My favorite kind of gift to give kids and teens

2012-06-15T14:04:00.000-07:00

The best kind of gift to give and to get, is one that stays with you longer than the item itself. That's why my favorite gift for kids and teens is always a book. Some kids just aren't that jazzed up about reading, or getting a book for their birthday, but giving a related item along with a book always increases the gift's popularity. Here are some ideas of great book gift combos:

For Teen Girls: A duct tape DIY book with patterned tape

Just Duct Tape It Book $9.95 BN.com

Pink Zebra Duct Tape $4.39 Amazon.com

For Toddlers: A board book about cats paired with a stuffed kitty

Cat Book $11.55 Amazon.com

Aurora Tux Plush Flopsie $11.35 Amazon.com

For Elementary School Kids: The Lego Ideas book and an assortment of Legos

The Lego Ideas Book $16.82 BN.com

Lego Builder's of Tomorrow Set $29.95 Amazon.com

My Wish List: Perfume That Smells Like Summer

2012-06-15T14:03:00.000-07:00

Here in Texas, we had an abnormally mild winter followed by an abnormally mild spring, and now that we are heading for the first day of summer, I'm trying to get on board with the whole thing. Summer is the one season that is guaranteed to be anything but mild here. Right now I'm wishing for Harjuku Lovers 'G' by Gwen Stefani
This perfume reminds me of coconut tanning oil and lemonade. Love it!

What is the perfect gift for any occasion?

2012-06-14T11:49:00.002-07:00

Did you know that there is a gift that is perfect for any recipient on any occasion? You can buy one nearly anywhere or make one yourself, and the price is exactly within your budget. What is this mystery gift you ask? A gift basket!

Gift baskets can be bought online or in stores, and range in price from affordable to astronomical. There are tons of theme and occasion baskets including birthday, get well, thank you, movie night, and nostalgia so you are sure to find the perfect gift for any recipient.

The one possible drawback for gift baskets is that they can get expensive. With a little creativity, you can make your own gift baskets for much less, and you will have the ability to completely customize the gift. Check out my Pinterest boards for gift basket themes and ideas. Happy gifting!!

Experience Gifts: Clutter free and Sure to Please

2012-06-07T12:47:00.000-07:00

Happy Birthday to my Grandma! Today is my sweet Grandma's special day, and she is truly one of the hardest people to shop for on the planet. She is allergic to most soaps, perfumes, lotions, certain metals in jewelry, and she's diabetic. That means no pretty little spa sets, no cute candy tins, and no costume jewelry....so what are we left with? Also, did I mention, she's a bit hard to impress. Throughout the years, our gifts have typically gotten such responses as, "Oh, uh huh." Sigh. This year we decided to go a totally new route, and get her an experience gift; tickets to the new aquarium in our area. Sea Life Grapevine

Experience gifts are great for grandparents, since they don't clutter up their already full closets, and it gives them an excuse to enjoy the activity without worrying about being able to afford something frivolous on a fixed income. Tickets to an aquarium, zoo, movies, skating rink, bounce house, water park, and theme park are also great experience gifts for kids who just don't need any more clothes and toys piling up.
