Back in the ‘80s, one of the most popular cartoons on TV was G.I. Joe. Young boys watched in anticipation how the American special mission force would defend the world against the attack of Cobra. It’s been almost two decades since the last airing of the cartoon series, yet G.I. Joe fans still love to keep the memories of their childhood alive. Take a trip down memory lane by looking at the most memorable GI Joe characters. See if your favorite is included in the list.

1. Snake Eyes

Snake Eyes, the only ninja in the GI Joe team, is one of the most popular GI Joe characters. Wearing a metal visor and a black attire, Snake Eyes uses his trademark ninja sword and uzi against the enemies.

2. Scarlett

Scarlett is the first woman in the GI Joe team and one of the leading GI Joe characters. A great martial artist and lawyer, Scarlett uses a crossbow as her weapon.

3. Duke

The first sergeant and field leader for the GI Joe members, Duke is an original GI Joe member and a valuable asset to the team. Duke spearheads the fight against Cobra and other opponents.

4. Gung Ho

Gung Ho is a Cajun Marine who dons the coolest military uniforms. And oh, his chest has a cool tattoo on it.

5. Hawk

With a long experience in the military, Hawk leads the GI Joe team and plans ways to defeat Cobra. His military expertise works well in the GI Joe team as he helps take down Cobra several times.

Most of the GI Joe action figures from the cartoon series are available as costumes from the new GI Joe movie. Check out some GI Joe Costumes now!

During the 1980s, a lot of young and adult couch potatoes were hooked by the GI Joe cartoon series. Titled G.I. Joe: A Real American Hero, each episode of the animated show ran for half an hour. It is based on a comic book series and Hasbro’s successful toy action figure series with the same name. The animated TV series was created by Ron Friedman, who wrote four mini-series for the show.

The TV show’s premise revolves around the good versus evil theme: a trained American military special force team is tasked to save the world against Cobra, a terrorist group that seeks to dominate the world. The special force group consists of personnel from all sections of the American military.

The term G.I. Joe refers to the code name used for that group. The cartoon series involve use of advanced weapons and physical fighting scenes.

The GI Joe cartoon series started with two five-part mini-series in 1983. The next year, the series was created as a five-part special titled G.I. Joe II: The Revenge of the Cobra. From 1985 to 1987, it became a regular syndicated series.

The G.I. Joe TV series went into the silver screen with the G.I. Joe: The Movie in 1987. Two years later, G.I. Joe did a comeback with the mini-series Operation: Dragonfire. Two more seasons were shown on the television in 1990 and 1991. The series lasted until 1995 on the USA network.

Critics hailed GI Joe cartoon series because of its exceptional audio and video scoring, voice cast, and animation.

Most of the GI Joe action figures from the cartoon series are available as costumes from the new GI Joe movie. Check out some GI Joe Costumes now!

GI Joe action figures, cartoons, and comic books are parts of every young boy’s childhood who grew up in the late 80’s and early 90’s. The young boys back then idolized the Joes who constantly fought against evil forces.

If you are also a GI Joe fan, you have probably heard about the new GI Joe movie. Maybe you have even watched it already because it has already premiered in Tokyo, Japan. The event was attended by the movie’s cast.

The GI Joe movie was developed by Lorenzo di Bonaventura, a film producer and a former CEO of Warner Bros., and by Brian Goldner, the CEO of Hasbro. Hasbro is the toy company which created the famous GI Joe action figures. Bonaventura thought of producing a film featuring high technology military equipments and Goldner recommended his GI Joe characters for the film. This is not the first time that the two worked together. After they agreed to use Hasbro’s GI Joe toy line, they selected Michale B. Gordon, the screenwriter for the movie 300, to write the script for the movie.

There is a new character in the new GI Joe movie which is not included in the cartoons and comic books. Hasbro gave the name Rex to the new character. Bonaventura was the one who decided to have a new character because he wanted the movie to trace the origins of some of the Joes, especially Duke.

This all happened in 2003 and after six years in the making, the movie was finally be released on August 7, 2009.

GI Joe costumes are anything but traditional for the new live action movie. The characters in the movie do not look like regular soldiers. They look more like special cops. For the new movie, GI Joe costumes are all black – not just typical black uniforms but skin tight black overalls.

Today, GI Joe fanatics, even though they are adults now, still collect GI Joe stuff like action figures and comic books which are considered collectibles. These GI Joe collectibles are being sold and bought at very expensive prices. This keeps the GI Joe craze alive, although not as much as before.

If you want to know the top 10 GI Joe figures for the last 20 years, you should read the list below.

Serpentor

What makes Serpentor one of the most popular GI Joe figures is his accessories. He has a cool vehicle, a golden snake costume, and a cape. Though his character was not that strong in the cartoons.

Croc-master

This GI Joe toy wears a black mask and he has an alligator made of plastic.

Crimson Guard

He is probably one of the oldest GI Joe figures and is a great collectible. These are a part of Cobra’s elite troop. They wear red overalls which makes them very noticeable.

Cobra Commander

Of course, the leader of the Joe’s nemeses should be included in this list. The fact that he is a major character in the GI Joe stories makes him a great collectible.

Zartan

He is probably the action figure in the GI Joe toy line that can change his face color to blue, and this makes him a good addition to your collection.

The Baroness

One of the few action figures who is actually a woman, the Baroness wears black attire, complete with glasses and a gun.

Gung-Ho

Men who were born in the 80’s probably grew up playing with their GI Joe action figures, reading GI Joe comic books, or watching GI Joe cartoons. Who would forget the line from the GI Joe cartoons “Knowing is half the battle” which was stated in a public service announcement every time one episode ends? You have probably learned a lot of advice from the Joes—from being lost and petting strange dogs to burning houses and first aids.

The people behind GI Joe decided to create a movie based on these toy soldiers. The title of the new GI Joe movie is GI Joe: The Rise of the Cobra. Cobra is the name of the organization which the Joes constantly fight with. Many people, especially GI Joe fanatics, are waiting for the movie’s premiere. It has already been shown in some major cities all over the world.

GI Joe fans all over the world are eager to see their beloved characters being portrayed by modern actors and actresses. And of course, they also want to see the GI Joe costumes. If you are expecting the old-fashioned camouflage soldier uniforms worn by the Joes in the cartoons way back then, you are in for a big surprise.

GI Joe costumes are anything but traditional. The characters in the movie do not look like regular soldiers. They look more like special cops. For the new movie, GI Joe costumes are all black—not just typical black uniforms but skin tight black overalls. This costume makes the Joes look sleeker and sexy, which is not really a bad thing.
