Lee Anne Park will be honored as the featured artist by the board the Arizona Art Alliance on Saturday 3/10/12 – 6-9 PM at their reception “Spring in to Art”.

The Arizona Art Alliance Art Gallery is located at The Pavilions at Talking Stick – 9011 E. Indian Bend – Scottsdale, AZ 85250 – Phone 602-870-7610 (Between Hobby Lobby and Sports Authority)

A special introduction of featured artist Lee Anne Park will be the highlight of the evening. Over 125 additional juried Arizona artists are participating in this show which is scheduled from March 8th through April 1st. The gallery gift shop offers a varied selection of unique art items priced under $150. Refreshments and entertainment will be provided.

The Arizona Art Alliance is honoring Lee Anne not only because of her commitment and dedication to the Alliances’ outreach programs but also to recognize her professional art and sales contributions to the organization over the past decade.

As home to 34 member art organizations with over 4,500 valley artists, the Alliance continues its mission of impacting the community and aiding the less fortunate with art programs for disadvantaged, mentally and physically-challenged children and seniors. Lee Anne Park has been instrumental over the past 14 years in leading the Desert Artists’ Art League. She has coordinated and implemented that league’s outreach program “Extra Special Art”. Ms. Park has also been an inspiration in other Alliance outreach programs with her art mentoring through the Alliances’ efforts with the Phoenix Children’s Hospital Foundation. She was one of the first participant art teachers for the Alliances’ art for seniors programs. As president and project director of the Desert Artists’ “Extra Special Art Program”, she has taught other artists how to teach and participate.

She strives to share the joy of art with children so that they can sense the world through the lens of artistic creativity. Her dedication to hundreds of children and adults has given them a freedom of expression and a better outlook to overcome their adversity. Lee Anne pursues every aspect of art forms and media and shares these creative processes with both students and teachers connected to the outreach programs. She is always the first to volunteer, never hesitant to lead and is always willing to share.

Her art career has spanned the decades and she has studied with many well-known artists in the world of wildlife. She incorporates research with taxidermists and takes photography trips around the country to study her wildlife subjects for her art work. Lee Anne captures the intensity and life-force moment in each of her subjects while applying the media of choice with her skill. She has painted special illustrations for Audubon Arizona and has received their Great Egret Award. Please come to meet this benevolent artist and view her paintings and scrimstones. Her work will be on display from March 8th through April 1st 2012 at the Arizona Art Alliance Gallery.

The Gilbert Visual Art League needs a logo and to that end we are having a contest for a logo design. We will use the logo for computer and printed materials.

Members can hand in as many designs as they would like. All designs will be anonymous until a logo is selected.

The original artwork can be in the medium of your choice or created digitally in a computer program.

The final artwork will need to be in a jpg format. (Deb Randall can help if you need to convert traditional artwork to a digital format. drandall47@cox.net)

Members will print their entries on 8.5 x 11” paper with the logo sized to 5” on its longest dimension. (If you need help printing your logo George Lenz can do it if you give him a week’s notice. gemlenz@cox.net)

The deadline is our April 5, 2012 meeting when the printed entries will be presented for our members to vote on their favorite logo.

The selected logo will become the property of the Gilbert Visual Art League.

Guidelines for a logo:

The logo can spell out Gilbert Visual Art League or use the initials GVAL or use no letters at all and just be a symbol.

The logo may be in color, but it should hold its design in black & white as well. Generally flat colors are easier to deal with than gradations or blended colors.

While the original artwork can be any size, the logo should be recognizable at a 1” height (think business card).

Download our Guidlines PDF too see some examples of art league logos.

As part of the States’ Centennial Celebration GVAL would like to create a one of a kind wood art quilt to be displayed at the Gilbert Family Music and Art Festival that will take place on February 17 and 18. Check out the previous article for details and the prospectus for entry into the “One Hundred Years Together: Gilbert Past, Present and Future” art show that is part of the Festival.

In addition to individual entries, as a group, we want to create a “quilt” of members artwork. We were given flooring samples to use, so we are cutting the boards into 7″ squares and distributing them to members. We want you to paint on them, collage on them, decoupage a photo on them, sculpt into or onto them, whatever creative idea comes to you.

For more information, download the instructions form. It also has a photo of our inspiration, a gourd quilt displayed at Arizona Art Alliance. We are hopeful that you can find a way to create in your style and medium on the wood piece. We are passing the wood blocks out at the January 5 meeting and want to collect finished pieces by the February 2 meeting. If you won’t be at the January meeting, you can get a wood piece from Diane Fales (dfales1@cox.net).
