GILBERT, AZ – The Gilbert Visual Art League (GVAL) invites Arizona fine artists to participate in the 8th annual Juried Fine Art Show.  There will be over $1000 awarded in cash prizes.  The exhibition will be held from November 5 through November 20, 2010 at the Gilbert Historical Museum, 10 South Gilbert Road in Gilbert.

The show is open to all Arizona artists, 18 years or older. All original artwork in two and three dimensions are welcome.  Only JPGs sent electronically or on CDs will be accepted.

Entry fee is $10 per piece for GVAL members and $20 per piece for nonmembers.  Entries are due October 1, 2010.  Visit the annual art show page to learn more about it or download the prospectus and entry form to submit your work. Dear Gilbert Visual Art League,

I am writing to you in hopes that you might share the following job opportunity with acrylic painters and/or arts organizations in Gilbert, AZ. I would greatly appreciate it if you’d pass this message along to anyone who might be of assistance.

Grumbacher paint is looking to hire acrylic painters to teach two hours workshops at a major retailer in locations across the United States and Canada. Artists must be capable of demonstrating a still life, landscape, seascape, and floral. We have developed a flexible curriculum for an artist to use or adapt to fit to his or her style. We plan to conduct approximately one to four workshops per store per month, and the artist will have flexibility in scheduling. Compensation is $100 per workshop, and teaching materials will be provided to the artist at no cost.

OPEN CALL: Present Your Art to the People’s Biennial Curators

Come share your creative pursuits with the curators June 5th 2-5 pm

(Scottsdale, AZ) The Scottsdale Museum of Contemporary Art (SMoCA) is one of five American art institutions presenting and participating in the People’s Biennial, an experiment in exhibition making and a fresh approach to thinking about art. The exhibition will include works by five artists from each of the participating communities and will travel to the five venues across the nation. The People’s Biennial will be on view at SMoCA in the fall of 2011.

The organizers of this exhibition, curators Harrell Fletcher and Jens Hoffman, seek remarkable, under-appreciated creative endeavors by anyone and everyone, especially work done by people who do not consider themselves part of the art world. This could include a child who makes dazzling science fair projects; a knitter who makes fabulous clothing; a mathematician who makes visually compelling notations; a sign painter who creates window displays, etc.

Bring pictures of your work or the real thing! All those interested are welcome.

Sign-ups for meeting times will take place in person on June 5th, on a first come first served basis, starting at 1:30 p.m. in the Atrium of the Scottsdale Center for the Performing Arts. The People’s Biennial curators have allotted 10 minute time slots for each person.

Logo Competition Announced

GVAL wants you (to create a great logo that is). The club has been transitioning our look for some time now. The last piece of this makeover is our logo. Since our members are talented artists we want to enlist your help with this task. Create a cool logo design that represents GVAL showing our on community involvement and artistic diversity and bring it with you to the September meeting where we will critique the designs and choose a few candidates for GVALs new look. Pieces don’t need to be digitized—feel free to work in your favorite medium. We will take the final piece and make it ready for use on business cards, brochures, and our website.

Annual Art Show Planning Begins

The show is tentatively scheduled for November to coordinate with Gilbert’s 80^th birthday celebration. Come to the first committee meeting on June 3 at 6:30 p.m. and help us make this event even better than last year!

June Summer Social

Though we aren’t meeting this summer, that doesn’t mean we can’t all hang out. Join us for our Summer Social on Saturday, June 5 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Coffee Cove. We’ll be handing our tickets for delicious Coffee Cove beverages and have some light snacks to nosh on. We are having another rousing game of Pictionary too. We can’t wait to see you there!
