Iloilo Paraw Regatta 2012 Schedule

Iloilo will once again hold its annual Paraw Regatta Festival. The longest running sailing event in Asia is already on its 40th this year. It is slated on February 12 to 19, 2012.

Paraw Regatta is a race among local outriggers on festive local sailboats known as Paraws across the Iloilo Strait.

Iloilo Chinese New Year 2012 Celebration [PHOTOS]

Iloilo celebrated the grandest Chinese New Year celebration outside Metro Manila.

It was a weeklong festivity that focused on the culture of the Filipino-Chinese community in the city. To highlight the celebration, a grand parade with dragon and lion dances and the cultural show was held Friday, January 27, 2012, few days after the actual leap to the new year in the Chinese calendar.

Here are some photos I’ve taken during this year’s Ati-ati Tribe Competition. The highlight of the Dinagyang Festival 2012 was held Sunday, January 22. A total of 13 tribes joined the competition where Tribu Pan-ay, the defending Champion took the crown again.

Iloilo City just staged one of the most successful celebrations of Dinagyang Festival in its history.

Aside from the free WiFi connectivity, Globe has also been making the rounds in Iloilo with bar tours, mall blitzes and on-ground selling of Globe SIM cards and loads to celebrate Dinagyang 2012 with the Ilonggos.

The Iloilo Globe bar tours have been a hit with its P20 promo for new subscribers. The discounted SIM card, topped up with P50 load, comes with free, ice-cold beer to celebrate the Dinagyang festivities.

Globe, PLDT power up Dinagyang 2012 with FREE Wifi

Globe Telecom and PLDT gear up for the Dinagyang Festival 2012 in Iloilo this weekend by providing free WiFi at the two main judging areas of the festival highlights.

Globe has set up WiFi routers at the Freedom Grandstand (Judging Area 1) for the VIPs and judges, at the Iloilo Sports Complex (Judging Area 4), and at the Sports Complex’s poolside for the National Invitational Swimming Competition.

2nd Iloilo International Film Festival Screening Schedule

The 2nd Iloilo International Film Festival is slated on January 19 to 21, 2012. Created as part of the Dinagyang Festival celebration since last year, the film festival is supported by the Sineng Pambansa a project spearheaded by the Film Development Council of the Philippines (FDCP). It brings together local and international indie films in a 3-day screening for FREE at the SM City Iloilo Cinemas 2 & 3.

This year’s official film line-up include the following local masterpieces: Ang Sayaw ng Dalawang Kaliwang Paa (Alvin Yapan and Alemberg Ang); Biyaheng Lupa (Director Armando Lao); Brutus (Director Tara Illenberger); Kadin (Adolfo Alix, Jr./Ma. Annalou Dimla/Jerome Zamora); Revolutions Happen Like Refrain in a Song (Nick Deocampo and Sandino Nartea); Thelma (John Arcilla and Romulo T. Caballero); Local Girls (Edward Trespeces); Sanglaan (Gay Ace Domingo); Wanted Border; Bahay Bata; Kapitan Torpe: and Oro Plata Mata.

Meanwhile, there will be 5 international participants which include: Kolya and Bobule (Czech Republic); Claire’s Knee and The Girl from Monaco (France); and Papaerdolls (Israel).

Ilonggos will have the privilege to watch these artistic creations from the talented indie artists and filmmakers. These movies are not usually screened on mainstream cinemas.

All new Robinsons Iloilo foodcourt

Robinsons Place Iloilo just opened a spanking new foodcourt. Occupying half of the original foodcourt area at the second floor, this new dining destination has a total of 9 leasable spaces, 4 of which are now occupied.

It sports a more modern look and feel although they retained the old tables and chairs. The tenants has also improved their in-store designs integrating brighter colors and more gliterring signages..

The foodcourt renovation was in order because the previous one was big enough that ever since, it never attracted enough tenants to fill its empty spaces.

The first tenants to open are Casa Ilongga, Ocean City, Wev’s and Junies.

The other half of the original foodcourt will be utilized as the Market Bazaar to provide spaces for the displaced tiangges after their former location was occupied by Watsons and CDR King.

More developments for expansion are on the pipeline for Robinsons Place Iloilo this 2012 with the opening of Go Hotel in its current Ledesma parking area.

Iloilo Chinese New Year 2012 Celebration Schedule of Activities

One of the major festivals completing the Festival Season in Iloilo (every 1st Quarter of the year) is the city’s very own Chinese New Year Celebration. First and the biggest after Binondo, Iloilo’s version is a much awaited event by the Ilonggos. People gather along the streets of Iloilo’s Chinatown (Iznart St.) to witness this colorful presentation lead by different Chinese organizations, businessmen and schools in the city.
