6 Reasons Nigerians should visit Ghana

The West African countries of Ghana and Nigeria have an ongoing rivalry between them akin to that of siblings. From football, to politics, to entertainment, citizens of each country always want to demonstrate their superiority over the other, howbeit not in a hateful or biased manner. It is always more bants than facts. There have been several episodes, of ‘social media wars’ or ‘Twitter Fights’ between citizens of both countries that leaves us all clutching our stomach with laughter. Through it all though, it is obvious that it is all love and sport.

In this post, we attempt to give reasons why Nigerians, despite the rivalry with their Ghanian counterparts, should visit the Gold Coast. Just like Nigeria, Ghana is rich in history, mineral resources, culture, tradition and places of interest to see and visit.

Many Nigerians do not even know that in Ghana you have Hausa and Fulani speaking people like there are in Nigeria.

Cousins

Ghanians are like cousins to Nigerians. Visiting Ghana for a Nigerian is like visiting your cousins for holiday. There are lots you share in common, but somehow you all still do things differently. Case in point, the jollof. When Nigerians visit Ghana there is an air of familiarity about the place, some lingo and slangs are commonly used, but their pidgin is still very confusing.

Food- Shitor. Banku. Waakye. Jollof.

The list is endless really. Ghanian cuisine can be a joy to experience and even though the eternal battle over whose jollof is better still rages on, no Nigerian should visit Ghana without tasting the jollof. Ghanaian food is actually so popular in Nigeria that there are bukas and restaurants in Lagos dedicated to selling just Ghanaian meals. The most popular among them is Ghana High.

Shatta Wale- Shatta Wale is Ghana’s biggest music sensation at the moment. And only recently he has had a war of words with Nigerian pop artistes on social media. As long as you are not one to take these things too seriously, visiting Ghana to see a Shatta Wale show should be on your list of things to do, at least that way you can see what the hype is about yourself and tell if he is as great as he says he really is.

Beaches- Ghana is blessed with such an impressive stretch of beach line. If you are tired of the Elegushi and Oniru beaches of Lagos, switch it up by exploring the coastline of Labadi and Kobrobite. If you are enthusiastic about wildlife, visit the Cocoloco beach where you would find turtles and a large number of river birds. Beach Resorts in Ghana are beautiful and spending a night or more in one of them would greatly enrich your Ghana experience. Hospitality in Ghana is amazing with big establishments and accra hotels offering top notch service to travelers.

Charle Wote

We have Calabar Carnival. They have Charle Wote. This annual street cum art festival does get bigger and better every year with amazing exhibitions, musical performances, art installations, food, merchandise vendors as well as live music and dance that goes on well into the night. For anyone who enjoys having a good time, when in Ghana, Charle Wote is a must attend.

Nigerian Community- There is a perpetually growing Nigerian community in Ghana and visiting Ghana would definitely feel like home. It wont be long before you notice the familiar accent of a Nigerian, no matter where he is from back home and quickly tag them as your brother or your sister. Especially in Ghanian Universities where many Nigerians turn to as an alternative to schooling in Europe or right here at home.

Russian President Vladimir Putin decided to put some of the country's issues to one side to enjoy a few days holiday in in Tuva, a remote region in Siberia
The 64-year-old President was photographed shirtless in the lakes of Siberia diving, fishing and catching some fun with his defence minister Sergei Shoigu.
The Russian leader was also pictured sunbathing in Tuva during the holiday, which is said to have taken place between August 1 and 3.

Chief Nduka Eya, former secretary general of Ohanaeze Ndigbo kidnapped with driver

Multiple reports confirm that Chief Isaac Nduka Eya, the former Secretary-General of Ohanaeze Ndigbo and Egbe Evu Mbe of Umuitodo, Enugu Ezike, in Igbo Eze North Local Government Area of Enugu State has been abducted in Enugu by suspected kidnappers along with his driver.

The Enugu State Police Relations Officer, PPRO, Ebere Amaraizu also confirmed the incident saying Chief Eya who was also a former Resident Electoral Commissioner in Anambra State was abducted with his driver on Thursday, August 3, 2017

The abductors were said to have invaded Eya’s residence at the Independence Layout, Enugu and forcefully took him and his driver when the wife was not around. His wife, Prof Regina Eya said she was not at home when the gunmen struck but said that the kidnappers had called her and demanded a ransom of N15 million.

9-Year-Old applies for a NASA Job and gets an epic response

Nine-year-old Jack Davis came across a job opening within federal agency, NASA (National Aeronautics and Space Administration) and even though he's only in the fourth grade, the self-proclaimed "Guardian of the Galaxy" thought he could be the perfect candidate.

He sent his application via a handwritten letter that reads, 'My name is Jack Davis and I would like to apply for the planetary protection officer job. I may be nine but I think I would be fit for the job. One of the reasons is my sister says I am an alien. Also, I have seen almost all the space and alien movies I can see. I have also seen the show Marvel Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. and hope to see the movie Men in Black. I am great at video games. I am young so I can learn to think like an Alien."

Instead of tossing the letter to the side, NASA decided to respond in a viral letter that reads, 'our Planetary Protection Officer position is really cool and is very important work. It's about protecting Earth from tiny microbes when we bring back samples from the Moon, asteroids and Mars. It's also about protecting other planets and moons from our germs as we responsibly explore the Solar System. We are always looking for bright future scientists and engineers to help us, so I hope you will study hard and do well in school. We hope to see you here at NASA one of these days'.

Jack also received a phone call from NASA's Planetary Research Director at NASA Headquarters in Washington to congratulate him on his interest in the position.

16 Year Old Boy Rapes, Impregnates 14 Year Old Girl In Katsina

A 16 year old teenager identified as Abdulmalik Yau of Durbi Ta-Kusheyi village in Mani Local Government Area has been accused of raping and impregnating a 14-year-old girl in Katsina state. Abdulmalik was yesterday arraigned before the magistrates’ court in Katsina State.

The accused is said to have been living in the same house with the victim when the act was perpetrated. The victim's father, Murtala Lawal, reported the matter to the police amd the suspect was subsequently arrested.

He was arraigned before the court for rape which is contrary to Section 283 of the Penal Code.

The presiding Magistrate, Fadila Dikko, told the accused that the case was only brought before the court for cognisance as the court had no jurisdiction to hear the case . He therefore ordered the accused to be remanded at the remand home pending when the case would be assigned to an appropriate court.

He adjourned the case to July 20th to enable the court receive advice from the state Ministry of Justice.

Flood Kills Nine People And Leaves One Missing In Central Arizona

Police says Nine people are dead and one is missing after flash flooding swept away a family at a swimming hole in central Arizona.

Sgt. David Hornung with the Gila County Sheriff's Department says Fourteen family members were near the Cold Springs Swimming Hole on Saturday afternoon when heavy rains caused flash floods. The victims have not been identified.

Six children between the ages of 2 and 13 are among the dead, and the oldest victim was in their late 60s. The missing family member is a 27-year-old male, and Four family members were rescued Saturday afternoon.

The National Weather Service has issued a flash flood watch for much of Arizona, including the greater Phoenix area, through Monday evening. Storms are expected into the middle of the week.

Remains Of WWII Fighter Pilot Are Found 70 Years Later And Returned To His Family

The remains of a World War 2 fighter pilot who died during a 1945 mission over Germany have been found and returned to his family over 70 years after. Investigators discovered William J. Gray Jr.'s remains embedded in the roots of a tree in Lindau, a small town near the southeast border of Germany.

Gray Jr's remains were flown back to Seattle, Washington on Wednesday and he was buried next to his best friend Jim Louvier, who returned home from the war, married Gray's younger sister and went ahead to fulfil his promise to take care of Gray's family before he died in 2010.

Gray and Jim enlisted in the US Air Force together and promised to take care of the other's family if either of them failed to make it home. Gray, who had already completed more than 68 missions, was carrying out another bombing on April 16, 1945, when his plane clipped a tree and crashed. When his body was not found, his family members mourned him and made peace with the fact that he may never be found.

However, investigators who were searching Lindau on another recovery mission found Gray's bones last year. A tree had already grown over his remains. DNA testing allowed authorities to match the bones to Gray sisters and the result showed they were the first lieutenant's remains.

Jim Louvier, who died in 2010 at the age of 89, was cremated but his family couldn't decide what to do with his remains. When Gray's bones were flown back to Washington, Jim's family decided to bury them together.

Gray was given a military burial alongside his best friend at the Tahoma National Cemetery.

"I think they are having a cold drink up there smacking their glass together and saying we are finally back together," Gray's nephew and Jim's son Doug Louvier told Fox.

Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Wike says PDP is the only party that is a household name in Nigeria. Wike said this at the Inter-denominational Special Thanksgiving Service organized to thank God for the Supreme Court ruling that affirmed Ahmed Makarfi as the authentic chairman of PDP. The thanksgiving service held at the Rivers State Ecumenical Centre in Port Harcourt yesterday July 16th. Wike said that the ruling APC after winning elections in 2015 have resorted to excuses and blame game instead of fulfilling the promises they made to Nigerians during the election campaigns.
"Two years after the mandate what is the situation? Excuses and blames without delivery. Look at how individuals took it upon themselves to destroy the party that gave them life. PDP is the only party that is a household name in Nigeria. There is no unit in the country without a member of the PDP"he said
He alleged that Sheriff was an agent of APC sent to cause havoc in PDP.
"While we are reconciling, we must be vigilant. Nobody will take me unawares. Satan will never sleep. Satan will always find ways to cause havoc. Sheriff is an agent of the APC. Woe betide any person who is a mole of the deadly party."
The governor said that going forward Rivers State must get return on her contributions to the PDP.
"As we help you, you help us. If you don't help us, we won't help you. All of us must rise from our unit, ward and local government area to mobilise people".
He canvassed total loyalty to the PDP, saying that the party is supreme. According to him, in reconstituting the State Executive Council, only very loyal and committed former commissioners will be re-appointed.
"God saved PDP because of Rivers State. We don't have plan B. Every other state had plan B. Our enemies will be put to shame from time to time. Rivers State is the strongest PDP State" he said

It is insane that people are still this ignorant in this day and age! An Indian woman was beaten mercilessly by her in-laws and her only 'crime' is giving birth to a female child. The shocking assault was caught on tape and has been shared online, causing outrage.
In the disturbing clip, the woman, who has been identified as 35-year-old Meena Kashyap, can be seen screaming in anguish as she's beaten with hockey sticks by two men. The men are reportedly her brother-in-law and one of his friends. The sad incident occurred last week after her husband's family found out she had made a previous violence complaint in April, local reports say.
According to reports, Meena, from Patiala, Punjab, gave birth to a girl but her husband's family refused to accept the child, hence the beatings. Meena and her husband were already involved in a dispute over a dowry of 700,000 rupees (£8,300) that was given by her parents to her new husband's family at their wedding. When she gave birth to a daughter, it angered the family even more, so they assaulted her.
Charges are being brought against her husband Daljit Singh, his brother Kamaljeet and the friend identified as Gaurav. The charges against them include 'trespassing' and 'voluntarily causing hurt'.
The victim's father told local news outlets: "We had complained about the issue last year itself but nothing was being done regarding that. They have been married for the past two years now and have a girl child. Their family asked for 700,000 rupees for dowry."

Canadian Adultery Website Offers To Pay $11.2m as Settlement To Over 30 Million Users Following Leaked Details

Ruby Life Inc, the owner and operator of the Canadian online adultery service, Ashley Madison, has offered to pay $11.2 million to individuals affected by the 2015 data breach.
The adultery website which encouraged people to cheat on their partners was breached in July 2015 by hackers who threatened to leak the personal details of users unless its owners shut down the service.
In mid-August, the hackers leaked details associated with well over 30 million user accounts, including names, addresses, phone numbers, email addresses, dates of birth, users’ interests and their physical description, password hashes, and credit card transactions. A few days later, they also dumped internal company files and emails.
According to a CNBC report, the users affected by the breach filed class actions alleging inadequate data security practices and misrepresentations regarding the dating service.
The incident was said to have also caused huge problems for a lot of people and there have been several suicides possibly related to the leak of Ashley Madison user data.
Late last year, they agreed to pay a $1.6 million penalty to settle charges with the U.S. Federal Trade Commission (FTC) and state regulators for failing to protect confidential user information.
Ruby announced on Friday that it has also settled the customer lawsuits. If the settlement is approved by the court, the company will pay a total of $11.2 million to a fund that will be used to compensate customers who submitted valid claims for losses resulting from the 2015 data breach.
“While ruby denies any wrongdoing, the parties have agreed to the proposed settlement in order to avoid the uncertainty, expense, and inconvenience associated with continued litigation, and believe that the proposed settlement agreement is in the best interest of ruby and its customers,” Ruby stated.
Ruby also clarified that the identities of individuals who had signed up for Ashley Madison were not verified, allowing users to create accounts using other people's information.
“Therefore, ruby wishes to clarify that merely because a person's name or other information appears to have been released in the data breach does not mean that person actually was a member of Ashley Madison,” the company said.

It was wrong, and it's kind of a pattern with me. I make just fast decisions in the moment, and I pay the price afterwards, and I am right now."

However, she admitted that less than 48 hours went by before she realized their marriage was not going to work saying, 'he wanted a wife immediately, in that moment of 'I Do's. Cater to him as my husband and get ready for getting pregnant and cooking and cleaning and taking care of my man. I'm typically more of the man in a relationship, so I will never do that, let alone put a ring on my finger for you and then start doing that. It's not going to happen for me."

Jay-Z’s album goes platinum in just Five days!

The Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) just announced that Jay Z’s 4:44 album has gone platinum less than a week after the album’s release. Going platinum simply certifies that a record has been sold 1 million times.

Though critics argue that the album,4:44 was released on June 30th exclusively to Tidal subscribers and Sprint customers and anyone who hadn’t signed up for Tidal prior to the album’s release wasn’t able to listen to it, unless they were also a Sprint customer, therefore it's almost impossible for it to go platinum.

The RIAA however says, 'Props to JAY, he’s done it again! 4:44 Certified Platinum. Another Platinum album adds to an already iconic career'.

Back in 2013, Jay Z sold a million copies of Magna Carta Holy Grail to Samsung to give to Samsung Galaxy users for free, prompting the RIAA to change its rules to allow the Samsung downloads to count toward certification as soon as the album was released. Magna Carta Holy Grail also went platinum.

Dino Melaye says he is yet to receive any recall notification letter from INEC

Senator Dino Melaye says he is yet to receive any recall notification letter from INEC. Members of his constituency had collated signatures in a petition to INEC to recall him from the senate.

INEC yesterday shared a copy of the letter it sent to Melaye to notify him that they have received the petition of his constituents for his recall and would begin the verification of the signatures on July 3.

Meanwhile on his Facebook page, Dino Melaye shared a video in which he alleged that the bus used to convey the six bags containing the signatures of his constituency members for his recall on Wednesday, belongs to the state government. He has maintained that the state governor, Yahaya Bello, is behind the moves to recall him from the senate.
