting will discuss the upcoming Mentorship Retreat scheduled for October 31, 2008.

Please note that the Marketing and Recruiting Committee will still have their regularly scheduled meeting at the same time in the Media Center.

Upcoming Seminar

Please be reminded that there will be a seminar on this upcoming Wednesday, April 2nd. This seminar will include discussion of the final project and end of year assignments, including important information on what's required in order to recieve credit for this course. Attendance is mandatory.

Everyone must RSVP to Mr. Ashcraft to the Mentor Dinner/Conference by April 4th. The dinner and conference is on April 28th and is an excellent opportunity to thank your mentor and view your colleagues' projects.

Due Date Reminders (Check the packet!)

If you haven't checked the Second Quarter Packet requirements lately, now is the time to do so. The packet is located on the Mentorship website.

First and foremost, please be aware that your signed Second Quarter Mentor Evaluation (50% of your quarter grade) is due to Mr. Ashcraft by January 11, 2008.

Second Quarter Review Board will still take place after the portfolio turn in this Friday, January 4. Your portfolio will be graded based on the rubric previously sent out.

Other dates to consider: The Student Project Proposal, Mentor's Evaluation, Summary Reflection, Self Evaluation and the 2nd Research Portfolio Evaluation (final check by Mr. Ashcraft) are due Friday, January 11th.

Additionally, please be sure to attain your mentor's signature on your Project Proposal (10% of your quarter grade) and also have your mentor read and review your research paper before Midterms. Mr. Ashcraft is looking to see feedback and commentary provided by your mentor.

See Mr. Ashcraft as soon as possible if you have any issues or concerns.

December 12 Seminar

Students should have begun working on their Project Proposal and should bring their ideas and notes to the seminar tomorrow. Visit the packet or resource section for more information.
Additionally, students should bring the latest version of their research paper for commentary and suggestions. It's important to recieve peer suggestions throughout the paper writing process, and it's even more important to ask for help if you're still struggling with ideas, your thesis, or anything else.

The new message board is up, but unlike the calendar and Leadership updates, the message board will open in a new window/tab. In order to use the message board, you must sign up for an account, and once you submit the form, Leadership will need to confirm your account, so it may take a few days to get set up to post on the boards. Anonymous users can read posts, however, so while you will not be able to make a post until you are registered, you will be able to read posts by other students.

New Bulletin Board

This is the new Leadership bulleting board. Updates will be posted here, and if your browser allows you to subscribe to news feeds, such as Internet Explorer 7 or Firefox, you can click the "Subscribe to: Posts (Atom)" link under the posts to have your browser notify you when there are updates. You can also add comments to each post to ask questions, etc.
Also, the calendar is up on the site. If you have a google account, you can add the Mentorship calendars to your account, so that they show up on your calendar as well.
