New Era, the official on-field headwear of the National Football League, is teaming up with the NFL to launch the Back to Football Photo Day contest.
The contest, which is live at www.speakwithyourcap.com or through New Era’s Facebook page (https://www.facebook.com/neweracaps?fref=ts) will require Giants faithfuls to submit photos of themselves showcasing how you personally “speak with your cap.” Whether you wear your cap sideways, backwards or flexed at the brim, show how you are bringing your own style to the game.

32 fans (1 per team) will ultimately be chosen and win a complimentary trip to New York City for two.
While it doesn’t sound like the Giants will be taking a chance on free agent QB Tim Tebow, Giants co-owner Steve Tisch sure isn’t shy about taking a shot at the Jets when it comes to Tebow.

Tisch told TMZ.com that the Jets destroyed any chance Tebow had to be a successful quarterback in the NFL.

“I think him going from the Broncos to the Jets was not in anybody’s best interest,” Tisch told TMZ on his way out of Dan Tana’s in L.A. Sunday night.

“Had another team picked him up after the Broncos, maybe he’d have a career.”

Could it be the Giants – not likely.

Linebacker Aaron Curry is the newest member of the Giants, Dave Hutchinson of the Newark Star-Ledger reports.

“Excited to be a Giant,” he tweeted about the move.

Curry, selected No. 4 overall in 2009 NFL Draft by the Seahawks, began his visit with the Giants on Thursday night and came back this morning for a workout. It apparently went well.

The Giants hope Curry to bolster a linebacking corp depleted by the release of Michael Boley and the departure of Chase Blackburn, who signed with Carolina.

Curry, 27. spent two non-productive seasons with the Seahawks before being traded to the Raiders during the 2011 season. He hasn’t played since he was released by Oakland last November after playing in just two games.

Curry has had chronic knee problems during his career, and has just 5 1/2 sacks and 190 tackles in 48 games.

Free-agent receiver/kick returner Josh Cribbs has been a busy man, visiting with the Raiders and even getting a contract offer from them, but as of now not signing it.

He also has a date set up with the Lions, and also the Jets. After his chat with the other New York team, Cribbs will pay a visit to the Giants.

The Giants had some interest in Cribbs earlier as they are looking for a replacement for Domenik Hixon.

It was a knee that stopped Cribbs from getting a job earlier, as he had offseason arthroscopic surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his knee, and failed a physical with the Cardinals earlier in free agency.

Last season Cribbs averaged 12 yards a return on punts, and 27.4 yards per return on kickoffs.

Aaron Curry, who was the fourth-overall pick in the 2009 draft, will talk to the Giants on Thursday.

The 6-2, 255-pound linebacker hasn’t played since he was cut by the Oakland Raiders last November in part due to chronic knee problems that helped derail his career.

But he’s been working out and feels healthy, a source said, and has drawn the interest of several NFL teams. The Giants will get the first look at him, beginning when Curry arrives in New Jersey on Wednesday night.

Curry, a veteran of four NFL seasons, is still only 27 years old. But he never quite lived up to all his promise. The former Butkus Award winner – given to the nation’s best collegiate linebacker – had just 5 ½ sacks in his first two NFL seasons with the Seattle Seahawks. In his third season, 2011, he lost his starting job early and was traded to the Oakland Raiders on Oct. 12 (for a seventh-round pick in 2012 and a fifth-rounder in 2013).

Victor Cruz is the only restricted free agent still unsigned by the Giants, and Tom Coughlin is concerned, David Satriano of the New York Post reports.

Speaking on WFAN Monday afternoon, Coughlin said he hoped at this point Cruz would have signed a deal and been involved in offseason workouts. The deadline for another team to sign restricted free agents to an offer sheet was April 19.

“It has to be a concern because when the restricted free agency period is over, you would hope that things would move fast. What we want is exactly what I said the other day. We want a win-win. We want Victor to be proud to be a New York Giant, proud of his contract,” Coughlin said.

As a restricted free agent, Cruz’s options are to sign his one-year tender of $2.879 million, sign the multi-year deal (averaging more than $7 million per year) on the table or else hold out in hopes of squeezing more money out of the Giants. Cruz was missing for the start of the Giants optional offseason program which opened on April 15 which was hardly a surprise.

“The New York Giants want him back as badly as we’ve ever wanted anybody,” Coughlin said, “And so we like the thing to be settled and over with and we wish it would be that way so that he could be in here working with the quarterback in the offseason. And the sooner it gets settled, the better off we will be.”

By Former Giant Harry Carson

The NFC East is bulking up. During the 2013 NFL Draft, my New York Giants, the Dallas Cowboys, and the Philadelphia eagles each took offensive linemen with their first-round pick, and then followed them up with a defensive tackle and two physical tight ends, respectively, in round two.

This is what I look for in the NFL draft. Fans and pundits alike will debate for years whether Geno Smith should have been taken in the first round, and whether any of the quarterbacks selected in the fourth round will have productive NFL careers.

But when I look at this weekend-long event, I see new chapters to the game’s best rivalries forming before our eyes. This year that meant three teams bulking up to match the division champion Redskins’ physical, dynamic rushing attack. Last year that meant two teams trading up to get a franchise quarterback in Robert Griffin III, and a shutdown cornerback in Morris Claiborne, who the Cowboys hope will be a thorn in Griffin’s side for the next decade.

These kinds of subplots don’t show up on draft combine reports, but its results can last decades.

This June, for instance, two dozen current and former players and coaches from the Cowboys, Redskins, Philadelphia Eagles, and New York Giants will join me to rehash their gridiron battles on the golf course at the Rival Golf Classic. The event benefits the Congressional Medal of Honor Foundation – a cause worthy enough for icons like Lawrence Taylor and Ed “Too Tall” Jones to go head-to-head like it was 1985 again.

Such an event speaks to the kind of history each NFC East team shares with the other three. It’s filled with the types of rivalries that let us imagine Griffin and Caliborne pushing each other to careers so successful that their competition means something to fans – even at a golf course 20 years after they play their last snaps.

After all, it’s the surrounding peers who help define each individual player’s career. I know football historians often compare me and Taylor to other linebackers from different eras, but it was quarterbacks like the Eagles’ Randall Cunningham, running backs like the Cowboys’ Tony Dorsett, and blockers like the Redskins’ Hogs who brought out our best.

I know first -hand that nothing is more motivating than the thought of beating a worthy opponent. Throughout history, the NFC East has been full of those. We had to bring our best when we played each other.

So, when watching this year’s draft, look beyond each prospect’s height, weight, and 40-yard-dash time. Think about what their selection could mean to an entire division. Because those are the matchups that will play out on the gridiron for the next decade. And, if we’re lucky, the golf course after that.

Harry Carson played 13 NFL seasons for the New York Giants and was elected to the pro football Hall of Fame in 2006. He played in nine Pro Bowls and was a captain of the Giants’ 1986 Super Bowl championship team. Harry is now the President and CEO of Harry Carson, Inc., the Executive Director of the Fritz Pollard Alliance, an advocate for concussion safety in the NFL, and the host of the Rival Golf Classic, an annual charity golf tournament which will be held June 24 in Clifton, New Jersey.

The Giants used their first pick of the 2013 NFL Draft to shore up the offensive line, as the team picked Syracuse OT Justin Pugh.

Pugh is 6-5, 307 pounds, and made 34 starts at Syracuse, mostly at left tackle.

He’s an athletic technician, and is being projected to guard or even center by NFL teams due to stubby 32-inch arms.

In March, NFL Network’s Daniel Jeremiah compared Pugh to “a better version of Andy Levitre.” Levitre played left tackle at Oregon State and has grown into one of the NFL’s top left guards.

In 2012, Pugh permitted just a half-sack of Ryan Nassib and otherwise didn’t allow a single hurry. The Giants could slot Pugh in at left guard ahead of Kevin Boothe or right tackle over David Diehl. They’ll likely figure it out in training camp.

Here’s a Scouting Report on Pugh:

Summary: Ryan Nassib had a rock in the form of Justin Pugh at left tackle protecting his blind side throughout his Syracuse career. While Nassib didn’t have a great supporting cast in the form of receiving weapons, he at least had a good college left tackle in Pugh protecting him.

Pugh broke into the starting lineup in 2010. He had a strong debut, as he was named a Second-Team All Big East selection. As a sophomore, Pugh improved and was a 2011 All-Big East First-Team selection for Syracuse. Pugh then missed a few games to start the 2012 campaign as he was working his way back from a shoulder injury. However, Pugh eventually put together his best season. He was rock solid in pass protection and was effective at opening holes in the ground game.

Pugh participated in the Senior Bowl after the season. Some observers felt he played well, while others were unimpressed. Pugh definitely didn’t look as good as Central Michigan’s Eric Fisher or Oklahoma’s Lane Johnson. The undersized Pugh took reps at tackle and guard. He did okay taking on speed rushers but had some problems with bull rushes from heavy defensive tackles.

One big issue for Pugh as a left tackle in the NFL is he has terrible length. He has extremely short arms (31 1/2 inches) that are a few inches short of average and far from ideal. He also isn’t very strong, so he could struggle with a lot of the big defensive ends, especially larger ends in a 3-4 defense. Pugh clearly needs more strength for the NFL.

What Pugh has going for him is good technique a pass protector. He has quickness, athleticism, agility and mobility. Negating speed rushers by getting depth in his drop is one of his best strengths. The demand for left tackles is always huge in the NFL, so Pugh benefits from that, and it wouldn’t be surprising to see a team try Pugh on the blind side. Some teams feel that he should move inside to guard.

Pugh’s best fit could be in a zone-blocking system. That would highlight his movement skills, intelligence and technique while protecting his size and power limitations. If Pugh goes to a man blocking scheme, he will have to add some power to beat defensive linemen.

If Pugh were bigger he would be a top-20 pick. As it stands now he could go late in the first round or go early in the second round of the 2013 NFL Draft.
